hardware concerns - HTC Amaze 4G

i was just wondering, i had my phone for about a week now. How do you keep your speaker grill clean? since mines already getting dust in it since it sits in my linty pocket most of the time at work
i dont want it to end up like my G2 where i could barely see the Notification light because it was so dirty

my advice is to get a case and blow all the stuff out. mine is perfectly clean by doing this xD or get some air dust remover

I take a strip of tape and press it over the speaker grill and then pull it off. The lint will stick to the tape and come right off.

I'm really bugged by the imperfection of my speaker.. the fabric over the mic/speaker is stuck onto the grill. Its somewhat noticeable. Anyway to make it look like it did when I first got it?
I noticed this too. It really needs a grill, not a deep little dug out like that.
I personally plan on giving it a bit of compressed air. Be careful though, you should spray it at something neutral first and hold the can up right. I'd hate to see someone freeze their screen or blast liquid all over it (or damage the ear piece).
Design fail.
Eh.. idk about that. I've used that on my Macbook pro and it froze my keys up.. ugh. I hate it. And yea ikr. That's the only thing I miss from my iPhone.

dont blow air you can ruin the speaker if blown too hard. use tape, get some scotch tape and bend it backwards and use tweezers to put the sticky end down to go over the grill and use it like a lint roller.
Oh okay. Well its not lint im worried about. I need to lift it up.. its stuck inside the speaker. Its hard to explain. The speaker or whatever it is, is outlined.. its REALLY annoying. Would the tape thing work with that tho?

Don't use something weak like scotch tape. Get some strong duct tape and fold it so it's a sticky square figure, then just press it down in the hole (That's what she said)... Hope that works for you!
Good idea! I'll try that. Thanks. haha
Yea, duct tape is a no go. I'm done trying. This is way too frustrating. I'm about to just throw the damn phone across my room.

Dust under the screen...

Looks like I got one dot on the middle right side, tiny specks on the top right side, and a few more on the top. I also got some light leakage, but that's very, very minor compared to the dust under the screen. I'm kinda OCD about this, so I'm thinking of getting an exchange at Bestbuy..
What about you folks?
You sure its not dead pixels. Anyways, if it bothers you return it. its about customer satisfaction. So what if they look at you strange, you'll be happier and anyways, who cares about them.
Damn why can't HTC get this right! It seems every new HTC phone gets dust under the screen.
Yeah. Hopefully my new TPU case that's coming will block a lot of the incoming dust after my exchange.
I'm having some other problems as well, preferably with 3D youtube videos not playing in 3D. :/
I was thinking about getting the Otterbox Defender but I decided not to because of the size of it, But now I think I'm gonna get it because it will totally keep dust from getting under the screen.
I havent had this issue myself since the Hero, but it was most definitely annoying. It got so bad that I was tempted to just spray the phone with aerosol lol
Every HTC phone I have had has screen lifting issues. When you get a new htc phone press around the screen. If you hear any popping sounds the screen is strarting to left and will get dust under it. I use a hair dryer and get the screen really hot. Then press the screen down for 3 to 5 mins. This will help seal the screen and will keep dust out of your new phone. There can be dust under the screen from poor manaurfatioring proccess so inspect your new phone then use the hair dryer trick before it gets dust under the screen.
Yeah I got a damn spec of dust stuck inside my camera lens too... good thing its off to the side edge but yeh that urrrks!

I got the otterbox commuter case and it is wonderful. It is like silicone so it isn't slick and it doesn't add a lot of mass to the phone. It will still go in your pocket easily.
Mine had dust too. Exchanged it as soon as I noticed it.

I literally just watched a piece of dust get stuck under the screen when I was wiping it off. It wasn't there, then a moment later it was. This is in addition to 3-4 other specs I just noticed today. I think I may go into the Sprint store this weekend and exchange it. Has anyone had any trouble exchanging it for dust issues?
I just noticed 2 specs of dust near the charging port, very annoying. I had this issue with the Hero as well...got about 3 replacements, and they all eventually got dust under them.
Anyone have an issue exchanging their phone with this issue? I got mine at Best Buy, so they better take it back.
I got mine at Best Buy as well. Just make some stuff up like the buttons feels loose and the battery will drain randomly at times.
Why, is dust under the screen not a valid reason to return it? It shouldn't happen.
You guys should put a piece of tape over the headset jack when not in use. Most dust comes in through that jack.

I think the dust is coming in from the sides of the screen because its not sealed good
For those of you that have dust, did you exchange it for a new phone?

Why the eff should somebody have to do this to any phone let alone a brand new phone? If you have to do that then its not built right.
True, but it works.
Lol, I am not putting tape on my headset jack.
It looks like mine came in through the charger port

[Q] [VIEW] Bottom plastic piece badly fitted?

So I just got a View, and for the most part it seems to be a well-crafted device. But, when I press on the front side of the plastic piece on the bottom (right above the charging port), it makes like a cracking noise, like the plastic doesn't fit right. Does anyone else have this? I'm trying to decide whether it's major enough to try to send in for warranty/RMA, especially since I took the OTA to HC and now want to HTC unlock to flash back and do S-Off for some rom action, which I think would void the warranty :-/
Mine is very solid, no cracking at all.
just got mine today and it does have that cracking noise ..
Hmm okay....well so far is 50/50 lol so maybe its common. I noticed that the plastic piece on the bottom can be slid forward and lifted off the charge port, and the noise seems to be coming from the gap between the screen border and the plastic piece over the charge port. So, maybe I'll try putting something in the gap to see if it stops. I feel stupid doing a warranty claim for something so trivial.
no cracking here, but i got something i do not like.
the screen is not fitted correctly on the lower side of the device.
It is not in line with the rest of the metal part, in fact is aprox 1 mm above it.
If you look at it you may not see it but if you swype your finger you can feel the edge of the glass.
But otherwise it is well built device.
I do not think i am going to try to replace it(or maybe i will).
That's ok. I almost ripped my bottom off looking for the sd card slot.

Lol my View has that too! Click click click
Also afflicted with the click. Kind of annoying bit of cheapness/shodiness on an otherwise very solid device. Wondering if a silicone cover would help mask it...
I have something similar but it was on the top camera cover. Where it wraps around directly under the power button it didnt seal right, and there was a gap that irritated me. After trying to fix it with no luck I ended up sending it back to amazon and bought another. New one perfect.
After a pint or two at the pub, the lighted buttons wiggle and wave at me. Should I return the unit, or stop drinking so much?

Anybody have a loud buzz when phone vibrates?

I have had this phone for a couple of months. I bought it from someone who upgraded and sold me the phone the next day so I have no warranty.
When vibration intensity is maxed the phone makes a loud buzzing and crackling sound like loose plastic.
I thought my vibration motor broke so I replaced it and it improved, but it still does it.I turned it down but I am trying to sell the phone and I can't in good conscience sell the phone if it buzzes when the vibration is maxed.
Should I get another motor? Does anyone else have this issue!
I had this issue and it bugged the crap out of me. Take the back off, all the screws and pop the plastic housing off. You'll see the motor om the top left. I just pressed down on it firmly to get stick it back to the tape. Put phone back together and you're good!

I have done this 3 times today. Dismantled, removed mobo, pressed it as hard as I could w/o damaging it and screwed everything back in really tight. My OEM vibrator (?lol) would rattle the thing even at the lowest volume. I dismantled it and pressed down with that one too and again, it rattled hard. I am running out of ideas. Could I really get two bad motors? It doesn't really make noise until it is all put back together, then it starts.

You might want to check your back cover then. maybe it's not snapped in all the way. You probably would be safe by putting a little tiny piece of foam on the motor with some adhesive. get some 3M double sided tape the 5mm kind. I would think this would be OK...

WARNING!! Be Careful Carrying This Thing In Your Pocket

Just thought I would throw out a little warning about our awesome phone. Ne very weary about keeping these in your pockets. I noticed a couple weeks ago mine had flexed a little and would no longer lay flat. Not a big deal, so I just went on with my life.....Fast forward to Monday, I put my phone in my pocket to go to work only my screen didn't make it. It was shattered when I got to work.....
I did not bump the phone in my pocket or anything. I babied that thing and the screen still shattered. So.....heed this warning....be very careful!! If you notice it is starting to flex when you lay it flat and it wobbles, be very careful with it!! Luckily I have a protection plan on the phone so I will only be out 50 bucks, but this is the second time I have had to send it in since December which leaves the question, are these phones durable enough for heavy every day use????

I'm curious as how this happenes...
I've REALLY bent mine when trying to get it out of a case, it bent but did not make creaky sound, also I keep it in my jacket left pocket and occasionally when sitting I hear it hit the chair etc etc, makes me wonder if these situations happen because MAYBE of some random manufacturing faults?
did the touchscreen work after it shattered?

If you want to be completely precise. The digitizer and the glass on top of that broke. The actual display did not break. I have dropped that phone 4 feet onto concrete, dropped it onto a tile floor, banged it around in my pocket like you mention above and it didn't even scratch it.
I have heard of other phones having similar issues and I thought people were just being dumb, lol.

Both, lol, the phone seemed tough with the spills that it had taken only to break in my pocket.
Let me guess, you are talking about keeping it in PANTS pockets, not a shirt or jacket pocket.
I've never had an issue with keeping a phone in my shirt pockets. There is no stress on it. My daughter has ruined several phones keeping them in pants pockets.

heared this often on the ZU. The problem is that you need a chase bevore you put it in your pocket, because this device is so thin, that you easily could break it in 2 peaces.
FOR EVERYONE: THIS DEVICE NEEDS A STABLE CASE TO BE CARRIED IN PANTS!!!

hehe yeah i get what you mean, it holds up to being bumped & dropped on concrete, but breaks in the relative safety of a pocket.
However, it was possibly weakened over time from the other spills and drops, and in addition to the added stresses on it (as mentioned above) from being put in your pants pocket, it just gave up?
Yes it's probably best to put on a case while carrying this in your pants pocket (i have the incipio dual pro shine) BUT
For the first few months of having this phone, i always put it in my front pocket with no case and no screen protector, i was a bit careful though. But still my phone hasn't cracked (thankfully) or bent (also thankfully)
Maybe I just got really luck who knows!
It had the incipio dual pro case on it the entire time I owned it. Lol.

thanks for the warning, i'm definitely nervous about this phone
I really loves to use my ZU naked but i afraid that 2 possible things would happen to my ZU:
1)Is in my tight pant's pocket and im working in a workshop. So i might it on some metal when im walking.
2)I tend to drop the phone once a while. Everytime i dropped it,1st things in my mind was "Shot, pls dont crack my lcd/glass"
So i decided to add more protection with metal bumper.
But whenever i remove the cover,it tends to scratch my SP. So i bought 10pcs of cheap SP n will change it whenever i want...

extra strength
i bought the glass-m front and back hardened glass screen protectors for this thing, and they stiffened it right up, plus i have the terrapin folio on it, i also have the incipio dual pro, both cases seem quite snug with all the extra glass, phone is really sturdy! glass-m was around $31
