Any opinions? I'm on KaosFroyo right now and it is amazing but what do you guys think?
Clearly this is all opinion:
CM6. Fastest I've used (noticeably when I play games) and it's really not missing any features... I think facebook sync is working now, gps, everything really except for the camera.
It's weird I think all the camera apps don't work in Froyo. What about the overclock? All the 2.2 roms are at 710 by default right? Even if you dont have setcpu installed?
At the moment they seem to all use a kernel with 710mhz default. The camera is related to the kernel and once the froyo kernel is out we'll have camera.
Try celebfroyo 1.4
My personnel experience has been, KaosFroyo was awesome, but I had some MINOR issues such as launcher pros 3d app drawer lagging real bad, and game performance being somewhat awful. Am now on Cyanogen6 test build. 0 issues. Other than stock camera. Camera magic fixed that for me.
Whitepaint, I had the same issues with games... Zenonia was literally impossible to play lol maybe 10 FPS tops, with CM6 I'm seeing serious improvements.
thanks guys ill go try Cm6

i have tried that Rom and i didnt like it. it was way too slow and laggy for me
CelebFroyo 1.4 i have it over clocked to 806mhz and stable. Linpack 5.5 and quadrent 420. Been really stable aswell. NIKOLAI2.1 Froyo's kernal is 710mhz and yes you can use SetCPU. Mines only stable up to 806

Tried them all so far, like them all, but definitely have had the most luck with CELB 1.4. Was rocking Kaos for a bit and was pretty quick, but noticed it was slowing down a bit. Battery life was pretty good. Once I got CELB going though, I was just amazed at how quick everything is. Apps open well, smooth scrolling, and most surprising to me is that there is almost no lag when waking the phone while the profile is set 480/245 and when screen is awake it's 806/480 - both performance. Loving it so far, even though battery life doesn't seem quite as good. Small price to pay for the speed though in my opinion.

Just curing do you use surface dithering and/or JIT? CM6 had Jit disabled my default for some reason.

Yeah I enabled it, I was just curious if I should have since I've seen that JIT is a little unstable.
I have surface dithering on and JIT on with 24m cache.
edit: And JIT is unstable only with certain apps and with Froyo roms it works a million times better. JIT was made for froyo and not 2.1.

I may not have understood what you were saying, but are you saying you have your setcpu to scale for performance all the time? If so that's probably why your battery life is suffering as performance forces the CPU to stay clocked at your highest speed. Yours being 806 awake and 480 asleep. Setting it to On demand will allow the CPU to clock down when its not in use.
Yes, performance means 100% of the time it is clocked as high as possible, put it on demand. Our kernels don't support anything else like "conservative."
Are the Froyo MODs using Sense? I really don't like the idea of giving it up. Everything is too boring without it (just my opinion, don't kill me for it!).
Hi all,
Had my EVO 3D now for two days and it's a great phone, the 3D features are superb (probably a novelty but i'm enjoying them for now)
I've rooted and s-off'd my phone and the bootloader is unlocked.
I've installed a few roms, mostly sense, but pretty much everyone i have tried is quite laggy, not all the time but laggy in parts, now i was under the impression that this was pretty much the same phone (bar a few bits) as the sensation.
The sensation roms that i've had were superb, no lag (or very very little) and they worked perfect for the most part.
Is this because it's not been developed for -for very long? Or is this something which we will have to get used to?
EG: If anyones wondering what i'm on about, spin your carousel around and when it's about to re-align with the last window, it jitters slightly, the sensation on lets say insert coin never did this.
I'm running leedroid at the moment, the roms good it just stutters a bit, i've also tried king cobra, mikrunny, shooterbeats, the only one i've not tried is honeycombo.
Oh and i'm using lees kernel too at 1.5ghz max 400mhz min.
I'm not having a go at the dev's because in my eyes they're a bunch of geniuses whom we could not have our beloved androids without, my hat comes off to all of them, it's just i'm noticing a fair bit of lag through all the roms i've tried.
Any one elses input on this would be good.
Cheers.
I have used a few ROM/kernel combinations that would cause my second core (CPU1) to go completely offline. Its not supposed to be on all the time (although you can set it to be); but it is supposed to come on under heavy load. This tutorial helped me solve that problem. Maybe will help you too?

Thanks m8, I did get the app, bought it too nice app but i haven't noticed any change in terms of speed or performance and it does have that irritating lag when swiping between some screens.
I know sense isn't perfect but my DHD was smoother than this with sense 3.0 roms.
EDIT: Just checked the setting within system tuner pro (has to be pro, the free one doesn't allow the switching of the cores) , don't set it to boot, set it to init.d script instead, the second core hadn't come on active until i did this, it's probably going to rinse my battery but if it makes it smoother (which it has) then great.
Thanks man.
----------------------------------
So in short.
Buy system tuner pro.
Switch on all cores, via settings - Active tweaks - force all cpu's online - init.d
Go back and select CPU from main page.
Knock up the frequency to whats safe / needed.
Enjoy a smoother rom and a shorter battery life

I will do m8, thanks.
I've been living with the Desire HD and Sensation for some time now and the roms on both of those phones are superb, no lag whatsoever, they just work and i only realised how well when i put the two of them together and swiped the carousel, the sensation was about 10fps better off, very noticable when you compare them, i really hope the dev's get their heads together on this.

Yea i'm using Leedroid at the moment, it is the fastest rom out there for the GSM EVO3D but i think there is still room for improvement.
So it's been roughly a week since the ICS leak hit. What are your impressions?
I didn't think a tweaked GB 2.3.4 rom was too bad, at least not to the point where I constantly pined over ICS. GB was satisfactory to say the least.
ICS has been pretty impressive imo. Battery life has definitely improved and things feel a bit more peppier. Then again it could all be placebo effect. I mainly preferred a sense base rom for the camera and I'm pretty happy i can have the best of both worlds.
Overall if my level of satisfaction with the 2.3.4 roms was a 7/10 i would rate my satisfaction a 9/10 with ICS.
What do you guys think so far?
So far so good, i would rate it 9.5/10.
I am personally much happier with ICS then GB. I like the look and feel I just wish i had the same service (coverage) as GB. I now get HORRIBLE reception. Hopefully there will be an update for my completely stock Amaze.
Very stable here.

I'm having the same experience.
the only thing i really dislike about ics is the lack of apps optimized for ics (no fault of ics of course)
my reception doesn't feel changed at all.
I guess its because where i am its either 1. very strong or 2. weak to the point where there is no signal.
I am using NRG ICS, but I was on stock for a day. I really like it, and the battery is twice as good.
My favorite feature is that one can combine icons on the desktop to create "folders" with multiple programs. I keep all my browsers in the space needed by only one icon. Very cool.
I like ARHD. I'm getting fast data speeds and good reception. The battery life isn't all that great. I already reconditioned it 3 times, and did a battery stats wipe. Unplugged it at 12 am, and checked it at 6am. It was already at 86 percent. If it was my glacier, it would be at 95 or more. I also used better battery stats app, and disabled any rouge apps. Juice defender running disabling all data, and system tuner sets the governor to powersave while the screen is off.
For some reason, I can't get the radio settings to stick. It always goes back to gsm whenever I tried to set it to gsm/wcdma prl or anything else.

Yeah, I just stumbled on them in GB as well. I think it's a sense feature rather than a GB feature. I think I remember watching a video showing folders on whatever version of IOS first had them and thought that'd be cool, and one day saw I could do it on my phone. I threw all my games into a games folder.

I split my games into categories (RPG, board, etc). Very useful.
My reception has gotten slightly better, stock ICS with Apex launcher is much smoother than any GB ROM I've tried, and even though I'm not a fan of HTC Sense's overhead, I'm still pretty happy with it
I like the leak. I've been running stock rooted and debloated with apex launcher and its WAY better than 3.0. Especially with Apex.
ICS is MUCH snappier (no placebo). It has everything I liked from 3.5 with improvements in performance.

1. MUCH improved battery life.
2. Snappier response.
3. 150MB less memory usage on average. I've changed nothing about my usage habits. This probably contributes quite a bit to the snappier performance.
I'm not sure if reception is better, haven't really been paying attention. Overall I'm impressed. I like the return to the icon bar instead of that stupid giant PHONE button with two other useless things on it. I am noticing a little bit of stutter on cpu intensive apps; wonder if that's just tweaking/optimization that will be taken care of in the release.
I think my phone reception is a little bit better with the new radio, but my wifi reception has gone crazy with the new radio. Sometimes I'll have full bars sitting in one spot, and 0 wifi bars a minute later in the same spot. I do like ICS a lot more than GB though.
Perhaps those are some of the issues the T-Mobile team wants HTC to fix before the actual release.
Not sure if this is just me or everyone, but I noticed that when after flashing a rom and starting blank and fresh with no apps installed and with the HTC Sense pages at default with the preloaded widgets. At this point the whole phone is fast and very snappy and very smooth when swiping between different home screens. Even if you rotate the phone to landscape the phone rotates very fast.
BUT
As soon as I start installing my games and apps from the Play store, the whole phone just doesnt become snappy anymore. With 1GB Ram and Dual Core 1.5 GHz S4 CPU shouldnt the phone stay snappy no matter how many apps you have installed? This seems to be the case for every Sense phone.
It seems like the slow down comes when I start opening a couple apps and customizing the home screens. I tried down grading to 5 screens instead of 7 with a couple widgets such as the weather clock and I have my apps grouped into folders ect. At this point swiping between screens is a little jerky but if I keep swiping it goes back to being smooth.
My previous phones Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 didnt have this problem. I could have all 7 pages maxed out with widgets and apps filling up each page and the phone would remain snappy with no lag.
I never been a fan of the Snap Dragon CPU. I had better experience with Exynos.

EXACTLY!
Yeah, im aware that I can switch to Nova launcher ect, but if that was the case, I would have kept my Galaxy Nexus. I want to beable to use the nice fancy Sense Widgets but the phone shouldnt have to slow down like it does.
I found this to happen on each rom I been on and I tried just about each of them in the Dev section. I havnt tried %100 stock because, soon as I got the phone I rooted and used a custom rom so im not sure if pure stock has this problem.
Maybe a Dev can chime in with a solution.
I can agree to an extent..no matter what though, this phone will always be faster than a galaxy nexus. (Don't know bout jellybean). That thing stuttered like a mofo when I was testin it.
Anyways, the phone tends to slow down and speed up at will. Could be a combination of cache or resources that sense needs in order for it to run that bogs memory. (Like adding different widgets, apps, etc) Sense just isn't well made like the pure android experience imo. It needs more fluidity within the system to run smoother and this is probably why you experience lag every now and then. Overall, I'm satisfied. It doesn't slow down too much. Still feels like a superior device even with its flaws (sense UI)

Have you made sure your app/games are installed on your phone storage? I noticed a lot of app tend to use the internal storage.
Internal storage: 2Gb
Phone storage: 10Gb
I'm all stock and don't have any lag!
i noticed that too. my phone seems to be getting slower and slower. my gf's galaxy nexus with jellybean is much faster and smoother than my phone. i can't wait for cm10.
its not your phone, rom or sense. it's the play store. it happens on stock or rooted. even does it on my wife's 3D(stock unrooted). I blame it on when the play store changed over to the format it uses, now. even noticed it on her epic touch before I gave her my 3D. just my opinion I know. otherwise I have no lag.

I'm not sure what it is. All I know my Galaxy Nexus never slowed down with AOKP and CM and my Epic Touch was also always smooth. Can't say that about this phone. The camera is nice and screen is nice but can't say that about this Snap Dragon so far.
Well this damn phone flies with Nova Launcher..HTC should be ashamed of them selves for still continuing to have sense be as slow as it is.
And I'm afraid even project butter in jelly bean won't help because HTC will find a way to slow things down
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I have absolutely no speed decrease what so ever. Stock or Custom Rom. Try uninstalling aps that you don't need system or data. Try locking sense into memory threw bp. That will definitely help IMO. Also how you set your phone up will always play a major role in performance. If anyone wants to know how I run mine to compare to there setup just hit me with a pm. I have over 40 apps installed and I have no lag in anything I do. This phone is a Monster lol. I've had the hero,evo4g,evo3d, and none of them can match the performance of this phone. Just my opinion.

No rom can beat JB regarding smoothness. I tried both PAC and Cyanogen, both are great in that regard, but i think PAC is a bit better due to the presence of AOKP and a better camera.
I wouldnt recommend 4.0 custom rom, especially with Aroma installer. I'm gonna say it blunt, as i think it : all those are frankeinstein monsters built from parts badly put together, there is no graphical cohesion or harmony. Even the Sony stock roms now get elements from other phones, and overall, look really, really amateurish.

I totally disagree. While the JB may be smooth without any apps installed and some tweaking, ICS allows you to run a plethora of apps like skype and facebook without becoming a lagging monster.
The majority of custom ICS roms out there are not pretty, but OptiMax 2, JellySandwich 7.4 are raising the bar. I also have really high hopes for Iced Bean 3.
For really smooth go for ForsakenGB rom 3! Also the best experience I have had gaming wise
Between Iced bean 2.1 and Optimax 2.0 ?
still jj hybrid for me.

On the other hand, yeah, 4.0 is stable. Stable in sluggishy, but stable. Unless you have friends and many texts : then, you're screwed.

Well. I have 140 apps on my phone. 40 of them are games. I use swap and link2sd to make space. I use my rom with those apps and without swap enabled when i paly a game like subway surfers. It runs smoothly and when i hit home i have my launcehr full of widgets. Then with subway surfer in memory i launch Nfs most wanted and i play it also with minimal lag. My mum texts me on whats app that moment so i realise whats app didnt get killed by those two games. So i can say i have superb multitasking in genereal on ics not saying only in my rom but my rom improowes things... i tryed fxp145 witch is their most stable relese. It was smooth. i agree but it was smooth until i installed my 140 apps. I enabled swap(on ics i told about i didnt used swap) so i enabled it cuz it wass laggy and apps were starting very slow. So i rebooted wit swap and launched subway surfers. It was smooth. I liked this. but after 1 min playing it started laging I pressed home. and i had no launcher. It was killed(god damn it this is suposed to be cm10) I realy disliked that. anyway then i ensured subway surf is in memory cached and i launched nfs most wanted. I started playign and it was lagging a lot then told my mum to whats app me. I receved it and nfs most wanted killed itself and it returned me to home automatically and again my launcher was killd. So is jb good - yes but not for our xperias. We dont have any drivers for it. So thats why.

That would be thinking we have an endless need for apps and stuff only limited by storage. Sorry dude, but this isn't even remotely intelligent. 140 apps, not much ? I'm not even sure the uncompressible time of loading all of them can fit during a few days of a busy man.
Sorry to say guyz, but when you answer something like "4.1 can be a laggy monster", have the reflex to end up your sentence : "when i install my 140 applications, wich is not much", so that some readers can quickly detect they're just not talking about the damn same thing.
So, to me : i have 12 dowloaded applications, never saw 4.1 get laggy whatsoever. But i communicate a lot with texts, and as soon as i reach 30 of them on internal memory, all the 4.0 i've tested become increasingly sluggy, to a point where opening my contacts app takes up to 5 seconds.
