Lumia 800 on UK Orange - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi Guys,
I have just started using the Nokia Lumia 800, really like it.
1 thing is with the Mix Radio thing I thought you could save the mix you are listening too and I also thought that it was a free service which didnt use any of your data allowance.
When I run the Mix app it warns me I may be charged if I am not using wifi and alos I cant see how to save the mix, so I was wondering if this is something Orange has done to modify the phone, any one know?
Thanks in advance

From what I understand this is a streaming service which will use data connectivity. So in the end it will use up your data allowance.

For some reason while reading the reviews and previews I got the impression that this was not included in your data allowance. If it is fair enough.

Do you get internet sharingwith official ron voda uk?

Hi
Got one of these coming on Friday
Does the official Rom come with internet sharing?
Im using my hermes at the moment on orange pay as you go and I get free internet all day everyday through internet sharing ( to my laptop ) !
Will my New phone do the same? Or will I need to flash it?!
I cant work out either if I need to have a data plan included, I know I would need to using internet on the phone , but not sure through the internet sharing,
On my hermes at the moment Im on Orange and get free facebook , bebo ect on the phone, but all websites free through Internet sharing !!
Please help.
My UK Vodafone Touch Pro has an Internet Sharing icon under, Programs\Tools...
You select whether you want it enabled on USB or Bluetooth, and then which connection you want it to use...
Haven't yet tried it myself though....
Also be aware that the Vodafone Mobile Internet plan is subject to a 500MB per month fair usage allowance....I think if you go over that at any point you will be charged £1 per day for internet access for the remainder of the month....
Hi, thanks for the reply,so I get 500mb included do I ?
Im on the business txt plan - unlimited txt / 600 cross network minutes.
Depends. I believe they've recently been adding the Mobile Internet Plan to new personal contracts as standard.
As an existing Vodafone customer, I had to ring up and request that it was added to my plan. No idea how it'll work on a business tarrif.
I'd strongly suggest you give Vodafone a call to confirm your data plan, because unless they've changed their charges, the out-of-bundle data costs can be a lot more than £1 per day if you go over 15Mb each day...

Tethering-Function

Does anyone know how to do that?
Yes, people know how.
Sent from the XDA App on my FroYoed Sprint Hero...so forgive possible typos
OK now I'm the same distance as before
the function no longer exists in WM7
I have just read that the function must be enabled
has anyone tried?
THX
it seems there is a way to unlock tethering on the samsung phones after dialing some access numbers..
No one has found out the access num for the HTC handsets till now..
hope it would also come out soon
code of Samsung and LG, I also found
I do not understand why Microsoft is such a "reactionary" makes
if you used the old functions in ZUNE
- Outlook sync (contacts etc)
- Tethering
in addition, the Live ID, etc
then it would have been perfect.
pity
There's an issue with carriers I believe. It would strain networks and possibly cause them to charge for the service (the Samsung workaround charges to MODEM usage, not data)
Spot on

I think Lumic is correct. The carriers maybe the ones that don't want this function. Not sure about the straining networks or charging part.. eg: Telstra is all "NextG" so what difference would it make if you hit the network to download email or web browse using your phone or thru your phone. You would still be hitting the same network for data and you have already paid for the data allowance.
I have used it previously on all my Win Phones as it saved me carrying another device.
I'm guessing the carriers want to force you to buy a 3G dongle/plan for data from them. Now that is something we could all understand
Still early days yet and all this may change.
Until then, fingers crossed someone finds the access to the maintenance menues on the Mozart and we can enable it ourselves.
I really cant imagine T$ making people pay for teathering. they want you to be able to bundle everything onto your device. It is a big feature for them to say why have 2 devices. You still pay a premium for their data.
Free Tethering on Telstra?
I have no doubt Mozart can tether. But as Microsoft WP7 is trying to get OS share on smartphones, Microsoft will try and do whatever it can to attract carriers. My old HTC TP2 -running WM6.5 - tethered with no more setup than attaching a usb cable to laptop (vista). This technology is nearly 3 years old. It was in my HTC phone back then. (Even my old Sony Ericcson P900 had it on Symbian)
T$ do want you to buy 2 devices, and charge you for both. When I first got my HTC TP2 , they wanted 2cents/kb as modem. Then you had different sim for modem and phone (and 2 different rates of pay for the same service effectively).
I hope market demand makes T$ want to offer features - especiall ones that are already on the phone. But instead - they lock these features, and put usless apps and self promoting links of no real use. They know that most users would remove this rubbish so the lock them in the menus.
To promote the Mozart, you now can get 1GBdata for $10. (previously 20MB for $10). Wouldn't it be great to tether Mozart and actually USE the 1GB! Nodoubt there are some that like the small screen, lots of video streaming and music downloads to the Mozart. But I'd rather do that on my laptop.
Please Telstra, turn on the modem!

[Q] Lumia 920 (BUILD) on AT&T without DATA charges?

I have a Lumia 920 from Microsoft BUILD 2012 which I bricked via battery-only factory reset. I repaved with AT&T RM-820; phone works fine but now of course shows up on my AT&T account as a Lumia 920. I've handed it down to my son, and would like to operate it on his existing $9.95 family plan no-data account. I think the only way to do this is to get it back to an unrecognized phone and keep data connection, right? So....I'm thinking I could repave it as a Rodgers, trust son to keep data connection turned off and I'm good to go?
If you just want a phone then why even bother with the Lumia? Just buy a cheap flip phone and be done with it. The Lumia without Data is like trying to ride a bicycle uphill with no pedals. It just won't work. It's needs a data connection to operate properly.
It is also not the ROM that identifies the phone to your provider. It is the SIM card that identifies the phone and the IEMI number that the provider sees anytime the phone is connected to their network.

If you don't want the phone to use the cellular data connection just turn data connection off in settings->cellular. That way the phone can still be used on wifi networks but you won't have to pay for a data package

AT&T detects phones by IMEI, the ROM has nothing to do with it.
A smartphone on an AT&T account requires a data plan. No way around that. Even if you were to turn data off and not use it, AT&T still detects the phone as a smartphone and will add a data package to your account if it doesn't already have one.
That being said, a non-AT&T smartphone can be added to an account without a data plan initially, but the moment it is detected as a smartphone (which could happen for any number of reasons), a data package will be added and the IMEI will be flagged as a smartphone.

That is correct.
My BUILD 920 still runs the BUILD ROM now shows up as Lumia 920 as well. Looks like AT&T expanded its IMEI database to include all Lumia 920 now.

[Q] Help With Blu Studio 5.0 d530

Hello all, I'm hoping someone can shed a little light on an "interesting" problem I'm having with my new phone. This may be my first post on here, but I have scoured this and other forums trying to come up with an answer but alas have found nothing, so here goes:
I am currently using Simple Mobile which operates on T Mobile's network. I have near-perfect signal at home but can't seem to use the damned thing for Facebook, Tapatalk, Zynga games, internet, etc without my interent connection timing out on me. I recently switched from Comcast to Dish Network and no longer have wifi at home so this is killing me.
This phone screams on wifi, and it seemingly works fine everywhere else via my data connection except at home. I normally show an H or an E at home. From what I understand T Mobile is replacing all of its edge circuits with HSPA+, so I'm thinking they just haven't got around to upgrading the tower closest to my house as of yet. I decided to get my girlfriend prepaid service on T Mobile with that $30 per month 5GB plan through Walmart and slapped the sim in my old Motorola Defy and it works great. However, if I put that same sim in my phone I'm back to square one with the same data connection problems, so I know this is not a problem with Simple Mobile (plus like I said as long as I am not at home my phone works well, too.).
So here's the real kicker -- if I use the PDANet+ app on my phone and turn on the wifi hotspot, it works just fine when I connect using my home desktop computer! This is so aggravating, why would I time out with my data connection for my own phone but as a hotspot it work flawlessly??? I'm pretty close to giving up on T Mobile because what good are they if I can't get a data connection on the phone itself at home?
Also I should mention that all of the APN settings are definitely correct. Perhaps there is a baseband selection that I can't find somewhere in the Blu Studio 5.0 d530 that may help (I know there's one in the Motorola Defy). Maybe it's because T Mobile recognizes that my phone is not a T Mobile branded phone (but the Defy IS), and if so, how can they push the whole "bring your own phone" thing so hard?
In any event, I may try just switching to Straight Talk but I really don't want to go through the hassle of porting my number and all that -- plus I'm not sure how good their signal is in my area. A search online for closest cell towers to my address results in T Mobile by a longshot.
Any help is appreciated, guys -- I'm frustrated to no end here.

Use Google Translate, if needed. Basically it just says that is the stock 4.1.2 rom with no carrier bloat.

Need help looking for a phone with specific abilities.

I'm sorry if this wasn't in the right area, I googled up this same question and this board has it the most it seems. If its in the wrong area, please move the topic to the right area so I know where to ask next tome (or link and I'll delete this ((if possible)) and recreate).
I've been using PDANet USB Tethering for the last 3 years or so with Boost Mobile, Samsung Galaxy S3. My phone is showing severe signs of age and issues, and I'm having tons of PDANet related issues. I have unlimited 4G LTE data, but I can't use my wireless tether because the phone company detects it and stops it at 8GB where as USB tethering I've gotten 100+ GB in a single month no issues.
I'm looking for a new phone I can get, that I can somehow mask everything I do on it so that the phone company is unable to see what I'm doing on it, and won't be able to determine if I'm using my phone's wireless tethering features. I prefer a smartphone, obviously, cause I do take it with me where I go and like to have access to my apps. I'm inexperienced with installing ROMs or rooting, never figured out how with my S3 because all the topics are outdated and inaccurate and I only ended up damaging the phone trying. I've got about a week or two to find a new phone that will work with Boost Mobile. My current phone's network mode is CDMA/LTE/EVDO, just to give you an idea of what network I'd need to use for Boost (CDMA I guess?). I need 4G as well, it seems that 3G doesn't work at all at my location and I only get 1 bar of 4G LTE when I'm at home in a specific 3 inch by 3 inch space in my room that I have to tape my phone down to, but at least it works.
There's no other internet options available to me where I live, so my phone is my internet. Just to clarify before people suggest getting an internet service.
Just to be sure, I don't want anything made by Apple, but that should be obvious, posting in the Android forum.
I have found that Boost Mobile won't let me use anything but like 6 specific phones only. Two of the choices being the S7 and the S8.
I've done a search on Amazon looking for unlocked S8 phones, however the comments and reports all claim these unlocked devices are a lie and don't actually work with services they claim to, or have conflicting reports and such. I'm unable to find an Unlocked S8 for use with Boost Mobile.
I've found that I can edit the APN to add 'dun' to my type list, to bypass the data limit of Mobile Hotspot, however I am hoping that it doesn't also cause the company to start charging me hundreds of dollars a month. I want to make sure they can't actually see the traffic either, I don't want my ISP knowing what I'm doing online, because they will just turn around and sell every website I visit to third parties which is now a thing in the USA.
I'd rather Boost not know whats installed on my phone or what websites I visit.
Thread closed as per OP request.
