Questions for those who upgraded with AT&T online - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

It seems I am able to upgrade using a line that's not even due for an upgrade for $299, which is cool, but I have a couple of questions.
The shipping date listed on the website is the 17th. I have heard most people are expecting to get their phones by Friday the 18th. Are they supposed to be overnighting them? They don't say when they will be delivered...
Also, I have the old unlimited data plan, and they say I can keep it, but when I go to upgrade they give me a choice of data plans including "LTE Unlimited data and 200 text messages" for $35, or "LTE unlimited data and unlimited texts" for $50 I currently have unlimited data for $30 and 200 texts for $5, which would match the description of the first offer, I know they no longer offer unlimited data, so what are these offers? Are they just designed to give me what I already have with LTE? So weird... Did anyone else get these choices?
If I order the phone from an AT&T store, when could i pick up the Note? Could I still upgrade my line that is not due?

LTE Unlimited data and 200 text messages is the same as what you have for $35...

Sorry, your right. It would be scheduled to ship February 16th. Hopefully overnight, but then again if it requires a signature I wouldn't get it till lord knows when. Hmmm...

What website/path did you upgrade through? I have three lines that aren't due for upgrade..but It shows 649 bucks for the upgrade. What is your current phone on that line? What was your upgrade date?
TIA

I think the people who have seen delivery dates are the "premier" customers. I preordered online and all it says is that they will ship on the 16th (Thursday), no idea if it will be overnighted or not but it does say there is no weekend delivery, so I'm not expecting it until the following Monday/Tuesday.
As for your plan, I think my options were a bit different. You DO have to change your data plan if you don't already have an LTE phone--$30/unlimited LTE data is what you should get. I was given $20/300MB, $25/2GB (which is the upgrade from my current plan, not available normally any more), $30/3GB, and $50/5GB+tethering for LTE data. Text was separate, but I had to select nothing since my only options were zero and unlimited texts; hopefully this means I will be keeping my $5/200 option, and if not I'll be calling them after to get it back. I'd strongly recommend you keep your 200 texts since it isn't available any more. It sounds to me like what you want is $35 unlimited LTE/200 texts, though having it merged like that seems fishy to me.

I just noticed on the website it says "Free 2 day shipping". So if they ship our notes on Thursday they would come on Saturday, unless they don't deliver on Saturday (UPS doesn't normally). Then it would come on Monday...
AHHHH!!!

I think they will overnight it for Friday since it is a special pre-order deal like the iPhones. On the Premier site, it clearly says on or before the 17th. Not sure why they would treat the orders differently.

I do hope they overnight it, but neither on any of the webpages I've visited (order page, order status) nor in confirmation emails did they promise me any dates besides shipping on the 16th. So I'm just trying not to get my hopes up.

Thanks for the info, that's great to hear!

Interesting. I just placed my order via BB.com a few hours ago, and I have an estimated arrival date of 2/13/12-2/14/12. Sounds too good to be true, but I'll find out for sure in the next couple of days!

Best Price Options? (which source usually best?)

I don't think I've ever bought a phone upon it's release date. Last time I bought from VZW was in my pre-Eris days when I had an LG VX8700 (still my fav non-smart-phone).
Anyway, in anticipation of this TBolt launch, where would you guys expect to see the best pricing? I don't know if the corporate stores, Amazon or Best Buy, or VZW online or a satellite kiosk traditionally have the best pricing/rebates, etc.>
Just looking for the most bang for my buck I guess.
I do find it ridiculous that they've not announced pricing. If they are "coming soon" they have to know this crap.
if your looking for online then go for Wirefly if your also getting a new contract( i wouldnt but thats me)
of if your looking for full price either amazon or bestbuy. i suspect it will be sold out quick so bestbuy's preorder would make sure you get dibs

Yeah, I'll be doing a new contract, NO way in hellz I'm going to pay full retail for the bugger.
I wonder if BB will let me in on their "buy back" program for free if I pre-order this week. I guess that new service is free this week only. ?
I will find out.

Im paying full $600+
id say Wirefly as they give a ridiculous discount. but dont break their contract or you will be paying out the ass to them
Been with VZW since '98, I doubt I'll jump ship in the next 24 months. I just need to make sure that whatever I do w/the phone it does NOT affect my monthly pricing (I've got that great 69.99 plan for unlimited text, data, 450 minutes and 5 friends and family #'s).
Wirefly is good on some phones, but Amazon is sometimes better with their discounts.
I will be adding two of these to an existing plan, and porting numbers over from ATT, so I think I will see who offers the best deal. Including calling VZW directly and pitching them whatever lowest price I find online.
ATT's sales/retention has always matched Amazon prices for me in the past and without the pesky secondary ETF to worry about.

Its probably grandfathered in from long ago. Much like ATT will let you keep an existing unlimited data plan, but they no longer offer it to new customers.

It was a special pricing plan but it ended on 1/31. You had to be "invited" by VZW to get it -or- had to call in to customer service and ask REAL nice about their loyalty program.
My contract was due to be up this year, so I think that's how I got it.

G note available at the ATT site (pre-order)

Just checked.
edit: scratch that. It's there but when you click to actually order it, it's a blank page. They are probably doing it right now.
Anyway, just thought i'd post it.....
Buy it in-store! It helps build hype and it's fun to sell phones like these. Then laugh at people buying iphones with 3.5" screens haha
We work on commision
I just pre-ordered mine through the Premier website. Due to arrive Feb 17 or earlier. I ordered the ceramic white version.
I just ordered mine off contract . .649 bucks ....with Texas taxes 703 bucks !

Upgrade. When the preorder page went live there was no way to perform an upgrade. After about an hour, they added the Note into the selection phones you can use for an upgrade. I was worried they weren't going to allow upgraders to preorder, but I was wrong.
First time poster.
I just tried upgrading a line that was eligible, but the price is coming out to $399 and I can't seem to get the $100 dollars off to make it $299.

The price of the phone is $399 but there is a "$100 discount". Are you encountering this price at the time you have to pay? I think maybe the discount won't be visible in your cart until you are actually ready to pay. You have to select the Note as your phone, then click "Add a Plan" and select the appropriate data plan.

Well just pre-ordered mine from AT&T online.
I am only 7 months into my current contract (Samsung Infuse 4G) but my Note upgrade cost is $299.00 + $18 onetime fee / 2yr contract extension. Plus I'll ebay my Infuse in a few weeks so that'll help lower the cost.
I tried BestBuy but it wouldn't allow the upgrade pricing. Oh well...no free case.
HOPE I don't regret this...but I don't think I will...the Infuse (4.5") has kinda gotten me used to larger smartphones.

HOW HOW HOW ?????? You shouldnt be able to do that. I cant!!!
Pre-ordered Carbon Blue shortly after midnight using via AT&T Premier with my employers discount for monthly service. Ordered new line with "voice-restricted data-only" at $36/mo after 20% employer discount (currently I'm Sprint w EVO 4G). Was not eligible for $100 discount due to no voice-plan. Price was $375 - $25 employer discount + $21 state sales tax = $371.
And, yeah, this data-only plan (which claims "unlimited data") does not seem to be available to the general public, it's somehow tied tied to my employer-discount negotiated plans. Will be trying to use VOIP to handle the very low number of calls I make each month, but that's the topic for another forum.

it surprised me. I logged into my at&t account and chose upgrade.
Now...it did require me to change my plan to the 3GB $30 (from 2GB $25)...maybe that had something to do with it.

The Premier website is freakin' annoying. They're listing the thing at $399 then forcing you to get a rebate. I thought Premier customers were supposed to get preferential treatment!
EDIT: Oops, looks like the discount is applied automatically when you check out. Still, it's annoying -- like they're trying to make you think you're getting a better deal than you are.

[Q] buy without plan?

I'm trying to buy htc one from tmobile online without any plan, is there a way to do it?
It keeps saying "plan is required to complete this transaction"
Can't.

You have to have a line with Tmobile already. Sign into your account, go to "upgrade this line" and you can get the phone in your cart without a new plan.
Or you can just call Tmobile (you don't need an account with them to do this). They'll sell one to you over the phone and you won't need a plan.

It's ridiculous that phone carriers now force a data plan on you if you want to get a smartphone so I feel your pain. I go between my house and school and have WiFi in both places so I have no need for a data plan.
One time I kept complaining to a T-Mobile rep until she finally let me order the phone without adding data but I don't know if it would work again. Maybe call again and explain your situation over and over and maybe you'll have some luck like I did.

I just recently switched my family plan to their new plan from a very old family plan that we've had for years.
Their most basic plan has 500mb of internet included (which is probably more than I use when I'm not on wifi).
You can buy one without a plan but the cost is 650. Not the 580 that everyone pays "with a qualified plan"

I was in the same boat as you. I have the $30 plan and an activated pre paid SIM.
I went through the same struggles with the online ordering and customer service. Finally I decided to just buy it as a new line because since I was paying full price I could just cancel the service and keep the phone. I got the order in but there is some kind of fulfilling glitch and my order has been stuck in processing for a week.
Getting tired of dealing with incompetent people on the phone, I started to look around for a store that was carrying the One and I finally found a store in Arlington, VA. I drove out there and was able to buy one in person with little difficulty. The only issue was what somebody mentioned earlier, they wanted me to buy a service plan and I told them no I just wanted to use the plan I currently had. He eventually let me do that but the phone still ended up costing $609 + Tax. I asked why the price was higher and he couldn't tell me. I called T-mobile to get some clarification and they couldn't tell me so I asked around on Twitter and got a response from T-Mobile. They offered to credit me back the $30 difference so overall I am pretty happy.
BTW, the $30 plan works great with the phone. I even get some actual 4G LTE sporadically here in DC.
Good luck with getting the phone. It's definitely worth it.

Quick question about upgrading with Sprint

So I've been with Sprint for years. Currently have a unlimited data family plan with 2 lines and like 1000 or 1500 minutes and also get a 25% discount as my girlfriend who has the other line used to work at a company that gave us the discount.
I upgraded my EVO 4G to an EVO LTE 2 years ago at Best Buy and had no problem keeping my same plan with the discount by signing a new 2 year contract.
Question is will I be able to do the same if I upgrade through Best Buy or maybe another place? I don't want to be transferred to their new plans, lose my discount, or pay monthly for a new phone. Would rather pay the $200 or whatever upfront. Please provide me with as many details regarding this as possibe and thanks in advance.

you can keep your same plans, however they will do a check to see if you are still eligible for the employer discount. They will request to send an email to the @domain.com of the place she worked, and then click on the link in the email sent, to re-verify for the discount. If she has a friend still working at the company she have the email sent to them, they can forward it to her and she can simply click on the link. There is no other association or follow up to verify for the discount. I have not worked for MSFT for years but still get my discount because I have a few friends with @Microsoft.com email addresses that I can have sprint send the work discount email confirmation to. They may talk up new plans to you, but you can politely refuse and tell them you want to stick with the same plan.
Thank you for the reply. She worked at a daycare and never had an email account so not sure how we can do that but do I have to go through Best Buy or could I go somewhere else? Even a Sprint store to keep my current plan and pay for the new phone upfront after the discount?

you should be able to go anywhere - sprint store, best buy, amazon.com, etc. but you may need to talk to a real person to do the keep the same plan. I have never purchased a phone online from a place like wirefly or amazon yet. Perhaps someone else could chime in on how that works.

I purchased my upgrade from Amazon and was never pressured to change my plan. I could have kept it if I wanted to. I did change to the new "my way" plan however because for my two lines, it was $20 cheaper than my old unlimited data plan which was similar to the OP's.

@op I've been leaning on sprint and tmo the last few days, asking questions, as I'm thinking of finally switching to tmo. That said, if you go to a sprint store , they have the pay monthly plans they're being pushed to sell by corporate. I, too, would prefer to pay a few hundred up front and be done with it....screw increasing my monthly expenses. If you buy online, you don't pay monthly and you keep your plan. Rep told me that even if igo to best buy or target or something, they still have the normal upgrade with contract and without changing plans. They have N5 and HTC One each for only 100, no monthly payment and no plan change.

The only issue with the discount is that if they approve it, part of the clause is another two year contract...as well as that with the new Framily Plan styled contract, the discount is only applied to the data costs of the phone, not the entire plan cost. *smh about that*
So with say a 20% discount and it only being applied to an unlimited plan, you'd save maybe $4-6 a month.
Yeah, but the OP was talking about upgrading and maintaining his current plan, not switching to Framily.
Framily plans may be marginally less expensive than a Family Share plan, but they don't subsidize the cost of upgrade hardware. For about the same cost of a Framily plan over 2 years you can have the standard family plan, discounts net about $20 off instead of 5, and phone upgrades are subsidized. I think he's on the right track.

[Q] Keeping Unlimited Data through Amazon?

Hi, currently Amazon has the HTC One m8 for 149.99$ on Amazon, which is 50$ off normal retail on a 2-year contract. I'm currently on the grandfathered unlimited plan but if I upgrade through Amazon, I have to select one of their plans. Is there any way to keep Unlimited Data? And if I order the phone, would calling AT&T help get my plan back?
I would highly recommend you don't do that. If you choose a different plan, then AT&T probably will NOT let you get it back. So that I don't take any chances, I always upgrade directly in a corporate AT&T store or via the website. And when I'm in the store, I verify with the salesperson that they're not touching my data plan.
I actually just gave up my unlimited data because its so restricted. Could only use data on my phone, couldn't tether without getting a nasty phone call from them saying they were going to add in charges since I was tethering without the plan - thats even after using workarounds on XDA they still caught me ? But yeah if you really don't wanna lose it then go directly into the store and go for it. You can still do AT&T Next with the Unlimited plan if you were interested in that over the 2 year plan also. I had originally done that, but it was too expensive, so I switched to mobile share...sucks since I was unlimited for so long but I found that my average data use was around 2 GB per month anyways strangely. I use lots of Wifi. Anyways, definitely wont let you get it back if you change it.
I think they price match at the store.

Go to bestbuy, they will price match amazon and let you stay on your current plan.
that's what I did. actually I also had the $50 phone upgrade discount option sitting at best buy since last feb as well, so I combined both and got the phone for $100 plus tax.
Thanks everyone! I think I might go with the Best Buy price match option, that way I get the phone on the same day and if there's any problems I can exchange the phone without having to ship and wait days.

Correct, you had to sign up around the Superbowl and essentially "reserve" a $50 gift card.
If you upgrade at a Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile, you can keep your same plan and your unlimited data feature. Their system doesn't force employees to change your plan or its associated features.

So I just went to Best Buy and they said they do NOT price match on contract phones. I kept insisting that other people did it but they gave me a thing and checked online and it said they don't. I have no idea how you were able to but I brought the Amazon paper and everything and they said no.
It seems I'm gonna have to go with Next.
That sucks. Mine was an add-on line to my girlfriends existing account. But they guy didn't seem to care if it was on contract, new line - he was just happy to make the sale. This was at one of the Best Buy Mobile booths in the SF Bay Area.
