Looking for a light/stripped down ROM or some way of making the ROM not show any programs that relates as a phone. My goal is to just use it via wifi and spotify, and I don't want my youngest kids grab the phone and dial emergency calls.. Someway of remove the "phone functions"
I didn't remove the phone function, but hacked Rosie to show and link to 'Music' instead of 'Phone' and the right button was also remapped to go to the browser. Would that be sufficient?
Hmmm... With AppAdmin, you can delete system apks... I wonder what would happen if you delete Phone.apk...

It will probably start FC'ing until you reboot, I'm not sure what happens after the reboot though.

Yes, it is.
Just saw this today and remembered this thread.
"Any phone, any ROM: Wi-Fi only mode (disable cell radio)"

Removes unnecessary apps (Messaging.apk, Phone.apk, TelephonyProvider.apk)
Completely turns off cell radio on bootup
Installs the radiooptions binary in case your ROM does not include it"

JobManager.apk -- is this the task manager that came with 2.1-update1 and can it be removed without causing the phone any distress?
I had that same question....if youre rooted then download titanium backup from the market....find the task manager in the home screen of the app....press and hold it till a menu comes up and click uninstall...and it'll be gone...hope this helps

I wouldnt. I did and now my phone hates me. Am trying to find a way to reinstal.
Hit the thanks button
jobmanager.apk is the task managerr application. Its safe to remove, and if you want a task manager, you can always get a different one from the market.

I removed it and nkw i no longer have a taskmanager. It force boots my phone whenever i try to use task manager which sucks cause i have trouble multitasking. Might as well have an ipad, lol!
In all seriousness, it seems to be tied in to your os. Removing it seems to cause unwanted problems. I woild bloat freeze it and test drive for awhile first.
Hit thanks if i helped
Yes, if you remove the app, and then use the link from long pressing your home button to try to access the application that is no longer there, you will get a force close.
I always remove it, never use the link to try to open the app that I removed, and I never have a problem.
Hit thanks if I made even a bit of sense.
On Eclair I did this and had noticed the task manager button was removed after a reboot when I uninstalled task manager. This is not the case with Froyo though. I wish I could find a way to remove the button.

Do you know how to get it back? I was trying to backit up, but uninstalled it by accident.
I originally want, and still do the old 2.2 galaxy tab one. It was was better. Had two levels of ram clearence among other things and used to get me down to 142 ram new one only cleared down to like 200

Yes, flash this through Clockwork Recovery, will restore the JobManager.apk
I can't figure out how to uninstall call recorder. It FC on every call that comes in and I don't record calls anyways. I tried under applications but the uninstall option is greyed out. Didn't see anything under BAMF tools either.
I would love an answer on this, too
just use root explorer or any file manager to delete the apk out of the system/app folder. It's super easy to do I used titanium backup to delete mine and it worked fine.
I have an uninstaller of sorts I will be posting in a bit.

In the meantime you can just uncheck recording calls in the preferences.

Done that, just hate the Superuser prompt popping up all the time.
It doesn't pop up at all for me after unchecking that box...

In Astro go to system, app, then find call recorder and hold your finger on it until some options pop up. Click on the edit option then there will be an option to delete.

In titanium backup you can go to the backup/restore tab, find call recorder and hold your finger on it. There should be an option to remove by some kind of exploit. I don't have the app anymore to try that method but it could work.
Hey guys,
Long time reader, first time poster.
First, I am loving Bamf nte. Loving!
I just have a simple question:
In the pull down notification bar, where the recently used Apps are located on stock, there's just an empty space. Is there a way to get recently used Apps or something like settings goggles to appear there? The empty space is driving me bonkers.
I know I can long press the home button to bring up recently used Apps as well I'm just so used to having them in the drop down bar. Any help would be appreciated and again, fantastic work on a great rom.

There's supposed to be controls like wifi, bluetooth, etc. Did you flash this using ROM Manager? I had this same exact problem flashing with ROM manager, I went back and flashed manually in clockwork and it fixed the problem.
You need to remove
I know this post is old but it is the first one that shows up so I thought I might add this:
You need to remove the application from the device administration list.
For device administration: Menu -> Settings -> Security ->Device administration.
Firstly, I want to say that the ROM is fantastic, I'm loving it!
Recently Im coming into issues, though. Any websi te with flash. Its saying I need flash, and when I go to the market to update flash, it says its not compatible with my phone.. in fact. A lot of apps on the market are saying not compatible with my phone now.. Any ideas? Thanks
Bump... Need a fix please =/
Samething is happening with mine too.

Bump..... Please help?
First, get titanium backup. Completely uninstall flash via TB, then reboot. Download flash from the market and it should work fine.
If after that you end up with flash audio but no sound, then you need to get an app called " root explorer " and edit a system file to fix it. I can't remember off the top of my head which file and where but that issue was discussed in the liquid 3.0 thread, maybe 3.1, not too sure now.
Signature.
I found the reason apps are saying "not compatible" with your device. Apparently my google profile has my phone and two other randomly named devices on it... Anyone know how to get rid of the useless ones? I cannot for the life of me find where to delete these device profiles...

I haven't been able to delete them, but you can hide them from device lists in the Market and they won't give you that problem
on the webpage, click on the settings wheel in the top left corner --> my market account --> settings tab, click edit on any devices you don't use --> hidden in menus (under visibility), and make sure you hit update
I'm trying that, but this is absolutely ridiculous. There are three devices listed, and when I click to hide two of then, only one is hidden and the other two show, no matter what....
Turns out that this is a known issue to google, they're working on a fix. Hopefully soon, and hopefully the cause (and fix) behind all this.
So I disabled the Phone/people app from stock because I couldn't find a way to stop the phone from vibrating profusely when people called me. (Hate vibrate unless ringer is off, waste of battery to me) So anyway cannot find a way to enable the stock app again. Running Fresh's ROM
Just reflash the Rom, it should copy the system files back to where they belong.
Yeah I figured I could reflash or restore a nandroid but am trying to avoid that until this whole Google Wallet BS gets figured out. I really don't care about using Wallet (would like to use the 10 bucks I was promised) but don't want to brick NFC in anyway whether it is Wallet or another program.

Did you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the app list(not the app drawer but the list under settings>apps>all)? That's where stuff hangs out when you disable it instead of staying in alphabetical order. This is assuming you disabled it in settings>apps>all apps
Thanks, for some reason the search option is not popping up in my window right now. It was at the bottom of said list. Mods lock if you feel necessary.
[Q] How to remove annoying message "clear default app settings by going to settings"
Hello guys
Since JB on SGS3, my phone KEEPS asking me to set defaults for the same things, really bloody annoying.
"Clear defaults
Clear default app settings by going to settings > applications manager > all"
An utter pain in the arse. Anyone found a way to make Touchwiz remember defaults or to stop giving this newbie bollocks message?
I'd love some brainy hacker to make it gooo away!

Mark.
Titanium -> backup/restore -> TouchWiz -> freeze
Make sure you have a proper launcher already loaded, like ADW/Nova etc.

thanks mate, i will try that!
i am thinking though, wouldnt freezing touchwiz also stop the (FANTASTIC) features of samsung, like the "stay on" feature and the excellent Samsung Calendar? Major reasons why I would never go back to Cyanogenmod.

NOPE!
after a reboot it is back to square one, the message comes up again.
there has got to be a way to make the system remember that stuff, surely?!
EDIT
not quite square one... it seems files I have opened before using a specific app will continue to work with that app automatically, but if I, for example, open a pdf document in Maildriod and tell it to open with Adobe reader, then click on the same PDF in the GMail app, it will ask me again... so it seems to be based on the app it is coming FROM and not the type of link/file you are clicking on. Pretty daft IMO.

No, Samsung apps are independent of TouchWiz and will work with any launcher.
The only repeating request for default I've experienced is when I left TouchWiz in after I'd added ADW - it came up after each boot to ask which launcher I wanted and then ignored the 'always' bit. After I frozen TouchWiz it's all working as expected, opening each file type responds with the app I've chosen to use with it (from the launcher).
I just tried the exact test you describe, opening a .pdf in two apps. After I'd set the option from each app it remembers the setting - but it just doesn't appear to be a system wide setting, like it would be in Windows.
If it keeps asking the same question from the same app then you may have a problem, otherwise I think it's just the way JB works.

I will check, though my nexus 10 tablet NEVER has a message telling me that I can clear default app settings... so it's not a google thing but a samsung one.
I will see over a week or so if it does remember, though i guess with each rom update I have to enter all the bloody defaults again... one of the down sides of customising rom's frequently.
cheers
Mark.

Not for me, I cannot get that message to stop, My phone remembered no defaults before root or since. In fact rooting was the biggest waste of time I can think of, its changed nothing
why did you root if you didn't know what you needed it for?
