hi all,
i have had the same issues with my tg01 and im now on 3rd handset, orange said there going to offer me a new handset after 3 changes and im interested in what they will offer.
the lady said the other handsets will be of 'similar spec', ie, touchscreen, wifi, windows.
does anyone know what phones these might be? im hopeful they will offer me a hd2 as that is of closest spec to the tg01, what do you think?
other possible phones of similar spec stocked by orange
htc hero graphite (android)
htc tattoo ink (android)
htc desire (android)
htc hd2 (windows)
blackberry 9700 (RIM)
blackberry 8900 (RIM)
blackberry 8520 (RIM)
motorola dext (android)
samsung monte s5620 (symbian?)
the htc desire and the htc hd2 and the tosh tg01 all share the same chipset so would orange see this a similar spec? or are they gonna offer me a tocco lite or some crap?
any thoughts
You aren't going to get a HD2
Orange didn't carry it.
So, you will probably be offered something like the HD or an android handset

see now im tied between sticking with my tg01, as it does everything it should, just not when you want, or jump ship and get an android handset like the hero?
decisions decisions, whats the hd like? i like htc devices but is it going to be thicker than the tg01?
i think if u like something similar to tg01, hd2 is a good choice, but if u want something the highest value, I think desire is the most expensive on the list
personally, I love big big screen...so I will go for hd2..i think it's 2x thicker.
In my experience, Orange have a way of defining the term "same spec" which is very unique to them and alien to the rest of the English speaking world, so be careful.
Two weeks ago, they said they would only offer me a phone from the same list they gave me in January. These were the LG Arena KM900, HTC Hero or the HTC Touch 3G. I'm not joking, they consider the HTC Touch 3G to be equivalent spec to the TG01! What planet are they on?
They should be offering the HTC Desire or the Sony Xperia X10 because of the fact that they also have large WVGA screens and a snapdragon CPU. They might and tell you that the CPU clock speed is not important and its all relative, which can be true sometimes, but you should point out that in this case, the snapdragon supports certain media types like 720p for instance, that most other phone CPUs can't handle as far as I am aware, certainly not the three models they offered me, anyway. I haven't tried this line of argument with them yet, but I think I might if my TG01 continues to play up.
Equivalent spec is supposed to mean 'as good if not better' and not 'something nearly as good'.
Find out what they will be prepared to offer you, but don't agree to it straight away unless you are sure you are getting a fair deal. I'd be very interested to hear from you what they say.
Cheers
well at half past 10 i got my new tg01, at half past 12 i had a mate phone me on my landline saying he couldnt get through to me and a little while after that ,the random restarts came back.
im gonna phone them this afternoon, it don't help i have flu and toothache so im gonna play the pity card and see what they can do.
just out of interest if i say i have bad eyes and only got the tg01 because of the huge screen, would that help sway them towards a hd2?
but im quite tempted by the hero, yeah its a slower phone, and the screen is a tad smaller but its quite usable with android
well i made the call to orange, after 5 minutes of "hello?" "hello" Can you hear me?" "hello", i finally spoke to a person who can hear me.
they asked for a brand to get a replacement from, i chose htc,
so my choices are now :-
htc hero (if i cant get a desire)
htc desire (i wish)
htc tattoo ink (nope)
im awaiting a phone call to let me know my choices and will let you know how it goes.
i think i may be leaving the tg01 section of the forums
its been a fun ride

at least they said so .... m looking forward to it !
The only thing i want right now is ability to have IM's working in a background If WP 7.8 (or IM developers) gives me that then i'll be happy even without WP8.
Ofcourse, WP 8 sounds really cool but probably i'll get a new phone for it once they come out. Higher screen resolution, more RAM and dual core CPU definitely won't harm

At least they are going to remove the gap on the right side and file the screen with tiles this time rather than wasting the screen space with nothing
It will feel like a new phone with a bigger screen
this is such a fail, MS and nokia totally "backdoored" their customers... how im happy i got rid of my lumia 800...

I was hoping the update would arrive today too, supposedly bypassing the carriers this time
No idea when it is arriving, I didn't see anything about a time scale on the WP Summit

Nobody have ever told that current WP7 devices will get an upgrade to WP8! I'vе been writing here in the forum for moths that there will be no such upgrade but nobody listens! The new WP8 is based on Windows RT, not on WinCE. The new features won't be ported to WP7. I'll be selling my Lumia 800 too very soon but it is not Microsoft's fault that Nokia released its "new" models so late. And if you think for a sec, when WP8 is released near the end of this year it will be nearly an year after the release of the first Lumia phones! One year is more than enough device life if you ask me! Me personally rarely use a device even a full year!
So don't be pissed at Nokia or Microsoft. Nobody stepped on your throat telling you to buy the dying dinosaur from the shelf!
Fail! Fail!
Its good to hear that Microsoft atleast considered WP 7.8 for the current devices...
And guess what? WP8 supports native code apps. WP 7.8 wouldn't.
That means, no guarranteed future app support. Now, that's bad.
Had higher expectations, and this how Microsoft treats us.

Some features will be coming and I'm pretty certain the tile size will be included for sure. Other features are hardware based and can't be ported.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/20/3...8-upgrade-no-windows-phone-8-existing-devices
That's the fragmentation that every WP user bragged not have and it's worse then android because WP8 applications simple wont work in WP7.8 because of a software problem, not for hardware limitations. It's a mess.
I hope i get VoIP support and all native features that don't require hardware since future apps compatibility isn't going to happen.

WP8 is great...I work for a software development company and we have it for more than 4 months now running on a i5 tablet from Samsung...
7.5 is not a fail either... and i m pretty sure that 7.8 will do very well ...
cheers !
Well, the home experience is what I'm mostly looking forward to have on my Lumia. We're not getting much more than that, but with the current hardware anything more would have been pointless. This is just an appetizer to me tho, gotta start saving money for this fall, it's hard for me to keep a phone for more than 8 months anyway...

Im not pissed, im disappointed, quite frankly anyone else who has a lumia 900/800 right now can have all the right to be pissed, they trusted nokia to have a good phone with good support and they simply didnt deliver, this way you destroy brand recognition and brand value. It all seems to be the plan of mr Elop to make Nokia worthless so that Miscrosoft can buy it.... Its misuse of brand trust.
About you using your device less than a year, one of two things comes to my mind: 1. you obviously have a lot of money 2. you dont spend your money wisely
And please dont take this as a rant or insult, but most people (especially in todays wicked economy) would prefer to have something they dearly paid for, for more than a year.

nokia was dead for years and they came back to life because of this WP ... with or without WP8 lumia will be usable for at least another year...same thing happened to devices stuck on Android 2.1, or those not able to use for example Siri .... this is another example of how the software market works together with the hardware producers ... you buy a pc today because of a game and tomorrow comes another game with higher requirements ....
Hello
How likely would it be that we could successfull port wp8 on to the lumia 800. Its pretty powerful, it has 1.5ghz processor and 512mb of ram, could we get a reasonable port to it. I think its possible, but I would like opinions. Please answer the poll...
You mean official or unofficial? If the second one - yes, I think it could be done.. but for what when lumia 800 doesn't have dual-core.

I think windows rt must be easy to port on lumia as Htc hd developers did...and its easy for lumia 710 cuz its having a unlocked bootloader...
Hi everyone. For the past 8 months, I was on Windows Phone on a Nokia Lumia 920. Although I love the device and WP was pretty good for what it was meant to do, I was a bit disappointed that the apps I heavily use for school and work didn't get ported to WP in spite of many petitions to these companies. Even though I love Nokia, I had to make the uneasy decision of leaving them behind and jumping ships back to HTC. I recently bought the HTC One and have a few questions.
I had the first HTC Desire as well as the HTC Flyer, but I was extremely disappointed at the fact that HTC decided to pull support from both of these devices after just being a few months in the market. They touted both of these devices at all conferences before launch and then cut the support to them. As a result, I wanted to move away from HTC, but unfortunately I'm back because WP/Nokia option didn't work out for me. I just want to know how HTC is doing in terms of supporting their devices? Is it still very difficult to root their devices?
Is there anything in general I've missed for the past 8 months?
Also, from personal experience, how is the Lumia 920 camera vs the HTC One?
HTC hasn't proven any different yet, there's still no official 4.2.2 even.
However, thanks to the Google edition you'll be able to get the best support possible should you choose to unlock the device and put a custom recovery on it to flash GE roms (or if you just buy the Google edition). May even be possible to change CID and flash an RUU and get direct updates like a Nexus device once it's available.
Dev support is great for the One. You can unlock the boot loader on HTCDev and flash a recovery right from fastboot. Easiest non-nexus I've worked with
As far as cameras are concerned, I'm convinced the lumia 920 has a superior camera - Nokia probably has the best on any smartphone, great quality, good low light shots, etc. Not to say the One is bad (its actually quite good in my experience so far), but it's not as good as what you have on the higher end lumia devices.
Otherwise, the One is far superior to the 920 in every way - at least in my opinion.
But welcome back you seem to have the same problem as most android/iOS to WP converts.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for your reply!
I really wish Nokia made an Android option, but regardless. I was happy to see that there will be a GE version of the HTC One, which would mean that even if HTC decides to pull the plug, at least the updates from google and developers from XDA will keep the device going!
I've actually had a lot of friends that went with the iphone that can't wait for their contracts to be up so they can switch to android. they're not having much luck with iOS
Seriously if Nokia will have android, they will be on top of Samsung, HTC etc with their good hardware design.
Too bad Microsoft has brainwashed Nokia. Nokia should get into the Android game while making WP as well. The more choices we have...the better.
Sent from the "ONE" for me
I also jumped back to Android from my Lumia 920,I still keep it because its a great phone, really like the OS, but missed some work apps (Logmein & GFI) ,im really pleased with the ONE, been trough a lot Android devices and the ONE is perfection for an Android Device.

How could you possibly think of leaving the android community? I am thrilled you came to your "sense"s though (pun intented)
I've had the Lumia 800 for coming up to two years now and shortly I'll be due an upgrade. I'm tempted to go for the Lumia 925 as I like the layout of Windows Mobile. I would hate to go back to a none windows phone with their rows and rows of boring icons which don't do anything. However, I'm acutely aware of the shortage of major apps for Windows Mobile which was slightly holding me back, that is, until I purchased a Nexus 7 a few months back. The Nexus Tablet now gives me access to pretty much any app I desire. Therefore, I'm now pretty close to deciding to go with the 925.
I just wondered if any members had done the same upgrade, from the 800 to the 925, and what their experiences have been, good or bad. You will know that Lumia 800 users were recently upgraded to Windows 7.8 as opposed to the 7.5 version after Microsoft saw fit to leave us behind with the advent of windows 8 mobile. Following the 7.8 upgrade I now have access to re-sizeable tiles etc. and various other things found on Windows 8 mobile, so I have a slight idea what windows 8 mobile might be like.
Basically what I'm wanting is for somebody to say, yay it's a good idea, or nay, it isn't.
Many thanks.
Shaun
Happy
Shaun,
I just swapped from my trusty 800 to a black 32GB 925 on VF UK. I got a 6GB 3G + 6GB 4G deal. I did consider getting a 1020, which I think is even better, but right now they are just too expensive for me.
The 925 is brilliant, I'm running the GDR3 update. Getting WP8 apps like Bing News and Nokia Camera, and all the other little tweaks has made my phone experience exciting again.
Looking back at an 800 now, makes it seem like a small, toy'ish phone by comparison.
No regrets whatsoever.
