Just bought a new evo 4g view online (not via sprint), the software info is:
Android Version
2.3.4
HTC Sense Version
2.1
Software Number
1.22.651.1
PRI Version
2.8_003
PRL Version
60679
When I try to update the firmware, profile or PRL it gives 1233 error. When I try to do HTC Software Update it says "There are no updates available for your tablet"
I am only running with WiFi and have no intention of taking 4G data plan from sprint. I also do not have an SD card attached yet.
Is there any way to do OTA update to Honeycomb on this tablet. Or should I try to root and install the ROM, if so, what is the best way to get the stock HC ROM for this tablet. I would rather not root/ROM right now as I am still evaluating the tablet.
Thanks
SK
I went to the Sprint Store and saw another EVO View 4G with HoneyComb loaded on it. Maybe Sprint sends the updates upon activation only.

Any references to this comments? I am asking because, otherwise I will plan to root and load the ROM.

If you wanna root, you don't want the OTA upgrade to HoneyComb.
Go to the View Development forum and learn how to make a rooted HC version.

In that case I will probably wait. I saw Sprint has decided EOL for HTC View 4G.

Does it exist?
Is there an update to Android 2.1 as RUU? I have no wireless connection here and not enough MB available to download the OTA update.
If not, I have the OTA as a zip (OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R-2.73.405.93_releasephkp3wtd8ykg6hqk.zip). Is it possible to use it to update the phone?

Not yet, but be aware you will lose root if you do so.
I'm sure there's a way to make the OTA work manually, but you'd be much better installing a custom ROM IMHO.
They likely won't make an RUU yet (if ever), as they seem to think it stops us from making custom ROMs, but VillainROM just used the OTA update
Ty for your quick answer.
This is not my phone anymore, as I bought the Desire
But as I sold my Hero to a workmate, I wanted to install the latest updates on it. She doesn't care about having root or not, and with original ROM I don't void the warranty :
Btw she had another SIM with unlimited data plan, so I managed to do the update with the other sim.
OT:
I really don't understand why HTC is so much against custom ROMS. It gives their phones a plus that the other don't have (or had)
If you want RUU,you can look here:

Ty very much to you too.
Now I'm already downloading the OTA update with another SIM, or I would have tried it.
yep! it exists! go to shipped roms! it's there the new RUU dated 6/7/2010

Nice You learn something every day
Moved as not development.
I am quite new on android and I have never rooted.
Now I have decided to root my HTC aria but it is upgraded to 2.2 through OTA.
I have Googled for a while, and it seems that rooting is not possible on aria 2.2 OTA upgrade.
Is it true?
If yes, am I going to master reset (factory data reset) it to root?
Or are there any other ways?
Sent from my HTC Aria A6380 using XDA App
p.s. sorry for poor English I am from HK
Edit: I have already downgraded it to 2.1 Eclair but the version of hboot is still 1.02.
Also, I still can't root it.
That is correct, you can't root your phone if you downloaded the 2.2 update, there is no way to root it as of yet and there is noway to downgrade
So I still can't root after factory reset?
Sent from my HTC Aria A6380 using XDA App
No, you cannot
I have already downgraded my phone to 2.1 Eclair.
But I still can't root it.
Is it because the version of hboot?
Yes it is.

No there is currently no way to root the newer HTC devices that have installed the Froyo update, including now the AT&T Aria. HTC has modified the HBOOT loader code on all of these devices and removed the previous root exploit that was used. At this point in time a new rootable exploit has not been found, so you are out of luck.

Why would HTC (= not gay) allow ATT (= gay) to dictate something line locking the phone to a specific ROM and not letting users continue to root the thing?

AT&T had nothing to do with this. HTC is the one that has changed the HBOOT loader code on all of their devices, not just the AT&T Aria. If you bought an unlocked HTC Aria from Asia and installed the Froyo 2.2 update, you would have the same issue.

Yes indeed. But I don't get it why they are pressed to change the HBOOT like this. Someone will end-up cracking it anyway. But anyway...
Dude, you can still tether w/o paying by creating apn settings for MediaNet.
You can find info about APN settings in the forum or download an app that can backup apn settings (I use HiAPN) and access your phone via computer and open up the XML file. In that file it should have the apn settings of your carrier (password, proxy, etc.) Make a new APN setting with the same values you just read. Please note that MCC is 310 and MNC is 410.
Has anyone figured out how to root the new aria HBOOT ? Or are they still working on it if anyone is working on it.
as far as I know, many people had this mistake and had to wait for developer to solve it one day

This is a common problem with a lot of the HTC devices and is not unique to the Aria upgrade, so once a solution is discovered, hopefully it can be applied to the Aria also.

Security of the platform. If you openly allow people to gain root access to your devices, no one will want to carry your device, nor develop software for it.
Rooting allows
-method to circumvent tethering restrictions
-file browsing the phone which allows easy pirating of software
Me, I want to root for the first reason.
im also facing this issue
Aria official android 2.2, HBOOT 1.02, SHIP ON
not able to root it, waiting for someone talented working out a solution...
Hello,
If there are two updates available, for example the 3d games update and the android 4.0 (ics) update. But it's not possible to install any of them 'cause my phone is rooted. Will the phone show me the latest update (ics) or will it show the old one (3d games). So summarized do I have to install all updates to get to the latest one or can I ignore older ones and directly install the latest one?
And my second question is, is there a way to install an official update while using a rooted phone?
And finaly my last question. How do I unroot my evo 3d if I've used revolutionary tool?

What the smart majority of rooted users do is to wait for the updated files to be stripped by developers, so that your phone will not lose root or have sprint spyware installed. This also allows for the radio to be updated without running an RUU. Usually they have it ready within a few days, so unless you are REALLY impatient, or just don't want your phone rooted, then go ahead and install OTA updates.
The exception is the 1.5 hboot, which I was lucky enough to avoid. I THINK you have to unroot (those tools are located in the development stickies) to update.
Almost everything you need is under the development section. It just takes a little searching.

but u haven't really answered the first question. The problem isn't that i'm not able to update, the problem is that I don't know if there is or if there isn't an update.
btw i'm using a gsm evo 3d not a cdma version
I think you may be confused. You are talking about two different types of updates, app updates and system updates. App updates will always be shown in the market, and the Market should notify you of updates every few days. System (rom) updates are pushed out from your carrier. If you are rooted, you should NEVER take an OTA update. If you are rooted but still on the stock rom, you WILL get notified of the ota updates, just be sure NOT to take it. If you are on a custom rom, you likely wont get notified of the updates.

No i'm not confused. There is an ota update for german gsm evo 3d phones called 3d games. It includes some games, some other tools and also som bugfixes i think. It's not an update of any games in the market it's an ota rom update...
So my question was will it show the latest update or will it show the latest currently NOT INSTALLED update?

Trust me you'll know when there's an update. xda will be thriving and everybody talking about it!
So I sent an email to Telus to ask when the update to ICS for the Amaze would be released by Telus. Here is the response I received today:
Hello Mark,
The Android 4.0 was already released last January 2012.
To manually check for software updates on the HTC Amaze 4G, please follow these steps:
1) Go to Home.
2) Go to Menu.
3) Go to Settings.
4) Go to About Phone.
5) Go to software updates.
6) Select check now. Once an update is available, the following message is displayed: A system update is available, would you like to download the following system software.
Follow the instructions on the screen to update.
Can anybody with a stock Telus Amaze confirm this?? I am rooted and running the energy rom so an OTA update will not show up. Should I revert to stock and see if it shows up?? Or can another Telus customer try it and let us know.
Revert to Stock and check.
If it works then let us know and I will work on more progress

Can someone point me to instructions for this. Do I need to relock the bootloader, install stock recovery? What order? I found the stock RUU but it seems to be an exe file and I'm not sure how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

yeah, and if we can get a dump of his phone with ics on it. it will make our lives alot easier since there arent many differences between the telus amaze and the tmobile amaze

I am with Mobilicity on a custom ROM, but the phone came from a Telus user. I could have updated before but I didn't know it was available.

I'm sure the OTA would be enough to build a custom ROM off of. You wouldn't necessarily need a complete dump of his device.

Flash this ROM then check for software OTA's.
Highly unlikely Telus released ICS two months ago and nobody found it...but I guess you never know.

Well the OTA is downloaded to the device prior to flashing it to the device. I'm not quite sure which directory but I know I've found it before. He would just need to extract the update zip prior to flashing.

from what i know this update was to fix issues with the Sprint network( hope i am correct). you could take it before you s-off. You may want to check for software info on the rumrunner thread to check if it can be s-offed with the new software version.
