[Q] ICS vibration issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have problems with their apps triggering vibrations? Phone calls trigger vibrations but the volume is low. Messaging and whatsappp sound alright but don't trigger vibrations even though the settings are fine. I've tried pureics, omega and resurrection roms- all have the same issue.

The Vibration issue is based on the Kernel used ..
Check the repective Threads FAQ's or some update packages for the Fix..
Downloading Sound Manger from the Market and Setting up vibration thro' that also works sometimes..

Thanks so much! Sound Manager worked like a charm! Switching kernels didn't help btw

Is your samsung vibrant not vibrating when it should??

If your Vibrant has been acting up recently, not vibrating for SMS/Emails, or just plain not vibrating at all - I may have found a fix that doesn't require a HARD RESET.
I searched and searched the Vibrant forums as this morning, I was having a MAJOR problem as far as my vibrations not working for my SMS or GMail. I changed NOTHING - I installed NO APPS, yet for some reason this morning, i stopped getting vibrations.
Just wanted to let you guys know my phone was set up for perfect notifications, with vibration checked in EACH individual program, and overall vibration checked for notifications and ringtones. Vibrate for SMS wasn't working for silent / vibrate / or ringer mode.
I saw that this may be an unresolved issue, and found a few posts on other forums addressing the issue.
Go to Market
Download "Sound Manager"
Run it
Press menu
Vibrate settings
make sure under BOTH ringer and notification vibrate, you have "VIBRATE WHENEVER POSSIBLE" checked.
This fixed all of my vibration problems, now it's super vibratey again lol.
Hope this helps, saw a few of you had still unanswered posts regarding loss of vibration.
Thanks for the tip!
I've been screwing around with my settings all morning trying to figure out why the hell my phone vibrations were not working correctly. A search on this forum led me to this post.
Followed your instructions and problem solved. Thanks a bunch.
Is their actually a place in the stock settings where you can select vibration alerts for incoming text messages and email messages?
For SMS, go into the main Messaging screen (where it shows the seperate threads for each contact) and hit the menu key. Then go to settings. The last option is for vibration.

Ah, never looked at the menu before. Thanks!
Awesome worked for me. Thanks
There's also an app called "Quick Settings" that fixes the vibration for this phone.

The GMail app also has the vibrate option.
fixed and no need to keep the sound manager installed if not wanted
Fixed my problem here, Galaxy S Vibrant. I recall downloading sound manager a week or so ago and uninstalled the same day. Was pleased to find that reinstalling, leaving the may vibrate whenever button checked, and uninstalling the program lead to good vibrations. plz 4give me This site has been a great resource, TY all
lol i just rebooted my phone...
So i have set vibrate whenever possible checked for both options and have checked vibrate on the menu>settings and sms>menu>settings etc. But it still doesnt vibrate when i received texts or called in vibrate mode. when i adjust volume on the side, it doesnt vibrate when i turn it down to the vibrate setting. also, haptic doesnt work. could my vibrating mechanism be broken or something? or is it a software problem?
I use my phone as a vibrator.

[Q] Notifications NOT VIBRATING?!

I've googled everything. Can't seem to find a viable solution.
I'm running ICS XXLPB (not rooted) and the only thing that basically vibrates while on normal mode (silent mode vibrations do work fine) are incoming calls. No type of notifications seem to vibrate.
I've checked in-app settings and sound settings and everything seems to be set correctly, but for some odd reason the phone doesn't vibrate on notifications and it's very annoying :'(
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!

To get vibration when you receive a message, you have to set 'vibrate always' in message settings
Thank me if I helped

I'm on the S II (T989) as well running ICS 4.0.3 and I've had the same annoying problem. Interesting that you don't see the question being asked or information on it in too many places. I factory reset my phone before I found this answer. Installed SoundManager V2 and immediately the vibration mode for notifications was available and now works.
Hard to believe such a core feature problem wouldn't have been fixed in a firmware update?!
Next step is that I'm going to root it and go to Cyanogen Mod!!! Can't wait!!!
Appreciate the post!:good:

Probably you have a case or somehow are pressing the volume all the way down.
Remember either lowering the volume or power button plus silent mode are the quick shortcuts to enable Vibration mode.
Also when a call is received and the phone is upside down can make the ringing on mute.

In my case Timeriffic was automatically reinstalled from Google Play. the default setting was to set the phone to vibrate at 8PM Mon - Thu. All sorted now.

i had the same problem, you can activate or deactivate this option under settings/sound/automatic feedback
Hmm,
Can't seem to find that seting on my phone, so will have to hope that it was because of Timeriffic.

I know this is an old thread, but all of a sudden my phone seems to randomly switch sound on throughout the day, after i put it on vibrate. I wonder if there's a way to enable vibrate only via the notification bar, rather than the volume keys.
In my opinion the volume keys should only control the current volume, rather than the sound "profile" (mute, sound, vibrate).
Anyway i will be doing some looking into why this seems to happen.
1) you have a case which is pressing the Volume button down
2) Try turning off AUTO HAPTIC FEEDBACK
3) try resetting your phone if all else fails

i have same weird vibrating problems also. I normally set my phone to sound mode no vibrate. whenever someone text me it automatically change the mode to sound+vibrate I've been trying anything but to no avail this still persists.
and BTW I'm using GO SMS.
Even i have been facing this problem with various ROMs..what could be the issue? any help?
S3 auto turns to Vibrate mode
Hi,
For last 2 weeks, i am facing a same problem. randomly few times in a day, message default ring tone rang without any message and after a while (may be after few seconds) it turns to Vibrate.
the only thing new happened to my phone is, its board died all of a sudden (bgr[dot]com/2012/12/21/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-hardware-failure-262887/) and the Samsung service center has replaced it with new board. since then i am facing this problem.
I was using the Nova launcher before the repair, and now after the repair using the same Nova launcher.
Any idea? anyone else facing the same issue? btw, i have turned off the haptic feedback as well, restart the phone also, but issue still persists.
any feedback would be highly appreciated, thanks.

Guys, I am facing similar problem and nothing else is working. I think we should compare notes to find out what is the cause of this problem. Tell me what ROM are you running? Custom or Stock. If custom then which one? What 3rd Party apps are you running that can schedule tasks e.g Tasker, Scheduler etc. Have you turned off Haptic feedback and motion under your phone settings?
My Answers:
Custom ROM Yes
Ripper ROM (Love it and big fan)
Haptic Feedback Off
Motion Feature Disabled
3rd Party Apps Yes
Tasker Yes
Scheduler No
Call recording Yes
I have sam problem with NOTE 2.
Every last incoming call set my "default" sound profil .Depend what I have set ( sound, vibration, mute....) at the incoming call moment.
I found out that AVG antivirus is a problem???? I delete AVG and for now ( two days ) all is OK.
Maybe its the auto mute
There is a feature under motion that puts the phone in vibrate/silent when you "turn it down", maybe that is what is causing you problems? My phone was muting itself with no logical reason and deactivating it did the trick, hope it works for you

SGS3 on Silent, still playing a sound?

This might seem like a silly question...
However:
On my S1, when I hit silent or vibration only, when an email arrives, the S1 doesn't make a noise (or vibrates) ie. the notification (like Haze) doesn't play.
yet on the S3, no matter what I do, be it on silent, vibration or what not, the sound STILL plays.
Am I becoming crazy or did samsung just overlook an important bug?
-Chris
Did you check all the volume levels?
(Hit the button on the right side when you turn up / down the volume),
I've noticed that (At least in TouchWiz), the media and notification volumes don't always get lowered when you put it on silent.
Also check "System Settings -> Sound" to see if there's anything that would indicate that it should play a sound while in silent mode.
Confirmed, put phone on silent. Started a video, there was sound.
This sucks.

Hit the settings button that pops on the screen on the right of the volume level shown when you press the volume buttons.. change your media and notification levels from there...

Okay, but if you put the phone on silent it should be SILENT

that's not the point of the button that you press for silent.
Or else what would be the point of the button, when i have to manually do it myself?
I'll log this and get back to you.
I don't know about you, but that seems normal, coming from ICS from SGS2 and iPhone, silent means alerts/notifications is off. But when you play Music or Youtube or Videos will play the sound, if you're actively trying to play media then it makes sense to play sound.
Android has always (except for a brief spell) had separate volumes for ringers, media and alarms

that is normal.
But when a SMS is received, on an s2, and you have it on SILENT what happens?
Does the notification sound still play?
As on the S1...and pretty much any phone dating back to the 3310, it remains SILENT
I've noticed this issue also. Silent mode doesn't mute the notification volume as it should. The temporary work around is to set volume manually, but it seems it is a bug in the Touchwiz UX framework.
I for one can't wait until I get either stock ICS or CM9 (maybe JB or CM10 soon if we're lucky, the source was recently released). These little issues are resolved very quickly in a community developed ROM (less than a week in most cases). There is usually a wait of months for OTA updates.
I just pray that AdamOutler can crack the verizon GS3 bootloader to allow easy customization. The International, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint users have unlocked/unsigned bootloaders.
Grab audio manager on google play
Then you set the mute profile for all the sounds you want (ringtone, notifications, player,...) and then you add the widget to your homescreen
When you want to mute, just "click" on the widget, got to the profile tab and then select your mute profile

What firmware would that be, out of curiosity? I'm running XXLFB based ROM and it's still not fixed, been driving me insane.
Not sure this helps if you've already got it fixed but I've been using RealSilent ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.geekherd.realsilent ) as recommended by Jerry over at AC. Pretty handy, but not sure how it works with the stock silent toggle in the notification pull down.
It does however work perfectly with CM9.

Isn't that app for the media volume, not notification?
I thought CM9 came with an option to link notification volume with ringer, so that notification on silent is no longer an issue purely because of that.
Maybe I will try a LG1 based ROM... can't believe Samsung overlooked something so basic.

After trying about 5 different apps including volume +, finally found a straightforward workaround, use the app called simple sound profile widget:
I can't post links yet since I'm under 10 posts, so search for it on Google play.
Really the issue is that Samsung unlinked notification and ringer, but left vibrate and silent toggle alone, so all it does is mute the ringer and not the notification. You'll notice on silent or vibrate, go to system volume and ringer volume still stays the same but shows a mute icon, while notifications volume does not. To fix this you need an app that, when toggling profiles, does not assume ringer and notifications are linked, and also TURNS DOWN VOLUME TO ZERO for both notification and ringer, as I don't believe mute for notifications is working. Simple sound does exactly that, the only thing missing is a true toggle widget since you have to click the widget then select a profile, but it fixed the notification issue properly so I'm not complaining.

[Q] Music volume gets lowered when a notification happens, fixed if volume is changed

So I'm currently on RR 2.6.1 with siyah 3.4.1 and pretty much everything works perfectly. There is this one problem I have though. If I'm listening to music and get a notification, the notification plays just fine, but after it has finished playing, the music is very quiet. It will also stay this way until I change the volume via the hard buttons, and actually jumps instantly back to what it was before the notification.
I was also unable to find a solution by search, supposedly I just couldn't come up with the correct search terms. So, anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?
+1 i have the exact same rom and kernel and i hate when that happens, also i would love if someone told me how to lower the timeout for the volume notification, like, when you change volume and you are seeing a vid on youtube, the volume pop-up takes a while to dissapear and i dont like that
Yes, I've been looking for the same answer but nothing so far. I've got the same problem that after another apps notification the music volume stays down. I'm running the Slim ICS 4.2 with Siyah 3.0.15. I tried to "unlink" the volumes in the volume option but didn't work.
Help us!
I think it's CM9 issue and since AOKP and Slim Roms are based on it, then you guys will have the same issues.
