I'm already running CM9 (awesome club release), which is great. I'm looking to update to the latest build 1.1.2.
Is it sufficient to wipe dalvik and then install the new zip? I could obviously wipe data as well but I'd rather not if I didn't have to.

Joker says you don't have to. It won't hurt though. After you reboot, I would power off, boot into recovery, and fix permissions. Doing that seems to correct the minor bugs that may arise.

I am currently running KaosFroyo v30 and just recently downloaded v31. Should I wipe my phone before installing the latest version of this ROM?
*Note: it does call for a wipe when installing v17 it reads " **THIS IS A WIPE INSTALL** " does that apply to all ROMs post v17?
Edit: I know I should be asking Kaos himself, but I thought I would ask the community first.
If he doesn't say to wipe in between you don't have to... I personally always wipe the dalvik cache before and after I install a new update even if it's not required.
Well, I did what you advised and everything seems to be working out well. Of course I only just recently updated, so tomorrow and Friday will be test days. One thing i have noticed though us that MMS is till not working....
Like Hungry Man said, you don't HAVE to wipe unless the dev says so, but things always seem to be a lot cleaner when you do wipe.
I always recommend wiping.

I always wipe disk and Dalvik.
Only takes a second.
And with Titanium and what not, you don't even have to do anything.
They're making things too easy for us, lol.
You could flash with out wipe then if you have issues beyond known bugs, wipe and reflash.

If you dont have many programs or apps installed then do a wipe but for me it is a pain in the ass setting it all back up again. So, if it is just an update, then I dont wipe. Sometiimes it leaves scratchy ass, sometimes not
I have always wiped updating to a new ROM, mainly because I didn't know any better. The next update I might update after V31 I might just try a flash and see what happens because I'm impatient when reloading everything LOL.
If it is a new completely different ROM then yes I would wipe.
Installing a new ROM, updating or new, is like talking a shyt. You should probably wipe.

+1 internets. I LOL'd.
most importantly like mom alwayz said , wipe good
Wiping will get rid of all the clingy bits, which isn't always necessary, but I recommend it.

I ended up not wiping (no pun intended) no problems so far. I like some of the little tweaks, but I don't think the track ball lighting is not working

I have a Vibrant that has a KB5 modem, Glitch 1.3.1 Kernel, and CM-7 (2.3.7) stable. After a fresh install of CM7, my bluetooth won't pair (or find for that matter) any devices. I have checked with another phone and the paired to devices work fine. Everything else works great. Good mobile data , wifi, and phone reception. Just the bluetooth doesn't seem to be picking up anything. It is possible I might have restored something from another rom accidentally, but I froze what I thought might be an issue as well as was very careful (or at least I thought I was) on the restores. I also forgot to wipe cache before the install. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave
I'm not familiar with cm7 stable release but I would first start by doing a full wipe clean flash.

Did a full wipe, and cache clean, reinstall of cm7 and back to the kernel that comes with cm7 and the problem still exists.
Hello I have a question about updating the cm10 nightlies. I read somewhere that to update to the newest cm10 nightly you just wipe cache and dalvik. However I tried that and my signal bars and WiFi bars don't turn blue anymore. They stay grey, which I believe means that its broken correct? Has anyone successfully updated cm10 nightly by just wiping cache and dalvik and not have data broken? Thank you
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app
It depends really, the CM10 nightlies recently (late September-ish) went through a major partition layout change, so simply wiping cache and davlik would NOT be good enough, and it requires a full wipe. If you've been on recent nightlies with the new partition layout, then it shouldn't have done that... and I've updated nightlies quite a bit that way with no problems. I suggest backing up your apps and doing a clean wipe to the latest nightly.
I am currently running the 20121022 nightly by the way. which i believe has the new partition layout.
Yeah something probably went wrong during the flash, either try wiping cache and davlik again or just backup your apps and do a clean wipe. I wish I could help further, but I've been on AOKP lately so I'm not sure if it's a problem with the rom itself...
Hmmm strange. My market app would not work after updating. It said app not installed every time i pressed the market. So I reflashed gapps in cwm and all is well now. Thanks for your input though!

Where do i begin?
My phone has these random reboots every day, and random crashes during the weirdest times. Like im sending a text and all of the sudden it just reboots . Im not even running a kernel . I receive double text messages and my battery drains a lot. It's just crazy . Last thing it does is that it likes to be on 3G when 3G doesnt work with me somehow. I have to wait till it shows that 4G or H symbol to get data. anyways I know it's not the ROM cause it happens in every ROM i try. Its not the battery cause I've only had it for like 4 months. What is it? i do a full wipe every time i install a ROM too and Yes I am S-off for those of you who are wondering. Are there any fixes to any of my problems? it really pisses me off.
I would full wipe, reinstall Rom and see what happens. Back- up first!
Ok well i say try the unofficial cm10 latest version if u r on it already re installing with 4ext recovery do a full wipe, cache and dalvik wipe and then flash cm10 and jellybean gapps onto it battery life is better then many others and if not satisfied lower the cpu top speed...

It installs a stock RUU, but with some modifications (changes only the splash screen, recovery, and hboot), but the rest of it is 100% stock
Also, it's an easy way to install the RUU

No your problem was that you were probably never full wiping and that was causing the issues as your phone works perfectly fine after a full wipe (what the stock ruu does) and your battery can go bad after 4 months I went through 2 in 8 months

And the all have the same green leaf for a home screen, so are my ROMS not being written to the right place or what. this is getting confusing. the ROM form about shows the different versions but all are skipping the setup and I have no 3G/LTE connection, only wifi.
Whatever I am doing I seem to be consistent about it

the AOPK had gapps folded in. what is odd is I have now tried AOPK and a CM10 and CM10.1 and they all seem to have the same start screen, come up after the boot like it is already installed, missing any 3G/4G connection. Now I have flashed back to EG01 and run up though iCS several times and it isn't taking the CWM now, says it installs ok but boots into stock recovery. Now I using the older CWM 5504 for the i-905 and it writes somewhere, but apparently not where it should be. I was going to try TWRP but that doens't appear to run on HC/ICS - is it JB only? I have shied away from the newer CWM for a long time because for a while they just seemed to boot-loop the tablet.
Any one have a suggested working version of CWM? This starting from scratch and rolling in all the updates is getting old - which is why I was wondering if there is a way to build my own ODIN set to just flash back to this point without having to go though reroot and install of the recovery (which apparently now I am not able to do - wts! )
Thanks!
Rob (lost) in Katy.
Twrp is compatible with ICS too, if im not mistaken. Go to www.droidbasement.com and download pershoots's version of cwm recovery. That should work just fine. BTW, you did make a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) right? And what's EG01?

Ok, i found another recovery laying around that seems to be working. I also found that the bug where you need to delete the script that deletes the new recovery. Once I got that far things started making sense. I guess whatever mod I was on before didn't need it. The next trick will be trynig to decifer how to do an odin backup so that I don't haver to roll though 4/5 upgrades to get here. I know someone is doing it. thanks for the help and a place to bounce ideas. will update if i come up with anything.
