[Q] Download Speeds - HTC Amaze 4G

When i was on stock rom i would get download data speeds of surprisingly 15-20mbs (speedtest app), but now i flashed Revolution rom and i get 200kb speeds which is pretty crappy.. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

probably a better idea to ask in revolution forum, since those people have the rom, there's also a troubleshooting section in the revolution rom section in the first post i think.

[Q] How do you know which modem to use?

Hi guys!
I am currently running my Samsung Vibrant with the latest Bionix-v ROM. I was looking at the Modems that were listed in the referenced and I was wondering which one I should use for the ROM I have? In other words, which one should I use? I am currently with Mobilicity (Canadian Carrier).
Vibrants seem to be very choosy when it comes to modems. Different people will get different results from different modems. This is why in modem threads you'll see some people report increased speed/reception/battery and others will report decreases. The best way to choose one is to try them out first hand. I personally like KA6 and KB1, but the hybrid KA5 from bionix v seems pretty decent too.

Thanks for the reply. How would I install a specific modem on my custom ROM? Also, do I need to prepare my phone beforehand for installing a specific modem?
EDIT: Oh and how do I know which I currently have on? Like whereabouts in options would I find it at?
a few questions there. lets see if i can help a lil
1. install it just like installing a new rom. boot into recovery and flash the modem.zip file. once flashed. reboot. DONT FORGET TO BACKUP
2.other than backing up on prep work necessary.
3.home-menu-settings-about phone should say which modem you currently are on.
4. try out all the 2.2 modems. For me, I'm all about which modem gets me the best gps results. locks/accuracy, etc. KB1 is my baby. But all depends if you want gps, data speed, connection, voice or battery life.

Sounds good. I'm going to try out KB1 now and see if there is any improvement on reception/gps.
Also, I touched on this in another thread. Different people have different uses for their modems. Ie; I personally am willing to sacrifice some battery for top notch connectivity and gps so the recent kb1 is working out fantastic right now.

obtaining modem zip files
First time poster and obvious noob, but I hope it's ok to post a follow up here.
I want to try the KB1 modem and found a link (multiupload.com) to it in the "Vibrant Modems" thread in the dev forum.
I went ahead and registered on multiupload.com, but I can't seem to locate the actual zip file. Every download link I click just torments me with adverts. Is there another place where I can find this file?
Thanks

[Q] S5830l firmware and custom roms

Hi,
I have a SGA, the ''L'' one, which works with a different gingerbread version (KP8) than the European one. The question is, can I install any custom rom? I'm somewhat confused about that, because I've read in the installation instructions for each of them that I need to have KPH or KPN previously installed in my ace, but if I do that the 3g won't work, SOD appears, etc Is there a way to have a custom rom and at the same time not killing my data plan?
Sorry for my English.
what i do is flash the L modem after i install a cstom rom to get 3g, but the sod is still there...
So there is no real solution? How bad. Thanks for the help.
but if I do that the 3g won't work, SOD appears

Have you really ever tried flashing firmwares and installing roms. You need to experience it yourself and see if it works for you. I don't experience SODs and my data plan is stable. But I'm not using the L version. So I guess, you should really try it out.

[Q] Reception / antenna problems (GetRIL)

hello fellow xdas
while back i had gotten my hands dirty with the CM10 project as i just couldn't wait for the official update! i learned quickly that i had serious problems with antenna/reception. i tried carious base bands (as recommended on forums) using GetRil/flash.Odin. this didnt seem to help, even though i would get better reception, my signal was unstable. In the process i tried other roms like JellyBam and had the same issue.
As this is my main phone and i do actually need to call with it, i went back to the stock rom i downloaded. but surprisingly i still have the same issue! GetRil also shows that i have incompatible RIL/baseband. this is what it shows:
RIL: I9100NELP2; I9100XXKI4
Baseband: I9100XXLPQ
FYI: i am located in the Netherlands and use T-mobile network.
so have i installed the wrong ROM or done something wrong in the process... ? does anyone have any experience with this? i much rather have CM10 but only if i can get to call normally once again?
thanks

Use either of the 2 links below to download either the NELP2 modem of the XXKI4 modem, and them flash them onto your phone via Recovery Mode. That should resolved your incompatible RIL issue.

thanks a lot zee54,
can i just go back to my CM10 or JellyBam, install the above mentioned radios and get everything working? or does it depend on the RIL which that ROM is running! I have tried a number of modems when i had CM10, but dont know if i tried those... i did try BVLP7 for sure
Based on this forum right here i need to have the I9100BOLPD ROM as stock for Netherlands T Mobile!

The modem is independent of the ROM, mate. So it wont make much of a difference whether you install the radio on stock firmware or on CM10. You could try using the modems mentioned by zee54 with CM10 and seeing if it helps. Also, give it about a day or so..since the phone tends to take a while to get 'used' to a new modem.

The unstable signal or "RIL Crash" as it it called isn't actually caused by having an incompatible RIL and Baseband (modem). It is a more complicated issue which I don't fully understand myself. But what I do know is that it currently affects all customs roms that are based on CM10 and use the CM Kernel. So switching modems might help recude the frequency of the problem but probably won't irradicate it completely.
You should not experiencing this problem if you go back to stock samsung firmware. If you experience problems you might want to do a full wipe (Data, Cache, Dalvic-cache) before reflashing and fix permissions afterwards.
On a more positive note, I have found that using the Siyah Kernel with your custom rom does seem to eliminate this problem, or at least reduce it occurance to such that I have not noticed it happening.
So personally i would suggest that if you wish to go back to CM10 or JellyBam ROMs, then do so but also install the latest Siyah Kernel for the S2 from here http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
(Here's the XDA Thread for the Siyah Kernel - [KERNEL] SiyahKernel v4.1.5 (v5.0a2))
I am currently running CM10 with the Siyah Kernel v5.0b2 and it is working very nicely
great stuff guys... 2x thanks for both of you!
Zeey54, i just had Siyah v5 Kernal installed, installing the latest JellyBam right now! so lets see what happens. i was suspecting that beside the RIL/baseband there were other factors as i did not see any significant difference between them. but then again i dont trust my judgement on such issues as my knowledge is quite limited.
will send an update with the result after installation in a few min.

installed the BOLP7 modem, overall reception is much better! data connectivity is also better and faster. but i still have some periods which my receptions drops and goes back up, seems like radio/modem crash (if im right). dont know if that is due to the kernel or modem or ...?
the reason i went for BOLP7 modem was because the latest official stock rom from t-mobile Netherlands was I9100BOLPM_I9100TNLLP8_I9100BOLP7, so i thought that would be the best one to try!
will wait a little more to see if this improves as the modem settles.
4th official ROM too much coverage you please make a review ?
need modem
First of all, thank you mate for your hardwork and awesome utility.
I have a Samsung galaxy S2 I9100G , recently flashed jelly bam custom rom. I am based in Saudi Arabia, the reception is not clear and people complain that it is switched off or out of network. I tried calling with another mobile and i got a response that my mobile is switched off, at the same time i checked my S2 mobile , it shows the full signal of the network in status bar.
what should i do? Which modem should i flash. the getRIL shows RIL/baseband is matching (I9100GDDLP5).
cheers
Rizwan

A couple of quick questions

Hi all, a couple of quick questions which I hope someone can help me with before I continue.
At the moment I have a stock galaxy s2 which is running Android 4.0.4 I am looking to load twrp recovery but cannot find any info whether this is safe from the brick bug on 4.0.4. I believe with cwm recovery I need to make sure I load the correct one to avoid this, I don't know if twrp had the same issue?
Also, I'm looking to flash Infamous Resurrection ROM, does anyone know if this or any other ROMs support HSDPA+ or can I expect most to do that?
Thanks in advance for any help you're able to offer.

in order to get rid of the infamous brick bug( on v4.0.4) u can root ur phone using the Siyah kernel v5.0.1(.tar file flashable with Odin), so that it will root ur phone and install the latest Cwm recovery and also siyah is safe from Brick bug issue
after that u can install RR v3.1.2 or RootBox v3.2 on ur phone for HSDPA+ support
Is hspda+ different from hspa+? I thought all roms we have supported hspa+

[Q] Questions regarding how to install ICS on my T-mobile Amaze 4G.

Hi,
I got a second hand T-mobile Amaze 4G and since it's second hand, I don't have very accurate info regarding what the previous guy had done with it. I've been reading extensively the forums for past weeks since all this stuff was new to me and I'm better now but still have a few questions though.
What I want to achieve is to have a stable ICS ROM on my phone. If I understood correctly, as of now nightly build of Cyanogenmod and
Info regarding my phone:
A) Carrier is T-mobile.
B) Probably is S-on, I can be wrong.
C) Have no idea about it's SuperCID status.
D) It's recovery was "CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7" but I installed 4EXT Recovery Touch V.1.0.0.5 RC7 on it since I read most ROMs require this.
(That's all I can think off from what I read is required to know about one's phone, but if not, ask me and I'll do my best to reply)
My questions:
1- Since my phone's carrier is T-mobile, do I still have to s-off my phone if I want to install ICS on it?
2- If the previous question's answer is positive, do I have to run Juopunutbear under Ubuntu? I read unlimited.io's website and they suggested Ubuntu and removed Windows versions of Juopunutbear due to compatibility (and user trolls) but I see youtube tutorials on to do it under Windows. Is it advised to do it under Ubuntu? It's hard to download 700Mb and also work under Ubuntu for me.
3- Which ROM is better for me? I'm a game developer and just need a stable phone so I can test my game on it. I need SD card access when I mount the phone to my computer so I can easily deploy my games. I do like the stock ICS look of Cyanogenmod but apparently Revolution is more stable, right? I'm open to other alternatives, I just want a stable ROM and hopefully look of stock ICS.
4- I tried installing both of the Cyanogenmod and Revolution but after the installing them and restarting the phone, it gets stuck at htc logo. I've read that this can be due to s-on but I also read that T-mobile phones do not require those steps. So this is my main problem now.
Thank guys so much in advance.
Update
I put the the 4EXT recovery into SmartFlash mode and then flashed the Cyanogenmod again and after the install, it did not stuck at htc logo but when I unlock the phone, it freezes after 1-2 seconds and the auto restarts! :'(
This is a good thread to read through before you start flashing ROMs, since your phone is S-ON.
Make sure you enable smartflash in 4EXT

Thanks for the reply. What's I believe is missing from that topic is that you need to upgrade the firmware. I think that's why my phone gets frozen after 1-2 seconds, amsearching for the firmware I have to upgrade.
Another question to my initial ones:
5- If I upgrade my firmware, will I be able to install GB ROMs again on it? Or do I have to downgrade my firmware in order to do so?
did you wipe completely before flashing the ROM? Wipe cache, dalvik cache and wipe data?

Yes, I run the Super Wipe script, "Super_Wipe_Amaze_4G.zip", so it does all that. I strongly believe my problem is that I didn't install the stock ICS ROM before installing Cyanogenmod and am downloading the latest one.
So I have two questions:
1) When I upgrade my firmware to ICS, how am I will be able to install GB ROMs again? Do I have to install older firmwares first?
2) Which ICS ROM has stock lookingness of ICS but with most features and stability?
Thanks.
Cm10 is a jellybean rom and wont work until your phone is already running ics. If youre on gb, install a stock tmobile ics ruu and then flash cm10. For stock look and performance id recommend the energy rom.
Also someone correct me if im wrong but youll have to soff to go back to gb
Success!
Yes the problem WAS that I had to flash stock ICS RUU first then flash any ICS custom ROM over it. I now have a nice CryogenMod 10 on my device. It's not complete but I really love how it looks! Thanks to it's great devs.
It's not that stable and I see
And it lacks SD card drive mount which I used a lot, maybe I try to use AirDroid instead. Have to try it for a few days.

Thanks Hassan, what I meant by stock is not the sense look, I don't like it. What I meant is original ICS look that Nexus 7 has for example. The look that CryogenMod has. What I was asking is that is there any other ROM which looks like CryogenMod but is more stable and has more features?
And is there any comparison chart between current state of ICS ROMs? Which ones are good for daily usage?
And I still have my questions:
1) What should I do if I want to get back to GingerBreak ROMs? Should I have to install/flash GB RUU and then a custom GB ROM over it?
2) My WiFi signal is worse, like half of what is used to be, since I'm sitting next to my router, so do I have to run/flash anything to fix this?
And let me thank EXT4 Recovery's SmartFlash, I didn't need to s-off my device, which is tricky, needs Ubuntu to work fine, etc.

I dont think were allowed to compare roms here. But for the look you like with features, there are several options. One is fourth bar infusion by craigtut. Another is the one im using which is jellybam. A personal favourite rom is the dark glass 0.3 pacman by josegaire. These are tge roms with a nexus look.. the wifi signal must have something to do with the rom. Try a different one and see if it improves.

well it's your choice and for the downgrade part thats the procedure just flash a GB ROM but never seen a post who downgrade their firmware version you can try if you want it wont hurt you..but if you want to go to stock flash the ics ruu it'll do the same thing and the wifi issue i'd say try flashing the [25.MAR.13] T-Mobile OTA 2.14.531.30 [STOCK] and then flash cyanogenMod if the problem still exist ask from the Cyanogen users whether is it a problem with the rom itself

Thanks. I think the only ROMs that have the Nexus look are CM and FourthBar, right? Is FourthBar more stable for daily use than CM10? I love CM but sudden lags and occasional bugs is irritating.
The fourth bar has no issues at all. There used to be an older version of it called fourth bar nexus that was even more stable with better battery life but i think it has been taken down. Fourth bar infusion is a great daily driver though.

The fourth bar has no issues at all. There used to be an older version of it called fourth bar nexus that was even more stable with better battery life but i think it has been taken down. Fourth bar infusion is a great daily driver though.

Can you compare it to CM10? What are advantages and disadvantages between the two.

I'd suggest s-off then super cid then tmobile ics.. Telus is a Canadian carrier known for being major a##holes..
Running tmobile on my Canadian (wind mobile) amaze required Soff

I don't know what you meant by "stable ICS rom" but the latest ICS that T-mobile released has Sense UI but I want Nexus UI.
Your phone carrier is tmobile.. But.. The phone was not made for tmobile.. It was made for telus..
Telus would luck up a cockroach if they could derive a profit from even 1 customer.
You need super cid.. So you need to Soff first.
Then you can flash anything in the future
I've seen a big difference in problems between those who do Soff and those who don't.. I watch closely since I did my Soff.. It's worth it.

I flashed this "RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_R2_Radio_1.14.550L. 17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_262141_signed.zip" (and then CM10 over it) so I think it's a T-mobile ROM, right?
