Proxydroid crashing with CM9 Alpha0? - TouchPad General

Thanks to all involved with CM9 touchpad ROM. For most part, ROM is working great. However, I see an issue with Proxydroid app. My CM9 crashes as soon as I start Proxydroid app. It used to work fine with CM7 and XRON. Has anyone else seeing similar issues? Is there a known fix for this issue?

I have the same issue. As soon as I try to connect with ProxyDroid, it restarts the device...
on CM9 alpha0 for TP

I fixed my issue, with a clean wipe of the Touchpad. Then, i reinstalled everything and proxydroid works fine now.

I am having the same issue. IS there another fix other than wiping and re-installing?

Proxy Droid was a hit or miss for me. I ended up having to wipe and even then I could not restart the touchpad while it was on a proxy network.
That being said is there any reason you cannot use the built-in proxy settings of ICS? They work well for basic settings. No proxy pack support but using the direct address works wonders.

That works great for http, but not for apps on many corporate networks.

[Q] tethering issues LTBv2.3 + MR2.5

Having tethering issues.
Thunderbolt loaded with:
LTB v2.3 (from link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160637)
MR2.5 (from link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154010)
I tried out connecting to a wireless network with my phone and am able with no issue. Appears all the features on the phone are working just fine.
I'm able to start the (default install with LTB v2.3) Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on the TB and find it on my laptop, but not connect open or WPA2.
I've tried using Barnacle Wifi Tether (installed through market) with the same effect. Everything in the log is positive except for "Could not connect to NAT, will retry later", then continues to run; beacons the ad-hoc network.
There was another wifi tethering application I tried, but can't remember the name; had same effect as the other two options.
Any direction would be appreciated, thanks.
Try wireless tether for root users, it has worked great for me. It isn't on the market you have to Google it.

Thanks for the reply; found it and installed. v2.0.7 worked, none of the v3.1 would work. Had similar behavior as the other two. This actually was the one I tried which I forgot the name of. I ran across a couple other v2.0.x with the same effect.
Thanks

No problem. 2.07 is what I use. The apk just stays on the SD card and I install it whenever I flash a rom

Which wireless wifi tether/hotspot app do you use?

I've only had success with using my phone as a wifi hotspot with the Miks Rom, every other rom that I use, I've tried Barnacle, Wireless Thether for Root users and just about every other app available on the market but nothing works.
Which rom are you guys using and what wifi hotspot app works? Thanks!

Go here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Use the first one on the list, beta 5. Beta 4 works too. I've had success with beta 4 on all roms I've used. Good luck.

Awesome, got it to work on the first try with the Supra Rom.

Good deal! Forgot to mention that usually you need to check off 'routing fix' and 'mms clamping' in the settings of the wireless tether app. Not sure if you already got that or not, but if you run into any issues, keep that in mind.
For me those apk's only work on 4G, never on 3G. Any idea what am I doing wrong?
(Yes I've tried checking and unchecking the Routing Fix and MMS Clamping (whatever that is) 100 times. And I've tried using "automatic" device selection vs. selecting the EVO 3D. And tried using DNS servers other than the default ones. Always the same result, no tethering with 3G.)

I just got home from NYC and on the bus I was tethering via 3G the whole time.
The routing fix: on
MSS Clamping: on
Device profile: HTC Evo 3D
WiFi Tether version 3.1 b5
I even had WPA2 encryption on so others couldn't steal my bw...
Worked fine the whole ride, even when it would drop to 1x due to coverage areas.
Hmmm... didn't work for me, I'm using the same version of WiFi Tether, I've tried that group of settings many times and tried them again just now. Same issue: 4G joy, 3G no joy.
Soooo... I gave WiFi Tether some tough love... While I've uninstalled and re-installed it many times with no joy, this time I cleared data (via Menu / Settings / Applications / Manage applications / WiFi Tether / Clear data) BEFORE uninstalling WiFi Tether. Then after re-installing, now it's working on 3G or 4G... I can switch 4G on and off multiple times and it all works. I'm not terribly optimistic that it will continue to work on 3G, but at least I know one way that it DID work and hopefully I could get it to work again if it fails... thanks for the help.
Any clue as to a bluetooth tether?
I understand that WiFi is faster but Bluetooth is cheaper on battery life.

[Q] CM7 Thunderbolt Tethering not working

Hello XDA Developers,
I have an HTC thunderbolt, I'm running Cm7.1, the newest release that came out yesterday. My issue is that wifi or USB tethering do not work. Whether I connect usb tethering and enable the feature from the phone, or enable wifi tethering and connect through my laptop, the network connects, but then says no internet access and/or limited or no connectivity. My laptop connects to wifi internet fine.
I've had this problem for every iteration of CM7 for thunderbolt since June. Before moving to CM7, i remember trying tethering once or twice and it did not work. I've just decided now to try and get tethering working.
I've tried using the wi-fi tether app from code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list as well as barnacle wifi tether, both have the same problem.
My main questions would be:
1. Is there any reason I have overlooked as to why tethering does not work on my phone? Is there some new verizon block to tethering for root users? Are there any settings I could try to get this working?
2. Are there any known issues with CM7 and thunderbolt tethering?
3. It seems weird if it was a hardware issue since my laptop does actually connect to the phone, it just has no network connectivity.
Thanks!
I had a similar issue and fixed it by downloading the open garden wifi tethering app https://market.android.com/details?id=og.android.tether and changing the network to open on that app as well as the built in cm7 app. Then enable both apps and it should connect. Did for me.

Newest release came out about 20 minutes prior to your post CM7.1.1...check the rootz thread.
I've seen reports of this before. If memory recalls correctly, the devices weren't acquiring an IP correctly. Once you have it tethered, on the laptop/device try releasing and renewing your IP or disabling/enabling the adapter.
You are not the only person having this problem. I'm having this problem too and have not found a fix for it yet. I've found a pattern though, any ROM that I've loaded that was a build or based off of CM7, had the tethering problem. And as stated above, the problem about not acquiring and ip correctly is exactly what's happening.
Hopefully a dev or someone else can come along help resolve this problem. Apparently this problem is not very widespread as it seems that very few peeple have this problem.
Thank you everyone for your help.
keith.mcintyre26, I tried your suggestion of open garden wifi app, and it worked perfectly, just installed it and it worked. CM7 wifi tether still does not work though.

I tried the app as well and It didn't work I am in a tricky area when it comes to data coverage though so I can't help but think that might be it? Unrelated: Sometimes I lose data coverage altogether (drops out, comes back, drops out, etc) when I'm in 4G coverage areas. Maybe the two are related,

I know this is not the problem where I live as I'm in full signal.
I just got onto this ROM, after being on BAMF Forever, forever, and LOVE IT. My only complaint and possibly a show-stopper -- Wi-Fi Tether doesn't work, and neither does the built-in tether app.
I've done a complete wipe. The client connects, but doesn't DHCP.
Any ideas?

Quick update -- Open Garden works...
Strange... But I guess I'm all set
I had/have the same problem with cm7 and bamf1.86. I finally got cm7 tether last night using barnacle, but it was at .3 mbs. I have yet to top 1mbs. That was with 4g(or so it said.) I have tried the included wifi tether, usb tether, barnacle, and open garden. Nothing works properly on either rom. Signal was between -80 and at worst -90.

Seems to be a common issue across newer roms lately for wifi tether.
I got mine fixed by downloading the newest experimental build.
Once installed go into settings, Check Disable wake lock, check wifi driver reload, also check routing fix. Furthermore, make sure you select the proper device, should be the first option once you open settings.

[Q] 2 apps don't work, 1 does, why?

hi,
I'm on android 4.0.4 aokp with syriah kernel. my google play and gmail don't sync. it constantly times out. I tried doing a full wipe and installing a different rom, they worked, but only for a few hours, then the same thing happened again. so I'm back to aokp.
facebook works fine, the web browing works fine. but downloading files from the web doesn't download, times out. also gmail syncing doesn't sync and google play app store doesn't sync.
some things work, some don't. doing a fresh rom install the apps work fine for like a few hours, then all of a sudden some work some don't. using 3G data only. no wifi. wifi does load everything properly though, it's the 3G data it doesn't like.
all this wasn't happening when I had stock firmware running only.
any ideas?
thanks
Check your APN settings and check if you are routed through a Proxy.
If so, write it down and try if it works without.
Also make sure the APN settings match the ones made public by your provider.
there were a few options to choose from
mobile
mobile (open)
internet
SMS
MMS
is mobile open like internet without a firewall? I chose it because it had no proxy ip. regardless, this worked. cheers mate. what's your paypal email to transfer funds for saying thanks :>
Mate, theres a "Thanks" button, most if not all members here aren't in it for monetary gain... Just thanks are enough, and the hope you'll help out others if they post with the same problem... :highfive:

[BUG] Android 4.3 not handling proxy correctly

Curious if anyone else has experienced this issue? Since upgrading to android 4.3 roms, I have not been able to use my home proxy correctly. Connections to my proxy have been successful, in that, android still reports internet connection, however when using apps (that are blocked on my work wifi) are showing no connection. 4.2.2 roms all work fine.
The app I'm using is ProxyDroid however I also tried setting the proxy in native settings with the same result. Is there a change in the implementation of proxy services since 4.2 roms? Thanks in advance.
Maybe it will work with Drony or SandroProxy

Drony, is the wrong kind of proxy (server not client). SandroProxy isn't working either though (I mean in 4.3), however its very difficult to use; It's possible I screwed up setting it up (still was showing 'listening 127.0.0.1').
Drony is subset of SandroProxy so it acts the same way. You probably need just Drony.

Interesting implementation. Perhaps I will try it again. I'm curious is there a widget for quickly connecting/disconnecting from proxy's? Unfortunately running through my house its not a very fast connection (one of the biggest reasons I went with ProxyDroid, there is a quick connect/disconnect).
Drony will go on if active wifi has proxy set on localhost 8020.
It goes off if wifi goes down.
What can you miss with Drony is that not all apps will work.
For example WhatsApp do not respect androiod os proxy settings.
To have all working you need rooted phone and SandroProxy.
It install his own local copy of iptables to redirect all traffic.
But has more features and it is harder to set up as you find out .
It is more a developer tool than a plain proxy.
There is some wizard to help you out.
And acts the same way as Drony listening if active wifi has proxy set that points to it.
