I've looked into the partitions and couldn't find any partitions that were the same. Since the tool probably requires s-off (which we don't have) and would effect a partition not designed for the Amaze, I wouldn't risk it since there is a small chance of corrupting a vital nand. For example if the splash screen partition for the Sensation is the kernel partition for the Amaze you could end up with a device that won't boot. So proceed at your own risk if I were you.
yeah you are right. how about any boot animations from the sensation.
im just asking i have a sensation folder full of crap and wanted to know whats useful before i take the garbage out

Bootanimations should still work since the screen size is the same and it's media related, not partition specific.

On the thunderbolt it could be done via a fastboot with "fastboot flash splash1 splashimage.img" or something along those lines if I recall correctly....anyone given something like that a try?

Yes, that is how it's done. I can't comment on S-On but I haven't been able to get nbimg tool to work on 720x1280 res. No problem when I did my EVO 3D (obviously only 540x960). When I run it, it crashes (makes a splash.bmp.nb, just a little scared to try and flash it since i'm unsure).
can't wait for this either, i want my android pissing on the apple once again. sometimes i turn on my incredible just to see it. lmao
I'm guessing there is an issue with nbimg, where the .bmp has to be smaller than 2MB...

If you do get to playing around with it, post up your results, otherwise when I get home tomorrow I'll give manually flashing one a shot

Thanks. Not a problem anymore since I got S-OFF.
Sent into the innertubes from my Arnova 10 G2.
with the result of the http://droid.tnet.com/rezsplashgen generator,
do I just rename it and autoflash with hboot, or use the fastboot
command to send it?
Auto flash it with hboot after renaming it.
Via my HTC Rezound
happened across this this morning:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695
(thanks to jcase on twitter)
value could be a couple different things,to us:
1)downgrade if there was an explolit in older firmware
2)use it to sneek on the signed eng hboot by using that in the third step instead of an s-on ship hboot, then running an RUU with hboot removed to finish recovering the phone
id love to try it,but i dont have a linux machine and my linux skills are basically none
your thots?
whoah! I just read through that whole process and that is some scary stuff right there. But looks like it could be great progress right there!

Yeah, I am looking forward to Revolutionary or someone to make it a one click routine. That would be nice.
Interesting. If I were to guess, I would say that HBOOT unlocks something in order to prep for a flash of a PH98IMG.zip ... when you intentionally brick the phone by messing with the flashable file you've left it in an unlocked state, which you can take advantage of after rebooting by directly copying to the raw partition a bootable image. Obviously some knowledge of the underlying phone hardware is needed in order to find, modify, or build from scratch this bootable image and finding the proper partition into which it needs to be copied -- the directions in the linked thread are for a different phone and different code and probably different partition names would be required.
This may not even work on the Rezound.
And, I should add, the potential to permanently and irrevocably brick your phone is quite high.
It might work with the signed eng hboot. I would try it if I had a backup device. Hell if someone has one that is in terrible condition that is going to do an insurance claim reguardless, I would ask them to try it out. Or have me help them try it.
I'm gonna give this a shot. Worse thing that happens is, I go and buy another Rezound (or something else).

Yeah- I remember how easy it was on the Incredible to root. Then on the Thunderbolt it was a little harder (for those who aren't comfortable with adp commands) and eventually a one-click process came up. Now, it would be great to have something like that on the Rezound and maybe, just maybe, be able to root without this big, ugly UNLOCKED / RE-LOCKED showing in H-Boot!

awww yeah! here's hoping for some positive results!!
was just going to post this last night. good luck guys!
For anyone that wants to try it
Start with the OTA PH98IMG.zip
Then swap with our shipped PH98IMG.zip
So you should be trying to go from Hboot 2.11 to 2.10
Then when in linux, recover with the signed eng hboot image we have.
After that, I would recommend using fastboot to turn secure flag off (assuming you didn't brick and it worked)
Then flash a homemade PH98IMG.zip with everything except hboot in it.
What should be done first is identify which emmc block hboot is before you start this process.
woah... if we have a "signed" eng HBOOT why cant we just flash it over the one we already have?

Hey guys, I'm going to try to start to learn android rom development, and thought maybe porting a AOSP rom fromt the sensation would be a cool task to work with. Right now, I think the Sensation is the closest to our Amaze, but it's CM7 build is lacking. Either way, it will be a ton easier to port CM7 than CM9 for a complete noob, but that doesn't mean I don't need your help!
I like to keep an open mind and workflow on stuff (I collaborate musically like this) so anyone willing to help or learn something can hop right in and I would appreciate it!
Some links I'm using for learning / porting:
Code:
It took a while, but I finally tracked down a mirror for the latest and last build of CM7 for the sensation:

I'm going to be using this kitchen:

Found this guid for porting a rom. It's ment to be from CM7 to AOSP from the same phone, but it's worth a shot!

They are very different.... thus it has been a pain in the ass to port roms to it, but since you dont have to mess with changing the screen/resolution to match it, it makes it a little easier

Ok, yea, the internals are different. So far as I can tell the sensation has an S2 snapdragon and the Amaze has an S3. I don't know if I can even get this thing to boot, but I think it will be a great learning experience nevertheless!

And by editing the build prop, did you just pretty much copy the hardward identifiers from a stock ROM from the Amaze?

Hmmmm, I'm wondering how bad this risk is? Like will editing the build prop, and keeping an existing kernel brick the phone? Because by my understanding I can ALWAYS boot into the bootloader, then recovery before it even touches the files that I'm injecting
Plus my phones S-ON, not that this means anything, because I have fastboot!
From what I've read, again, there have been 0 bricked s=on Amaze devices. There have been soft bricks, but ppl have always been able to fix in fastboot

There's the soft brick my friend. Try to boot into recovery and restore. If you can't get into recovery, you will have to re-install a recovery using fastboot or adb. You can find the instructions on X's site in Amaze>Development> and find a recovery... It will be labeled "hard way" but its not really hard at all. It's easier than soft bricking your phone
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-2
And this is One of the reason the Amaze lacks development... It's a lil more difficult to dev on... Combine that with s=on and a phone only marketed in North America and you get a ghost town forum

Thanks man! But not needed It's just installing to the system partition and one other, but both are active only after the bootloader, so I just hold down the "volume down" button while turning on, scroll to recovery and restore my backup. No trouble at all! In fact, since I'm basing this off the stock kernel, I don't think I need to install one until I can get it booting
Thanks for the help again dude, seriously, get that screen and help me with this

I would like to know.. What is the positive and negatives about S-OFF??
Pos- it allows you to flash kernels through recovery (which u can do with 4ext anyway). And you can flash custom boot animations.
Neg- makes your phone able to be "bricked", but I don't think there's been any one who has bricked an Amaze yet.
That's pretty much all it is. Just allows you to write to partitions that are protected

yes how could we forget about that.. (which is technically the ability to flash any stock ruu for carries) and there's also the ability to SIM unlock the phone for free without having to get the unlock code

Since there aren't a wide variety of radios, and 4ext handles flashing needs, really it's for splash screens and thats about it. Not worth the wire trick if u ask me

You should be fine. When flashed it basically just replaces an image in the system much like flashing boot images.
