Hello,
I use to be able to tether my RAZR via USB/Wifi, but lately I have not been able to. I cant recall wich one started going first, but I was unable to tether using one method and had to use the other. Now both methods do not work.
I get an IP address using both and am able to ping the phone. I am unable to resolve hostnames or ping IP addresses on the internet.
I have tried rooting my phone and running the iptables command posted on these forums, but still no luck.
I havent tried a factory reset of my phone, but I may be forced to try that solution as well.
Anyone have any ideas?
Tried doing a full factory reset on my phone. No luck.
Running 2.3.5 on it.
This is getting frustrating!
What program were you using when tethering? Is your phone rooted? CDMA or GSM?
Look at previous posts about tethering...
hey mate, i had the same issue after updating to 2.3.6.. have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435619 that fixed the issue for me.

Phone is not rooted anymore, and problem started occurring before I rooted it. I actually decided to root it when tethering stopped working.
I believe it is GSM as I am on the Fido/Rogers network in Canada. I am using the the included app on my phone to tether using wireless/usb.

I had already tried these steps before wiping my phone. I could always try rooting again and re-applying these steps to test.
Just to clarify a little, the phone actually does tether and my computer gets an IP address, both in WiFi and USB modes. I am able to ping the phone and resolve hostnames using nslookup. I've cleared the DNS cache to be sure it wasnt cached DNS entries that were being returned. I can't ping internet adresses however.
I'll try the IPTABLES commands again and let you know how it goes.

Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you
Charlie
connected but not connected
I also have this problem.
In my Vibrant shows that i connected, but i can not load pages. Someone
found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?
Wi-fi problem.
Someone found any solution for this problem?
Froyo's update will fix this issue?
Thanks.
i hang on you **** iphone users they just bay for its cool smartphone **** iphone android is the king
Hey, I got a softbrick on my vibrant, reflashed back to stock and everything is working except I get no data connection. No 2g/no 3g, no Data icon at all. Even if I am on wifi I am also unable to download anything from the market place however my datasync / push with e-mail also works.
Any ideas?
Thanks
figured out my APN was empty... all good.
same issue, i don't know how to fix it. Mobile Network state says disconnected and connecting but never connects...
Might help to say I'm using a Galaxy S Continuum
and the only reason I'm posting here is because this is the only topic similar to my issues.

I couldnt figure it out either, so just used Wifi to get myself going...
Turns out 2.1 doesn't support two factor authentication with Google accounts, (at least I couldnt get it to work) so you may need to turn that off too to get going.
Hi guys,
So my Evo 3D updated to ICS last night, internet worked before and after update. The phones internet just stopped working, it connects to the wifi router, tries to sync, i try open anything that requires internet and no internet. The symptoms are as if i entered a setting wrong, but trust me i have been trying this for hours to FORGET network then re-add it. I rebooted the router, i have tried connecting to another router, it connects but no internet (i am using static, its my work connection). I can ping the phone.
What are your suggestions? I have cleared all cache, took battery out. When i use Mobile Network everything then works. This is very frustrating as Wifi should be a simple thing for Android. PLEEEEEASSSEEE get this working
I have the same problem... today i updated my evo to android ICS and connect to wifi, wifi is connected, but not internet
Try to do factory reset.

I tried but it did not help..
Simple, ##786#. Enter your MSL code. Click yes. Phone will format itself (no, not your SD card). It will clear any NV (Non-Volatile) memory. And it will have blanked out IDs for Username and MEID and whatnot. This is not just a factory reset or a /data wipe. After it finally boots up, it will give the 'Hands-Free Activation', followed by 1x connection, followed by 3G.
I am assuming that the ICS update was an OTA, which means that I am unaware of the official Sprint update. I'll read the General forums see if that's what it is. Nonetheless, if this is a custom ROM, be aware that some custom ROMs will NOT properly activate after an RTN reset. In the case that it IS the case; and you don't have any connectivity, even phone services, simply flash a Stock rooted ROM. Edit: I see you did mean the official OTA, so ignore this paragraph as it only applies to a few custom Sense ROMs, and all AOSP ROMs which can accept ##RTN#.
In the case that your phone is not rooted / S-Off, ignore the entirety of the 2nd paragraph.
Hmm, maybe ignore all this, seeing as how I misread it was your WiFi erroring. I do not see how an RTN will fix that. One of the .ko files probably needs replacing.

Same problem here. I connect to home wifi with static IP address and I can access everything in LAN but internet does not work. Yesterday I was connected on DHCP wifi at work and it worked without problem and when I came home, at my surprise, my static home network also worked (without changing anything). But today I was not connected to work wifi and when I came home I got same problem again
---------- Post added at 10:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:28 PM ----------
There are also others with same problem: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-3d/183734-no-internet-access-through-wifi-after-evo3d-upgrade-ics.htm
DNLA auto-IP make sure thats not checked It shows connected when this option is checked but internet does not work. Make sure DNLA auto IP is not checked. This is under advanced options.
Hi!
I had the same problem yesterday as I installed the TeamGenesis 1.0 ICS ROM.
I restored all my data (also the system settings) and there was the problem. The "APN" has to be reset in the settings to default and than it worked for me again.

OTA upgrade sometimes cause problem, please search a RUU ICS Stock, extract to get rom.zip, rename it and flash it via Fastboot.
Well, since the JB update (Which I wish I never did) I can't connect to my University's network. From what I have seen, this seems to be a problem with numerous phones running 4.1.1.
The network requires PEAP w/ MSCHAPV2.
This is simply not a problem I can continue to deal with. My phone absolutely HAS to have Wifi at the Uni since I roam in the buildings sometime, and I don't want to wipe my phone before I know if the problem is resolved.
So what are my options? Can anyone confirm that the stock ROM will work with the above network after a wipe? If not, how can I downgrade to ICS where the phone worked great? Or, if that isn't possible, can anyone confirm any ROMs working with the previously mentioned network configuration?
and rant:
This phone was absolutely amazing with ICS, and performed better than my friend's GS3's. Now I'm beginning to hate it like my original Galaxy :crying:
Are you rooted ? Are you s-off? Also there's a few methods you can try that worked on older android builds I can post the links if you like. However what methods have you already tried?

Completely stock, no root. What methods are you talking about? Methods to get the Wi-fi to connect? I haven't found anything concrete on how to fix the problem, and the bug reports on Google never seemed to have any fixes.

so the uni network is the only one that you cant connect to? home network works fine?
Change frequency settings from auto to 2.4 Ghz
I had the same problem with my One X+ when trying to connect to my work PEAP network. Apparently it's a bug in Android 4.1.
I found the fix here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34212#c10
Flash the zip using recovery fixed my connection problems. Hope it helps!

I'm on the newest sense rom from Captain Throwback but this has been happening to me since I was back on MeanBean. I can turn my Hotpot on and I get no errors and I can connect with my laptop, tablet, and desktop. On each of these devices, they connect just fine, but there is no Internet Connection. I have tried absolutely everything, Changing security settings, changing SSID, changing password, changing advanced settings, and trying the hacks below.
I've even tried the fix here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509613&page=2
I've even tried removing and adding all the build prop edits from MeanBean
This used to work no problem and I cannot pinpoint when it stopped working. I'm guessing it has something to do in my MSID settings or something on the cellular level. I don't think it is a hardware issue because I got WifiTether for root users to work.
Please any help would be awesome. I've literally tried everything
Please don't recommend me to use WIFI Tether. I'm not a fan of that app and my stock app should be working.
There is an updated hack recently posted in my thread - did you try that?
And technically, unless you have a tethering plan, it shouldn't be working, so you may want to think about that statement a bit.

I understand all that but I figured it you didn't have it on your plan, the error 69 would come up when trying to start it. I thought when is was hacked, Sprint wouldn't be able to see how your data was being used. On second hand, I do use a great deal of data so maybe I was flagged. Yes I did try the latest hotspot hack but I will flash again.
Ya nothing happened when I flashed the hotspot hack. This is just so weird. Any other suggestions would be awesome. I think this all started when I flashed the 3.17 firmware. I almost want to try flashing it again but I will have to unlock my bootloader again.
Ok so I've been doing a lot of testing and I've figured something out. When I drop the Network Mode to CDMA only, the hotspot works just fine. Does anybody else have problems with the hotspot when you are in LTE/CDMA mode with the stock app? I remember this being a problem way way back but I thought it was fixed or at least the app would only use CDMA data.
Yes. I had this same issue. Iptables isn't playing nice. I recommend JB Wifi Tether, it's been working flawlessly.

Have you found anything around the web to fix this? I can't call into Sprint and complain obviously.
What does the JB Wifi Tether app do? It seems to replace some things within the IPtables. Is there some way to create a script to do this automatically on a reboot so i can delete the app? Can I delete jtether once a run it once?
I personally want to try this script.
http://albertomilone.com/?p=581
I'll give it a shot and let you know.
This guy here also has something going. Basically I want to be able to select it from my quick setting and not have to open the app every time.

So JB Wifi Tether works great. Just kinda suck you have to open an app to get tethering working. Anybody know of any scripts for the iptables that work at bootup?
