So I've been playing Zenonia 3 on my Amaze 4g and noticed a very consistent problem with the device. Whenever I quit the game and go to the task manager to quickly the phone freezes and does a reset.
It's happened 4 times already. My phone has done 5 resets in the almost 2 weeks I've used it and am not sure if I have a faulty unit (The first reset was done while it was charging apparently).
Am I doing something wrong by using the task manager so much? I just don't like to have apps or games show up on my task manager after I'm done using/playing them. Has anyone else experienced this problem or is it just me? I'm using the unrooted stock phone just like I bought it from T-Mobile. Thanks to all who read and/or comment.
Why are you going to task manager? most apps auto kill or give you the option.

Thank you so much for replying. I check the task manager usually after leaving an app since I don't like it running in the backgroung eating away memory and battery.
I usually press the leftmost key to go back to the homescreen. I usually don't find a quit key in apps or games such as Zenonia 3. The only case where I've found an app asks me to quit is when I keep pressing the back button on the Reddit Is Fun app.
Am I doing damage to the Amaze by quitting running apps on the task manager?
Where do I find this option to auto-kill the app?
Without having that app I'm not sure where it is. Gta allows me to "quit" in the app itself. Task managers are not the best way to exit an app... Lost data can occur.

Hi!
I noticed that free games like Stand O'Food 2 and Contract Killer : Zombies are running background ALL THE TIME. Even after a reboot of the phone, even after a force close with a task killer. They come back again, and again, after a few second only. So, are they some kind of spyware?
I find this very annoying, I can't stop them unless I uninstall them.
Could anybody tell me what they are doing background and how to stop them doing this without uninstalling them?
Thanks!
Tuc
Try using "autostats" from market. Disable it from auto starting.

Nice, it works like a charm! Thanks
But here is the thing: Contract Killer : Zombies is programmed to start:
- After Sartup
- Locale changed
- Date changed
- Screen on
- Shutdown
This is insane! Why a game need to start all the time for any reason, if it is not a spyware....?

You gave it permission to. If you check the permissions for it, under "system tools" it says:
System tools
automatically start at boot
Allows an application to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the device and allow the application to slow down the overall device by always running.
Quite a strange permission for an app which seems not to need it. Also, on the market you have to click "Show all" for you to be able to see that permission. Pretty strange...
Moreover, most of the Android users don't use a task manager so they don't even notice all those apps running background...
Since I use the Autostarts app to block all useless apps running background, my phone has much more available ressources and starts faster.
Everytime I get a new phone, I'll just disable everything after root. But maps.apk is the most useless ever process.

This is the first time that I am trying to run a emulator program on my Tablet (for that matter on any device), the issue that I am having is when I close out of the game it is still running in the background and no matter what I try I can't get it to close (I tried memory booster app killer which usually works to kill everything). The way I finally did it was to freeze it using titanium backup and then defrosting and it is then closed. Is there something that I am missing. I am using the N64oid262.apk emulator if that makes a difference. The games all run flawlessly, just don't know how to quit them.
Thanks for any help...

I'd recommend Button Savior to add the Back, Home and Menu buttons to your screen. That's what I do!

if you have the tgps launcher installed you can go into manage applications and go the running section and see if its there, if it isn't chances are its in the cached processes, and from there you can close it completely, tedious but its one solution...
Thanks for the suggestions. They both work. I don't use button savior anymore. I did the "n" key for home since I don't use bn. I guess I will just use the tgps launcher to kill the app when I am done.
Just an FYI: if you use GoLauncher, just go to the app drawer and running apps and you can close anything running from there.

i've tried using that and sometimes programs just start running again. an example would be the game blood and glory by glu mobile. it always runs again even after doing the close all programs thing in go launcher.
Use SNESoid and the only way I can close out of that is if I hit Menu>Quit (or Menu>more options>quit), which closes out of the emulator.
I've never used an N64 one nor do I own a tablet. However, this sounds like the emulator isn't "tablet optimized". For now, I think the task killer is your only option until the developer updates it.

That is the background service running, not the game itself. There are others such as Let's Golf 3 HD that do that.
I just went into the settings and turned off "stretch to fullscreen" or whatever it is before loading a rom for the first time and it will leave the status bar. Then as other poster suggested, just hit Menu-> Quit. Problem solved.
Hey guys,
First off i would like to thank the fuys at the forum here how to root my phone etc. Was a big help.
Now for the question:
Since the start i always went to task manager after using an app/browsing to close the app altogether.
Do you really need to do this or will pressing the home button and just minimizing the apps affect battery life?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

just dwnld a task killer app from market and install the same and set the auto kill apps frequency and ur done with
Noooooooo. Don't install a Task Killer. Android is very, very good at memory management.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/the-view-on-task-managers-for-android/
Or....
Don't use an app that automatically kills tasks. These use more juice than they claim to save (plenty of threads about same on here since I've been a member).
Unless you know a particular app doesn't close 'gracefully' & completely shutdown when you exit it (due to poor coding, etc), or if the rom you're using has some system processes that are a bit wonky; for example, some builds of some roms in the past have had issues with media service going haywire & not auto closing after it's done its thing after boot, you shouldn't need to manually close processes.
Like MistahBungle says, no need for an app killer. using the 'back' button instead of the home button closes most apps. and for apps like browser, instead of closing page after page, hit the home button, then use task manager to kill it. Or place a shortcut to "applications manager" or "running services" somewhere convenient and manually close unnecessary apps running in background.
Aight. Thanks guys.

killing an app will simply restart it some time later which consumes more power

I am using Skype often. And I want it to be always on in the background as it makes it easier for my family abroad to communicate with me. However either android itself or my wife keeps shutting it down (don't blame her she is not very experienced user).
Is there any app or simple way to keep Skype on all the time, that even if it is shut down manually by user or task manager or android itself I want it to keep restarting itself.
I used search but I found only thousands of topics were people trying to prevent apps from running all the time in background, I want this one to do that! I will be grateful for any help. I want it to keep running on HTC Flyer.
Anyone?

If an app has an icon in the notification bar (which skype does), android process manager wouldn't kill it. That's why apps like tasker and 3G watchdog has an icon in the notification bar. Therefore, your wife must be using some sort of task manager to kill background processes. The solution will depend on the task manager she is using. Some task killers allow you to "white list" certain apps.
Apps can shut down even if they put icons in the notification bar, if you are annoyed by this problem you know that.
What we need are an app that can monitor and restart selected apps if they aren't running.

There is task killer included in stock ROM but whether she is killing it or whether it's system I still need something (method or app) to restart it immediately after that happens.

This is what I want to do too, I want to keep skype on all the time, but I noticed that randomly it would be killed!!!
Are you rooted? Try uninstalling all task managers and using ES task manager with white list, and perhaps run the V6 Supercharger memory script to manage memory better, he also has a section on getting apps to run at -16 system level permissions (never be killed by system)

auto memory manager has an option to keep apps alive, but it needs root too.
+1 for auto memory manager I ise it too since my rom had this nasty habit to kill music while it was playing. So I use this little app and it works great.I even go more ram by tweaking the settings

I read your first post again - it must be android killing your skype. Cause to close skype u need to logout and i think that its hard too logout accidenatlly (its not only pushing "back" button.
And i dont think that there is an app which can restart manually closed app (maybe script and an auto script launcher??)

I tried Auto Memory.
It does give you the possibility to keep alive any process (and app), but the effect disappears eventually, like minutes after.
Keeping alive Auto Memory as well doesn't help :/
Did you apply keep alive in app process list?

I am using Lenovo VIBE k5 anf i am unable to receive notifications from hike until I open the app and keep iy in background
Trying to figure out if this is just me or what: Using Paranoid Android on my evoLTE and I'm fnding that sometimes when I'm playing audio either from Google Play Music of Doggcatcher and go to another app the audio app in question just gets killed. Sometimes its immediate, sometimes it takes a minute. Normally they should play in the background complete with a play/pause button in the notification tray but instead they die without even a force close message.
My guess is that the ROM in question is being way overly aggressive with task killing and I was wondering if this is Jelly Bean in general or the specific ROM. Is there a way to keep audio apps in memory?
Happened during a drive though this time with Google Navigation. I was at a red light and switched to my podcasting app and Navigation got killed in the background moments later. Is anyone else seeing this happen?

It's the goddamn HTC sense task manager... This is why multi tasking doesn't work well (or sometimes at all) on our phone
Oh wait just noticed your on a custom Rom. Same idea though. Best to ask the dev too.

Android will automatically kill an app when you need more resources to run another. If you switch through a bunch of apps and neglect the music app, android might kill the process. If you are using a third party music app, some have the option of keep the thread a priority and can keep android from killing it

But I'm not skipping through apps. Today I switched from Navigation to Doggcatcher and Navigation died when it should have stayed in the background and in the notification tray. I hit play in Doggcatcher, went back to Navigation, got that on a route again and then a few minutes later Doggcatcher stopped playing and was removed from the notification tray. It doesn't happen pften but it happens enough where it becomes quite annoying.
