Guys n Gals we are all aware that our phone doesnt have much developement ..
We dont even have a moderator now who is actively participating..
We have two major problems
1. No s-off
2. Not much rom developers, kernal developers
A lot of you guys have been doing donations but without any directions..
This thread is to decide what we want more ??
I WOULD LIKE ALL GUYS TO REPLY FOR THIS POLL , THEN AFTER THE RESULT WE WILL TAKE DECISIONS ON DONATIONS FOR S-OFF OR ROM DEVELOPERS??
both of them!
development will stay stagnant without s-off. you want development, you NEED s-off. unless of course you love sense based roms
It depends whats more important to you ?
Sense roms can be awsome too !!
We can donate to rcmix 3d team or some sensation team , who have been doind this thing ??
CAN U GUYS SEARCH FOR A GUY WHO HAS DONE S-off AND ROM DEVELOPMENT BOTH ??
we need s-off to get better roms. so im going with s-off, then roms lol
This is the best forum site for help with most devices, but this Amaze Forum has really become abandoned by most of the dev community (thanks to the devs still here). But since XBoarder and Binary left, I'm starting to get horrible flashbacks of the Thrive forums that ended up getting buried in the depths of xda, and I've since had to go elsewhere for development. Now I feel, other than NRGZs ROM(s), there isn't much on xda for this device so now I have to go elsewhere for development. It's unfortunate but xda and the whole community purpose is lost imho in the Amaze forums. I miss the mt4g days smh

I regret my amaze just because of development purposes. I love it for what it is though (if that made any sense)
The G2 had so many insanely awesome roms. Miui, all sense types, cm7. EVERYTHING!! =[
Can't wait for the one X to come out to get rid of this amaze. I totally love my phone but I'm a flashaholic so yeah =\

well that's what I got from buying it from release, I had the "bad screen" as well as light bleed out of the side of the phone. and the messed up part is even on my amaze I have some light leakage on the left side of my phone.. seems like htc phones problems are ALWAYS with the screen lol.
Pretty sure S-off will bring devs, most phones that are S-ON don't get devs til they are s-off

Even then, its still a US phone. A TON of devs are overseas. So once we get s=off (which won't happen without tm revolutionary imho) the amount of devs that will come to this phone vs newer phones could be limited.

Not to sound pessimistic guys, but I don't think we're going to be seeing S-Off for the Amaze any time soon
Since the HTC One is coming to T-Mobile, I'd imagine a lot of people would jump ship, leaving the Amaze behind with an even smaller community
That being said, S-Off is really the top priority here. It's the only chance for us to get more devs over here
Why would anyone jump ship to another phone that is locked. They will most likely use the same security or better on it since we haven't hacked the security on the amaze yet.

Because it has better hardware? Because it will most likely see Jellybean 5.0 whereas our Amaze will probably not? And most importantly, because it's the first phone HTC is releasing after they admitted that they favored quantity over quality of their phones and will change that in 2012?
The upcoming HTC One series mobile phones will be a part of their flagship phones - there's a reason that they stole the show at MWC, which means that there will be more development for it, resulting in a higher chance of achieving S-Off.
Where have you heard of the HTC Amaze 4G? Have you seen how many devs we have in this section of the XDA forums?

they would honestly have to be dumb, or just have spare money. either way, by getting the amaze they should have learned not to get another htc lol.
by the time the one series almost achieves s-off htc will announce another phone. it ALWAYS happens. when I had my mytouch 3g slide it was close to getting s-off then htc announced the mytouch 4g. I jumped to it, then right when I bought that a week or so later I checked on the mytouch 3g slides forum and they just got s-off lol. guess that's just my experience with htc phones though
and wasn't the amaze htcs new flagship phone with the "best camera in the mobile phone market blah blah".. then got discontinued a few months later?
i say s-off then we could port roms from the sensation or other base htc devices,
and kernels we need to push HTC harder or at least somebody can figure it out better when s-off its available

The amaze isn't discontinued... only the "White" version is.
I don't own an Amaze right now, but honestly s-off gets you easier kernel flashing, more devs, but honestly Nrgz is an amazing developer, and Xboarder is doing his stuff too.
Jellybean? Barely any phone has a official Ics right now and everyone is worrying about jellybean..
Think about what the phone is now, a top of the line smart phone from one of the best companies.
Not what it will be in a year.
HTC listened once and unlocked the bootloader, I'm hoping they'll listen again and completely unlock our phones. (Well your phones since my Dinc is S-off)

Hey guys I'm looking for some help, I have the sensation 4g I love my phone its pretty awesome but I can get an amaze as trade for free the amaze is new btw. That being said should I make the switch I am user that likes sense I do like 3.5 better then 3.0 specs wise do you guys think this is good? Now I know most of you by now think its a no brainer but my concern is with roms the amaze section looks pretty empty roms wise its a pretty new phone do you think more devs will come to it, will ics be easy to port once its complete for the sensation because they are pretty close now to having a working ics rom anyways thanks for the help just trying to make a decision on two good sense devices

I'm not a developer, so I can't say whether ICS will be easy to port. However, HTC has already said that they will be bring ICS to the Amaze. My guess is that one of the reasons that there aren't many ROM's out for the Amaze, is that the developers don't really want to cook a ROM now only to have to do it again for ICS in a couple of month.
Forgive me for my lack of faith in HTC but neither manufacturers have a good track record for updating quickly but I doubt they will on time, it looks like xboarder has a wip thread tho so that answers that he seems to be one of the few cooking up roms. Ima just have to start kicking the habit of flashing roms lol any thing that anyone feels makes the amaze a totally superior device or should i stick with the sensation n wait for another device?

Read all the posts... Understand your concerns... BUT imho - its absolutely still a no brainer.
Its not the quantity of roms that any device has available. Its the quality.
Xboarder's are excellent and extremely stable.
Mike's revolution hd is a very solid stock-like rom
I haven't even tried NRG's because I'm so happy with the others but I've read good things about him/it.
And both Sense 3.5 and Bliss 3.5 are available by Xboarder - i haven't played around with them yet but again... I've read all positive comments.
I look at it this way - the Amaze out performs the Sensation in a lot of ways (not by much but still an improvement). The development has really been picking up over the past couple weeks and if I were in your shoes - i wouldn't hesitate to pull trigger and go for it
That's my 2cents

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on if the amaze is viewed as a must have or just a hold over until the next best comes out. Look at the Samsung vibrant. Viewed as a must have so it got great dev support. Then look at the sgs4g. It has very limited dev support since it was not seen as a must have phone but more as a slightly upgraded vibrant. By the time ics gets released the galaxy nexus will be full force. That will definitely be seen as a must have. I agree that a few rock solid roms are a lot better than many half assed ones. Im not trying to be negative or bash on the phone as I believe that this phone will get great love. Im just saying that it is possible it gets overlooked if its viewed as just a sensation with a good camera. Either way I am definitely looking forward to getting this phone tomorrow.

Lol i actually am trying the amaze n after the first day with nrgz28s rom I was sold this phone is superior to the sensation in every way camera battery life and build quality mostly its a big shame that most devs with the sensation may not see this device for what it is alot of them moved on to the gs2 and for me I just wasn't impressed with the resolution on that device and would have perfered an untouched gs2 with the exynos processor and 4.3 inch screen 4.5 was too much with the low resolution that being said the amaze is a great phone I hope more devs will come really not to say x n the current devs aren't good but from looking at the roms x needs a hand real bad so we could see roms speed up I want a stable version of sense 3.5 as it is much faster n better then 3.0. Hope HTC holds there promise n brings ics to this phone because it will be amazing with hardware acceleration

Download a terminal emulator from the market, go into it and input "dmesg" do a search for "panel" or "panel_type" and it should say something like PYD-AUO or PYD-SHARP. The AUO screen is built by ACER and personally I hate it. It does have better colors but the refresh rate is messed up or something and there is terrible ghosting when the screen image moves. Also, they all have a red tinge to the display if you tilt the screen at all.
I actually just saw a dmesg dump from Binary on a kernel thread and found his panel is an ACER one. This scares me.

I think its stupid to release it for XL before evo cuz they allready have working basics (sensation) and only need to fix camera.
I find this list acceptable, especially when compared to the other OEMs. Motorola in particular is pathetic.

There is no reason to believe that the two are related. I don't understand why people keep insisting that HTC/Sprint want to hold off on such a release so that they can make more money. The reality is that people are not likely to buy a new phone until their contract allows them to. Even for those of us earliest purchasers of the 3VO, we are not eligible for upgrade for quite some time. Regardless of ICS or no ICS, that eligibility does not change. And whether or not this phone gets ICS, I will be making my next purchase at the end of my contract. The ONLY thing holding up a release is that they don't have a stable release yet OR they are spending extra time (as they did prior to releasing the unlock) to explore more sneaky approaches on a conditional ICS release (I.E.: make it so that it won't function if anything other than an official HTC HBOOT is detected)

I think holding it to make money makes sense actually. Maybe I don't have to evo 3d and I'm faced with buying it cheap with ics and don't care about the nexus. Or, the nexus has ics and the evo doesn't yet so I'm more interested in the nexus.

Hello all thanks for stopping by. I have recently moved and settled to a new area and I bought my wife's and my phone straight out so we can switch at any time (or kill the contract if we moved outta the country). My android phones thus far have been the htc hero, lg optimus s, and the evo 3D. I got the evo 3d last june because I thought that it'd be like the original (tons of support, the next big thing, a crap ton of of mods). Little did I know that they would keep a lot of the drivers closed sourced and we as a community would have a few fantastic deves but would also run devs away (not just talking about the kernel devs over the past year quite a few have dropped by then been bashed and left). So my big question to everyone and indeed what I am pondering is.... Jump to a SIII as HTC and Sprint abandoned us or give HTC another shot? Both phones will have the same processor but im worried about samsung's build quality ...however I dont want htc to get my money blindly .... or i can just wait...? I dunno ...lol what is everyone else's thoughts?

Sprint is the issue. They are the final step before ICS is released. Follow the order: Google releases Android to the manufacturer > HTC tweaks it an adds Sense > HTC sends to carrier. HTC is not necessarily the blame here. There is a few threads dedicated to the speculation of the ICS release. IMO, it's still coming, but, just from the timing of things, they most likely delayed it so as not to conflict with the release of their new flagship, EVO 4G LTE (pushing more people to upgrade to that).
With the amount of reading and diving in to other forums because people ask me about their phones or I have actually rooted their phones, I prefer HTC phones regardless of the Evo 3D's lack of official ICS ROM (even though there is a VM leak and three ports available for it, one of those ports is a fully functional HTC Sense 3.5, which is what I am running) and the HBOOT 1.5 [email protected] (even though it's also mentioned that having HBOOT 1.5, rooted, S-ON and recovery 4EXT is the way to go).
I prefer the Sense interface. It's my preference. I love the ease of rooting (in most circumstances). I've had my experience of rooting a Samsung Captivate. It was eh. It was easy to root, but, when it came to custom stuff, just eh.

GPS works fine. My wife prefers Samsungs and has the GSII. We've used her GPS several times around Savannah, GA and locally where we live and around Atlanta with no issue. Actually performed better than my Evo 3D at times.
It's more about what you like. I've had the hero, og evo, and now 3d. I still have a epic 4g I got for Christmas and my experience wasn't all that great with it until cm came along. I despise touchwiz although its getting better. Sense does make HTC phones run a little slower cause its a resource hog, but I just love sense. I suggest looking at both and deciding on what you are more comfortable with. Both the s3 and evo lte are great

HTC or Samsung GIII
I'd have to, IMO, that the HTC is worth staying with HTC. I too thought about switching over to the SGIII but in the end, I'm going to stick it out with HTC, as the EVO 3D was my first HTC device and I will say I'm a little disappointed with their support of the device. I'll give them another chance with the EVO 4G LTE and see what happens. After all, I plan on being a smart phone user for way more than the standard 2 yr contract and will switch devices in the future if need be.
HTC has great devices and I can't stand hearing "3d will not get ics"
It's been confirmed. There are processes that have to be done before it will be out. I have seen new phones coming out with ics yes, but how many older devices have gotten officially updated yet. My buddy with T-Mobile who still hasn't seen his update. People just don't have any patience. If your on xda u have the ability to run ics. Either do it or wait.

Um t-mobile gsII just got ics last night and where and when did Sprint Ever say the 3d was getting ics? I've been scouring the Web for months waiting for word and have never seen or heard Sprint officially say this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Moving to Q&A
I finally made the switch (from 3d to Samsung S3) and loving the easy unlock. I found myself wondering though how the HTC folks were holding up with the LTE? Are you all fully unlocked? Or is it a psuedo unlock like they did on the 3D (hboot 1.5)
I believe if you have the original hboot, you're fully unlocked (not as free as s-off, but good enough to do almost anything most users do). I have read that the new hboot that came with the OTA has limited your abilities in terms of flashing things when you HTCdev unlock the phone. That new hboot may be comparable to the one you speak of on the 3D. I can't accurately say, since I never owned one.

Well we have full s off if people were smart enough to not take the OTA

+1 on this and i havent heard of anything like that with the new hboot from what i know (which isnt much lol) you still have all capabilities as you did prior to ota with the htcdev unlock which was pretty much the same as s-off and nothing like the nightmare of 1.5 on the 3d although i was lucky enough to not get that but no a few unfortunates who did my wife included lol
Tux approves of my EVO
I honestly think that the best way to make HTC listen to its customers is to leave them completely and send the message that we won't come back until they make them as unlockable as the Samsung's. We don't have to worry about the hboot s-on/off concerns in the Samsung world.

Most users arent rooters, and HTC would probably not even notice the drop in sales.
End result=no change
I'll take my HTC build quality with S-OFF

Well they haven't really had a good year income wise, not saying it has to do with people "boycotting" them but they can't afford to lose more customers. If Samsung is this open with their phones, that's competition and HTC better step up.
Also their attitude needs to change "multitasking is working as intended" in regards to the One X customers asking for a fix. It's obviously broken and it needs to be fixed. Don't play it as a feature and if they really intended into kill apps like they, don't call it multitasking.

HTC why are you crippling the development of your recent devices? ive been a fan of htc. got the original G1, motorola cliq (FACCKKK WHAT A MISTAKE! hopefully moto made their devices better), nexus one, G2 and now.... the amaze
i got the amaze since day 1 of its release. hoping its development would blossom like the nexus one and G2. blehh guess it didnt! ive been looking through the threads here and it looks like HTC has issues releasing kernel sources and that severely cripples development. all we get are broken roms. its kinda irritating that HTC's dev community are practically bothering HTC about it yet they just give us generic answers lol im surprised dev's here got as far as they did without any support from htc
Im thinking about moving on to a new device... i was hoping to get another HTC phone (HTC ONE X+ anyone?) but who says that HTC might do what they did with the amaze again. Im thinking about transitioning to a new company all together? samsung? or maybe Motorola (their new QWERTY key boards are to die for). From reading reviews they look amazing but there is one issue its build quality... HTC makes the best phones when it comes to hardware. I wanted to get the galaxy nex but the specs isnt all that tantalizing. thats why im reluctant to move out. but im prlly borderline
The company thats prlly as good as HTC when it comes to build quality is SONY. Xperia S looks nice.. esp the transparent strip. But i want it to glow different colors like the xperia u. I just wish it would work on tmobile 4g. Other than that this is prlly on par to htc's build quality.
Hopefully HTC will make a new nexus device with killer specs this fall.
HTC Y U DO THIS?
I agree with u 110% I "moved on" to the galaxy nexus. And the older specs don't mean much, it obliterates the amaze in performance. But the build quality is real bad. Every time my phone vibrates it feels like its going to dismantle itself. I still have the amaze, and when I go back to play with it, its So slow and stuttery, but the phone feels so amazing in my hand I love the build quality. And the camera is MAGNIFICENT! Both phones have pros and cons! I give so much props to the Devs here they keep working at it even though htc is working against them :'(

yea! i was afraid of that... too light and too clunky. I mean the htc one S is light but it's build quality blows all of samsung's phones out when it came to that. but the development is amazing for gnex.... i want the paranoid rom ported to the amaze but thats aosp based lol and the amaze doesnt even have that yet!
htc must make the next nexus! ughhh no more samsung. i dont want to jump the band wagon yet.
considering google owns motorola now, by the time I'm ready to upgrade I wouldn't be surprised if I'll have a moto in my pocket. Aside from the build quality I can't stand for what HTC has done to its customers. I expect HTC to get worse too, so now that you know they're capable of doing what they've done, they won't get my business again

Unfortunately it's pretty unlikely that we'll be seeing any ground-breaking development for the Amaze... We've been itching for a fully working AOSP ROM for at least half a year and even though we've got S-Off, it obviously hasn't made as much of an impact on the progress of AOSP ROMs as we had hoped.
I'm still using an Amaze, stock rooted and debloated, but I've pretty much given up hope on a viable AOSP ROM for this device. I've seen so many people post about saying how this beast of a device will finally be unleashed when blah blah blah blah but honestly, a GNexus with its inferior specs will hands down beat the Amaze into the ground in performance and smoothness.
This device was a total let down. The specs on paper looked awesome at the time and the build quality looked to be much better than other phones, and yet here we are with the capacitive button light bleed, camera flash leak, squeaking backplate, and god knows what else there may be.
All I can say is that I will probably never buy another HTC device in the future because of this experience.

One x/s build quality? S maybe but not x, x has so many hardware issues >.<
Samsung's quality is not really in question. It's just how it feels... A lighter phone is smarter and the plastic is a lot less likely to crack. My vibrant never creaked or had any weird physical issues. And chances are with a lighter phone the screen is less likely to break or crack from a fall. A lot of people like it. I personally love the feeling of the amaze in my hand. The weight gives the impression of it being more durable I like my phone having a little weight to it.
And I know there's a lot of talk about the amaze being poor but honestly I'm just happy we even got ics. Seriously, I had a sensation and this at the same time and this stock gb, compared to my sensation on ics aosp, the amaze was much smoother. May not be everyone's experience but was the case for me. Also I had multiple sensations that got dust under the screen very easily. And know several others with the same issue. I know the sensation is also HTC but to say the amaze was a failure or similar things, I have to disagree. As far as htc, yeah its a little disappointing what they've done. And Samsung is seeming to change for the better but back with my vibrant, the HTC devices I saw were getting froyo updates months before we had any signs of getting an update. Was quite frustrating. Ha back then all the talk was #neveragainsamung now it's htc. Interesting

Ha yeah that dust was an epidemic! And it could happen at any time /shudders freaking nightmare I tell ya! And yeah I mean every phone company has their peak and their fall. Sammy hasn't been the best with updating their devices and while we had everything else working when we finally got custom roms not based on touchwiz it took an eternity to get gps working without them releasing the drivers. And gps blew anyway. I think it took the sgs ii the same time as us to get ics. It's not that Sammy is doing great customer relation business its just that htc is plummeting, making them look good and htc isn't thinking of the customer... No memory expansion, no battery removal. That's irritating to me. The grass is always greener though! I thought I saw Sony devices are pretty decent and updated pretty quickly that's hearsay though.
