[Q] ICS NEE - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question about flashing the NEE (Nordic) version of ICS I'd like to sort out.
Inside my downloaded ZIP-file, only 2 files reside;
I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 and a DLL-file that I have no idea what it's for.
But here comes my question, in every guide I read, they say I should pick and choose PDA, Phone and CSC. Files which I don't have. (Nor are they inside the tar-file listed above), so what to do?

First things first, make a new thread, ignoring the zillion other threads.
Then stick the .tar.md5 file in the PDA section and ignore the .dll.
Later on, make new threads about every problem you encounter rather than reading and searching.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm actually not one of the people who thinks im the only one to have a question or problem, but I actually looked quite a few pages back and also tried to search for several keywords without finding anything useful. Sorry for my ignorance, I need to learn to search better. Again though, thanks.
And to add to my stupidness, as I couldn't find anything about that either, will this file automagiclly include CSC and Phone?

So much easier from mobile odin, you just have to chose that one file and flash and it puts everything where you want. Try mobile odin from market (play w/e)

I got the same ROM from Fus Downloader and tried to flash it with heimdall. Tried several times, it sill complained the file was wrong or corrupt when reading/extracting it. Could it be that fus has a problem with this file?

Heimdall wants a xml file as well; If it's not there then you can't flash it
(been there, tried that)

Doesn't mobile odin require root ?? - I for one don't want root - just a newer software (?)

Problem with Odin - can't root or install

I am not a noob and have flashed hundreds of time so please refrain from posting without helping.
I have searched a lot but could not find any similar thread.
So I am posting here.
I have inadvertently flagged "re-partition" when flashing an official Rom with Odin and now when trying to flash any different Rom I can't go through the entire process - same thing when trying to flash some clockworkmod recovery.
Error is like in the image that I am posting here.
No way to have some other remedy.
Could you help me please?
since you flashed official rom, you may need to root it from the beginning. did you try this?

but to give you a little hint (eventhough everyone is going to hate me cause i answered and even made an attempt to help) look for roms which are MADE to be flashed WITH repartition enabled (you will need a pit file as well). also: your phone aint rooted. root it via odin and then have a look.
@mods: please delete thread
ok hard reset the phone by going into the Samsung recovery i think its volume up + power + home, but Google the hard reset procedure or YouTube it, after hard resetting root it and it should be ok, hope this helps, all the best.

Get firmware, get .pit file for Galaxy S2 use Odin with .pit and repartition enabled to flash the firmware.
Actually, you don't really need a *.pit file, you can also use a Sbl.bin file.
You aren't really using an official rom, more like someone's dump of an official rom. It might be missing stuff, or have stuff added.
Official ROM contents: (Inside the *.tar file)
boot.bin
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zImage
It seems that the partitions are all gone, therefore your phone is unable to mount partitions that are already gone. Fortunately, your bootloader is still working which is why you are able to access your download mode, and somehow still able to access your recovery, which is probably written into the only intact partition.
Download an OFFICIAL ROM with a *.pit or Sbl.bin file which contains the partition information, and then use ODIN to flash again.
Your EFS might be missing as well, so the modem might not be able to work. Modem is the one that controls your phone calls and data through GSM/WCDMA.
Use Fus Downloader 2.0 and download the latest FULL OFFICIAL ROM for your phone, then flash and repartition your phone.
Now that I have helped...
YOU ARE A NOOB!!!
unzip u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.zip
use odin, click pit select u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit,click start

[Q] Stuck at Gingerbread.XXKG3

Hello,
I have done multiple wipes and resets in attempt to get a different build number on my SGS II and to no avail. I always boot into GINGERBREAD.XXKG3 no matter the kernel or anything else.
Should I just manually put an update on a SD card and see if that works? Or does that really matter?

How are you updating ???
Wipe or reset will not give you a different build number .
If you install KG3 thats what you boot into .
Typical would be to flash a stock rom of a later build .
jje
I am using Odin, from what I had read, I thought all you had to do is put the update in the "pda" section and there you go, what would I have to do to flash it?
Basics are always to follow the instructions with the relevant rom .
Stock Roms .and csc

I have followed that guide multiple times and used multiple roms, and I am still stuck at XXKG3 no matter what file I download and stuck at 2.3.4

No offense, but if you followed that guide multiple times and are still on the same firmware as when you started, then either you are flashing XXKG3 on top of XXGK3, or you are doing it wrong. That guide has worked for countless other people.
none taken, you said that I am flashing it on top of the previous build, how do I remove the previous build?
Post details of the file you are using and how you use .
Fifty Million Odin flashers cannot be wrong .

I am not saying they are wrong, I am just trying to figure out a problem.
I download the XXKI3 package, I put the kernel in PDA, modem in phone and CSC with CSC, leave autoboot and f.reset time on, I dont touch re partition or flash lock or anything else. I also do not touch pit. I make sure the phone is download mode, then click start. It passes, I go into build version and it still says XXKG3.

Well that reads to me either you are downloading from some other site or you are for some reason using xda stock rom but not following the instructions and it looks like you are trying to split the file .
jje
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:02 PM ----------
Download KI3 from the stock roms thread .
Extract the TAR by double clicking the download .
OPEN ODIN put tar to PDA
Put phone to download mode and follow instructions on download screen
Connect SAMSUNG usb cable should now show yellow block in Odin flash .

You don't remove. What I was suggesting was that you were flashing KG3 over your existing KG3. Meaning flashing what you already have.
But after reading what you are doing, I don't think that is the case, and you are definitely doing it wrong. Follow JJEgan's directions.
You should only have one .tar file if you downloaded from Intratech's thread, which should be going into the PDA. You shouldn't have to put anything in CSC or modem.
If you are downloading from a different thread, then you should probably follow instructions from wherever you are downloading from.
Perhaps you should follow the instructions on this site . seems pretty foolproof to me...
Here for ICS for example...
Ok I have done it, and it still says gingerbread.xxkg3
Thank you for all your help, I am done with this I'll just deal with it

Ok, but one more question. (I'm just trying to help)
I'm also on KI3.
In Intratech's thread, I'm assuming you're getting XXKI3 from this section:
XXKI3
Firmware info
PDA:XXKI3
PHONE: XXKI3
Date: 15/09/2011
Android 2.3.5
XEO (Poland): http://www.multiupload.com/XTRG43JVEG
XXKI3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/6XT83N1LLN
Password: [email protected]
Click to collapse
Well, when you say you are downloading the tar, are you downloading from the 1st line (that says "XEO (Poland)"), or the second line (that says "XXKI3 Stock Kernel")??
If you're using the stock kernel line, then yes, all you're doing is flashing the kernel. You'll never update your firmware that way. The firmware update is the first download.
The stock kernel is there just to be available if you wanted to flash an insecure kernel for root, and need it to flash back the stock kernel to get rid of the /!\ symbol that displays during boot.

So you're only flashing a kernel, not a ROM.

need odin pit file.

Does anyone have the pit file for this phone? Need to repartition. Found it for the n7000 but not the i717. Thanks in advance.
Oh sure. Lots of people have it.

If you go to samfirware.com you will see which Pit's go with each firmware, 512 is the most common, dont risk it...check!
I'm pretty sure they are available there as well...
and do not !!!...change the file names inside the tarballs....= instant brick...IMHO
And I did a little searching for you...see if this helps as well....g

[Q] GS3 cant flash in download mode with odin

Hi guys I would really appreciate some help with a problem I have with my UK GS3 1900. I have recently rooted and flashed it with a couple of different roms courtesy of the info on this forum and have been using lucky patcher to remove ads and license verification on a few apps I was trying. I installed SPB shell recently and used Lucky patcher on it and it seemed to have worked but this morning there was a message saying there was a problem with the license and to download another one from the playstore. Then my phone rebooted and it got stuck on boot logo so I tried to enter recovery holding down power+home+volume up but this wouldnt give me the recovery screen. I have read a lot of articles about how to reflash it with Odin but I am a little confused. I am trying to flash it with the zip file firmwares I downloaded but this obviously doesnt work as it is asking for .tar or .bin files and none of these show up when I am using ODIN. What firmware would I need to download to give me these files and then using Odin how would I install it. Any help is appreciated I have looked at all the threads before I posted this and cant find a solution. Some say to use pit files but I wasnt sure which ones and I didnt want to mess things anymore.

GT-I9300_I9300XXDLI8-OTA-I9300XXBLG8_BTU_297718496 this is the file I downloaded originally and then from another post I found this file I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_I9300XXELL4_BTU downloaded and there was KIES_HOME_I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_566833_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 this file in there and when I went to flash it with ODIN it came up with an error message and it fails in Odin. Is this the correct file cos when I went into the sammobile site put it my device details it gave me a 250mb file which never had a tar or md5 file in it.

Dead S3, not rooted

My nephew's S3 doesn't boot anymore (stuck at Sammy logo). I can still access recovery and download mode.
I tried to do a factory reset, but it crashes. Something about CSC missing.
I downloaded firmware from Sam firmware and tried to flash it manually via Odin, but that failed as well.
Any tips on what to do?
I just adder the .tar file in the PDA section, didn't alter any other check boxes and clicked start. As soon as it's writing the system, it says FAILED.
