[Q] Internet Explorer keeps directing me to the wrong google country? - Nokia Lumia 800

Anyone know how to somehow reset IE? Everytime i search something in the browser address bar it directs me to google hong kong, which of course i can't read chinese so im not sure if theres some kind of preference page on google

How'd you get it to use Google? I can't see a way to change from Bing.

In your internet explorer settings? drag up the 3 dots and you can change your search from bing, yahoo or google

Don't have that option. How odd

i also dont have this option

Maybe yours original PC is for Japan?

i can read chinese
but i think you may change the setting of language of the phone
i remember there is one about the area

No default search provider for me, my only options are desktop/mobile sites and what to open links from apps in.
My phone came direct from Nokia, not branded or anything.

Welcome to the lucky few that have bought this wonderful machine.
I bought mine in usa, and got an american market. Ok, not much fuss about that, but when I got back home to Sweden it got transformed to Swedish version. All I had to do was change the language. Not sure if this helps much.
You can find a market.apk file on the XDA forums here but it sounds like it's locating you and making Chinese the default language. Try looking into settings in the market app or the tablet in general and turning off the "use my location" features which will probably override other settings...
Same thing..
Btw... the Chinese market called "HiMarket version 2"
any Idea
Did you try and change your locale or did you try and download the apk file and install it over te old one ?
might try this "location & security - My Locaton" uncheck all three.
"Language & input" change to another language, maybe uk if you have us and vice a versa.
"date & time" selecte a different timezone
Maybe this will help.

I think i need to download an official Android market .. but i don't know how !
Where was it used first? It may be that it just remember the first use in china and maybe removing google account from sync in settings first, then clearing data from applicaations settings. Then adding google account again and starting market on a usa wifi will fix all for you. If it still goes not help try what happens if you start a weblink to a market app from somewhere here. It should give you an option to run via browser or market-see if that could be a workaround.

Sounds like you have tried most of it.
Have you concidered trying to do a reset/factory reset? See if that helps.
Yes, I did...
Could anyone upload an apk android market for me?
Any Idea How to solve this problem ?
I'm at work so can't access the site to find the direct link for you, but back in the day when the "new" market first came out, I got it off 4shared.
I hope this helps

New updated Market (11/01/2011). It's being pushed to some handsets.
Download:
Android Market 3.3.11
What's changed?
+++New setting: Auto-update apps (presumably, sets all apps to auto-update mode, woohoo!)
+++New setting: Update over Wi-Fi only
+++New setting: Auto-add shortcuts (automatically adds homescreen shortcuts for new apps, ala Honeycomb)
+++Smaller font
+++New app drawer icon
+++Microphone (voice command) button in search menu
+++Star rating chart on app pages
+++Minor UI tweaks

After installing the Market.apk I get a pop-up asking to add an account and either option just closes the Market. I tried going to the Android Market through the internet browser but whenever I try to download something it says I don't have an Android device connected to the Google account. I have also tried setting up my Google account through the email option in the tablet but it still says I have no Android device synced
How to solve this issue?
Any Idea??
Try manage applications > market >clear cache. then clear data.
then do the same for download manage, now that you have a diff market installed it might have crappy data lingering around.
---------- Post added at 04:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:38 AM ----------
OR if there is anything in applications such as account or accounts and sync, clear cache and data of that too!
OK so this information will probably not help you at all, but on the Milestone 2 forums, a member flashing a chinese leak gingerbread update reported that there were no google account menus, no market and had an alternate market called apps2you or something.. can't remember. Anyway, he said once he installed the market.apk it would only crash and do things like what you described. Unfortunately no-one in the thread responded about that issue.
I'm starting to think you may need to get on a different firmware...
---------- Post added at 06:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:21 AM ----------
Ok just found this article
Summary: You need root access to enable a proxy hack as a work around to access the english market
Alternative is using the Chinese market.
Hi
Hi i think i can answer your question, the answer is no, you cannot use any google service or software in your andriod system which bought in China, the reason is that because of the conflict between google and Chinese government, the Chinese government had decided to banned any google service running in China, those including google search, gmail, google map and all google service in andriod sysytem, so thats why you cannot install andriod Market in you tablet. Even you may find andriod market from somewhere, but you still cannot install it, because to install google software or service, you need rooting right to put the google service frame into the andriod system with system authority not application authority(e.g.you install a game). Thereofre before your tablet s1 root, you cannot use any google service on you tablet s1. Hope this help.
Hey, having the same problem, and pretty sure it's due to the government thing. I spoke to some helpline who said the only thing to do is live with it.
However, perfectly willing to root the thing, maybe even give it ICS update if possible?
The thing is, will the software be sufficiently similar for the same rooting technique to work? Or will it just screw up what I have left of the system?

Root your phone (plenty of guides around)
Install Orbot from market. In orbot settings, enable transparent proxying, set the exit nodes field to "{us}" without quotes, and tick the strict exit nodes box.
install market enabler from market and fake one of the US settings.
Market should now act as though it was in the US. using orbot will make your internet slower but you il appear to be in the US. Disable orbot when you are finished so your internet is fast again.

The same thing happened to me too. My solution is
1. Put Pandora® internet radio(for example) into google search and you'll get a result like "Pandora® internet radio - Apps on Android Market"(usually the second result ).Open it with your computer's browser.
2.use a chrome plugin(or a firefox plugin or some webservice or something ) to generate a QRcode for the URL above.
3.open market enabler and fake your region to USA.
4.open Barcode scanner (or something like that), scan that QRcode into your phone .When it ask you "Complete action using ?",choose "market".
5.download it
it worked for me when i tryed to download google maps from USA market (CHN market even don't have google maps ,can you believe that? ) Hope that can help you

Google Now

Is anybody else not able to open the settings in Google Now? Ever since I did the last update for Google Search I can longer open the settings but I can open the settings for the individual cards but not the main settings.
Some of the reviews in the store are saying the same thing.
I have that issue on some ROMs but not others.

[Q] This item isn't available in your country (apps error from play)

I looked in other threads but was curious to hear about my 6802 as to why when I try to install various apps, for example:
Xperia Privilege, Google Play store errors like this: "This item isn't available in your country"
I think my phone is actually from Singapore (ebay seller in the US).
I see there is an old app called Market Enabler, but I'm also curious how to see which market the phone is actually from.
I'm on stock 14.1.B.1.532 build.
I sure hope this isn't a dumb question nor is answered elsewhere.
Any help is appreciated

AFAIK, Chinese roms are heavily locked down for Google play. It may be worth looking at your buildprop entries and seeing which locale is set and change it to us.

I have the same annoying problem.
My phone is from HK, but my Play store is the US version, and I think that the Privilege app is for the asian markets and not the US that's why it's not available on the app store.
I think that the lock on app downloads on the play store has to do with what country your google wallet and play store account is associated with rather than the country/version of your Xperia device.
Right now is actually locked by your Ip address.
The only workaround is to connect your phone via VPN to a server in the specific country

Actually it is not build.prop related, it is from the market localisation. This app is exclusive in Asia and can't be downloaded from countries out of it.
You can try market helper, but not sure it'll work. If not there is allot of market apps hacked on the Web, but can't tell if any will actually work.

That's what I thought... I would change your country code in the rom. This will likely mean you format back to original install so will lose apps and data, but think then you should be OK as it will install UK playstore apps etc. Or to be safer, flash the UK 510 rom from scratch.

Mean Portuguese as been added to the country list. So Google playstore allow you to download it. Country list just got updated.
Yes, Google totally change the way of the country restriction. Many people complain about it, even using VPN services doesn't work. It is not attached to the sim card as well. And changing CDA change nothing too.
I have TW CDA but only can access to applications available in Vietnam, and it was the same when I had VN or HK CDA.

Ambiguous incompatibility!
Hi all,
My wife and I recently came to US and we got ourselves an HTC One M7 each. The phones were purchased from BestBuy and currently work on AT&T. Until today, I have found few US specific applications that are successfully installed on my wife's phone and working great, but not on mine. The error I see is "This app is incompatible with your device" - on both Play store on the web and on my phone.
The apps I have identified so far are:
1. Papa John's Pizza
2. Netflix
3. Hulu Plus
Also, both our phone numbers start with the same area code. And if it is of any help, we moved to USA from New Zealand (Pandora Internet Radio and Spotify work. I am not sure if they were available in NZ).
Steps I have taken so far:
1. Upgraded OS from Android 4.1.2 to Android 4.3 (still didn't receive the 4.4.2 update).
2. Ensured account information on Google Account (Google+) shows correct country.
3. Searched in vain for "Country" setting found anywhere else across Google's applications. Although I believe there is a setting lurking some place.
4. Checked "Let Google apps access your location" found under Settings -> Location
5. Ensured System language shows "English (United States)" - found under Settings -> Language & keyboard
6. Coaxed my wife into swapping phones.
Nothing has worked so far. I do not plan on rooting my phone or using a market helper. But if that is the only choice, I would do it. They are my last resort though. Although, I really hope it is some setting some place that I am missing.
Could anybody please help fix this?
Thanks for reading this and your solution.

How I wish I can be back to where I belong! I do miss NZ.
However, to answer your question, I do not think this is device specific. It seemed more relevant to the error than the device.

Wow... I did the following and that fixed the issue.
1) Sign into your Google Wallet account to manage your payment methods
2) Delete all of your payment methods from Google Wallet, and only add a card to one with a billing address located inside your desired country
3) Open the Play Store and navigate to any item available for download
4) Click to begin a download until you reach the "Accept and buy" screen (no need to complete the purchase)
5) Close the Play Store and clear data for the Google Play Store application (Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Clear Data) or clear your browser cache
6) Re-open the Play Store. You should now see the Play Store that matches your default payment instrument's billing country.

Well it's the same as mine. The problem may be the Google Play Services as @2001db8 pointed out. You have all the permissions granted to Assistant?

Its got all the permissions , if I clear the cache on the Google play services, it will start working, the google auth app wont though and one I restart it breaks the assistant again.

Did you get the handset from cell c ? Trying to figure out how the various operators decide which version they sell, got mine from Telkom if I knew the other version had more internals I would have opted for that, this is what I get for not doing my homework.

And I take it you have no problems with the Google Assistant Settings or Google auth app

I have no issue whatsoever, I use the Google assistant on a daily basis ( Yeah I'm that lazy lol) and the Google authentication app is working just fine (I have setup my two way authentication code for my various emails accounts and other stuff) i'm pretty happy with this p20 lite and I wasn't expecting to have such a good experience in the first place.

And I take it you have restarted your phone recently at least, mine works fine until I do that, then the auth camera and assistant settings break
