pda net tablet new version paired with fox fi on my bionic has allowed me to connect my prime to my bionic without a tethering plan or root. best of all they are both free
I have Bluetooth tethering working with just pdanet. What is fox fi? I searched the market and google and found nothing related to android by that name... do I fail at the web today?
Edit: I fail at the web. Foxfi.com takes you to their Android Market page. I guess my phone isn't supported however as I just get "Obtaining IP address..." and it never connects. I supposed I'll be sticking with Bluetooth tethering.

I had trouble finding anything until I went to the website. It works wonderfully with the Bionic. Unfortunately only some phones are supported at this time. I couldn't use bluetooth with my bionic, but pdanet notified me that there was a new version of pdanet for tablet and it then took me to foxfi. I am surprised it hasn't been removed all together or at least hasn't made a bigger splash than it has
I just got this working on my Lenovo Ideapad K1 (tablet) and Samsung Fascinate (phone).
Question that I have is do I even need pdanet?

Hey all, I just got a Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB WiFi for my wife. I have a Droid Incredible and we are trying to get the Tab to see my phone's wireless tether AP. It works no problem on my laptop but I am not having any luck with the Tab. Is there a reason for this?
I did a search and came up with nothing, so I apologize if this has been covered somewhere....
Thanks for any help.
The phone is broadcasting on ad-hoc mode, which the Tab doesn't recognize natively. You can however root and switch out a file, which will allow out to recognize. See the thread in development about ad-hoc to learn more

Thanks, I had actually just found it. With my Incredible I got it working by updating to the 3.0 Tether app and changing my device profile to Galaxy S. I cannot however get it to work on my wife's Eris. I change the profile but when I go to start the tether, it 'starts with errors'. And in the error section it says that it failed to activate the wifi interface.
Am I screwed on getting this to work with the Eris?
Try "android wifi tether" version 3.1 beta 2. it worked for me. Your phone must be rooted, but your tablet obviously doesnt have to be.
I cant post a link yet, after searching google for "android wifi tether" it should be the first link to a google codes page.

Yeah, the phone (Eris) was always rooted, but it didn't like v3 of the WiFi tether. It always worked on my Incredible.
I ended up rooting the tablet and fixing the supplicant file, now all is good with v2 Wireless Tether on the Eris.
Thanks for the reply though.
Hey everyone, just wanted to let you rooted android users out there know that you can tether to your touchpad pretty easily.
Go download the newest version of wifi tether 3.1beta5
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Install it
Run it
Menu-Settings
Change Device-Profile
Select Samsung Fascinate
Change Setup-Method
Select Softap for Samsung (Master)
Back to main screen
And now you are good to go. I have used this on my fascinate running the community rom, also read that someone had it running on their charge as well.
Have fun tethering.
Post back if this does or doesn't work for you, what device, and what rom/kernal you are running.

[HELP] Touchpad won't recognize my Android Hotspot
I just finished checking, and while my android tablet recognizes and connects to my android cellphone tethering, my hp touchpad doesnt even see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have no idea because I did not have a problem doing this on an evo

Get the beta tethered wifi app. The standard one from the market doesn't work with it. I think it can't connect to ad hoc routers our something.

I cannot seem to connect Touchpad to any adhoc WiFi network. Really would like a fix for this one. iPads and iPhones connect to adhoc networks just fine.
I would manually enter the ssid, broadcast id, network id and ip address and forget dealing with dhcp if it's not working
maybe reboot? Mine works flawlessly on my android and touchpad
From what Im gathering, my HTC hero uses ad-hoc and the touchpad doesnt pick that up. Shame, but I have a feeling Im SOL.
Try turning off all the security settings etc...

wifi tether 3.1 beta 2. Select epic 4g under device profile in settings. Worked fine for me last night when I tried it. Took a little to configure and started with errors but I just restarted it and it was good.

Some android phones can only broadcast wifi via adhoc mode which is incompatible with the touchpad. Its not a matter of what program you choose, if your phone can only do ad-hoc wifi then it wont work. Try using bluetooth (Wireless Tether 2.0.7)

Any idea what version to use for the photon? I tried this one and I just get errors. Thanks
Wifi tethering the touchpad works great using my HTC incredible (running CM7). Must be the ad-hoc issue others have mentioned.
i had issues getting my tp to connect to the wireless hotspot from my desire s.
as soon as i changed the security type from wpa2 to wpa it started working.

The reason for that might be that they are two different standards of encryption, lollol, neither is backward/forward compatible with the other

yes i know that. i'm not a dickhead.
the TP is supposed to support WPA2, however it had issues with WPA2 on my desire s.
This does not work for me Either-it keeps saying 'Tethering but with Errors-see Log' and the log cannot load the Sofap part...
I have a feeling some phones can only broudcast WiFi in Ad-Hoc-Like my HTC HERO It may be time to say goodbye to it after all...I was actually hoping the TouchPad would mean i dont need a new phone as most of my stuff (good Flash Web Browser/Email/Games/Whatsapp/Facebook) would be sorted between the two devices....Oh well....
I believe the easiest way to tether from your rooted Android to the Touchpad is if you're running CM7, to use the built in wi-fi tether as it works flawlessly!
i dont see this option for fascinate
Select Softap for Samsung (Master)
i only see WEXT (ad-hoc)
I used wireless tether without any problem on my old droid X, but now I'm having connection issues. My Asus transformer can see my Rezound just fine and connect, but my in dashoard Galaxy Tab doesn't see it at all.
I've tried the current beta of Wireless Tether, 2.0.7, Barnacle, and Open Garden, all with the same results.
We need to nail down what specific settings those successfully tethering are using.
Please list the following.
1. What app you are using.
2. What settings you are using (device presets, clamping, ect.).
3. What you are successful in tethering wirelessly to.
I'm going to run a few more tests, and post mine.
I don't mean to ask a dumb question but these apps just allow you to use your phones 4g on a laptop, etc. ? Are they free if you have unlimited data?
Why aren't people using Mobile hotspot to tether or am I getting confused?

Thanks for the post. I really need to know this too. I've tried everything but still a no go.
According to wiki ad hoc needs the same channels to work. For the people that do have it working what channels are you using in ad hoc mode.
Definition
To set up an ad-hoc wireless network, each wireless adapter must be configured for ad-hoc mode versus the alternative infrastructure mode. In addition, all wireless adapters on the ad-hoc network must use the same SSID and the same channel number.

The problem is what devices you try to use to connect to your phone's mobile connection. I tried connecting with my Asus laptop (Windows 7) and it wouldn't connect correctly. I tried connecting with my gf's windows xp laptop and it works perfectly fine!
If you have questions about wireless tethering, please go do a bit of searching and reading, there are hundreds if threads that describe what it is.
This is a thread so we can get it working right.

I fought for days over this before this release and from my trial and endless errors Ive come to realize (very very long story short) for the time being the best work through is using "OpenGarden" from the market. Don't change any settings. Just have an open connection and use access control. Like I said. Long story short, the issue lies within encryption. Leave it open and use access control. Hope this helps.

+1. Its the only way I got it to work with my device so far.
So what paid/free apps are currently working?
Is anyone tethering a Touchpad running CM7 successfully? or an iPad? Currently posting for hotspot, but might cancel if I can still successfully tether those two over Adhoc. I can't get the Touchpad to work using wifi tether yet and don't have an iPad right now.

I've successfully tethered my IPad2 to my Rezound with Wireless Tether 2.0.7.
I also tether my Ipad2 without any problems. I'm using Open Garden.
Hello,
I've been trying to use tethering of my 3G phone to get WiFi on my Prime. I am using an app from the market that creates an Adhoc network to do the tethering. The app is working fine as I verified by connecting my Laptop to my phone's 3G and got it working.
The Transformer Prime detects the Ad Hoc network but just doesn't want to connect to it!
Any suggestions?
Works fine for me (prime tethered to 4G HTC Rezound) .. It's probably just your app. Try using wifi-tether.

Yup, not working for me either. It sees it and let's me select the wifitether network but it just says "saved". It won't let me connect to it. I'll keep trying

I get that sometimes too...but a long hold on the wifi line has options to connect/forget/modify.....at different times, I've had to use each of them....but I'm always eventually been able to get tethered to my Win6.5 TouchPro 2.
The app I use is WMWiFiRouter.....it works great....but it's not a free app

You don't need that fix....That's one thing that 21 did....was to incorporate that fix into the update.
i think i may have your answer. i couldn't tether my prime to my htc evo 4g either. then i enabled routing fix under wifi tether settings and now I'm able to tether prime no problems at all. hope that works btw I'm using wifi tether 3.1 beta 6

tried a bunch of times...
i tried to connect a transformer prime to a mac book pro as access point with no success.
i got a "saved" message instead of "connected"... hit "connect" doesn't do the trick either.
tried using a nexus s as access point using easy wifi tether, and i've been able to connect my prime with no problem.
no security in both case. if ad hoc connection doesn't work please specify what access point you try to connect to. it might help to solve the problem.
ad hoc works with joikuspot premium on nokia n97 mini
In joikuspot premium settings you just have to choose for WEP Open. That way the tf201 will accept it when you put in the network key you get.
I’m trying to find the best app to tether my tablet. I’ve got an ASUS Transformer Prime and it’s WiFi only, no 3G/4G so I’m trying to find the best way to share my internets from my Samsung Galaxy SII. I found this great app called FoxFi but for some reason I can’t just turn my phone into a hotspot and use my Transformer to connect via WiFi. I have to use a companion app on my tablet called PdaNet Tablet and it connect via Bluetooth! I don’t understand how it works, but it is very cool. The only downside is I can only seem to browse the web with connection. If I try to use the mail app or even access the Google Play store, it won’t connect. The only thing it will let me do is surf the net. Long story short, there’s a ton of apps out there, and without wasting my money trying them all I was hoping I could get some feedback here from people who’ve used apps with better success. Any input is welcome, thanks!
