Hey guys just a quick question about entering Recovery Mode on the I717. Since it does not have a home button rather a touch screen button. How would I enter recovery mode to apply the Kernel which I'm trying to install (Abyssnote 4.0). I know others have been successful in overclocking this model and would appreciate any help as to the steps they followed.
Thanks alot.
yeahhhh I wouldnt do that if I were you. That kernel is made for the international version of the note which has entirely different hardware. Probably no chance in that working for the i717
Thanks for the info.
Is there one you would recommend for the i717 that would enable me to overclock?

Hello,
I just received my new Galaxy Tab 10.1 (32gb, grey, from Amazon.com) and I really like it, the only thing which annoys me is, that it's locked what I really dislike.
Now my question is: Is it possible that my locked Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be unlockable sometimes or is this impossible to do?
I'm hoping for some great devs that could help here.
Edit: I'm talking about the locked bootloader I have, not about root.
search/browse android development forum, for "Flash CWM recovery to locked tab with ODIN" before starting new threads unnecessarily.
Thanks for the reply, but I looked already for nearly everything in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 forum.
Even with CWM recovery I won't be able to overclock my tablet, right? - That's what I want to do with it. And for that, it needs to be unlocked.
So, CWM recovery is kinda useless for me, and sadly, not an option.
Umm im noob here but even i think your NOT SAYNG SENSICAL THINGS? Please check the bonsai or pershot kernel? Anywhere it says you cant flash it locked?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
locked bootloaders means no access to recovery mode hence no rom flashing, but as in my posted link recovery mode in locked bootloaders is achievable hence one can easily flash ROMS, and kernels!
I'm really sorry for my unknowledge. It worked fine, thanks for all the replies.
Mine GT 10.1 Locked worked with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150732
After odin, I installed CWM from market...
Rooted then used Bonsai's ROM... Now I'm back to 3.1 with everything working.
2 questions:
First, does anyone have a stock cwm image for the Tmobile US version of the galaxy tab 10.1 that can post it or link in pm?
Second, why is there so little development happening for the Tmobile variant of this awesome device? Seems like cyanogen mod 9 is the only thing that this version will get. I'll gladly test Roms if that is what the devs need.
Can I post a rom in the Dev section for the Korean Note?
Gingerbread 2.3.6 Pre-Rooted
Port of the original I717 Gingerbread rom but customized
English Language Support
1: Download rom and Odin from the bottom of this post
2: Run Odin
3: Click PDA and select the TAR file
4: Hold down the volume - key and home key and press the power button until the coal mining mode screen appears then press the volume + button to enter the coal mining mode
5: Connect the phone to your computer click start to begin
I did not create this but spent a lot of time testing it. Before anyone says anything about this not being in the Dev section I figured this would be the right place to put it since the rom is not for the Galaxy Note I717 so I am hoping it is in the right place, but if it needs moved I am sorry. I only posted here so I wouldn't have to start a new post in another section since I was already asking a question about where to post this rom at in this thread. I know its not an ICS rom, but its a start. Use at your own risk I am not responsible for your device bricking. It worked well for me so hopefully you will not have any problems either. Also I uploaded it to 4shared.com only but if you want to re-upload it to another site post the link and I will put it in this post. I understand that there are at least 3 variations of the Korean Note.
SHV-e160S and L and another version. Each one is linked to a different carrier.
To the OP: which version of the Korean note did you cook this ROM for and will it work across all Korean models?
Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I was able to root my Galaxy Note SHV-E160s. I know it is rooted because I can run apps that needs root access. Many Thanks to Tegrak who made this possible. Now the only thing missing is a CUSTOM ROM. Before, they said that it is impossible to upgrade the HTC BlueAngel to Windows 6.5, but it was a success and now an old friend on mine (D-TWO) was able to make android work on it. Before, they said that HTC HD2 can not be upgraded to Android but lookwhere it is right now. Running on ICS and beta JB. Galaxy Note SHV-e160s, is not far from it. If more people will request here, developers will listen. Please let's make this happen.
I want to share how I was able to root my Note (SHV E160s) successfully. All credits goest to Tegrak.

First I downloaded these files
>Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar
>Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.zip
>SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
>SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe
>Odin3_v1.85_intratech.zip
>TEGRAK app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...WsubGFnZml4Il0.
The Build number of my Note is SHV_E160s_FA09, that's the reason why I'm gonna use the files mentioned above.
1. Installed TEGRAK APP. (look in Google Play)
2. Save Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.zip on my phone. Should be in internal memory /sdcard/tegrak/update folder
3. Save the file Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar in my laptop
4. Installed Samsung USB Drivers
5. run ODIN
6. Turned off the phone and went to download mode (hold power + home button + volume down key)
7. Connected the phone to my laptop
8. Once Odin detected the phone I clicked on PDA and searched for Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar
NOTE: Do not tick on anything, just leave everything the way it is.
9. Click on start....wait....wait...it will tell you when it's done and you phone will automatically boot itself
10. Turn off the phone again.
11. Go to recovery mode (power button + BOTH volume keys0 and once you see the SAMSUNG name, unhold the power button while holding BOTH volume keys. And you will have the recovery mode. You will have two options, select the second one where it says install from ZIP and look for Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.recovery.tar and flash it. Once done, it will reboot your phone.
12. Go to your apps and run Tegrak Kernel App. Tap on Enable rooting. And will then give you a message where it says "Success! done."
Your Samsung Galaxy Note SHV-E160s is now ROOTED.
Try it, run some apps that needs root access.
Now, let's look for a custom ROM!

I was able to root my e160s as well and upgraded it to ICS using tegrak's files (UG06). one last problem i have though is the 80 character limit on sms. Ive tried the workaround from the link below but sadly it doesn't work for ICS (sms workaround working for FA09) any idea how it can be fixed? Thanks!

Good find. My issue with the 80 character SMS is now fix. I just inserted the micro sim to my friends iPhone and edited the "My Phone Number" from there and walaaaaa! Handcent SMS is not working with unlimited SMS characters!
I did install the koxda ROM, its GB, but it doesn't include google.play and wasn't able to run it. (Chinese doesn't need it, they have their own markets). SMS was working perfect on it.
I later installed ICS stock and worked the sms/mms fix, + handcent and myphone number adjustment... this gives you perfect incoming SMS... but SMS sending is limited to 80 characters. I haven't been able to work network Video Calls - even though the phone menu showing the feature. Then again you've got a rooted ICS working otherwise perfect.
@phonephoenix : 3G is working perfect, but you have to add your network detail manually at, w/ mobile networks > mobile netowrks > (add) ACCESS POINT

Did you installed ICS via Kies or Odin?

To start off this post, I am very sorry if this has already been posted/answered on here. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find it.
Okay, onto the question. I recently installed ROM Manager on my Galaxy Player 5.0 (YP-G70) It has the touch sensitive buttons on the bottom, not a physical button, if that helps clarify which device I have at all. Anyway, when I go into Rom manager to Flash clockwork recovery, It asks me to confirm the phone model. I get a list with these phones (and this is all of them)...
Galaxy Tab - ATT
Samsung Charge
Samsung Epic4G
Samsung Galaxy S 4G
Samsung Galaxy Tab (T-Mobile)
Samsung Galaxy Tab (VZW)
Samsung GalaxyS Captivate
Samsung GalaxyS Fascinate
Samsung GalaxyS Vibrant
Samsung GalaxyS i9000
Samsung Indulge 910
Samsung Indulge 915
Samsung Sidekick 4G
Obviously, Samsung galaxy player is not on this list. I don't know which one to choose. I know I have seen other Galaxy Player 5.0 users (on youtube tutorials etc...) with the same player I have, and I have made sure that Rom Manager is updated in case there were updates including my version, but it turned out that I was already up-to-date.
If you can help me out in any way, thank you.

First off, you have the USA model (with all capacitive [light up] buttons). To my knowledge, there is no support for the Galaxy Player (any model) in the ROM Manager app. I am not sure what YouTube videos you are referring to, and I am equally unsure of what they would have been talking about in those videos. The only way I can think of that you could tweak the device to make ROM Manager compatible is to change the device ID in the build.prop file in system root. And, I am not sure if that is OK to do, or not.
Sorry I could not give you a more definitive answer on that front.
As for CWM recovery, you have to use the software, ODIN to flash a device-compatible kernel which has CWM recovery built into it. There is a kernel (or 2) for the USA Galaxy Player 5.0 that has CWM recovery built in. You have to use ODIN to flash it on your device.
If you don't know anything about this procedure there are lots of good threads in the development section with thorough explanations on ODIN and flashing ROMs and kernels to your device.
Good luck.
Put the player in download mode (back+volume down+power). Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840 and start odin, click the pda button and choose the file and connect your phone and press start, flashing the kernel will take approx. 5 seconds and your phone will reboot automatically.

NEVER USE ROM MANAGER! IT WILL BRICK YOU. Ok, now that that's settled, the previous poster is correct, you need Entropy512's kernel, as CWM is part of the kernel for this device. The instructions above will work for the ".tar" file (the oldest release), or you can do it any of the other ways listed in that thread.
So here's the deal, i have a Japanese S3 aka S3alpha aka SC-03E. The difference of this phone and all the other S3 out there is that this one has the same specs at the Note 2; 2gb ram, Exynos 4412 Quad [email protected], and LTE (similar to the I9305 but not). The only ROM out there for this phone is Cm10.1, i;m pretty happy with it but not as happy as i would be if i had Paranoid Android. NOw, i'm a noob and all, but i've been trying to port the latest PA ROM from a I9305 using this guide right
here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008
It seems fairly easy, so i gave it a try using the CM10.1 rom as base. however, i'm stuck at a bootloop and i don't even know where to begin. so i have some questions, pardon my noob terminology,;
would i be better off trying to port a note 2 ROM? (since it has the same hardware, except s-pen and huge screen)
i read in some forums that it is best to use a ROM which the device contains the same cpu as yours,
i've never actually tried it but what would happen if i just went ahead and flashed a i9305 ROM?
is it better to use CM10.1 or my stock ROM as base ROM?
any help would be appreciated, the only support for my phone is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172063
I got it figured out, if anyone needs help head over to the [OFFICIAL] Japanese SGS III (SC-03E) Rooting, ROMs, Kernels & Guides thread
