bought Venue in ebay, rooted? - Dell Venue

Guys, i bought a phone in ebay...
Dell Venue 2.2.2 android version.
kernel 2.6.32.9-perf
build 15696
baseband version GTOUB1A132131-US
i found in it, an icon called SUPERUSER, i have to say this is my first android, so i dont know anything about this OS phone, i had a Venue Pro in past...
As i have read, SuperUser means phone is already rooted, right?
I have locked it to ATT, when i go to System Updates, browser say no updates and ATT logo appears...
My question is, if it's already rooted, which i suppose, it have no apps, but there is no software to unlock it ans use any GSM chip? something like ultrasnow in the iphones...?
Im planing to use it in mexico, so i suppose baseband also will need to be "flashed" or whatever...
Please help!
Thanks

Locked and Rooted
If you have superuser, then the phone should be rooted already. As for carrier unlocking, there is not that I know of a way via software to unlock the phone. The best bet would be to insert a sim from another company and verify if it is still locked, then if it is have whoever sold you the phone call AT&T and get it unlocked for you. After sim unlocking, you can use a mexican sim without any trouble or requiring baseband changes.

yes, i inserted another SIM, it's locked, i contacted DELL via [email protected], they said this phone is retail, so they would not provide code, at store, they said Dell would provide, they are playing with the ball....

omg, how difficult is to setup an email account in android... pff took me 30 min, in all way because yahoo need PLUS to allow pop and forwarding, my venue pro didnt have that problem at config (and never got a plus at yahoo).. so i downloaded yahoo app from android marketplace and i had access to my email... i think i start to hate this venue, lol

email
I have 5 email accounts coming into my Venue, though none are Yahoo. It wasn't any more difficult to set up than MS Outlook was.

Rooting is made up of 2 parts:
The superuser app
the SU binary.
The app can be downloaded from the market on any device, rooted or not. It merely doesnt do anything on an unrooted device.
The SU binary is what does the work, that you need to either flash with custom recovery or use an exploit (such as gingerbreak) to install. Though pretty much all exploits are fixed in 321+

No unlock code from DELL or Carrier...
Ok, guys
After several frustrating calls, emails and so... neither Dell or Carrier from the phone were able to give me an unlock code... they only kick the ball from side, i contacted the Dell unlock Team, and they said:
Dear Customer,
Please contact the carrier for more assistance on this issue. We would not be able to release the unlock code as the device is in contract with the carrier.
Mobility Unlock Code Team
I paid to 1 guy in ebay to obtain the code, but, he refunded, he couldnt find a code for my device... obviously the phone was sold to me as it is... seller didnt specified it still was in contract, so... i want to ask if you know a good and serious source to try to get codes and unlock this device...
Any help will be very appreciated...

S3 relocked?

I have a factory locked S3, but my provider gives out the unlocking code for free. I put in a sim from another provider, got asked for the code, entered it and it worked.
I then rooted the phone.
However, after a few days I wanted to remove root and reflashed stock firmware with Odin. I searched out the proper file here at xda and flashed it. I then got an error about messaging stopped everytime I booted and searched some more. The solution was to flash with Odin again, but check upgrade bootloader. After that the phone works fine and everything is in place like it was new.
But, my phone has been locked again and my code does not work anymore. I have called my provider (leaving out the root and flashingpart) and they say that if the unlock is not working I must send it to them so they can unlock it.
So I have these questions:
1. Having done what I have done, will TriangleAway + reflashing stock with Odin remove every trace of my "tampering"?
2. What can they do to the phone that I cannot do myself with som advice from xda?
3. How many attempts are there of entering the unlock code? It still asks for a code. I do not get any message about too many tries. But I have must have punched the code more than three times...
I have read that people get their IMEI changed when reflashing, but mine is still original. I can not understand why the operator lock has come back.
Please help!
1) I believe so yes (not sure, I'm new to this forum just what I've read)
2) They can block the IMEI if the phone was lost/stolen
3) I am not sure with Samsung/Android phones but when I was unlocking my mums Nokia C3 it only allowed me to enter a code three times before displaying an error message.
It is not stolen or lost. I have bought it from my operator myself. I talked to them today and there is no block on this phone. It does work with my operators sim, but no other sims.
My question was that they can do to unlock ut that I cannot do myself?

Everything, they are your carrier.
None of us can generate unlock codes for the phone, they can get the unlock codes and make sure it's 100% unlocked

What about the Voodoo sim unlock app ? You'll need root access though. the app has also been removed from the Play Store
The dev's site, you can download and sideload the app from here:

That's not an unlock code though it's just temporary. A factory unlock is permanent (or so it should be)

I spoke to my carrier and they said that there was only one valid code for my IMEI, and that does not work anymore. It did work once, but after reflashing the firmware with Odin, the lock came back and now the code does not work.
Perhaps they just replace the phone with a swap unit? Therefore I ask again, will TriangleAway and reflashing stock remove all traces of rooting/tampering? If not I will get the phone back and be forced to pay for the service as well.
+1 for this problem.
I unlocked mine with the voodoo unlocker and was fine for a couple of months. Flashed a newer version of cm10 and was asked to enter Sim unlock code. This time I got the pin from my carrier but with that number it says Sim unlock unsuccessful.
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know of a solution?
At the moment I just have a fancy mp3 player/camera :silly:
Voodoo sim doesn't work properly with then latest firmwarea but theres a new app 'Galaxsim-unlock' that I can recommend. Your'llshare find it over in the themes and apps section

You can try to use Valhalla ( Voodoo has disappeared from the Play Store ) :
http://donmacsblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012_06_01_archive.html?m=1
I've managed to get mine back to unlocked.
I was on cm10 and then when flashing a newer version the lock came back. I was originally using voodoo sim unlock but that wouldnt work this time so rang my carrier and got an official code which would not work either.
Flashed back to stock using odin making sure to use the network branded ROM i was originally on and not just a stock ROM, then enter the code the carrier gave me and this time it worked!
Guessing you must be running a stock carrier branded ROM for the code to register properly and unlock.
Hope this works for anyone else!

A couple of questions

Hello, I just recently got an Atrix off of ebay. I want to get into playing witih android phones. I've already read numerous threads, got the android sdk, rsd lite, etc.. I've been reading about flashing, and to be careful of what you flash based on what firmware versions are already on the phone.
The problem I have is the phone is subsidy locked, but it's locked in a way that not even AT&T sims work. It always asks for the pin, and the code AT&T gave me (they stated it was the subsidy unlock code) fails. So I looked at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356121
However, I have no idea what's on this phone. I can't access any settings menu in the phone, as it sticks to the "Emergency Calls Only" screen. i don't know what firmware is on the phone, what radio is on it, etc.. I don't want to try to flash a radio file and have it brick my phone. I've read quite a bit this past hour, but I'm at a crossroads here and don't know what to do to figure out what is exactly on this phone. If I knew what I had exactly, I'd be a lot more confident in flashing things.
I do know the bootloader is unlocked (the phone boots saying "Unlocked"). That's all I know :\
EDIT: Disregard. It took me another 6 hours but I finally got everything figured out (had to boot it with no sim to view things, then from there I got into it all). Rooted, CWM, flashed the bell radio and my sim works for now. Thanks for the valuable info that's listed here!
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks!
hey,
I do have the atrix which is netwoek subsidy locked.
I even cant use at&t. I am outside us currently.
Could you tell me how did you flashed bell radio & where u got that.
Thanks

[Q] sim network unlock pin

Hello everyone, this is my first post here and I am in need of desperate help.
I have looked everywhere I could but (my bad) I am not into all this stuff at all. I am not familiar with ROMs Kernels etc. I just follow tutorials blindly.
I have a galaxy s2 bought which I bought in the UK. It was locked on 3 network. Later I moved to another country where I got it unlocked for about $35 but that still showed signs of 3 network (The 3 startup logo, 3 bookmarks in web browser etc), however the phone was unlocked now and picked up any network I used.
I noticed the phone stopped giving me any kind of updates and it was on andriod 2.0.1.
I looked up the internet on how to install latest updates for my phone.
Found out this guide and went thorough all the process: goo.gl/yJSga8
Everything went fine but when the phone booted up, it asked me to enter "sim network unlock pin" and now all networks are inaccessible.
I am pretty much stuck at this point. Found guides telling to root the phone and then installing apps like Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock by Chainfire.
I have tried it once and was near to kill my phone. (The yellow triangle appeared at startup and got stuck there. No boot.) I just re-flashed the firmware by following the first guide again and now the phone is like before asking for sim network unlock pin.
I have attached the screenshot of the info that you might need.
I am willing to pay $15 via PayPal if anyone can help me out to fix this issue. (I am a bit hesitant using the rooting method as I an afraid I might kill my phone. But if that's the only choice then I will go with it)
Please ignore if I sound really stupid as I really don't know about this stuff. Please ask me any details that I may have missed out.
Thank you very much!
Attached Info Screenshot
If you don't want to root, then you'll have to call your carrier and ask for an unlock code. Mine has that service at least, don't know about all carriers.
As far as solving your problem goes if your carrier won't help out... The thing that works for a lot of members here is to root, then use galaxsim unlock app, by xda member spocky12. Search for the thread.
That app requires root access... To do that, easy way is to flash philz kernel from recovery mode. Search up philz kernel thread here on xda and read up how to flash it
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
Hello hopper, thanks for the response.
I took your first suggestion but instead of calling the company itself I used an online service unlockliberty.com.
They charged me $20 via PayPal and almost instantly sent a code to my email address.
I entered the code on the phone but it gave me "Network unlock request unsuccessful" error.
Contacted support and they sent me a defreeze code and instructed me to restart, enter the defreeze code instead of the unlock code and then it will say "Network unlock request unsuccessful" and after that enter the unlock code. I did the steps and it worked like a charm! my phone is now unlocked.
I really recommend their services if you are in a similar situation.
Thanks alot!

Is there a way to unlock the Galaxy Light to use on another Carrier manualy?

I bought a sgh-t399n at a garage sale recently and quickly rooted the phone and installed TWRP Recovery and CM12 on it. I called Metro and T-Mobile ( After flashing their firmware) for the unlock code but of course they refused to give it to me. So i tried 2 or 3 different unlock by IMEI websites as well as every single unlock app and software I could find while running logcat. The best lead I've gotten was the S.G.S. Unlock Tool app. It says it found the code but the results are null. In the logcat the system denies permission saying that the app was sending request as -2 when it was 0 and that it needed "android.permission.INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL" to accsess the info. Now I'm not a Dev by any definition of the term, nor am I any kind of hacker but I have learned a good bit from these forums over the last couple of years and my gut tells me this can be done with a little patients and some help from the good folks at XDA. Any imput on the subject is greatly appreciated.
You won't be able to unlock on CM12, have to have the stock firmware and OS installed.
yeah install stock system and any code should work without issue
If you unlock on stock system and then flash cyanogen, will it be fine?

The unlock code must be hidden on one of the partitions of the device it's self though right? Possibly in the EFS partion? Also how would i change thepermissions of an app to allow in to interact acroo all users?
Whether or not the code is in EFS, you still can't unlock on CM.
No I understand that. It is currently on the T-Mobile stock T399 firmware flashed with odin but still could not get an unlock code . Also i would like to learn to unlock these phones for future devices.
So it is not requesting an unlock code when you have a non T-Mobile SIM card installed? How odd... It should. If not, either it's already unlocked, or something else is going on. Have you tried both the Metro and Tmo firmware? Only the newest T-Mobile and Metro phones are not supported by unlocking via code as they use the Unlock app. As far as unlocking yourself, your best bet would be to get an unlock box like z3x or Octopus if you plan on doing a lot of them. If it's just 1 every year or 2, then it wouldn't make sense. Some phones have ways to unlock via root and hacks, but not all and it is becoming less common now as more manufacturers are making the ways to unlock more difficult either via encryption or other means.
The unlock companies I tried were unable to get a code by imei. Therefore I was never able to put in a real code. I've looked in to the z3x but it is way outta my price range as I am only a novice tinker. I just figured since the code must be in the programing of the phone somewhere then it was just a matter of locating the partition and file in which it was hidden and then decoding it. Is it possible to change an apps or users permissions? If so how?

I believe the app Root explorer allows you to change permissions on items.
It does, but nothing Root Explorer can do will help you find an unlock code, unfortunately. If the phone does not ask for a code when inserting another carrier's SIM, then that's the issue that would need to be resolved before anything else.
Sorry if I've been unclear. The phone dose ask for a code when a sim from a different carrier is put in but after trying 3 unlock by IMEI companies none of them were able to generate a code by IMEI. As for the permissions issue, I have an app that claims to find the codes but only says "null" in the results column. After going through the log cat it says the app is running as user 0 but is requesting info as user -2 and that it needs the permission " INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL" to show the info. So i was hoping to learn how i grant said app that permission and see if it would show the code?

can you paste a link to the stock system?
Could anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me a working unlock code for my metro pcs phone email me [email protected] or [email protected] thank you.
Running into the same problem only im on a non rooted system. I need a solution to get the codes needed to unlock it from T-mobile and need them without running hardware as all i have is hardware from the old days. Software would be a choice if anyone knows of anything reliable. Services I am also willing to pay for if cheap and working.

What changes on phone when SIM unlocked ?

Hi Forum. May be my first post. I just SIM unlocked LG V10 on T-Mobile. Here is what I can say about the process that might be helpful to others:
1-Phones can be SIM locked by manufacturers so that service providers ensure that phones can only be used on their network or certain countries. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock for more information.
2-The process of unlocking requires the service provider to request unlock codes from the manufacturer. The service provider may have requirements to unlock ( e.g. in my case I had to put $100 balance on T-Mobile prepaid card ). This process took 5 working days at which time T-Mobile emailed me to inform me that they were ready for me to initiate unlock on my device.
3-On my device, I ran a "Device Unlock" app which connected with somebody ( T-Mobile ? ) and verified my phone was actually unlock eligible and viola. I'm SIM unlocked.
What I would like to know is what has changed on my phone ( e.g. firmware, some information on some partition ) ? Does this mean I can now root, change ROMs and my phone will remain SIM unlocked ? Any links to information about what actually happens when device unlocked would be appreciated.
slomo2
What I can tell you is that, if you did unlock permanent it is going to be unlocked even after rooting and installing new roms etc.
Now, I want to ask in this forum if the phone can be unlocked if the t-mobile unlock app says it is not eligible to unlock. I bought my phone on eBay, called t-mobile the phone is clean, but they could not unlock it for me because needs an account... So now I'm stuck trying to find a 3rd party unlock website to do it, 2 already said they could not... So I have the phone but can't use it. Any suggestions?
Yes, I can confirm that on this LG V10 having performed a SIM unlock and then having switched ROMs the unlock remained in effect.
