[Q] App non compatible with kernel - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a I9000 with ICSSGS Onecosmic 4.2 rom installed.
I noticed a bootloop when i installed Semaphore Kernel (first with 7.5 then with 8.0 version as well).
I though my SG "didn't like" that kernel, maybe wrong installation, i don't know.
I made all the wipes but nothing to do until...i noticed the the phone went on loop just after loading a specific app. "Antutu battery saver".
It is very weird because that app works with all the others kernel (Devil, Glitch, etc.), but not with Semaphore.
Am i the only one who had this problem?
(i unistalled that app and now everything works fine)

[Q] Custom Kernel Issues

Hi guys,
I'm using a new AT&T Galaxy S2. It seems as though whenever I install a custom kernel other than stock, eventually my phone gets slower and slower and crashes. This includes the daily kernel from Entropy, as well as the basic CWM one from codeworkx.
It doesn't matter what ROM I'm using (I've tried a few), but whenever I'm using a custom kernel, it will work for a while, but then stop. It usually works for a few hours or so. However, after this, the phone will freeze. I'll do a fresh restart, and then it will fail to load a lot of my widgets, and start to freeze again.
I've tried this maybe 9 or 10 times, with consistent results. As soon as I flash stock kernel, it works perfectly fine (I ran it for about 4 or 5 days on stock with no slowdown).
Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!

Siyah Kernel 3.1.2

Hi all...
Please could someone help me?
I am running the latest UK Sim Free ICS Stock ROM - and yesterday I updated the kernel as I wasn't best pleased with battery life.
Initially, I flashed Siyah 3.1.1 via Odin - and after initial boot up, "android upgrading" etc... I rebooted phone, went into recovery, and loaded the "Battery" profile.
The only other adjustment I made was turning off Auto-root and changed USB charging to 650mA in ExTweaks so that it charges via USB at the same speed as AC.
I made no other changes.
Then, the Siyah 3.1.2 Kernel was released, just a couple of hours after. So, I downloaded the CWM zip version this time, and also the Kernel cleaning script that is available on here (more for cleaning up the old stock kernel files than the Siyah)...
I rebooted into CWM and did the Update from zip - ran the Kernel cleaning script first, then flashed Siyah 3.1.2. I rebooted - let it do its "Android Upgrading" stuff and so on, then rebooted, loaded "Battery" profile, and made the same changes as originally - nothing more.
However, now, whenever phone reboots or powers on - I briefly get the "Android Upgrading" screen up for a few seconds. I didnt have this with the 3.1.1 - and am wondering how I can resolve this? I have definitely turned off Auto-Root, so it cant be this.
Another question, I recall reading, but cant find the post anywhere, that to disable the Siyah boot-animation that comes on just before the default Galaxy S2 one (in the same way a Carriers logo's does) - you need to create a file somewhere called .nobootanimation or something?
Does anybody know how to disable this so it just starts up like a stock S2 would? I love the kernel, but I personally prefer my phone to "appear" and feel as stock as possible.
Any help much appreciated - Thanks!
EDIT: I managed to find the post regarding the boot logo and have sorted that - but still found nothing on the Android Upgrading issue - Ive just reset ExTweaks profile through recovery options, no joy...

You would be better asking this question on the SiyahKernel thread
Thanks, I tried there first, and it said I couldnt post as i had less than 10 posts... :/
If this helps:
I re-flashed the 3.1.2 Kernel, this time via Odin (so no Kernel cleaning script run this time prior to flash), but I have the same problem.
I cleared dalvik cache afterwards, and as expected at first boot after clearing I get the:
Android Upgrading:
Optimising Applications
prompt.
Rebooted after this - but still get the:
Android Upgrading:
Starting Apps
at every bootup...
I tried "Fix Permissions" (even though I know this is not what it is for, on the off-chance)... but made no difference.
I reboot phone a lot - and whilst this doesnt effect the functionality of the phone, it does get quite irritating

Phone starts freezing with ARHD with Perseus Kernel

Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300
Hi, I just recently installed ARHD 11.2 with the Perseus Kernel onto my S3, and it generally runs very smoothly and the battery life is greatly improved.
However, after a while, the phone starts getting very laggy and unresponsive (it will take more than 5 seconds to recognize any input) and I have to restart the phone. It'll work fine again for a while before it starts getting laggy again. Because of this, I just had to go back to the stock ROM.
Anyone have a similar problem? Note that I haven't used any other performance tweaks, only just the Perseus Kernel.

which version of Perseus are you running? because i have heard that the latest perseus kernel has a bug or something, hence, using the v24.x is recommended at the moment..
try this
- Boot to CWM recovery
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
- fix permissions (under advanced)
- reboot system now
Ok, I will try flashing ARHD again with an older version of Perseus. I'm not sure what version it is, but I downloaded the latest version of ARHD very recently, so I'm guessing it comes with the latest version of Perseus.
PS. Noob question, but where can I find older version of Perseus? I can only find 25.3 from the thread in the developers forums.
Oh v25.3 is out maybe he made some bug fixes already.. and it will work great with ARHD v13
Perseus kernel v24.x is already implented in ARHD's Aroma installation

Invisiblek's dory kernel - Google Fit stops working

I noticed on LCA43 that when I install Invisiblek's Dory Kernel (I've tried V3 and V4), the Fit app stops tracking steps. I also find that it affects the sleep tracking function on Sleep as Android. I was running the V2 kernel on LDZ22D and didn't have that problem. When I reinstall the stock version of LCA43 with the stock kernel, step and sleep tracking work fine. Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?
Same here. I'm on LCA43 with Dory v3 and it doesnt' count my steps anymore. Maybe I'll try another kernel (arters?).

[Q] HELP! My S3 soft reboots and I can't find the culprit

Hi everyone. I've been using this phone for like... 3 years now? It's a great phone but it's showing it's age. Anyway, no money to change it yet so I'm willing to stick to it for at least one more year.
I was using CM11 with Boeffla Kernel and it was working great. But from time to time it failed to boot (something related to CM11). But this was not really often. It happened to me like 2 or 3 times in a year.
Anyway, I got tired of it and I wanted a pure stable experience, I didn't care to have the latest android installed. So I flashed back to stock 4.3 with ODIN. Then I flashed Archidroid 1.7.18 (which is based on the official 4.3 rom from samsung). And I flashed the corresponding Boeffla Kernel (5.11).
The thing is that the phone started to soft reboot from time to time without an apparent reason. Like, 5 times a day. It does not cold reboot (I don't see the boot logo). The Boeffla kernel says on the notification "DEFAULT profile applied after a hot or soft reboot".
I tried with an older Boeffla (5.6), it still happens. I tried with STOCK kernel, and it still occurs. Then I flashed another almost stock 4.3 ROM, with stock kernel and it still does it!!
I've tried with latest TWRP and latest Philz Touch too!
It could be an app? How to I identify the culprit?
Ok. Just to give some closure to this "born dead" thread, I've flashed latest Philz Touch Recovery (6.59.0), latest Blekota Rom (Ported 4.4.4 Based), and finally latest Boeffla Kernel for Samsung kk 4.4.4
And...... no more soft reboots. Everything is working GREAT. Amazing ROM by the way. Extremely recommended. :good:
