I have syncd with exchange ("corporate') but the thumbnail pictures have not syncd. anyone know why / have or have not got a similar issue?
Same here. Syncing to Exchange 2010, but I get none of my contact photos.
Ed
I'm using Touchdown, no issues with pictures downloading for contacts from Exchange... Must be a native Exchange client issue.

i'm having the same problem with contact thumbnails from my Exchange contacts as well. no issues with my other Android devices, only the Atrix4G. it must be a MotoBlah issue...
Ditto and very disappointing.

this is not a solution for the contact pic sync issue, it's more an option. i stumbled across an app called Enhanced Email 1.16.2 that allows you to sync multiple exchange accounts, integrates into the stock calendar and contacts apps and it also synced my contact pics as well. the app also uses the volume key to increase/decrease font size in the emails. i had to shell out $10 bucks, but that investment is making my Atrix experience a little better and the contact pic sync issue is behind me. other features of the email app i like: it gives you the option to use the Exchange Pin. i said no and am using pattern lock instead.
EDIT: i did notice a (minor to me) bug; not all of my contacts birthdays were synced.

Fantastic tip. It was well worth the $10. It's kind of ironic my old hacked up HTC HD2 with WinMo wiped and Android running off the SD card had better email than the Atrix.
I'm looking forward to an update that improves email and fixes the slow internet speeds.

umm, idk about you guys, but i have two exchange accounts synced off the stock rom.
my bigger issue is the lack of pictures.

can you post the URL for where I can find this. thanks
BTW anyone know how I can reverse black and white in emails? I dont like white on black (Sense is black on white which I find easier to read)

yep. knew this as well. 2 things i miss with the stock email app (compared to the HTC Sense email app) is the ability to increase font size in email and the "hack" to disable the Exchange Pin requirements. and then there's the picture issue.

I am having problems with the pictures not syncing too. We are also on Exchange 2010. Is everyone else using 2010, or are all versions of Exchange having problems. I only ask because when I decided to check the Motoblur info it only mentioned supporting Exchange 2003 and 2007, which I thought was odd.
This is also my first Motorola (in a long while), but after doing some quick research via Google, I see a lot of people complaining about the same thing from as much as a year ago on other Moto phones. Despite being nice hardware, I'm really irritated with the Motorola "experience" after coming off of my Captivate on Cognition.

No, the problem of contact pictures not being synchronized affects Motoblur talking to Exchange 2007 servers (like mine) as well.
I heartily second the disappointment in the email. For Exchange users Motoblur is a FAR WORSE experience than directly syncing with Android's built in utilities. I really miss the email on my Captivate... but that is the only thing I miss.

You miss Exchange on Captivate? - I can't imagine why -
I couldn't see my read messages, I couldn't edit appointments i created, I could not mark messages as read in bulk. Worst of all was the lag - even with Voodoo lagfix if i attempted to delete 5 messages it took forever. No GAL access or it was for email address only. No subfolder sync support either. So the Atrix is missing picture sync, that i can deal with. I can't search the server, but again, a minor issue for me.

From the reading that I did a few weeks back, it's a long-standing issue with the MotoBlur Exchange synchronization. HTC's Exchange synchronization does contact pictures, Motorola's doesn't.
We are using Exchange 2008 and my contact pictures also do not sync. This is a Huge thing for me.
Updated to 87, but no change in this feature. I was hoping this was a small thing that would be included when moving to 2.2.2. Looks like have to hold out hope until 2.3....
so I downloaded ENHANCED EMAIL, which IMHO has a better email handling program , but uses all the other stock programs for Contacts, Diary etc. it DOES SYNC pictures!
You need to remove your blur exchange account otherewise you get duplicates.
Enhanced email is easier to read, faster and just better IMHO
Hello, the Atrix has just been released in France and I'm fcacing the same problems : not possible to sync in Motoblur my contacts and Pictures of contacts.
Another big trouble, I'm not able to sort the contacts by Last Name/First Name : only First Name/Last Name.
It's a pitty as many other smartphones propose that (Samsung Galaxy S2,...)

Hey Guys
Just joined the android bunch when the wife got me a new Xperia X10 for my b'day/anniversary. Its awesome and i'am loving every bit of it especially the personalization part of it.
However coming from the iPhone I have a few queries and would be great if someone could help me with it. Have searched the forums and haven't really got any useful info of it (mind you i could have terrible searching skill, btw did anyone see my keys??)
I have two mail id's like most people. One is my personal gmail id and the other is my corporate mail id. I have configured them both onto my phone and I'am indeed recieving all mails without a glitch. Unfortunately I don't have an option of sorts to configure my office calendar to sync with the native app. The calendar option does not exist for the second mail option(The option to sync my personal gmail calendar exists and is working fine).
However while using the iphone3g previously I was able to simultaneously use both the calendars (gmail & corporate) and an update on either of the two calendars from my desktop would show on the calendar.
Question1
Is it possible to have a similar system on the android as well. The backend for my corporate mail is provided by gmail and so is the calendar and everything in it. Someone suggested elsewhere that i could share the calendar to my personal mail and i could use it that way. Unfortunately it not enabled for me and the only option for sharing lets my personal account to see if I'm free or engaged at any time. This would be of very limited use to me.
Question 2
Whenever i receive a mail with a calendar invite on the corporate id, the mail appears empty with a small attachment. Using the preview option on the mail app displays text based data that pretty much random stuff overlaid on the meeting name etc(i guess this is the program info or something). Is there anyway if and when i receive an invite i would be able to add them to my calendar or refuse it right-away etc..
These two queries are the biggest of my worries as of now on the otherwise enjoyable experience. I'm terrible sorry for the long post but thought I'd give as much info as possible.
Thanks for your time and help!!
Cheers!!
PS: Some background info, Phone: Xperia X10i, Firmware 2.1-Update1(India), unrooted, baseband 2.1.54. If there is any other app that would help me do the same(Paid or Free), it would be awesome.
Hi there,
I use my phone in a similar way, I have 4 accounts in my gmail app. 3 corporate and 1 personal. If I can remember back to 2.1 (eclair) you can only have 1 gmail account in that app. Then you have to use the mail app for up to 5 more (not sure about moxier mail, I never used it).
Basically what your best doing is rooting the phone to get it up to 2.2 (froyo) that way use have much more control over what sync's from each account. I would recommend tripnraver's froyo. He has a new 1.2.0 coming tonight. You do have to put up with some minor bugs, but the benefits far out weigh the negatives.
A lot also depends on what type of email accounts they are. Either way froyo is way better for your needs.
If you don't wish to dabble with your new present, wait a few months when sony bring out 2.3.4 gingerbread!
I have had a few close shaves, while flashing my phone but approx 10 roms later, I'm pretty sure it's hard to brick it. Worst case restore it back using the sony software.
Hope that helps.

I've set up hotmail as an Exchange Activesync account in the HTC Mail app. Contacts and calendar sync fine, but mail is a different story...
The mail gets downloaded to the flyer, I can view/edit/respond to those mails. But when I delete them, they reappear in the next sync, every time. I've fiddled with all the sync settings but no joy. Anyone else having hotmail issues?

I've only had the flyer a few days, a SE Asia version. I love the size, the hardware. My previous tablet was an iPad, and this is my first Android device. Previously was a longtime user of WinMo, then had an iPhone briefly before switching to WP7. Back in the day, Android didn't seem to play nicely with corporate exchange email so I never bothered.
I figured that in fairness I should try Android...and it is the polar opposite of iOS. It seems you can do anything...but the payoff is that doing it may not be obvious! Of course I love the flexibility and openess, but even for a geek it definately isn't straightforward. Then, I don't know how much of my experience is Sense and how much is Android. I am glad to be iTunes free, at least.
Obviously, it is an over-size phone when it comes to apps, but none of the phone advantages, like phone calls. Roll on Honeycomb! Pretty gobsmacked there isn't skype video chat available, given the prolific FFC devices running android.
So far, I can accomplish anything I have wanted to do (except delete email and skype video calls), but somehow it doesn't seem very neat or slick. Everything feels like a tacked-on afterthought. Maybe I will grow to love it, as I am not going back to iOS...maybe Win8 will do what I need...
I had this problem with the shift I think, it was all about the route you use to set it up. Under accounts & sync you choose mail instead of ActiveSync or something.
Go into your sync settings and change it to sync today only.
Anyone noticed that the Note features SMS Sync with Exchange 2010? Haven't used a Samsung Android phone before so wasn't sure if this was just a standard Samsung thing or specific to the Note but it's overall really nice. I thought this was something only available if you used Windows Mobile 6.5, but it's working great on my Note.
Anyways, just noticed it and thought it was kind of cool. Wasn't sure if anyone else had seen it as well. Here's the Guide if you're interested in learning more about it - http://help.outlook.com/en-us/beta/910552b1-c99c-4046-8bbc-9d2e8dbcbfda.aspx
Yep, this is the first Android handset I've had that does it. Nice to see Android starting to make inroads into the more advanced features of Exchange. The Note also syncs tasks, too, which is also a first for me (for Android - of course WM6.5 had these features years ago IIRC). Now if the Note could sync notes, it would be nirvana (and a pun). And if S-memo were somehow integrated with exchange notes so that your s-memos were synced with Exchange and viewable in Outlook and OWA...there are serious places Google could take this if they felt like it.

My god, the thought of this just makes me want to hurry up and deploy 2010. Screw public folders!
(we are still in test on SP 2010)
HTC started working in syncing Exchange tasks in Sense 3.0 or 3.5 as well. I can never remember which version is which.
SGS2 already syncs tasks. But I have no Exchange 2010 to test with. So not sure if SMS is supported on SGS2.
on the epic touch 4g on sprint which is there sgs2 i never had sms sync.
I've had the feature since I put the vanilla Samsung 2.3 ROM on my original AT&T GTab. I always turn it off. It was cool to see an SMS in Outlook but the sender was listed as the phone number and I couldn't reply to the SMS from Outlook. If you can reply to the SMS with Outlook with your server, then the feature is more useful.
you need exchange 2010 to do that. 2007 will let you recieve them.
Hi, I'm new here. I'm using a HTC HD2 with WM6.5 (and Office 365) and have no experience with Android. SMS sync is the main reason why I'm still on WM6.5. But the phone has been giving me problems and I've been seriously looking at alternatives. Was looking at the HTC One X plus Touchdown (exchange Activesync client app) but learnt that TD still has bugs for SMS sync.
Was very excited when I saw this thread. So I gather the Galaxy Note has it's own Samsung stock EAS client which allows SMS sync? Does it work well i.e. all texts sent and received on your phone syncs up to OWA and Outlook and vice versa? What about the Galaxy S II?
Would really appreciate your sharing your experience with this. Thanks.

Have you tried cruising the android market? I doubt that samsung is the first to have actually done this.
just a quick search of the market found this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitrodesk.touchdownpro&feature=search_result
not sure if it would work for you, but it's a place to start. With that being said you could essentially find ANY android phone you want, but the note is still the best
touchdown will do it but one of the issues is if the carrier supports the feature. at&t just happens to support this. the sgs2 international had this functionality as well. i found this out from another person in the company i work for.
Hey guys, thanks for the reply. Yes from what I've read, Touchdown seems to be the best option out there - far ahead the competition. Plus not only do they sync the usual stuff (email, contacts, calendar, tasks), they apparently also sync notes and SMS. A godsend for me...just like WM6.1/5! I dug further and even joined the forums in Touchdown but then found out there were still bugs with SMS sync and others. So I held back. And I found this thread. I've been scouring the net just to figure out what people's experience are with each but nothing is clear. As it stands, it just appears I have 2 options:
1) Get Touchdown (full featured EAS) and hope they fix the bugs, get a newer ICS phone
or
2) Get a SGS2 or SG Note (assuming the SMS sync works well), forego the notes sync.
Or maybe wait for SGS3 and hope the SMS sync feature is carried over?
sms sync works with stock email client
anyone able to use this to SEND sms? outlook 2010 supports the feature, and the message gets as far as the outbox on the note, but for some reason, goes to the email outbox, and not the sms box.
Also - if you have any alerts configured SMS sync screws that up. I had a rule that would send me a TXT message whenever my SQL server sent an email with high importance (aka a failed job). Exchange wont do that, becasue SMS sync is on.

You can still have public folders in 2010 and theyre easy to migrate. The SMS sync is delayed (I dont use it, I use google voice) but fine.
Yeah you CAN have Public Folders, but since we just invested in a large SP2010 farm I don't WANT public folders.

I've got to ask... how is it working great? I bought a note, set up SMS Sync (on both the stock GB and the stock ICS), and neither was usable. Sure, I could send SMS from outlook fine, but:
Sent SMS did not get displayed on the phone in the email client, or the SMS client
Received SMS displayed in the email client but do not show who they are from
Received SMS in the email client can not be replied to
SMS sent via the SMS client on the phone do not display in the email client on the phone, and do not get synced to Exchange
I could go on... but basically, it wasn't usable. How did you find it?
For what it's worth, I tried Nitrodesk's thing and it wasn't any better. I have a strong suspicion Samsung may have bought it to integrate into their phones actually, as it had the same bugs.

I just bought a Samsung S3 and my experience with the native Activesync and Exchange 2010 is ok but far from great. Here's what I am experiencing:
1) The native Activesync is not matching the contact name in the Activesync Contacts with the incoming SMS message. So, when I am looking at the SMS message in the Android "MESSAGES" icon/app, I DO see a matched 'friendly' name. But, when it gets sent to Exchange via Activesync it drops the friendly name. So, in the Android EMAIL icon/app, I only see the sending phone number.
2) When I'm using the full Outlook client at a computer, I see the TXT message come in and with the full Outlook client it only shows the sender as the 'phone number' and no matching occurs there as well. I think the root cause is no matching at the phone, so it's a pass-through here.
3) When I reply to one of the SMS messages with the full Outlook client at a computer, replyabilility does work and it puts the sending phone number in the TO: field and still no matching.
4) FAIL: In OWA (Exchange 2010) there is NO replyability with the SMS message. You can select REPLY but it does not automatically fill/paste in the destination TO: and you have to manually enter it. This lack of replyability is only with OWA, but the full client.
5) Performance, is fine, messages fly great and instantly.
This is my first Android exerience. I came from a Windows Mobile phone, and I chose the Android function over the iPhone because the iPhone does not support SMS Sync. My phone is stock, no apps added except Facebook. I did try to load Touchdown but I could not get all the functions to work. All that was sync'ing was email, no contacts/SMS/Notes/Calendar....etc. I did not spend more than 10 minutes troubleshooting so I abandoned efforts.
My phone is running 4.0.4, Kernel 3.0.8- 1092717
I promptly disabled my SMS sync. I don't need all my personal text messages flowing through my employer's line of sight. Not saying I have anything to hide, but they just don't need it.

Right guys, I've been told you're the boys and girls to go to to sort Android stuff out, so, here I am with a few q's please.
I started another thread about sync'ing MobileMe with Android and after more research it does seem possible - albeit with 3rd party software.
BUT it won't be possible to Push MobileMe emails, iCal and Contact updates.
Has anyone one here found a workaround for this? (other than me setting up a GMail account )
I want to move away from most things Apple - but due to work reasons need my Mac Pro and my MobileMe account. But a One X or S3 would be much better than an iPhone for me
Sorry guys for the slight bump, but does the silence mean Push is not possible for MobileMe?
Isnt that for apple?

It is, but I have a MobileMe email account, which I really can't afford to lose. Therefore I need to be able to use my Mail, iCal and Contacts with Android.
If it's not possible, I'll unfortunately have to stick with my iPhone... or go through the painful and risky task of changing my email to Gmail!

Yes you can.. I also use Mobileme with my HTC Sensation 4G.
You can download K-9 mail and set your MobileMe account using Push email.
Also you can sync your Gmail Calendar and Contacts with your MAC... just make sure you set your calendar/contacts preferences to sync Gmail... you have an option in each app to check... type your gmail account and that's it!!
