Nandroid restores / Partition formatting - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Forgive me if this is in the wrong area. I am not new to Android / rooting, but new to posting in forums.
When a nandroid backup is restored, will it reformat the phone to the file system that was used in the original backup?
Say you take a stock backup of a phone using rfs. Then you format it to use ext4 and install a custom rom. In order to restore that backup, would you first have to reformat to rfs?
Thanks in advance...

help regarding backups and flashing roms

i'm actually new to this stuff, i've been trying different roms to find what's more suitable for me and i have one problem.
the guides said that when you install a new rom, you have to wipe data and then flash your sd cards, but doingso erases all my apps and everything else, is there anyway to backup those stuff and easily restore them after i've installed a new rom? thank you so much in advance for your help.

Use titanium backup to backup your apps and app data before flashing rom's.
but where will the titanium backup store the backup if i'm supposed to wipe my sd?

First wipe and partition your SD and reboot. Use titanium now to backup all apps. Also now you can copy anything to SD. For example download rom now and flash. As partition already there, no need to partition again.

[Q] Nandroid Backup

Q1:
I have root + CWM Recovery from CF-root.
Im on stock TouchWiz 5.0 and all stock from Samsung. Only thing I've done is the CF-Root.
If i make a nandroid backup now in CWM recovery before I install a custom rom, will I then later, if I want to go back to the stock Touchwiz and firmware, CSC etc. Can i just restore the backup?
Or do I still need to flash stock firmware and that through Odin?
Q2:
If i make the backup to the Internal SD Card, will using the Wipe data/factory reset in CWM recovery, remove my backup?
Q3:
How much space does a backup take?

1. Yes you must restore Nanbackup from the same Rom you made the Backup with.
2. I think yes, so make Nanbackup in ExtSd, I think is factory default in ExtSd, at least mine does it...
3. About 2Gb

[Q] When recovering/reverting back to a nandroid, necessary to wipe first?

If I need to restore a nandroid do I need to wipe/factory reset everything prior as instructed when installing new roms?
Or if I need to restore a nandroid can I just boot into cwm, go to restore nandroid, restore and go?
Is there a difference?
Just restore the nandroid. Recovery first formats all partitions and then copies the backup images. It's all automatic, so it's redundant if you format manually first and then restore.

Backup needed?

I rooted my new sgs3 i9350 and installed cwm. Do I need to do a backup? And how exactly do I do it. So new to all of this, thanks

You can use titanium backup for game save, app, message.. backup.
Cwm recovery/backup and restore/ choose wether you want to backup to internal or external sd (I suggest external)....this will basically make a complete system image that you can restore if anything goes wrong, also backup your efs and copy backups to computer.
Backup user apps and system with Titanium as well.

Restore pictures folder

Hello
I just change the ROM, and I realized that I was missing pictures, probably a folder that was not on the SD card (I did wipe all expect SD card).
And i saw my GoBackup app (premium), did not backup these photos ..
But I have a nandroid backup, complete.
How can I restore my photos only? (knowing that I restored the file / data, but there is nothing. Is there an app that takes care of backups and restores what we want?
Regards
PS : if i'm in the wrong section, is it possible to switch the place of my thread ? tks !
Restore nandroid, find where photos are saved, move to PC or SD, flash new ROM again and add photos

If i make this, with nandroid, do you think that all will work correctly, like my apps, my phone, my wifi, ?? Or i can have some problems or not ?
The nandroid restores all partitions as they were, its a snap shot.

So, i won't have any problems ? Just the time it will take to me ?
That's the point of a nandroid
Make nandroid
Wipe clean
Flash ROM
Play with ROM
Make nandroid
Wipe clean
Restore old nandroid
....
Just do this at each ROM flash and you'll be happy
