Looking to hook girls SGS2 to Att's Gophone.
I see after talking with cust service their militant about getting imei # before mailing me the sim crd. (They mailed mine 5 months ago without it.....just told em I had an old GSM Razr.....just tried the same with hers). No go on no imei tho. Told em I'd call back with it today.
Question..I was going to just make up a 15 digit #...given its a 'GSM ' they wont know the difference right?
Are there characteristics of these imei #‘s that tell them what kind of phone it is??
Thanks for any insight.
Holy crap, my brain almost gave out trying to decipher what your asking, use complete sentences and spelling. Anyways, I do not think that it would be a good idea to make up an imei, but than again, there's always a chance it'll work.
Not sure how to get an IMEI of a go phone. If you are desperate, you could go buy a $10-$20 gophone from wal-mart or Best Buy, copy the IMEI, then try to return the gophone.

Even better, just go to an AT&T store and get a prepaid SIM. That would be even faster and cheaper.

English is tough... for some folks... in the US...
They'll know your real imei right after you star using it. Just be honest and they have no idea what kinda phone it is by looking at imei.

Have to have the phone to get the card...that's why I'm having it mailed to me.
Yeah a lot of that is typing on the Epic with the damn keyboard 'correcting ' half of what I write ...then of course me sending without editing!

Honest meaning tell them the actual imei off the new SGS2...but just tell them its a Razr.
Yeah...why not?!
Just confirming that the numbers aren't coded somehow to detect dumb vs smart phones.
Thanks

hi every one
i bought a sgs2 from ebay last week , but somthing wrong with the phone
i can not mske any call or receive calls , and after along search in the net i think that the imei code is blocked.
that means :
1. the phone is stolen
or
2. The owner of the phone said to the company that his phone is stole in order tom cell the old one and they will give him a new one ...
what can i do ?
You did enter a sim card correct? Have you tried another sim card?
If the phone is stolen, contact the seller on ebay about it first. You should be able to get your money back as long as you return the phone. Otherwise, you just have a expensive paper weight.

NO, absolutely not.
IMEI is unique to one specific phone. It is, in fact, illegal for a consumer to change a device IMEI.
So based on your gross mis-interpretation here, you should really go back and try to re-evaluate the conclusions you came to in post #1, and start with the question "why can you not make or receive calls?"
EDIT to add: Did it occur to you that the phone may be SIM locked to a network that isn't yours?

There are far more than only three possible providers that the phone could be locked to.
What country are you in. I know in Australia there is a website that you can use to see if your IMEI is blocked. Just google imei check.

XDA is not allowed to be involved in illegal activities for obvious reasons .
Your claim should be against the seller ebay or pay pal .

If the phone is SIM locked to a different network than the SIM currently inserted, it will come up with a prompt for the unlock code when it boots. The symptom of a SIM lock is not that it won't register on a network.
If the phone is indeed SIM locked it can be fixed by following this guide.
It is also possible to change the IMEI although this is much more difficult and may be illegal in some jurisdictions. There is a range of "TEST" IMEI numbers that mobile phone manufacturers use, these are generally safe to use and work on most networks.
Cheers,
Descore
I currently have a Galaxy S II AT&T and my work is allowing us to use our personal phones to get corporate email.
We are a direct competitor to Samsung so my work does not allow any Samsung phones to join the program.
Is there a way to hide the model of my phone and make it look electronically like a different brand?

I'm no expert, but I think that's against the law. It would involve changing the IMEI, and that's a no-no as far as I've heard.

Because the phone model is reported back to the corporate mail server. Exchange for example, can allow or deny certain phone models based on policy

No, that would be if you were trying to hide it from the carrier. I doubt that the imei is used here. More likely it's a build prop check.

Unless they are willing to provide you phones and service I think that's a pretty unreasonable requirement for a company to have. That would be like a Chrysler worker being told he cannot drive a vehicle from any other manufacturer to work and park in the company lot.
Sounds like it checks in the build prop file. I've never edited the model there so I'm not sure if it would work.

Does it connect to gear manager OK? And also try and connect it to kies to see if it connects. If it does then its legit if not then u prob have bought a fake one...

My software version ends in NJ7, and interestingly, my IMEI SV shows '02' whereas yours shows '01' - so no, I don't think you are running the latest software version if yours is a North American Gear S. If you can't prompt an update via Gear Manager, try connecting it via your computer to Samsung Kies.
For what it's worth, especially with the advent of blacklisting, I wouldn't buy any mobile product off Kijiji unless the seller could produce an original receipt and show his account was in good standing...all of which is more trouble than it's worth...

It occurs to me that if this Gear S did come from the States, it's more than likely carrier-locked (to a U.S. carrier) - unlike the Gear S which are being sold here, all of which are being sold unlocked.

When you say water marks on the face, you mean the numbers?
I suspect they're indicative of it being an engineering sample or some other sort of pre-production unit.
thats one of the international variants R750W, there are a few out there. so far as the watermarks, definitely looks like a demo build.

The Gear Ss being sold here in Canada (at least the one I got from Best Buy) are R750W. Only sold unlocked too, BTW, and currently on sale at best Buy for $350 CAD, or about $300 USD.
