Getting a TouchPad for android - TouchPad General

Hey guys.
I know a guy who's selling a used but mint condition TouchPad for about 150 bucks.
Is it worth getting it just for the hope that it'll have a stable ICS ROM?

Even the current CM7 Gingerbread works very well - I'm enjoying my Android Touchpad immensely. I also paid $150 for the 16GB model, and I don't regret it at all.

Stable enough. Get it. Very worth $150. Where else you get dual boot tablet for that price?

I would say do it. The hardware is still top notch aside from the display, and getting an ICS port is a matter of when, not if.

Awesome. Thanks guys.
Hows the battery life with 2.3 so far?
Also, is the current CPU/GPU as good or better than Tegra 2?

I get between 6-8 hours battery life with xron b2.8 in heavy use and, using chainfire 3D pro, I get awesome performance from tagrazone games. I would have to say that the performance of the qualcomm chip equals that of the tegra 2 for all practical purposes.

How's that battery working for you? How many hours did it add? Is it bulky?

Megapixels really don't mean anything if the sensor is crap and the g2x is a perfect example. Get a vibrant and a g2x and take a picture. You'll be amazed how much better the vibrants camera is.

G2X is nowhere near a good enough increase for the money. It has build quality issues(light leakage on screen), and it's not that much faster than our Vibrants. Also, our screens are so pimp, deff not going to any other phone that's not a SAMOLED(+ preferred)
I've seen G2X's for as low as 125 on local craigslist...still not worth it.(to me)

It fits in a stock phone perfectly, no bulk. On CM7 I went from around 10 hours to 12 hours, not much but it's a cheap upgrade. I am now on ICS and getting 20 some hours but haven't put the original battery back in myself.

My thoughts exactly. Why move to a G2X so late in the season? When I was running CM7, Overclocked to 1.5GHz, I was keeping up with all my other friends who have dual core phones (faster in some instances)... eg: Galaxy S II, Motorola Atrix, iPhone 4S, etc, etc. Now I'm running ICS at 1.2GHz, which is awesome. I'm happy to hold out another 6 months at the most, and snag a Quad-Core Galaxy S III. Then, that phone will last me another 1 1/2 - 2 years... so on and so forth. What's the point in 'upgrading' when there's nothing out there that is vastly superior, yet? (Except maybe the Galaxy Nexus)

HTC Jet??

So who is going to jump on this or jump to the Nexus LTE?

So long as the technology in dual core has taken a step forward this device will be just fine.

I've been COMPLETELY sold on the Sprint GN, but I have a June 1st upgrade, and if this release date is concrete for the One X/Jet/EVO LTE, I might have a decision on my hands
So if the cpu chip isnt compatible with LTE here and thats why Europe is getting I wonder if it will be compatible next year? Hhmmm....either way I'm excited about the display!
Really? A Dual core?
And no, It's not about benchmark swag. Its about it actually being a worthy upgrade. Why am I going to buy a phone thats barely an upgrade? A slightly faster cpu, a slightly faster gpu, and the same amount of RAM? No thanks.
My next phone will have a 1.5ghz quad core, a way faster gpu, and 2gb of ram or its not worth dropping a dime on to me.

And the second someone actually shows me what you can do with a quad core phone that you cant do with a dual core phone then ill be inclined to share your thoughts on quad core..What are the real life comparisons? What is the benefit other than saying "I have a quad core phone"
Its just a phone for god sakes,i just dont understand the fascination with going crazy over quad core in a phone.
Right now i have a gs2. I dont see me giving up this phone anytime soon. I have 2 eligible upgrades ive been savin. But normally if you sell your phone on craigslist then buy another on craigs list you pay less then what the upgrade would cost a new customer. Sold evo for 220...paid 350 for brand new white gs2. still no removable battery or storage so I'll probably still pass.
Paid retail on the EVO 3D to hold me for another year on my contract so won't be buying a new phone till next year with my upgrade and by then there will be something better. But seems like a worthy upgrade.

While there is no mention of storage or battery the article states LTE as being the only difference. Had battery and/or storage been changed it would be a pretty big deal and mentioned. I hope I'm wrong but don't hold your breath that HTC decided to make those changes only for Sprint when LTE is the single necessary alteration for the CDMA LTE roll out.

You guys need to take some time and do some research on what your talking about...
neither of you mentioned the fact that the screen is HUGELY improved, dedicated ImageChip, and besides the whole point both of you are not grasping the fact of how much better the S4 chip's are than the S3's...If this doesn't satisfy an upgrade b/c of the SoC then you'll be left waiting till '13 when Qualcomm pushes their 28nm quads...
fact is the SoC mentioned in this device is a huge upgrade to the current one in the EVO3D...
If this was a Tegra3 would you consider it an upgrade??? If you say yes then you are greatly miss-leaded by the facts of the SoC's themselves b/c there is sooo much more than just the # of cores...28nm vs 40nm, integrated modems vs not, and a bunch more...

Development is good but I'm not gonna lie, it's slowing down a bit right now.
There are ICS ROMs, but all based on HTC Sense someway somehow.
No real custom kernels available, just modified stock kernels.
Here's the thing, development has hit a bit of a fork in the road.
Until HTC releases kernel source for our phone, we're all waiting, some more patient than others, this one issue alone is what's really holding us up.
When kernel source is released, usually right after an OTA comes out, we'll find out what this phone truly has, development will no matter what skyrocket after this happens.
Guess the Nexus doesn't fancy you as much and the Fascinate is aging eh?
Development's been good, decent amount of GB ROMs and got a moderate amount of variety now on the ICS ROMs to play with (MIUI, Sense 4, Sense 3.6) and some others in the works (CM9, AOKP). Still awaiting source to tidy up things which will come with Official ICS by end of July. Development should pick back up even more then.
Best kernels are on GB, ICS still needs source for kernel development. ICS has an 1.8 OC Sebastian kernel out and Incredikernel is being worked on for ICS. That said, the ICS leaked stock kernels perform adequately for now.
Love the HD SLCD screen compared to RAZR and Nexus, but it guzzles power and hard to see in sunlight. Screen on time is 3-4 hours. Spare batteries or extended battery recommended.
S-off for this phone must be MacGyvered, but is accomplished without trouble if you read up well.
If you don't want to get the bleeding edge S4/Tegra chipped phones, this phone has the best performance/price ratio on the market IMO.
All considered, I'd recommend it over anything but One X, One S, or SGIII.
Slow untill HTC releases source, pretty much like any other phone.

I love the phone itself. Dev is pretty strong, but I'm afraid it will go the way of the thunderbolt when the next new 64xx comes out. Which there are no leaks on the horizon(at least on the Verizon side of things), so maybe(hopefully) that will be fall or later(other than the Inc 4G). If the development falls off like it did with the Tbolt, I'll move to the Nex. There are quite a few ICS roms, but only a couple of senseless roms with working ril(IIRC).
Would I buy the phone again, yes. In a heartbeat. I love it, it has a gorgeous screen that is actually 720p, without pentile. Hardware wise, it has everything I want except NFC, which I can live without.
I'll be honest if your into flashing rooms and need a battery that lasts you should get the nexus. If you love sense then you meed might like this but development has been really slow.

I'm thinking of upgrading to this device from a SGII. But I really want to be able to tell the difference if I'm going to make this upgrade. Would have went to a sprint store and tested this myself if that were possible.

Almost identical as yours. Lol

Because benchmarks are so useful. The benchmark can drastically change depending on what type of storage you use or other factors that barely effect real performance.

Here's mine, 16gb white us on sprint.
Thanks for the benchmarks. After reviewing the results I may have to pass on this one. It was either a sg3 or a psp and after seeing the gpu scores I'm going to go with the psp vita. [Q] Would you reccommend the Optimus G

I am looking to upgrade from my Atrix 4g at the end of the month, I am looking at getting either the GS3, Optimus G, or Xperia TL, leaning t'words either the GS3 or Optimus G due to the extra Gig of ram. What are your personal pros and cons about the phone? How is the build quality? I see its rootable yet the boot loader is still locked, which to me isn't that big of a deal since I have only unlocked my Atrix to flash CM a few months ago before the ICS update was canned. If anyone is a previous LG user how are they with updates are they worse than Moto or better. Assuming the bootloader is unlocked and CM is ported to it I will run that but as long as stock isn't too slow I am fine with that.
I am a HUGE Sony fan and am so disappointed at both Sony and AT&T for releasing the TL... it's almost like the hardware was unfished and not a flagship device... Everyone knows the sg3 is a great phone but the screen resolution just doesn't cut it... I want to love this new LGOG and if they can iron out some of these little software glitches this will be an amazing phone for LG if the biased tech writers jump on board.

That's why I am looking more at the GSIII and Optimus G, the TL I'm sure is a pretty solid phone but it does seem like it was unfinished, plus I'm not a fan of the AT&T Logo on the front. I figured since the Optimus G is very similar in specs to the new Nexus if we can get an unlocked bootloader we should be fine on the drivers front on getting newer versions of Android working. I do love the look of the Xperia ION and the TL though. The Optimus G is a great looking phone and has an SD Card slot, I'd have to have my 32gb UHS1 Class micro sd card go to waste.
What kind of bugs are you experiencing right now? How is the stock launcher (I will most likely go with Nova Prime right off the bat, which I run on both my Atrix (CM10 w/ 'those' libs) and my TF101 CM10-nightly)
I say its worth I if you don't do a lot of rooting or Roms. I don't see that bing really popular on this phone. Me I don't do that anymore so I'm very satisfied with it, ui and all

Well the phone has only been out for a couple of days now so I say it's a little to early to say weather the phone picks up. Though you are most likely right. Seeing as the internals are very close to the Nexus 4 though, we might be able to port roms for it with minimal tweaks. I do root and flash roms, but only when I have to, the only device I've regularly flashed to is my TF101 which I flash nightlies every few days.
I can highly recommend this phone. I have only been using it 2 days now, but the battery life is amazing with brightness on at around 63%. From 9:45 am this morning to 6:06 pm now, on high brightness with using the phone like an average user, I have 68% battery left and the is with Eco mode and Power Saving OFF. Very pleased with this phone.

I have Eco mode OFF and LTE is on. Just for a perspective, I woke up at 6:30, and now, 2:37pm, the battery is on 74% which is awesome because with my galaxy s3, the battery life was much worse. Very happy with the phone.
Amazing phone
Super fast slick well built design and great battery life
I also upgraded from the Atrix 4G to the LG Optimus G.. and Wow.. originally i had the SGS3, then i took it back and got the LGOG. Im certainly not looking back. Great build quality and specs all around, only thing i dislike is the camera quality.. its sub-par.
I upgraded from atrix 4g. I love my LGOG. Looks, feel and performance excellent.

I would recommend it. I switched from the SGS3 to this, and I'm not disappointed. It feels very solid and has nice weight to it. It's fast as hell, too.
Returning my IP5 tomorrow, and I'm torn between this phone and the GN2.

Add One X+ as well to your considerations, but I would say go with the Optimus. Its stock software has its fare share of bugs, but in my opinion, one of the most important factors is the potential. The Optimus has superior hardware to each. Its A15 processor is more power efficient and faster than the other two.

Turned out I was up for an upgrade today, not the 22nd as I was lead to believe, so I picked up an Optimus G on my way home from work, I've only had it for about an hour, but I'm liking it so far.
Edit #1: For those of you who already rooted I'm assuming this is the only method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941699? Any issues with it, did you run it before or after running the OTA update?
Edit #2: I tried it myself, works fine.
I've had it for about 24 hours and, with the exception of the stock LG UI (Already replaced with the new ADW), it seems like quite the rocking phone. When the One X+ gets here at the end of the week I'm going to take a hard look at that and may swap out, but I don't think you can go wrong with this beast!
