i have just got rid of my iphone 4s and got myself a unlocked nokia lumia wow what a great device so smooth and so sexy looking.
i can honestly say its probably the best phone i have ever owned its quality and this is just my opinion but its better than the iphone 4s in every way.
what apps have u guys got installed on your nokia lumia device new to the device so what apps are a must have.
Wow really?
I've been thinking about trying out a iphone 4 or 4s.
I've comparing camera quality and audio quality - It seems like apple has a firm grip on these.
But, the Lumia does feel amazing and I'm enjoying WP so far.
Some of my favorite apps
das Image - nice pictures
fantasia painter
gas buddy
yivosoft recorder
games:
3d paperball
line birds
magic flip
monster stack
physi bricks
just to name a few
i found the iphone ios boring the phone is nothing to shout about just my opinion the lumia operating system is so much more sexy and a pleasure to use.
Interesting...
WP platform is fresh and I think thats what is holding me with Nokia right now.
btw here are a few more apps:
- Accuweather - I like the graphics on this one
- Board Express for Tapatalk
- Dictionary - by Flow Simulation Ltd. - This has a really nice interface
- Flashlight 7 - a must
- PC remote
- Toggle - allows you have live tiles w/ Wifi, Data, BT, etc

No they don't. I got rid of my iPhone4 because the camera is crap and the os is slow, very slow when compared to WP7.

I don't think you owned an iPhone 4 after the HDR camera update, it's mind-blowingly good, I could almost say that it's the best smartphone camera, even for 5 megapixels, it's amazing, better than my Samsung 12 megapixels digital camera. Haven't used the 4s yet, must be really good.

+1 I just recently compared my buddies iphone 4 (5 mpx) pictures to my lumia and it was quite clear- no contest the iphone is better- pictures are crisp, colors are spot on, and depth is there.
I wish I could rip the iphone camera out and swap it into my lumia 800

No.
It's too small, the display is not flat. It has no FFC and the memory is limited to 16GB. It's also one of the thickest phones around. And it isn't aluminum.
Hands down the most beautiful and elegant wp7 device. I'm typing this from mine

i understand why you and some people would say about the size memory and ffc though for me i think the size is great as with my hd7 i did find my trouser pulled where is was so huge. ffc i dont think will get used anything like the amount ppl complain about it not being there. Mem is fair i would of wanted more but plus sides out weigh this.
HOWEVER not being aluminum is nothing but one of the best things to happen to this phone. Its a single moulded peice of polycarbonate so it will feel stirdier than any metal phone as well as having the advantage of 1. not showing scratches and most important 2 it does not mess up the antenna so your signal will be massivly improved. I do not get how anybody could consider this a bad thing at all but rather the best thing to ever happen to a phone.

yes when you can scroll though a grid of icons, yes i see thats so much better whilst watching your battery drain away.
My opinion is this is the best looking phone since the nokia 8850. That with amazing build and one of the best screens on any device makes this a must have. Then add the extra Nokia features plus the great camera not the best no, but up there and at a price point that makes iPhone look even more stupidly overpriced make this a true winner

I know it sucks esp as i am scrapping the walls already and i get mine in 2 days (one way or another) but if i lived in the USA i would advise waiting for the new year. I very strongly suspect they will bring a different version of the Lumia 800 with improved specs ie ffc and 32/64gb. I remember reading they said they will be bringing out top spec devices in usa in q1. I also suspect you will get a look in first at the 900/ace/champaign. Its a bit like htc with the hd2 you had to wait but you got the good stuff.
I just feel that unless you can afford to blow the cash for 2 months of use you will kick yourself for jumping in to early. Plus I dont think you get the full data speeds on t-mobile but that i am unsure of.
Sexiest phone with what I consider to be the best mobile OS. Yes yes yes!
Lumia 800 ROM
I just got my Lumia 800 from Telecom Germany, it has modyfied software for Telecom, start logo, special Telecom ringtones etc.
Do anyone know how to get the General Nokia software to the phone... ?
I would really like to "debrand" it.

it really is beautiful. amoled looks great at first sight. (on second sight the letters dont look "clean"). its really fast. compared to the titan it seems much snappier when scrolling trough the ui.
however its so tiny.. i cant imagine to use it for long web-browsing sessions.
also.. 16gb non expandable is a joke these days. With 64GB i would have bought it instantly. Being one sexy music player could be a good selling point..
so na i guess i pass on this generation of wp..
This Phone is just gorgeous! Got it yesterday and everyone i showed i to, was impressed about the build quality and about the design, even hardcore iPhone and Apple fans.
The N9 might have more features, but it is really expensive and it was dead before even released. MeeGo is dead, so i don't care about the N9.

People just say this rubbish because its thein thing to say or like anything that results in a direct diss to Microsoft. It is a worrying trend esp when even with all there faults, and there are many, Microsoft is still the best option for most. At the end of the day it is the end users that miss out and we will all miss out big style if it continues. Even MS cant take this bad attitude towards it for ever and that will lend us to a world dominated by apple clones and/or software made in peoples bedrooms. I love android i love linux but could i live with just them all the time? Not a chance. Like it or not MS is leading the way in the tech world with everything from office 365 to windows 8 to xbox live to exchange to hyperV etc. What would the world be like without then? We geeks would be fine we have linux but what about my mum and my sister etc? what about me trying to administer our network without active directory and group policy? Everyone says MS steals technology yet we keep forgeting they are normally the first to come with it they just get beat down or mess it up but they ae there pushing forward and inovating. Windows phone is just one example along with Windows 8 of how MS is set to change the game for the better if only we let them.
Thank you my friend.
There are two major and two minor issues I have with this phone.
First is Pentile. There are two types of people - those who see it and those who don't. I do, so I was thinking about returning the phone at first. Now I'm sort of living with it, but still black text on white background looks like crap to me.
Second is no equalizer.
The two minor issues are the fact that the USB port is located on top of the device and that it has a lid. This is less annoying than Pentile but still very awkward.
Otherwise it's a great phone.
I am looking to upgrade from a droid 3 (giving it to my gf, probably) to either a galaxy s3 or the nokia lumia 900. does anyone have any experience with either? pros vs cons? should i stick with the d3?
I just switched from the Lumia 900 on ATT to the HTC one X.
The lumia is a beautiful phone. Absolutely the best feeling phone i have ever had in my hand. The build quality is great (as long as you get a non defective unit). There have been issues w/ the purple screen bug but that is software and should be fixed soon. Windows works great. It is a solid platform that gets the job done and gets it done fast.
Pros:
Build quality
Metro UI
Smart Tiles (same as widgets really)
Music: all comes from one source so its really easy. Also zune pass is worth it.
Social integration: it is actually pretty awesome. The people hub is really nice.
Office integration: I typed all my notes for class and it shows up on my phone.
Pictures: the picture hub has all the pictures from facebook and your camera and your skydrive.
Cons:
Not as widely adopted as android
Not as many apps
Apps arent as supported
Apps arent as high quality
No removeable SD card or Battery
Purple screen bug
Camera (i wont sugar coat it. I hated the camera)
No customization ( you choose between 7 colors for tiles)
Cant give you much info on the GSIII because I dont have it but you know all the pros and cons of android so I will let you make your own conclusions.
Sounds like the s3 would be more to my liking. I was a Nokia fan for a long time (back in the days of the n80, n95, n82, and n900), but until they build a respectable app store or allow Android porting (oh to dream!) I will not switch again. Thanks!

I have been doing research on the 8X ever since it came out, and the phone looks gorgeous. Perfect screen size for me, great colors, new OS (being a current Android user), and from what I've heard it is really smooth. However, after reading other threads, I have had trouble deciding whether to go with the 920 or the 8X. The 920 is made by Nokia, the top Windows Phone company, but to me it seems like they overdid the camera to a point where the lowlight pictures look awful. But it is a popular phone. Which one would you pick if you were me, a smartphone junkie who doesn't use camera often, but may need to quickly access it from time to time; a Zune fanatic; and one who stresses comfort, size, and performance as a balance in a phone, to maintain at least two years of life?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app
if you love zune you should not that the 8x has only 16gb where the lumia has 32gb. The 8x though will have better sound esp for bass. Also you said about build quality and that is nokias strong point, there phones last and last while every htc I have had just falls apart. Also the 920's plastic is colored all the way through not just painted so if you do scratch it then its not a problem. Also note that you get nokia drive a great sat nav as well as wireless charging and matching headsets speakers etc. Also the screen on the 920 is a long way better it has darker blacks faster refresh rates and is brighter not to mention that it has ultra sensitive touch screen.
The 8x is slimmer though, the 920 is a fat boy. In my world I cant recommend the 8x however, if it had more mem or an sd it would be tight as I think its better looking and a better size. Phone at the mo are getting stupid in this race for bigger screens and higher specs. In a perfect world I would have the 8s with more ram and dual 1.5 but again htc messed it up.
The things I do not like about the Nokia is the plastic backing and its Pureview camera. Do the benefits outweigh these things?

Ive used the HTC HD7 since it came out on Tmobile 2 years ago. The only problem Ive had with it is the proximety sensor comming loose. It's got 16gb, but Ive never filled it. I had a ton of games, and stream my music from the cloud. I was excited to hear that tmobile would be carrying the new HTCs! The only thing I wasnt sure, do the 8s and the 8x have micro sd slots? My htc hd7 takes great pictures. The nokia would be a good phone too. Its got a better camera, more memory, and nokia exclusive apps, but probably won't be offered on Tmoble. Either way you go though, HTC or nokia you'll be getting a good solid phone on a nice solid os. WP 7/7.5/7.8 have done everything I needed it to smoothly, quickly, and without freezing, or haveing to reboot.

No they do not come with SD expansion. At least the 8X doesn't. See, I was thinking about streaming music from the cloud, but 1) how much cloud storage do i get and is it free, and 2) does that drain battery? For me now it all pretty much comes down to the screen and general functionality. However, the HTC 8X has that awesome clock tile that the 920 does not have. So I'll see. Still need feedback, though! And I have Verizon, and they are offering both. That's why I'm so conflicted
I think you should try both of them out before you decide. That way, you know yourself which one you would prefer.

Everywhere I read seems to say get the 920 over the 8x.. my only issue with the 920 is that it looks a bit chunky?

True say, though me personally I never use the camera  The Lumia 920 still looks great though even without the camera, guess I'll just buy whichever device comes out first
at this point, im liking the nokia maps/music/camera :S yeah i'm starting to pick at the software because the hardware on both wins me over
Hardware is very similar between the two. The snapdragon is really good the sound quality from it is decent as well you can read gsmarena HTC One S review and check out the audio review. My sister has it and it sounds better than my One X. The SLCD2 on the One X is easily one of the best displays to date so no issues with the 8X there. The camera is also good and takes some great pictures.
Like the user above me said it will come down to software and I think Nokia edges it slightly especially the free music streaming something I would make use of. The slightly bigger screen also appeals to me and that fact it's a Nokia my last Nokia was the 5800 and have been etching for a good handset from them.
I will try the 920 out, now whether it can tempt me away from Android that's another discussion on its own.

nokia music is kind of like google music, slightly better selection imo for free things
http://www.nokia.com/global/apps/nokia/music/
that said, since google music doesn't have an native app that I know of on WP, nokia music pretty much wins the music race for me on WP. There are 3rd pt apps for it, i just prefer using apps for services made by the service...
I'm in this same boat....after owning a One X and now the GS3, i've learned to really not enjoy the samsung (again). I didn't like my captivate, loved my Inspire 4G. Loved my One X, so-so feelings on the GS3. So for me, Ativ S is out.
To me, the hardware/software is so close that it has basically came down to which will get better developer support down the road. It seems like the 920 is getting the initial praise and most people are looking forward to it, but with WP7, it seems like the HTC phones are the ones getting the ROM's/dev support.
What do you all think? Which will be most popular with the Dev's??
They will be equally popular with world-wide devs.
The nokia one just gets some more exclusive apps, but HTC has apps as well. It now depends on how you plan on using them.
And for every exclusive nokia app there is a free, available to everybody, third party app.
Also if its app sits worth a note that most exclusives get hacked and ported to other devices ie nokia maps etc
The 16GB limit on the 8X is a real disappointment. I don't love the fatboy formfactor of the 920...but can't get by the 16GB limit. I just can't understand why they did the 8S with expandable memory and the 8X has none (yes, I know, unibody ... but my One X has 32GB internal!!!).

I have both. I decided to get the Note 8.0 and stick with the 920 as my daily driver. There are things I love about both wp8 and the samsung note series. This allows me to have both.
If I had to choose, I would still likely choose the 920. Overall it is just a better device IMO. Of course, if apps a a serious requirement for you, android obviously still has more selections. I just find windows phone has the best UI. There was a exclusive Halo app announced today for Windows Phone 8 and RT though.

can u tell me more about why u say lumia 920 better? is its screen big enough or small?as i will use it for reading e-books and surfingh the internet..is the fnt readable? and writing alot...iam not intensive gamer so it doesnt matter...........thanks in advance
The screen on the Lumia is large enough for me. The Note II screen is obviously larger but I believe the PPI is higher on the Lumia. The Lumia is the best in direct sunlight for sure, if that is a consideration.
I think if reading is your biggest concern, the note II is larger but the Lumia is sharper. Also, obviously the Lumia is more pocket friendly.
There are so many considerations that it is impossible to recommend either 100%. I have no bias toward either Android or WP8. To me, pick the best tool for the job.
Sent from my Lumia 920 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I'm not sure I would like to read eBooks on either one of them - I think both screens are too small for that use case but that of course is just my personal opinion. For surfing the internet and reading articles I never had any issues with the screen size of my 920. I prefer the 920 over my Ativ S (basically an SGS3 with WP8) for reading because the PenTile display in the Ativ S makes white backgrounds look grainier/dirtier than the RGB LCD in the 920. Of course the Note 2 has an RGB AMOLED so this might not be an issue there (never did a side by side comparison).
Battery life seems to be better on the Note 2 though - at least in standby.
What are your other requirements? Would you use the stylus on the note for drawings or writing notes? Are you into photography so that the superior camera in the 920 would be of benefit to you? Nokia has true offline navigation capability if you are traveling a lot abroad but Google Maps on the Note II has a better POI database according to many.
While i only have tried Galaxy s3, note 2, and various other "modern" android Devices only for a short time, i prefer the lumia 920.
Androids play store is a bit bigger, but that is no real problem, as wp is coming along nicely.
In daily use, you will notice that android is really lagging, and also that apps is crashing.
This is not something I have experienced with my Lumia 920.
Furthermore, Nokia provides here maps and here drive+.
These programs gives you offline maps and turn by turn navigation for most of the world.
Another advantage with wp8 is skydrive.
The phone uploads all my pictures and videos to skydrive, and on my computer and tablets, which all is running windows 8 and windows rt,
The pictures appear instantly.

I have both as well.
Note2: +: Big screen, sd card, removable battery, tons of software in android, highly customizable interface, rootable and customs roms
-: a bit unwieldy, tough to see in sunlight, looks kind of cheap, no camera button
Lumia 920: +: Premium feel and design, smaller screen if you want that, don't need to mess around with settings much, simpler interface, better camera
-: Limited software, heavy for some, no sd card, no removable battery, camera button, all buttons on right
Do you want it as primarily a phone or as a phablet is the question.
I'm finding the limitations of wp8 becoming increasingly annoying. You may want to consider the galaxy s4 and the htc one which are closer in size to the 920.
rc
You may want to consider the htc

I bought my wife the HTC One (M7) and I don't regret it being her 1st Android device...it runs flawless and the display is the best I've ever seen on any device and her being in the medical profession Android's apps in her field made sense. As for me, I don't play games and I am a full-time college student and Windows Phone does exactly what I need it to do and despite it's limitations there isn't a 3rd party or Homebrew app that did a lesser job than the branded apps. We have T-Mobile where our kids live and barely an AT&T signal and where we live right out no T-Mobile whatsoever and Straight Talk (AT&T) HSPA+ in a place I thought we'd never get it, so VoIP is important which is my one pet peeve with WP. Skype gets it done but it just pisses me off that the brain trust at Microsoft failed and betrayed those who grew up with Windows Mobile through the WP7.x upgrade and left us in the cold with only a Start Menu and dead development today. It's easier said than done to buy a new smart phone every year.
Over the last years, I usually have bought 3-4 smartphones each year, one iPhone back in 2009, and after that, several android phones.
My first android phone was the htc desire, a phone with 150 Mb internal memory.
I regret ever buying it. I also had a lg optimus 3d, a phone with several nice features, but it still had that poor operating system called android.
So, eventually I got the Lumia 900, a wp 7-phone. I really got to enjoy wp, so now I have the Lumia 920. This phone is simply the best phone I ever had. I am now waiting for the rumoured Nokia eos.
I am convinced that it will be worth the waiting.
But for now, I am convinced that my 920 will suffice,
And I will without hesitation recommend this phone to anybody who is asking.

I will suggest Lumia 920, and if display size is not a concern go for iphone it has apps and performance.
Don't go for Android, i have S4 even it lags a lot of times and Random reboots comes free with Android, but i never had any lag in my lumia 920 or iphone 5
WP8 is far better then Android
I've owned a Galaxy SI, SII and SIII (which I still use). I picked up a 920 for testing apps my company is developing on W8, and although initially I enjoyed the 920, it now spends most of its time in my computer bag, while I'm back to using the S3. Why? Severely limited apps, especially in the tools/utilities area, infuriating restrictions on music player apps and supporting utilities, no call blocking apps, etc.
I like to tinker- this phone is not for my kind of consumer. It's great for those who have no desire to customize- smooth as butter and easy to use interface, great camera, competent music player, excellent battery life. But I want more than that- I want, for example, an app with a 4-band parametric EQ, a themed, customized UI, ROM control and a custom kernel to overclock/undervolt/manage memory, wifi tethering, etc...
I have both. Would never replace Note 2 with any phone. I like huge display. Note 2 offers me better readability, easier documents handling, editing and sending. I like the fact that I can customise keyboard (using SwiftKey), widgets, fast access to applications.
Lumia 920 has great navigation. Great camera.

Note2 is good but android is still buggy

I have both and chose the 920 for two reasons: email on WP much nicer and I am now bored with flashing custom roms and tweaking launchers, too much time wasted. Android has a way of sucking you into endless process of perfecting your phone (so much so you forget why you need a phone in the first place!)

I very much agree with you, if you have a lot of spare time or if you just want to kill time and if your phone is everything for you then go for Android, if you want a smartphone that works as a smartphone out of the box go for WP8 or iOS

GO for Lumia 920. I recently switched form Galaxy note 2 and i am really enjoying it. All the necessary applications are available in WP8 and most importantly i am impressed with the smoothness and lag free interface of wp8. The lumia 920 is handy and you can use it one hand only , while with note 2 you have to use both hands.
If you ask me , go for lumia 920 !

Exactly true. thats the reason i switched from note 2 to lumia 920
Why not have both. I use lumia 920 for day to day activities n note2 for the browsing fun games etc...
Jotted from Note II near you.
Is this the logical upgrade that it looks?

Not for 750-800 Euro`s retail :silly:
Well the 920 was rather steeply priced when it first appeared.

well, its a different class pretty much.
its better equipped and such (unless you're looking at AT&T, the US carrier carrying the 1520) but then again its larger, which could be either a plus or minus.
Personally, I'd prefer the 920, but if you value big screens, the 1520 could be the way to go. I personally don't expect to see a complete 92x series successor until a significant WP upgrade drops, like 8.1 perhaps.
1520 ticks all the boxes pretty much for me and definetly an upgrade however if it's priced anything over £520 it's not worth it. £500 is fine I would choose this over Note 3, which incidently I also owned.
Love the design build quality camera size...only downside is ofcourse lack of good apps.
If it's too pricey will probably wait for price to fall as I did with nokia lumia 920 which I bought for £165.00.

I wanted the 1020 but wasn't happy as it was just the same body and battery as the lumia 920 so was extremely happy when they announced the lumia 1520
Few reasons why I need it
1) Its got the new Faster Processor and more ram ( future proof)
2) Support for RAW files ( I buy my phones based on their cameras and so this is BIG for me)
Sure the lumia 1020 will support raw as well but those 41mp are just overkill while the 1520's 20mp is more manageble
3) Bigger Battery and Bigger screen so editing etc will be more fun.
I just hope Nokia comes with a built in Raw editor in the future and proper HDR in camera ( I know it dos bracketing shots) but hdr in camera would be benefit or a software to deal with it

dont forget about being able to add 64gb micro sd
if i were you i would wait for WP 8.1 to appear.. well see, there will be some new devices then - and probably the devices will do a "jump" like we expect WP 8.1 to bring... also i never buy the first device of a new "family" just for the case that there was a problem with the new design...
that saved me back in the days when they changed the iPhone 4 design and had issues, with the antenna
Nope
Not for me. Im buing new Lumia 920 next month.

i usin L920 almost 8 month and for now dont see reason to spend lot money for new models... 920 work great
I like big phone and want one
Still very happy with my 920, everything runs as it should and battery life is good. This is the first phone I had for this long, usualy I changed phone every 2-3 months on android.
I loved my 920 and was very happy with it, Now have a 1520 and it is so much of an upgrade, The screen is a beauty and I actually like the new tile layout, The camera is great compared to the 920s of which I wasn't overly impressed,
Performance wise it is flawless whatever I ask of it, Not that windows phone has ever been slow or laggy but this really is so fluid,
Lumia Black is preinstalled and I had the update through the other day via preview for devs to 10521, Little touches like the coloured glance screen clock are very nice amongst everything that comes with GDR3.
It is a very big phone though so will not be to everyone's taste, If you have large hands and pockets then go for it :fingers-crossed:
I wonder if the 1520 will get the WP9 update from MS

possibly not... it's early to discuss about this... ask question when Microsoft release official hardware compatibility list for WP9... also rumors says WP9 will not be compatible with WP8 because MS start build WP9 from scratch
Just bought one brand new for $400.00 and why don't we have forum for the 1520?
It is too big...
Maybe if rumored Lumia 929 becomes real. :]
Well Lumia 1520 screen is too big. I know it is phablet. But not handy if you want use as phone. I upgraded my Lumia 928 to Lumia Icon and 5" screen for one hand is big. But I'm happy with it. But most of things what I like Verizon Lumia models - design.

I myself have decided to join the Windows phone gang recently. I find 1520 way too big to operate, so I got a 920 instead. Some of my fav wallpapers are not Full HD so I dont have to worry about the pics get stretched.
