4G switch or widget? - HTC Rezound

I posted a similar post in the apps section, but I am perm rooted and I need a 4G switch, not a link to the system settings... Any suggestions? I need the on and off functionality, not a lame shortcut to the network settings.
Sent from... An HTC Rezound

I have not found a widget switch, only the apps you mention that shortcut to the menu to do it manually. I don't mind them that much so I have not searched very hard for a widget.

Well it seems the CM team is making strides in that dept! Let's hope to see it over this way soooon!!

[MOD] - Faves Button Remapped for 2.2 Espresso Sense

[Info]:
Alright, as requested here is a remap of the silly faves button on the espresso launcher. This is from the CR_Mod 2.2 espresso build. However it should work fine with any rooted 2.2 non-odexed espresso.
This will allow you to re map it to open any app installed on your phone, or various system settings, or open a quick launch box with a selection of 8 or so apps. I did this method over on the G2 forums as it is easier than mapping to each individual app requested - not to mention even better since you can remap it any time on the fly.
You MUST have the launchkey app installed. It is available on the forums for free here, or better yet, help the developer out and buy the one on the market for a mere 0.65 cents. It's dirt cheap and it has more options!
[How To]:
Install the launchkey app from above
Grab the attached file below
Boot into recovery
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/app/Rosie.apk
adb push [your saved file location]\Rosie_espresso2.2_custom.apk /system/app/Rosie.apkReboot
Thanks dude!
Edit: Any way to change the icon to the one of the app, or at least back to the default faves one?
So how exactly do you change the icon afterwards? I mapped the button to the Browser, but it has the standard menu button on there.
Don't think it will work on CRmod froyo because it.is deodexed

It works, both CR_MOD 2.13.xxx and this version are deodexed meaning they are compatible without any issues!

I'm assuming find the image in the res folder of the apk and change it to match your app. You could download and rip them off of the 2.1 method. The contacts, messaging, etc.
Works like a charm! Thanks a bunch! I know beggars can't be choosers, but is there any way to set up launchkey so that you don't have to long-press the button?
Oh, and if anyone's wondering, I'm running CM 6.1
For those looking to change the icon, I changed it to a generic one, but you can change it to any icon you wish. No, it will not adjust its own icon, as there is no way for sense to do that. Here is what you need to do:
-Create the icon.
-Replace the one in the res/drawable-normal/icon_add_rest.png with the one you made.
-Push the rosie back to your phone, and you're good

No, this is the same way that I did it with the 2.1 CR OTA. Only this time I mapped it to an app that launches other apps I had started doing individual mappings with specific icons, however everyone wants a different app. Even something simple like mapping it to the browser ends up with 3 or 4 different possibilities because people use after market browsers.

I'm confused here
If you're not on ESPRESSO SENSE, how does it work like a charm? Did you think this thread was about the launchkey app specifically? Did you think I made launchkey.apk? Did you think this mod was for CM6.1?
This mod will only work on espresso 2.2. If you're on CM, this MOD will not work, only the APP will work. The APP (LaunchKey.apk), as is linked in the OP, is made by someone else, not me. Requests to the function of the app may be directed at him. I merely edited the code in Rosie.apk so that it launches the app instead of Faves.
Yes I know, but after I pushed rosie.apk the genius button launches the app I set up, like it should. I must have read the thread wrong, and for that I apologize, but there's no need to be hostile/angered/annoyed or whatever. The fact is, it worked. Thanks for the mod regardless.

Nobody is angry or annoyed. I just asked what i thought were possibilities, because I find it hard to follow the train of thought with out answers. That aside, you are correct this is for remapping faves button. I'm also confused as to why you pushed rosie on a CM rom?
Because I've owned my slide for only two months and have absolutely no clue what rosie.apk is, haha. I'm an engineer, not a computer programmer, I just dabble in these things and learn as I go

Ah, I see. Well thats why I asked! Answer the questions, or ask your own, and I'll help out.
To keep it simple and short -
The sense user interface, made by htc, is the biggest version of android next to vanilla (just basic google android). However because of the extensive changes to the system framework that they did, the sense specific apps (with a very few exceptions) will not work on vanilla android. However, its a one way street, just about all vanilla apps work fine on sense roms.
The 'espresso' ui (what the mytouch slide ships with) is just a slightly smaller/modified version of the regular sense ui, with only a few changes, and follows the same restrictions.
CM roms are based off of the vanilla roms with tons of changes and modifications.
So.. Rosie.apk, what this thread is modifing, is the sense ui's launcher (home screen) and therefore does not work on vanilla (CM) roms. Its only for those still running rooted versions of the stock rom.
Simple enough, thanks for the info. I've been trying to get into the more nitty/gritty side of Android. I've already started brushing up on my Java to fool around with some programming, but it's kinda hard when you have absolutely no experience with linux! It helps to have people like you who are willing to take the time to explain to a noob like me what I'm doing wrong, haha.
Oh, btw, sorry for hijacking your thread...
works also with odexed Standard-Rom
Works like a Charm also with Standard odexed 2.2 Rom! Thanks a lot!

[info]How to enable AOSP lockscreen

I'm sure that a lot of you know this already, and also that most of you enjoy the Sense 3.0 lockscreen. However, in case any of you wanted the simplicity of the AOSP lockscreen, here is a simple way to do it. With the Evo 4G it was the same way, but you needed to use the AOSP clock for the alarm to function properly. So far I've had no issues with it here, I'm able to unlock the screen and click dismiss, and the alarm turns off. So I've had no problems using it yet. If you have a screen lock or whatever, you'll need to enter it to unlock before being able to dismiss. That is good, to ensure you're really awake, lol.
Using Root Explorer or any other root level file manager, such as ES File Explorer, navigate to the /system/app folder. Scroll down to HtcLockScreen.apk, and rename it to HtcLockScreen.bak (I prefer to rename change the file extension to .bak so the app disables, in case I choose to go back to it, it's as simple as changing it back to .apk and rebooting). Once the HTC lockscreen is disabled, you're left with the stock AOSP lockscreen, which is there all along. Don't forget to make sure Root Explorer is mounted as R/W before doing that. Once done, reboot. You should then have the AOSP lockscreen.
EDIT: And btw, I'm currently not using the Rosie launcher. I'm using the stock gingerbread launcher, so I'm unsure if or how this will affect using Rosie. Report back if there are any problems with that, so others know. Thanks.

I'm using the launcher from the Supra rim thread. He has an apk attached. I haven't had ant issues with it. The apologize drawer doesn't have that "rounded scroll " effect when you scroll it, if that's what you mean. Otherwise it works great.

I thought so too at first. But a month and change in (for the most part) and I found that I almost never used those shortcuts. I'm talkin' single digits here...perhaps countable on one hand....the weather is really cool, but, that ring...I'm all like "what?" But, as usual around here, to each his own.
Thank god for the stock lock screen...thanks OP

It is a good lock screen. But either way it's always best to have options.
I'm now trying to switch to the AOSP lockscreen. Works fine when I rename the htclockscreen.apk file but... I'd sure like a way to turn off the menu button which completely defeats the entire lock system. Reason I want to switch is that HTC still doesn't know how to make a lock screen that doesn't constantly pocket answer. Sense 3.0 is no better. So the AOSP lockscreen would do the job: if I could disable the menu button so that pressing menu does nothing (like it should). Anyone know how to disable the menu button on the lockscreen? Would also be nice to turn off the haptic garbage when sliding the slider too.
Any info? I found a flash for the Evo 4G that disables the menu button on the lockscreen but it involved replacing a .jar file in the framework folder. I'm thinking an Evo 4G file in there would probably not be compatible with the Evo 3D so we probably need our own file, right?
Thanks,
Mike
Hell yeah. Just what I've been looking for. Thanks. Works great!
is there any way to do the opposite?
use aosp throughout the whole rom
but have the htcsenselockring?
sorry if it had already been asked.
Guess I'm stuck with the HTC lockscreen answering in my pocket. You lose too much using the AOSP lockscreen:
(1) Caller ID on lockscreen: have to unlock to see who is calling and after that, there's no way to relock before you put it back in your pocket: pressing the power button disconnects the call. Smart!
(2) Menu button completely overrides the lock. Again... SMART!
(3) Idiotic haptic feedback while sliding the lock.
Just wish HTC would do it right. All they'd have to do is offer a side to side or different type of unlock as an option. Screen Suite actually works pretty well but you have two choices of a lock slider: iPhone (don't get me started) and a stupid cartoony spaceship that looks completely ghey. Sigh... this should be SIMPLE!

There is a ROM that has that, it has the sense lock screen but an ASOP look. Sadly I forgot which one it was since I flash like every other day.
Edit: Its Project ROM.
The easiest way to get the AOSP lockscreen instead of Sense imo is just go into Titanium Backup, go to Backup/Restore tab, scroll down to HTC Lockscreen(not sure of the name of the actual app but it is obvious and has HTC Lockscreen in the name), uninstall it and then reboot your phone and you will have AOSP lockscreen.
I used this method but now when my screen is off and I receive a call, I have to unlock the screen, but it only displays the red end button as if I am already in a call. It does not allow me to answer the call. Any remedy to this? Thanks

[REQUEST] Port JsChiSurf's Power Control Notification mod to the Photon?

Having owned my EVO since November of last year, one of the mods/apps on my phone that has been with every ROM is JsChiSurf's power control notification bar. It is THE most useful and crucial apps I have on my phone. Although I know there are other 'widgets' on the market that "sort of" replicate it, JsChiSurf's mod is the only one that allows you to have access to any of the power controls you frequently need from any screen quickly and easily, whereas, with most power control widgets, you have to go back to the screen where the widgets are located.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836721&highlight=notification+power
My Photon is arriving today and since it doesn't appear JsChiSurf made the jump to the Photon, it's the one mod that I'm going to truly miss. Because of that, I was wondering if any of you talented developers out there knows how to port this mod to the Photon? I'm willing to pay a bounty ($20, via Paypal) to anyone who can do it.

I agree. This has always been a great feature on past rooted phones. This type of mod is also included in CM7 and is better because you can change them on the fly without flashing and can have more than 6. Either way, would be nice to have.

Brother (or sister if you're female), thank you for pointing me in the direction of that app. I just installed it and it looks like the concept was modeled on JsChiSurf's notification bar (and considering the developer was from XDA, I wouldn't doubt it).
I just installed it on my Photon and it seems to work the same way. In fact, it's a bit more user friendly in that it allows you to select which toggles you want on the notification bar from a menu selection, rather than editing a text file. And although I haven't tested ALL the functions yet, so far, most are working on my Photon. I now have room again on my homescreen (temporarily had widgets installed) and can now access those functions from any screen.
Again, thank you very much! I guess I need to pull my head out of my *ss once in a while and take a look at what's new on the Market.

I tried this for a while. It's nice, but the Photon doesn't support the all-in-one notification, so each control takes a notification slot. It's nice, but I'm still holding out for Power Control Notification.

[Q] Can I add more quick settings?

Hello,
I did research and came accross this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201724
My question is, would this allow you to choose what settings you have in the quick settings?
Im on the stock rogers firmware and the quick settings contain
- wifi
- wifi hotspot
- mobile network
- bluetooth
- gps
- all settings
- total memory
If possible, I would just like to add some sort of brightness toggle and a device rotation lock.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
edit : thought i should mention im on stock rooted
go back to that thread you researched, 4th post down is a extended quick settings. in it has volume, auto brightness and auto rotation added.

Okay I flashed it, I didnt get any more settings, and i lost the ability to transfer files through USB. When i plug it in, it will only notice USB debugging mode.
Edit : a simple reboot fixed that. But I dont have any more settings :S
Personally, I use extended controls! It lets you create custom widgets to control pretty much anything you want. It's highly customizable!
Other than the clock, my homescreen is 100% extended controls widgets. Notice on the bottom row, I have 5 shortcuts, instead of the standard four that sense gives us. And there are no labels, which to me makes the screen seem a bit less cluttered.

[Q] App list, dialer and other basic questions after Jester's Liquid ICS

I've recently updated to Jesters Liquid beta rom and now to the new 2.7 version if this makes any difference. I used to have a setting on the stock rom that allowed me to view all my apps as a list instead of pages of icons. I can't find this setting now. Is this due to Nova launcher, ICS, or me just not being able to find it? I really, really prefer a list with large text, much like the manage apps list that shows up, instead of a bunch of little icons that all look similar to older eyes that also don't see colors well.
I use Go Contacts ex and it's dialer, but this seems to be the same with the stock dialer. If I program a number to speed dial that has pauses inserted int he number, the call will not go through. It worked on the stock rom, but not on the newer roms. Is there a different dialer I could try or some other setting I can use to make these numbers with the pauses work again? (that's a trick from long ago where you would insert a pause after the phone number and then another number after it, like a password or access code, so that you could get into a voicemail system, etc. by just using your speed dial)
Pop up notification from a phone call. Any way to really increase the size of the text on this? I don't have any contact pictures downloaded, so I need to be able to see the name or number of who's calling. Any suggestions?
The status bar at the very top. I think I've figured out most of the icons, but could use a little help to be sure. Left to right it looks like
Bluetooth Screen brightness Location settings? (does this turn on and off GPS or what?) Refresh (is this to turn off sync features or what does it do) Wifi, Flashlight. How did I do?
I can come up with more questions, but I'm guessing you're tired of reading by now, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
So, 24 hours, almost 200 views and not one response? I must have asked the most difficult noob questions ever, or am just so stoooopid that no one wants to waste their time with me. Wonder which one it is?
I can only help with the status bar question.....
Go to Menu.... System settings .... Interface ....... Status bar ....... Toggles....... Power widget ....... Widget button order.
From there you can see what is selected and the associated icons. I have changed the defaults, so I don't know if your guesses are correct. From the Power widget menu, choose Widget buttons to change which buttons are displayed.

I'm using Apex launcher on Liquid's pure ICS, not Nova on Jester's, but they're more alike than different and you can install Apex if Nova doesn't have this. But either way, try hitting the menu key, then Manage Apps, it should give you a list like you're looking for. Likewise, go to the App Drawer and click on Menu and it should give you the same option, or Settings -->Device -->Apps

I use the stock dialer, so I'm not sure about Go, but having used it in the past, I'm sure what you're looking for is in there. You might want to see if there's a FAQ section on their website, or go to one of the less technical forums and do a search in their apps section. Alternately, you could try DW Dialer, EX Dialer or Dialer One and see if they better meet your needs.
Pop up notification from a phone call. Any way to really increase the size of the text on this? I don't have any contact pictures downloaded, so I need to be able to see the name or number of who's calling. Any suggestions?
Try Settings --> Display -->Font Size
or
Settings -->System-->Accessibility and see if the app it suggests helps
or
search for Accessibility in the Play Store.
Also, maybe a different theme or dialer would help.

Everyone's is going to be different.
Go to
Settings -->Shortcuts-->Interface-->General and/or StatusBar. Check and uncheck stuff and see what it does. You won't break anything, though you might want to do a back up first in case you just really screw it up.

From there you can see what is selected and the associated icons. I have changed the defaults, so I don't know if your guesses are correct. From the Power widget menu, choose Widget buttons to change which buttons are displayed.

Toggles
Clock
Battery

I'm not seeing Power widget anywhere
Edit: Found Power widget under Toggles.
Thanks.

You might not have enough posts yet to post in the Dev section, but you can certainly scroll through it and see if other folks have asked the same questions.

I'm not allowed up there yet, but I have read the thread hoping to find the answers I am looking for.

I haven't found it in Nova. I thought I had looked at Apex before, but if it offers a list view, then I'll switch. Thanks for the tip.

I tried it on the stock dialer too. The problem appears to be related to the stock dialer programming. I think the dialer apps I've played with somehow just piggyback off the stock dialer for function.

I guess I'm looking for a few steps up from Huge.
And I've got Big Font installed, but it only works on some items, not all of them.

or
search for Accessibility in the Play Store.
Also, maybe a different theme or dialer would help.

I haven't had much luck searching. Everything seems to be centered around a larger contact picture instead of larger text. I don't have any contact pictures in the phone, so that doesn't help me.
Thank you for taking the time to reply though.

And just to be clear. If I select Manage Apps, a list of apps does show up like I'm wanting, but that menu is made for stopping, uninstalling, etc. I would like my app drawer button or whatever you call it to display my apps as a list when I'm looking for an app to open. I'll download Apex and give it a spin
It's an inelegant solution but maybe a good start. Download ES File explorer. That has an app manager button that lists everything in text format. Click in an app and it gives you a choice for details or open.

That kind of works. If I leave the app manager open in list view as the last thing in that app, then each time the app is opened I get a list view of apps. It requires pushing on the app and then pushing open, but at least it's a list, so I'm happy. Apex lets me move the app icon out of the way and stick the ES app in it's place, so this will work for now I think.

It's a Sense thing. I think most of what you're looking for is available stock on Sense based roms.
Someone just developed a new one based on the BAMF leak and it's pretty smooth.
Take a look at:

I'll look, but honestly, I really don't enjoy switching to new roms. It takes me forever to get everything up and running the way I want it and to learn almost enough to function daily with it. I do like the list view though, so I'll keep an eye on reports of battery life. I did try the BAMF leak and was extremely disappointed with the battery life (running extended battery) and data drops. That was my first new rom (I originally rooted just to get rid of bloatware), and I was complaining about my dislikes on another forum when someone pointed me to Liquid's version here. I downloaded Jesters beta version and loved it compared to the BAMF leak. After having read all the internet articles, I was under the impression that the BAMF leak was the cat's meow. Now I realize those articles are about as unbiased as the national so called news.
Is Santod's new sense rom as laggy as the BAMF leak, or have they tweaked that out of it by now.

Almost no comparison to BAMF. Much smoother. Honestly, not as smooth as Liquid/Jester but data/signal seems more stable and almist everything works.
If visual stuff, contrast and ease if use are issues for you, it's worth a spin. I'm also running Apex. I don't know if that contributes to lag over the native Sense, but it has the features I want.
Yeah, switching toms is a royal pain, but you do what ya gotta do.
