So, got a phone from a friend, X10 - not rooted, which does not work at all.
Whenever I want to turn it on, LED just blinks 3 times, that's all I "got"
I have tried removing battery, SDCard and SIM Card but still no go!
Any idea or help would be much appreciated
try this
use the flash tool and reflash a 2.1 sony rom you can easily get your phone to dev mode even with out having to turn it on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
you must get back on track after that!
Ok, will try it
Not working, Downloaded Flash Tool and 2.1 *.ftf image, when I press flash and select image, I press on back button and connect X10, but no go, Flash toll says: 9/044/2011 17:44:23 - INFO - Searching Xperia....
19/044/2011 17:44:23 - ERROR - Please plug you device in flash mode
And X10 only gives impulsing red LED light!
Try with SEUS, wich will install the flash drivers for X10 in your PC, I assume you're using Windows.
Or look for these drivers, can't give you the link right now, some research will help.
I installed PcCompanion before Flash Toll, will try with this software, but I am sure it will be same...will see soon!
bah....same
a few months back ago i remember someone solving this problem... try searching the forums
NVM. Found it, there you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944322&highlight=red+led+death
Nice one, will try it later today!
Does not help, after I connect it to charger (with removed battery) there is green light, but after I add battery after one/two mins led turns off, and whatever I press Xperia does not respond!
I tried than removing it from charger and turning on, but same, no response, after I remove and add battery, if I try to turn it on Red LED of death is still here.....

If u can mesure the battery voltage, and if is below 3V it seems the battery will not receive any more current and the phone need more power to bootup than charger can provide, or phone detect the low level and don't start. This is a theory. If it's above 3.7V the problem is from other part.

the ultima looks like k800i with full touch scree. i like it!!!
hey Benko, if ya dont want it, ill take it off your hands, ill even pay shipping!
had to ask
I tested my theory about battery level and seems to be right at first look. I put a DC power supply instead of the battery an if i put about 3.2 V and below then i connect the usb cable to PC the phone don't start only flash a red led and start pumping about 3.6V for charging the li--poly battery. so the problem seems to be the battery. The problem with li-poly battery is if them drop voltage below 3.4 V is very hard to charge them back.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
Now what u have is to try to put about 4V on the phone terminals an to see if it starts.
go to ebay and buy a new battery
The evidence points to a bad battery. Head to your local wireless store and ask them for a compatible battery to test it out.
Charge the battery with a 5VDC power source, take one usb cable and cut it to get the wires, then use the computer or the original charger to force some juice into the battery.

Possible solution!!!

Well, i may be wrong, but as i have been able and still use batteries that already have completed 10 years i can tell that (not confirmed) this battery starts at 3.2v and is fully charged near 4v.
I just checked my battery is charged at 90% and measuring it i got 3,93v
The best way to know for sure if it is the battery or not is to get a source with at least 500ma to supply a recharge directly to your battery, if it starts getting hot above like 40ºc you should disconnect wait to cool and reconnect until gets near at least 3,9v.
To make sure the battery is charging try to measure the amount of current ma it is charging at.
If the battery is nearly dead or dead it will still charge but in speeds like less then 10ma above this it will be charging but will take a day maybe, but you must take care on this, the current will grow as the battery gets charged exponentially.
Once charged at near 3,9v input the battery without closing the back cover and check if it works.
Wait it to cool**** you need to wait really at least a bit so you can notice if it is getting hot again on next step.
Once the phone turns on, check if the battery is getting hot again even a bit.
The battery can't get to hot only by turning the phone on, if this happens your phone can have one of two problems:
Phone has a short, sorry, damm.
Phone has a software(rom) that is draining the power.
Using external power to connect to the phone while it is connect to usb or power source can break your phone, don't do that never.
Charging voltage must be at start near 4v to 4,5v, if it gets to charge to fast keep an eye on it to not get too hot, it can even blow if passes beyond 70ºc (i melt plastic once doing this, rsrs)
I hope this works, took me awhile to check the correct voltage for this, rsrsrsrs
It seems my power adaptor has died..
I have been using it daily with no problem, and charged it over night last night.
I got a new stand today and moved the power supply to a new location, shifting the transformer with the adaptor still plugged in.
From that point on, no charging...
the cable is good cos it still shows up on the PC, although I guess it could be partially broken.
I have tried leaving the power adaptor unplugged for an hour or so, but no luck.
Anyone else have suggestions?
Is it possible that you bent a pin in the slot on the pad that you plug the charger into? Alternatively, you could take apart and reseat the 2 pieces
of the charger itself.
Pins in the pad seem fine, same on the charger.
I just turned it off to see if I could get it to charge from a USB hub on my PC, but it seems not.
This points to the cable being at fault, but with no replacements available I am still stuck with a discharging tablet.
Very Frustrating... I guess I will be Calling Asus support on Monday.
Its a shame Comet is out of stock locally, or I would walk into store for an exchange

charging thru a PC usb hub is slow...the ac adapter is rated at 15v 1.2a...and a PC hub is only 5v .5a i think...
Anyone know what the adapters for the other tablets are rated at?

I realise its slow, but I would expect SOMETHING after leaving the TF plugged in for almost an hour turned off!
This might sound ridiculous but unplug the usb cable from the power brick, unplug the power brick from the wall, set them aside....then wait a while (20+ minutes), then come back to it and try to plug it back in.
I had this same exact problem but I did the steps I told you and it began charging again. I'm not sure how or why though.

EDIT: On second thoughts, no this isn't the case.
Plugging in the PSU normally turns the tablet on, and currently it isnt doing that.

What is your battery percentage at? Anything above 90, and it won't charge until it drops below. Kind of a built in failsafe.

Ah yes, it is above 90%, but I am sure it would show the charging icon?
I can only hope this is a false alarm, I will be less annoyed then..
Nope, won't show the charging icon. What I've done, if you want to ease the paranoia, lol, is hold the power button down and keep holding until the device shuts off completely. (do this with the plug disconnected) .. Now, plug the charger back in to the device. The device should power on, and you should boot up to a charging icon.
If it doesn't start up, then yeah, you may have a faulty charger. Let me know how it goes.

Worth a try, but no, nothing...
Then just let it run down passed 90% (like 88-89%) and see if it charges. If not, then yeah, sorry.

It does on mine.
Little tip for you all... don't leave it charging overnight. It may be a bit late advice for some, but for others it might help them ending up with a useless power adapter. Unplug it when it gets to 100%. Get an app that alerts you with a sound, signaling when the battery is full. Battery monitor widget does this. Also unplug it soon after its done charging. This is assuming you don't care about battery life of course.
If you DO care about it then charging it up to 100% all the time isn't a good way to keep your battery healthy in the first place. Loads of guides on the web for Lithium Ion battery care.
There's obviously a problem with the adapter design, due to the amount of threads talking about this very issue, when people leave them charging all night. Maybe they are overheating, or some other reason. Prevention is better than cure.

Over heating might well be the issue, I am getting that sweet smell of cooked circuit board from the PSU.
Not meaning it to charge over night will be annoying, I like things ready to go come the AM

Yeah I agree it shouldnt happen. Just saying I think it is. Pretty sure there are guidelines and safety features that are applied to all power supplies to make them safe for use in the home, at least there are in the EU, and it seems these ones are in violation of those guidelines, even though they have the CE approved label. If you are smelling something burning/melting its obviously faulty and needs to be replaced.
Well I tried comet for the warrenty and was directed to the asus support line, which is closed today.
How dull.

Is using the Desire charger just as slow at using a normal (5V) USB hub?
I'm no engineer but aren't there safeguards built into a charger/battery that is operating normally? ie: put TF on charger overnight, battery draws power till full then stops charging?
I use my TF all day, at night it goes on the charger, at no time does my charger get "hot" to the touch.

WHo knows the answer to this question?
My new battery won't charge. I let the phone die/run out till it shut down. Now when I plug it in the red/orange led lights for approx 4 secs and shuts off. This is a new battery and I have no reason to believe it is damaged. I ran it for about 7-10 days. I had a similar issue with the stock battery a month ago- It ran out and I rebooted it till it wouldn't boot anymore to try to re calibrate the battery and it was almost impossible to get it to take a charge again. But with this one I'm not able to get it to take a charge, and apparently it's so low it won't boot the phone.
My Question- is there information that gets written to the battery? Could it be that the battery is reporting some type of bad information to not allow the phone to take a charge ? Anyone know of a possible fix?
FYI- I am able to boot the phone on my old stock battery so I'm not in real trouble. Thanks in advance.
Buy a wall charger from ebay and charge your battery from the wall charger.
Yea, sounds like your battery needs a bit of a jump start.
There are two ways of doing this,
1. As stated above get a wall charger and charge the battery up a bit that way then boot up,
2. If you don't want to buy a wall charger there is a way to give it bit of a charge by splicing a usb cable. Then touching certain wires to certain electrodes on the battery itself.
Google is your friend in case number 2. I don't want to give you any wrong info, I saw a post about this when I first came to xda, couldn't find it again tho.
Hit thanks if I've helped, and if you need help finding a tutorial to use the usb method let me kno, I will look for it again when i get home from work this afternoon.

I replaced my old Droid X a long time ago. Eventually the battery swelled and I threw it away.. so my old X currently has no battery. When I plug it into PC USB, nothing at all happens. If I plug it into wall power, the Motorola logo comes up, then a few moments later a big emtpy battery icon appears with a question mark in it. I can't get it to go anywhere from there.
Is there some kind of key combination I can push to force it to boot into the OS or is a battery, even a dead one, required to operate the device?
I just want to tinker around with it.
You are going to need some sort of battery. My X's battery lasts a grand total of 27 seconds after boot but as long as it's there I can flash roms and turn it on. I had an issue where I had to flash a rom to charge it and I couldn't flash a rom till it was charged.. I looked everywhere for a way to use it without the battery but the only one was to find a charged battery. I ended up borrowing a friends' battery.

interesting to know. I've tried charging my battery with a USB charger and it takes forever to get any type of charge. I am surprised to hear you could boot the phone with a USB.
What would happen if you short out the battery contacts while it's plugged in? Would that trick the phone into thinking there's a battery in place?
please help my moto g power just went into a bootloop with crDroidAndroid-11.0-20211014-sofiar-v7.11 latest running rom .

It needs a fair amount of current during boot up, a charger may not supply enough.
Batteries last 1-3 years. I just look at replacing them as part of normal maintenance.
Get it out of there before it fails... any swelling is an Li failure which can cause severe damage.
hey thanks for the info
I tried to start from stock using Rescue tool from motorola
everything went normal but now i tried to boot up and nothing happens even with the charger plug in
any help thanks

Try replacing the battery, then go from there.
It may be a dead end but you need to eliminate it as the cause. You could also check it's voltage after a failed boot to get an idea of it's condition.
Fully charge it first... and don't short it out while measuring it. Measure before and right after boot attempt with no charger.
4.3 volts is about 100%
3.9 volts is about 70%
3.5 volts is about 20%
Since it's a no load reading at 100% it should be near 4.3 volts. After the attempt if it drops below 4 volts it's likely toast.
Thanks
But isn't the display supposed to turn on when I plug in the charger
Not even the display shows anything..

Probably time to have it examined. May be a loose connector, a C-port or a mobo failure.
Or may be from a bad flash...
