[Q] Anyone use the HTC Super Tool? - HTC Amaze 4G

has anyone used the HTC Super Tool To unlock and root their devices, here is the thread I am refering to.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343114
Just wondering if this would make things for us easier or not.

I've looked at it and tried it out. The only thing it does is open the htcdev website for you. Doesn't do anything else as far as I can tell. However I didn't attempt to disable the htc stuff either with it. Bottom line it doesn't fully support the Amaze 4G at this time.

[Q] Rooting "A shot in the dark"

Have been reading any and all Rooting Posts and I have come to the conclusion that as of now, Most, if not all of the Rooting techniques are a shot in the dark.
If there is one good way that is reliable and doesn't screw up one thing or another than I have not seen it.
Example......Superoneclick....works on one phone but not the next....Roms....need more fixes to get to work than Microsoft.....
Tell me is there a proven way to unlock the bootloader, Root the phone and get Gingerbread to work fully ?
I may be new to this site and believe me I would love to have a open phone....But I have other things to do than F around trying to get a already KickAss phone to work.....Just saying....

you need to do more reading, no one uses superoneclick for the atrix... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165791
Read the stickies..
Have you ever opened the android dev section?
Almost everything is in the sticky thread of clown.. With faqs guides etc..
Unlock your bootloader depending what atrix you have(att or international), then install the tenfars port of CWM4, and then you can root using the CWM root method..

To build on your Microsoft comment...............Some software is not compatible with all versions of Windows. The Atrix came out with Windows 95, has made it to XP, and with GB will be Windows 7. If you are not happy with the devs work, what they have done for everyone, and can't filter through the threads to get what you want, maybe you should get an iPhone and stick Cydia on it!......Or get a Windows phone because you won't have to "fix" anything on it!
If you want help, then you have started out the wrong way. Your post needs to be objective, and not flaming all the work others have done because you can't implement any of it, and are confused.
Root, ROM's, etc., do not need a bunch of fixes............you just have to READ so you know which ones work together for what you want. If you had actually taken the time, you would know that the bootloader has been unlocked, root is working, and GB is awesome. You just have to check the instructions for what you want on your Atrix, whether it be AT&T, Orange, Bell, etc.
Personally, I am on an AT&T Atrix 4G with unlocked bootloader, rooted, with GB 4.5.91, and have absolutely no complaints ot problems!
Since you don't want to F around, watch that door................it's heavy and swings closed fast.........wouldn't want it to hit you between the buttocks on the way out!
Bell ATRIX, unlocked bootloader, rooted, running 2.3.4. No problems

Wrong section, please pay attention to where you are posting next time.
In regards to your question, there really isn't an "easier way". The AlphaRev tool is one of the easiest I have ever seen. I suppose if that is too hard you could void your warranty and go the HTC route(Not Recommended).
i already did it with HTC. i want clockwork or something.

Since you followed HTC's method you are stuck as of right now. Their method unlocks your bootloader, but still has a NAND lock keeping you from flashing to different partitions. This situation is similar to the OG Evo if I'm not mistaken. Just wait around and a root method should appear.

You will see claims from people in these forums that they were able to root and install recovery using HTC's unlocking, but those are false claims. All of those posters had been previously rooted using revolutionary.io. No one that took the OTA on a phone that hadn't previously been unlocked have been successful installing a custom recovery.
Basically you have an unlocked bootloader, now you will have to wait for someone to come up with an exploit like "rage against the cage" from the Evo to unlock the nand and attain s-off. If you had the original Evo 4g you will remember that in order to root you had to use unrevoked or Toast's method. Something similar to that will now be needed.
For those reading this your best option is to hold off using HTC's unlocker and if you haven't taken the 2.08 update use revolutionary.io to unlock your phone and if you did take the update or have a phone that came with the update, wait for an update to revolutionary.io.

I completely agree that many of the new users do often get a bit excited and "rush" to root or unlock their devices (without fully understanding or reading directions) and end up in a lurch. But not a single person on this forum should log in to make a person feel bad or incompetent. If you see someone that jumped the gun and is lost, please help them. If you can't, then just let someone who can do it. We are all here to learn and help each other out. Let's stick to that and everyone will be happy.

Amen! I totally agree.
Furthermore, vBulletin, phpBB, Wiki* and most technologies used to share and publish information and content are just terribly inefficient in regards to topics like these (Android, rooting, development, tech, etc.). Newcomers simply can not come into forums like these and find the info or content they want consistently. You can tag, break stuff up into sub-forums and make stickies like 3M 'til your blue in the face but until you fully understand a noob's thought process and behavior and have the software reflect that we forever will have these problems.
One temporary resolution is to try to change the one variable we can change in this equation. That is to try to cease the negative comments since we already know noobs and their questions are a constant.
Do not use the HTC root method, just use the Revolutionary method and before doing so download and copy TWRP and a ROM and flash in HBOOT\Recovery
root with s-on
Like an idiot, I unlocked my bootloader via official HTC way. I have not rooted my phone with revolutionary, my phone was completely stock. I was able to flash CWM via fastboot and install superuser via CWM.

[Q] S-Off Hboot 1.5

hey
I know its been awhile since we have heard anything from Revo and its a ban-able offense on their IRC to ask about how its going, but has anyone heard about ANYTHING that'd led to S-Off on the Htc Evo 3D?
I had to switch back to my htc evo 4g cause I can't stand not having root and S-off on my 3d. And I really do not want to use HTC's Method. So has anyone heard anything? Like progress? Or should I just
abandon hope? Lol

as a general suggestion, i'd recommend to never abandon hope. if their irc channel, their main location they advertize to contact them, doesnt provide information on their status, i'm not sure you'll find any other *insider* information on XDA regarding their status. they generally keep a fairly tight knit group.
i haven't heard any insider information either. i would hope they're working on a method for hboot 1.5 but might not be making it a top priority since htc has released an unlock method and revalphax does cover a number of devices. even though htc's method is not the same and not as "thorough" it still works and allows the basics.
maybe somebody will correct me and we'll all get an update! hope that helps!

[Q] Off topic ReZound, on topic HTC

Just a quick question, my friend has a htc phone, he has the evo 4g.
Is the unlocking process the same on all htc phones. For example, does he just fastboot and find the long key like i would or will it be different. Any help appreciated. Hees new to android but know of all the things you can do with s-off and root. He wants to join into the fun and stuff. He is specifically asking for my help because he knows about the program that i made.
I haven't the slightest idea, but Id check the evo forums.

Essentially you are right, but remember HTC Dev is not preferred due to tracking potential and warranty worries. If you're going S-off these methods vary phone by phone, and some phones do not even need Dev Unlock to accomplish this. Research each HTC phone's forum.
Assuming you specifically mean the ol' EVO, not the new LTE, you can use Revolutionary:

Yes this will set you up to do all that. . Best part is, that it wont report to HTC that you Unlocked your bootloader. The conventional way would report it to HTC and void your warranty. It will also ssh TWRP recovery and install SU and busy box. Please, just make sure you read the directions thoroughly. Make sure u have e the correct drivers and such. About e the directions you'll see all the requirements before running the MOD. Any troubles, just post your questions there. Rega's awesome. After you'll be all set to flash ROMs and such. There are a couple of limitations without S-Off but it doesn't sound like you wanna go to far.

Yes, I have used Rega's tool on other phones in the past. I just didn't know this was available for this 651.3 version on this phone.
Just started using the Evo LTE about a week ago, and I am hoping to instsall Mean ROM to make it a little more responsive
Also, my phone already says "TAMPERED."
Is there any way to get rid of that?

Normally with HTCDev, you're giving them your personal information, like your name, in exchange for the unlock key. With Regaw's method, it randomizes one of a hundred names, so they never actually have your specific info on file.

To answer the easier question first, no, you don't have to be s-off to flash roms.
As to what it is and what it means, once you go to Regaw's thread, hit his name, go to his stats, and check out the link of threads that he's started. He did a pretty good write up on what s-off is, and what it means.

I've not utilized this process, so I'm speaking from a position of ignorance. But, regardless of the name used, etc., it would seem to me that ANY method utilized will provided the IMEI/Serial # of the handset. This said, HTC will have a record that the phone was unlocked, and would still certainly have an ability to say it is not eligible for certain warranty claims.
Am I incorrect?

no, you're not incorrect - HTC will have the devices information on file as part of the token, but they will not have your name and registration information. This does not prove that the phone was unlocked, only that the unlock information was requested for your phone. As an fyi also, the fine print states that htc specific warranty may be voided by unlocking, not that it will be.

They will only have a record that you REQUESTED an unlock code. There is no way they can prove that you actually USED it, unless your device obviously says "UNLOCKED" or "RELOCKED" in the bootloader (which it invariably will until S-OFF is achieved for the new HBOOT).
Besides the fact that no one ever sends their device back to HTC for service, so it's not typically relevant anyway.

I just did. Sprint only has a 15 day warranty on phones now (unless you purchase the insurance.) And mine was a couple months old, with a borked antenna and dropping calls. So it is off to HTC for a warranty repair/replacement.

I guess if you don't want to pay Sprint the $35 to have them fix it, then yes, you'd have to send it back to HTC, but if they determine there's nothing wrong with the phone, they just send it back to you unfixed, and at your expense. That's why I'm going to try and never send anything back to them .
