Flash GB, How do I get out of being stuck at logo? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have T959 Vibrant. I just tried through ODIN to go back to Stock. In ODIN I put in s1_odin_20100512.pit. I wanted to put Gingerbread on so I put in PDA: Vibrant_GB_Mod.tar.md5
It went through and finished and rebooted my phone, and then it came to the opening screen after reboot which is a Green Android Logo. But it won't go past that. I tried rebooting: does the same thing. Tried Vol-Down + Pwr button after pulling battery: it does the same thing (just keeps going off and on, off and on, logo, no logo, logo, no logo). I even tried Vol-Up+Vol-Down+pwr after pulling battery: same thing happens.
What do I do? Please help a Noob out!

You put GingerBread Bootloaders on your phone and not a GB ROM. You are lucky, I'll say that.
Go here and download the AIO Toolbox. It has all the drivers, pit/tar files for stock and Odin v1.83. Install it (and the .net program too).
Now open the Toolbox/Odin and make sure it is open.
Pull the battery on your phone. Put it back in and Hold the Volume-Up + pwr button. Once the Green Android comes up, release the power button but keep ahold of the Volume-Up. Your phone will boot into Download mode.
Plug it into your computer.**even if it doesn't show DL mode on the phone, you want to see the Yellow COM box in Odin. Once you see that, flash the CORRECT pit/tar files that come with the Toolbox and you should be good to go.
Scary yes but make sure you know what you are flashing first. Also I have never flashed a ROM in Odin, I feel it is better to do that in CWR. Once you do get to 2.1, please don't post something like "Clockwork is no longer available in the market. What do I do?"-See my signature for that answer.

Stuck at Vibrant Boot Screen

Hello everyone. I have a question about the current state of my Vibrant. Coming from a G1, I just upgraded to the Vibrant and have been loving since. I rooted my device, installed Clockwork Recovery, and flashed a new Rom. I decided to switch back to the stock rom but now when I turn on my Vibrant, it just sits at the Vibrant Samsung boot screen... Here are the steps I did up until this point:
1. Starting from the Stock T-Mobile rom, I applied Root update zip but booting into Recovery Mode (Holding down the volume Up/Down buttons and then pressing the Power button).
2. Installed Clockwork Recovery, and then did a Nandroid Backup.
3. Using Clockwork, I installed Eugene's Vibrant7 rom (I left create ROM Backup and Wipe Data options checked)
4. Vibrant7 rom flashed successfully but decided to switch back. So I used Clockwork to boot into manual recovery mode, selected Nandroid and then Restore
After it finished the Restore, it now sits at the Vibrant Samsung boot screen everytime I power it up... I'm thinking I should have not have used the Nandroid Restore to revert back to the stock ROM (unless I'm totally mistaken, I never used Clockwork Recovery before and have flash roms before with my G1).
At this point, could I just reflash back to the stock firmwire using ODIN (Directions from this thread [ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working) in the Vibrant/Android Development section). Would that take care of my problem or is my phone currently 'bricked' or SOL?
Thanks in advance for any help or clarification
yeah just odin back to stock... Read the directions carefully
this exact same thing is happening to me. I have tried to follow the instructions to odin. but when I hold volume down and power it just keeps rebooting to the vibrant page. but if I hold volume up and down and power I can get into recovery but non of the options fix my problem. Am I screwed or am I doing something wrong.
i'm having the same problem...stuck on boot screen
i'm on the bell network, are there instructions on how to use odin to fix my phone?
Try this,
1. Take out simcard ms and battery
2. Make sure you have the right drivers for your os
3. Open odin
4. Put your battery back in
5. Hold both volume up and volume down, using two fingers,
just to make sure your not missing a button.
6. Slowly... SLOWLY... put the usb into your phone while doing step 4
7. Continue to hold,
8. Should be in dl mode
If your not take out the battery and repeat 4-7. If odin doesn't recognize your phone, try unplugging the usb wire and reconnecting it.
flashed a sgh t959 with a galaxy s i9ooo kernel oops
hi im stuck in manual mode and when i try to boot the screen shows two different galaxys s screens then goes back to manual mode and i cant get into down load mode it just goes back two manual mode was trying to root used wrong file i think im screwed i flash with oden and used i9000xxxhph tar file
Same with me, I think I soft bricked my vibrant, so I tried to restore to stock rom using odin. Odin detects it and runs stock rom just fine, but once it was restarting, the phone would not still boot up and would stay stuck at the vibrant samsung screen. I tried other roms such as froyo no brick, and i9000 stock rom also, would not boot also, just stuck at the samsung screen. What do I do? Odin works through the process fine though......why isnt it fixed?

OMG MAN!!! i love you! this did it for me, i even went and bough AND made a jig but none worked, didnt boot up into dl mode, just stayed stuck at vibrant boot screen, this did it for me, thx man, saved me hours of stress
yes yes yes! your mistake was using the power button! Lol.
FUTURE NOTE: if you upgrade to any gingerbread roms.... new bootloaders are required. If your JIG didnt get you into download mode before...... then it isn't working right. Once your into the the new Bootloaders for gingerbread, the sequence is........ HOLD VOL UP and POWER until you trigger DL mode. No USB required.... DO NOT FLASH NEW BOOTLOADERS WITHOUT A WORKING JIG IN YOUR POSSESION. TEST IT BEFORE YOU FLASH. I had...... an experiance.... lol
Not working

I tried all the instruction still stuck on Vibrant logo if i connect cable the Loader pix cums but doesnt load or show me battery image what to do now? also Odin doesnt recognize neither i can go to download mode!!!!!
If you can get in DL mode you are halfway there, next make sure you have correct drivers. Uninstall current drivers and reinstall correct drivers. Odin can be funny sometimes, you might need a new USB cable, try every USB port as well.
You can also use the All In One (AIO) program to get drivers and back to stock. If you are having issues with Odin try this

hi,
Once i gt a prob restoring. But then I re-flashed the ROM which the nandroid backup was taken and then in CWM selected advance and gave restore data option(as i remember).. (it was not full restore with system..b/c I flashed system separately)
You can go back to stock using ODIN .. as mentioned by Daddy_617 previously.
tc
Also if Odin doesn't work for you try Heimdall. I've seen post where this has worked for others.

[Q] Galaxy s dead trying to flash froyo from eclair 2.1. Cannot get it into recovery

Hi guys!
I was trying to flash froyo on my galaxy s with odin (original ROM eclair 2.1, bought the phone 2 weeks ago). To do so I got it into download mode via "adb reboot download" cause buttons combinations dont work on my phone. I checked the Re-partition in Odin, set PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC, pressed start and Odin got stuck at "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET" (after it did "file analisys.." and "set pit.."). After 15 minutes nothing happened, computer and phone weren't doing anything it seemed, so I turned the phone off.
I tried to boot but all I could get is the image of a phone and a computer on the screen. I tried pulling out the battery and get it into recovery and download mode with buttons combination but it doesn't work. Odis and adb won't find it if I plug it into the usb.
I believe there must be a way to flash the original ROM back!! I have a backup done with ROM Manager (ClockworkMod), and I have SDK & JDK installed on computer if that could be useful (I know nothing about them though). Anybody can help? Anything guys, I really appreciate and I thank you very much!

I had this. Odin got part of the way there and then froze. You have to get into Download mode. You can do this by holding Volume Up (down if that doesn't work) and home key (keep holding), and then holding down power for 7 seconds for a forced reset. Let go of power as soon as the screen goes blank and it should start directly into Download mode.
Make sure you have Odin v1.3 and try to reinstall 2.1 or 2.2. It worked for me after that.
i have the same problem plaese help ???

Problem With Odin

I'm trying to load the Unofficial 2.2 ROM onto my phone and I'm using the Odin method. I got into Download mode, got the pit and the ROM and put it all in place, the process starts but it just keeps getting stuck at "Do not turn off the Target." Now if I restart it, it won't even go into my phone.
Any suggestions why it keeps stopping at that point?

My advice is to repost this question in the Q and A section and then edit your OP, to indicate you've done as much... Add a link in THIS OP to your Q and A thread. You should get some help after that i'm sure.
does you phone just sit at a black screen? mine did the same thing black screen to where i doesnt look like its on but if you turn the lights off in the room your in you will see the screen is actually lit! no idea on how to fix this myself... on mine if you press and hold the vol up, vol down, and power buttons for a while, (until your fingers hurt) you will eventually see a black screen with red writing with some stuff i was unable to understand! but thats all i could get out of the phone... called t-mobile and they sent a replacement... but i would like to know what i did wrong because i will be flashing froyo alot and i dont want to run into this problem again... btw can get odin to recognize the phone at all!
If your phone is not Hardkey locked.
1) Remove battery from phone and put it back in again
2) Plug your USB into your computer (and make sure it is not in your phone yet)
3) Push and hold down your two volume keys (DO NOT HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON)
4) Plug in the USB cable into your phone
This takes me into Download every time. I did what you did. I had problem with Odin my phone and it just got stuck. I unplugged the phone and rebooted it. Or I should say I tried. It was dead to the world. Black screen. Power button did not start etc. Ran into a note from Kazer and he suggested the above procedure and it worked every time for me. Holding down the power button did not work for me.
Try it out and let me know if it worked.

[Q] !!Stuck on Vibrant Screen!! <tried everything, i think>

I searched Stuck on Vibrant screen and tried everything I could. What else can I try???
I bought this phone from a friend who said it just froze on him. He wasnt rooted or anything.
----When I turn on the phone it gets to the vibrant screen and stays there.
--If I try the three button method, letting go of the power button when the vibrant screen comes on, it then starts a boot loop of that screen only.
----Get into download mode and using ODIN 1.70, I use the T959UVJFD and vibrant512.pit with re-partition checked and also unchecked. It stays stuck on Vibrant Screen for 20 minutes.
--Then I try the 3 button and same thing happens
----I ODIN "Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5" and "s1_odin_20100512.pit" with re-partition checked and unchecked. It then gets into a boot loop of the little circle timer symbol, like its thinking or getting ready to charge for 20 minutes.
--Try the 3 button salute and get the vibrant screen boot loop.
----Try just turning it on and it just gets stuck on vibrant screen for 15 minutes.
----I then tried flashing the Zimage from "stock+Voodoo-Froyo-T959-UVJK6" kernal with re-partition checked and unchecked.
--Tried the 3 button salute both times and I still get the Vibrant boot loop.
I also tried with the T959UVJI6, get same results.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME. I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO
First, i would recommend you to download the AIO Vibrant Toolbox because it have all the files you need, the latest version of Odin and all the instructions. Did you try unchecking re-partition when using Odin?
About your phone, usually, when you are able to go into download mode, and Odin can see your phone, you are not bricked, except, if there is any hardware issues.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I will try that next and then report.
Thank u.
Oh and yes I did try both checked and un-checked
So downloaded the AIO Vibrant Toolbox and tried using it with no success.
Still gets stuck on vibrant screen while waiting 20 min, even after battery pull the 3button salute will not work and it is still stuck on vibrant screen.
Any other ideas??
power off the phone
open odin
hold volume up and down
plug usb in
or
open odin
pull the phone battery
plug usb in
hold vol up and down
push battery back in (while holding vol buttons)
both of these ways should put you in download mode, if they dont straight away just keep trying and try different ports on your computer

So Odin finishes flashing, then it continues to loop?
You're US T-Mobile Vibrant correct?
I personally used this:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Use this: T959UVJFD.tar (worked for me, updated easily)
http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=androidspin/samsung/vibrant/&file=T959UVJFD.tar
P.S.: Use the latest version of Odin. Search in the forums.
Yessir, it continues to loop.
It is the us tmo.
I believe I used odin ODIN 1.87 or somthing like that from the AIO Toolbox. I will try those links and search to sdee if there is a newer ODIN.
I really appreciate the help. I tried my best explaining everything I tried in my OP. Except now I am using the ODIN 1.87.

I love to reference that article!! LOL. I like the way that one starts, "So you've messed it up huh,....." rofl. That and it mentions JAC/JAD's thread, oh those were the days.
I got caught in the boot loop about a week ago and this worked for me as nothing else did to get back into recovery screen.
I don't remember if I pulled the battery or restarted the phone, but either way, once the phone was powered down, I held down the power button and both volume buttons, I waited until the VIBRANT logo came back up and BLINKED ONCE, then let go of only the power button, then I immediately hit the home button.
This brought me right back into recovery mode, well, clockwork recovery at which time I reflashed the rom prior that was working fine.
Might be worth giving it a shot.
I encourage you not to give up. I've been in similar situations before, and I always find it helps to exercise precise controls on your resuscitation attempts. Try using the same procedure in different USB ports, try using the same procedure 2 or three times in a row. Try Eugene's Froyo that does not brick and then going to stock JFD and then back to Eugene's again. Maybe try Heimdall.

Won't turn on, screen is blinking

So, I wanted to update the Rom, so tried to go into recovery mode. Pushed the volume down button instead of up, so got into download mode. Pushed the volume down button to cancel. Then pushed the right combination, but nothing past the Galaxy S2 logo with the warning triangle happened.
Tried to reboot a couple of times, but now the phone is completely dead.
Everytime I turn it on the Galaxy S2 logo appear, and when it dissappear the phone seems to be dead. However if I look closely, the screen is not turned off, it it just black (but turned on), and every 5 seconds or so I can see it "blinking", but it blinks "black" if you could say that, you won't notice it if you don't look careful, or you are in a dark room.
If you triple click the home button you normally "invert" the colours on the screen, and this also works in this case. Instead of it flashing with an almost unnoticable black, it is now white and every 5 seconds the screen turns off very briefly, but then the screen is white again.
To get it to stop doing this I need to remove battery. If I push and hold the power button the phone just restarts with the galaxy s2 logo, and then does the same again.
When I connect the phone to a charger or to a PC (while it's powered down), the battery logo appears for a couple of seconds, and then it enters this "blinking" screen thing again.
When connected to a PC it does not appear as a drive - however it seems like windows detects it, it installs the GT-9100 drivers. Samsung Kies can't connect, it just keeps trying to connect forever, without coming with an error, but it's not connecting.
Hard reset is not working in any of the described ways, whatever I do, if its to get it into recovery mode, download mode, or just trying to turn the damn phone on, it just do the blinking thing.
Is this some sort of a boot loop from hell!!?
sounds strange, can you still get it in download mode without issues?
If you can i would advice to flash back to stock(!!)
or you could try to flash a cf-root to see if thats gets you into recovery format system, data, cache, dalvik and flash the new rom.
but im not sure if that would work, a clean install from stock would be better i believe,
as to why it went this way i have no idea!
Good luck!
If you can get in download mode, flash a stock rom with odin and that should do the trick
yes!
Well, that was odd, thought I had tried that several times, but yes now at least I can get it into download.
Now I used ODIN to flash a file (CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar) that I had laying on my PC from back when I was originally rooting my phone. ODIN gave me a "Pass" reply and I got the phone into a bootloader. I quickly wiped everything I could, and at the moment I'm seeing if I can boot the phone normally.
Thanks!!
Well my rom is f***** it won't boot, but atleast I can get it into recovery mode.
Have just installed cyanogen 9 stable + gapps, it is now booting up!
Luckily I backed my phone up with Titanium backup just a couple of hours ago!!!
it's working!
Well that saved my ass. I was so close to throwing my phone out of the window and going online to order a S3...
Now I'm setting up my phone - nice, wanted to try Cyanogen 9 anyway.
Cool.. Always be patient.... Rather than thinking of purchasin a new phone when these kind of situations occur. Keep a usb jig with you
