Curious if any of you night owls can help me out. If you have a micro HDMI laying around with a source to plug it into can you see if it works. Especially if you are on .15 FW.
Mine was working last night flawless on my new Prime now no longer working on the .15 FW. I am pretty sure that i was using the HDMI out before i updated to .15.
Tried today on same TV, no dice.
One word, Yes
Damn, thanks. Guess ill be exchanging my Prime this morning hopefully they have more. I dont get it, worked fine last night but not now. Its only 2 days old too.
I gave up on it several firmware versions ago when I bought the cable and adapters to hook up to a monitor over DVI...guess I should try again.

Kinda angers me that it doesnt fill my tv screen perfectly. Like the tv zooms in way too much. I tried so many options but i was told thats how its always going to be. It outputs in 720p but a mkv file that is 1080p will output in that
Mine actually when working fit perfect. As long as i had my TV on screen fit oppose to 16:9.

Yes, both playing movie from ext sd, and internal sd. Also play photo slide show with music background. Everything are good.
Works for me. It never fit fully on my TV though... Tried all of the different options for resizing, no go.

Just like the post says my hdmi works sometimes and most of the time it doesn't. I had it working last night watching nerflix and it just stopped, same thing happened today. I am running a Zone23 Rom and bcblend 02 kernel. The mhl adapter I am using is from T-Mobile. Does this happen to anyone else, is the a solution I can try? I just ordered the htc adapter to try that and I have already switched hdmi cars to see if that was it and it wasn't. Any help I would appreciate.

did you connect the power cable as well?
Yes, I know I didn't mention it but yrs the power cable is attached and working, I guess it was my fault for not clarifying it better, it use to work whenever I plugged it in not it is hit in miss with a mostly miss.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
sounds like a loose connection. probablly a faulty hml adaptor.
Also, sometimes when it kind of was acting like it wanted to work it would cut on cut off like someone was flicking a light switch on and off.

Well I ordered a HTC mhl adapter and the same thing happen. So I ended up restoring a rooted stock rom, re-applying all my apps, backing up my new setting, wipeing and re-installing my Zone 2.3.4 ROM and re-applying my new setting and it still didn't work.....LOL
But it now works on my 55 inch vizio but not my 46 inch Sony in my bedroom where I would use it the most.
I don't know what the problem is with the Sony because it use to work flawlessly but now it doesn't even read it. I know its the tv because I have swapped everything else, hdmi cable, charger, and mhl adapter. If anyone knows what may have caused my tv to stop reading my mhl adapters please let me know?

Your TV port probably failed. I know hdmi ports look robust like a usb port but they really aren't.
Well my tv has 5 ports and none of them are working with the mhl adapter but the still work with my DVD player though.

Old thread but I may be able to help others.
I have a generic HML adapter from ebay and I found that you need to connect things in the correct order to make it work reliably. I had the best results following these steps.
1. Connect power to the adapter
2. Connect the adapter to the phone
3. Connect the HDMI cable to the adapter
With the stock rom I found a reboot of the phone between step 2 and 3 sometimes helped but generally it was not needed. With the leedroid rom I using now I've never needed to reboot.
Unfortunately my 52" Samsung LCD (2008) has no audio but my 24" Samsung LED (2011) works perfectly every time. I got audio to work 2x on the 52" but I can't for the life of me figure out how.
Just to further update....
I found a firmware update for my 52" Samsung TV on their website. After applying the update I found the HDMI to slightly more reliable with my audio issues but it still did not correct it 100%. I have audio issues 1 out of 4 times now so by my best guess the TV has to comply with the newer HDMI specs in order to operate with the MHL adapters.
Hopefully this helps someone out there.
Appreciate the tip, so how does one update their tv

Hi,
I want to hook my gtablet up to my TV so I can watch netflix on it.
Will this cable allow me to do that?

Yep. Thats the one. steep price tag but its still half the price of a dock.

Yea, buying that I'm almost half the way to a Roku box.... and my gtablet doesn't do HD anyways. Hmm, idk if I want to get it.
I bought a $50 blu ray player from best buy with wifi built in. Plays netflix and pandora. I don't even own any blue ray discs. Picture is great.
Is it just me or does that dock connector look kind of like the one for Apple and SanDisk Sansa devices?
Got one
I just got one of the Viewsonic gTablet HDMI Cable - LinkIT off Amazon. It works amazing I'd recommend buying a female/female coupler (only a few bucks) so you can plug in a longer hdmi cable, the cable is really short.
It's worth grabbing this, it converts your tab into a media render. Of course it does not support the screen rotation So you'll have to rotate your TV if the app is not landscape...joke :/
I'm waiting until I see one of these cables on sale or something or they show up on amazon again.
i bought the cable and it is not working yet.
i have gtab comb 3.3 boot1.1 .
my tv is a 720p..
any ideas? solutions?
new to it - have you tried different roms ?
i have not tried another rom. nor will i, im satisfied with comb.
have not tried any other tv except mine.
i bought it for netflix.
i would assume the maker would of tried it on all the roms, that should be expected since its now out for the public consume. and if not, have a disclaimer that it might not work with all roms.. not everyone visits the forums or should have to in order to buy this. i got it off amazon..
but--- its hard to believe im the only one using comb and bought the cable?? and are having troubles?
anyone else?

Just for ****s and giggles you should try nvflahsing back to stock and see if that works. If the cable works then it is the rom version that you are using. If it doesn't work then it is the cable. It shouldn't be the TV unless you have a different device that uses HDMI that you can test it with.
i tried going back to stock, had major trouble figuring it out.
but i went to ginger edition and it did not work.
im back to 3.3 1.1 comb.
my hd cable box works fine hooked up with hdmi.
and i hook my laptop to the tv with hdmi- no issues.
im still the only one with comb and the cable huh?
can anybody confirm? with your stats?
Dock review
HDMI dock works flawlessly. GET a quality HDMI cable and you will be content with your purchases. Netflix, HD you tube, sound, 1080p, market and rotating screens all work well!
Got the cable but picture is pixelated. Is there a setting for output? Running tnt lite 4.4 on a 720p HD TV.

You have to remember that not every rom supports all the features that the original roms support. For example your running comb 1.1 base which doesn't have HW. So it also might be short on other stuff as well. You might want to try the AOSP 1.2 based roms that might have more options for you.
Ok heres the deal. I picked up a C1 model Prime the other day from Staples. My Prime via HDMI out was working perfectly fine last night, also this was the first time i tried it on this Prime. Returned many before .
Me and my GF's kid were enjoying some old school NES games via my 60 plasma. Wanted to show him our games back in the day, Excite bike, Punch out & what Mario really used to look like lol. So all was well. Had a blast playing them too via a Wii Classic controller.
Then i figured id set my Prime up to my external computer monitor so i can use it kinda like a desktop feel with a USB mouse. So i plug it up and it reads it, but the screen will just blink the mirror image & the tablet lags bad when i swipe it. Hmmm?
I thought maybe it was the monitor so i plug it back up to my Samsung 60" and now it doesn't display it at all. I am using a HDMI/Mini HDMI adapter i got from Radio Shack, which worked perfectly fine on the other Primes ive returned with no lag no probs crystal clear. So i thought that it could be a problem with my external monitor. Being it picks it but just blinks and the Primes screen acts funny. But even when i plug it up to my big screen it does nothing. Which it worked perfectly fine last night. Excite bike and Mike Tysons punch out never looked so good!
I guess ill have to get another adapter tomorrow but was wandering perhaps there is a fix. I can't see it taking a crap overnight. I even factory reset it.
Sucks too i thought i had a winner here, no other problems. Not even sure if my Staples or other Staples in the area have any in stock.

Probably just the adapter. Perhaps you bent a connection.

Thanks for the fast reply. I figured that. Do you mean bent the adapters connection or the actual Primes HDMI out connection? I just ran to Walmart hoping they had a similar adapter, no dice. Ill have to wait until tomorrow. I really hope its just the adapter.
I am super super careful when i plug it in and try not to movie the Prime at all. Its just odd that my big screen will show nothing and the prime won't even reconize it.
Where the small monitor will show its connected in the bottom right corner but just blink the image.
Found this. Others having this problem on .15 update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518522
I swore that i updated to .15 before i was playing with the HDMI out, perhaps not. Ill have to see if i can downgrade and give it a shot.
But the the TV's i tired it on so far. Keep in mind it worked perfectly fine on my Samsung 60" last night. And the Prime i exchanged did work fine on my 55" LG led. But this was prior to the .15 update. As far as possible bending or tweaking the HDMI out port on my Prime... I highly doubt it. Trust me i plugged it in and handled it as carefully as if it was worth a million dollars lol. I am ultra careful with my electronics.
60" Samsung D8000 Plasma (Worked last night)
55" LG LV5500 LED (No dice) But worked on my other Prime before .15 update
42" Vizio LCD (No dice)
19" Dynex TV in on my desk (Works but flickers on & off)
Hey guys and gals,
Although I've been lurking on these forums for a few weeks I've finally decided to join and ask some questions.
I've completed my S3 PC, got a nice monitor with HDMI input, bluetooth keyboard and mouse and of course the MHL adapter. Everything works great.. time to get rid of the ageing PC in my office.
I have a question though, I've connected the S3 to my TV and the new monitor and I never get a 1080p connection.. it's always 1080i
Is there any way to force 1080p as I do get a slight flicker with 1080i
I'm totally amazed at what the S3 can do! BTW I was a total apple fanboy until I got my S3 a few weeks ago.
Cheers in advance... and yes I searched
so nobody else is having this issue?? I was really hoping to get some help here Anyone??
Sure your monitor supports 1080p? What hz does it run when using 1080i?

It doest output 1080p via hdmi just 1080i iv tested on all my tv sets and there are all top line and display tbe same i dont get any flicker tho are you using a good hdmi cable?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
thanks for confirming snowwhite007... I honestly thought it was able to output 1080p. I guess the slight flicker is due to the monitor then.
Flickering may also be due to the phone's HDMI chip. I'm not sure if it's clock source and other components are stable enough for a clean transmission of 31'104'000 (31,1million) pixels per second (1920 width*1080 height*30 images/second / 2 (interleaved) )
1080i and 1080p have the same native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels with the only difference being that "i" (interlaced) paints odd lines before even in 2 'ticks' while "p" (progressive) paints in one go from top to bottom.
So if there is any flickering it SHOULD only be every other line, can you confirm that?
Hi, i've got a question, can anyone give me a tip which keyboard and mouse works best with the s3?
I want to do exactly what you did. I want to use my phone as a pc.
So any Idea?
I bought a cheap bluetooth keyboard an mouse from Deal Extreme worka great
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Might sound like a silly thing, but just check your power saving isn't enabled, found that while it is enabled stuff like 1080 vids played really badly. That and what type of hdmi cable you are using could be factors.
I went on hols for two weeks and just took my S3 and a portable hard drive with hdmi and usb adapters and cables and used the hotels 1080p tvs as a full desktop, ubuntu and all
I am pretty positive that everytime I have used the hdmi it has been at 1080p. My guess is maybe a tv error unless it has run 1080p before?
EDIT: Oooh, just had another thought, what exact hdmi adapter did you use? Link included if that's not against forum rules? Know when I got mine I had to wade thru a lot of close immitations that don't display properly as they are cheap fakes sold as the real thing, one would only display 720p
can you tellme the model of bluetooth keyboard and mouse? i wanna do the same

I bought a generic mini bluetooth keyboard from amazon marketplace, it's not the bees knees but its about the size of the phone, bluetooth, rechargeable and only £10.
Works great for using the terminal or typing complex passwords etc when traveling or using as a desktop.
Also used the microsoft notebook bluetooth mouse 5000, got that cheap through amazon marketplace too.
Neither come with bluetooth adapters though so would need to by one seperately if ever using with a pc that doesn't have built in bluetooth.
1080i
Hi
I recently purchased MHL adapter from this website
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s3-mhlhdmi-adaptor
And I have same problem as you. My TV only gets 1080i not 1080p.
However I don't get flickering, I just see that there is not enough vertical pixels (visible difference)
Tried bunch of different hdmi cables (cables that work with various 1080p devices with no issues whatsoever) and I always get 1080i.
Even when I try to playback video which is 1080p.
I'll try later if there is any difference if I plug it in through AMP (onkyo) and not the tv and let you know if there is any difference.
Cheers

Hi all,
Trying to output to TV - I have HDMI plugged into the TV and into the tablet using the HDMI port on the tablet but not seeing anything on the screen.
Is there anything I need to do to make the image output to the TV?
I am using a custom ROM - Woogy
Thanks
I am using the stock Rom. All I do is connect it as you have done and what ever is showing on the tablet is mirrored on the TV including sound.
I've not heard of Woogy. That may be your problem right there... All bets are off when you start using a non-factory OS.
I'm sure you had your reasons for the change to this ROM. You may want to investigate with the Woogy development community... Support of the HDMI is rather integrated to the OS.
AndroWook sorry
You might want to check what version of HDMI cable you have. I bought one from Amazon and it didn't work. Assuming the tablet or port was faulty, I RMA'ed it. Unsurprisingly, it was returned by Asus with a note saying "No fault found". It turns out that you need the correct type of HDMI cable, specifically 1.4. Look for "with Ethernet" in the description.
I bought a "with Ethernet" and it works great! http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0060AU5MW
I have connected to the TV via HDMI using Androwook 2.2 and Stock / Surdu_Petru / Hund's Kernel, all have worked in 720p mode no problem.
Some cables are stiffer to plug all the way in.
I will check mine again when I get home. Didn't work though when I tried.

Oh, and it was a 1.4 cable

I would try a different cable first. It should be pretty straight forward after you plug it in. If another cable does not work, I would look into that custom ROM that you're using.

I think there is no way to use crop mode in 4.2, btw in Mx player, you can still use "cut" and "zoom" mode, to watch the movie in real fullscreen. It work for me fine.
Be careful with the micro-HDMI port. Don't put too much strain on it. I have to position my cable just right to make it work now (My Prime is a year and a half old). I only use it to play controller enabled games on my TV though.

I have a similar issue with mine now. If it's not positioned properly the picture goes all fuzzy. I really need HDMI to work because we watch movies though the prime on the home theatre a few times a week!
You cant pick up the prime with hdmi plugged in or it will probably break. Has to be flat on a surface...
So flimsy...
