thanks man! appreciate it.. i know that the atrix have quadband for gsm which supports 900/1800 here in the phils and for the 3G, the band here is 2100, why it wont work? ... and other than updating manually, can i update it via wi-fi?
The 2100 band is the problem. AT&T Atrix doesn't support that band.
I don't think the OTA works using wifi but you can download the stock update using wifi and apply it.
CORRECTION: it does support the 2100 3G frequency. I didn't understand the whole WCDMA vs GSM thing correctly
i have read some old reviews when it is still in Froyo and there are a lot of complaints about the laggy pinch to zoom of Atrix.. how is the pinch to zoom of pictures in Atrix GB?
I have not experienced any problems. The zoom is very responsive
well i just hope someone who bought an unlocked at&t Atrix from the US and used it here in the Philippines would post their experience about the phone. i have read from different sites and forums that they have complaints about Atrix connectivity like wi-fi and bluetooth in different countries.
it's just too bad only few people here in the Philippines use Atrix.
I used my phone in the philippines. I was able to get internet on it. Not sure it was 3g but it was the h+ symbol on both smart and globe. I went to their offices to help set it up. Just remember, most places won't have 3g yet especially those place that don't support smartbro or globe broadband which uses the 3g signal I believe. Just ask for help there.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same standards around the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those complaints.
The issue with GSM coverage is that the phone must support the frequency bands for the local carrier's equipment, and the carrier must support the specific GSM standards (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSUPA, LTE, etc.) that the phone is capable of. The Atrix 4G does indeed support 2100 MHz but as other folks have noted in this thread, the main carriers in the Phils (Smart and Globe) don't support HSPA+.

im quite confused about that 3G thing.. your post was right.. Philippines do not belong to the list of HSUPA networks.. but when I viewed the list of HSDPA networks, Philippines was there.. (i could not share the link for the meantime, 3 more posts needed).. this got me really confused.. im afraid i cannot use internet services by ISP.. maybe wi-fi only..
thank you guys for helping.. i really appreciate it.

I'd be interested to see your link, but if it came from the same site as the one where folks think that wi-fi and BT won't work in the Phils. then again, I wouldn't put much stock in that claim. HSPA upgrades aren't cheap and with 1 Peso per minute calling plans I don't think the carriers there have much of an upgrade budget. (My wife is a Filipina and has had GSM phones here in the states ever since AT&T has been selling them.)

No problem with the questions.
I don't recall if my Atrix had an option for SMS delivery reports prior to me applying the OTA update to GB. I don't see that option now, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. In any event that sounds like a feature of the Android OS (if it actually exists). So if it's lacking (or present ) on other Android phones then I would expect the same for the Atrix.
thanks andy for the informative replies. Im quite relieved now after i have read the previous post by mamoranto.
because i have have had 5 GSM phones from the states which came from different carriers and i have no idea on their specific details (because mostly are gifts), out of the 5 phones only 2 phones are used for "all around, daily purposes" because here in the philippines, texting is the number purpose of a phone. does the Atrix have sent items/messages stored after you send an sms?
sorry for my noobish questions.

Well I stand corrected.
The "Globe Telecom" page on Wikipedia claims both 3G and HSDPA support on their networks. Apparently they've just begun rolling out WiMAX in Metro Manila and points south as well. This page reads like marketing copy, so I assume this info comes straight from Globe.
Dang...wish I was in the Philippines again!
oooppss sorry for the previous post... it was answered.

I think *every* phone in the Phils originally came from the states, LOL. Or at least that's the way with my wife's family. My sis-in-law just got my daughter's barely-used iPhone 3Gs, and my niece there just got my wife's BlackBerry Curve (wife and daughter had to get new iPhone 4).
Are you gonna buy this Atrix new there? You must be rich...
P.S. The Atrix does keep copies of sent and received SMS messages. It shows them in threads/conversations like iPhone, or Chikka.
It uses the Text Messaging app which I think is part of the Android OS. Motorola also throws in their own messaging widget if you want you want to use that.
My dinner break is over and I need to quit this thread for now...

Hey guys, I'm a noob, please don't hurt me
I'm an American living in Japan and I just bought my first smart phone...the EVO 3D (3G) for AU by KDDI...I'd post a link, but I'm not yet allowed.
Their non-3G network was CDMA...so I assume that their 3G is also CDMA....can anyone confirm that?
Under that assumption (CDMA), we're still waiting for ICS, so I'm wondering what you'd all recommend I upgrade my phone to while I wait. I'm not a fan of the stock Android 2.3 that came on the phone, and I'd really like ICS....but if there is something I could use now, that might be fine with me.
Also, what are the basic steps I need to follow, I found the sticky thread in the dev forum, but I'm not sure what stickies would apply to my situation. I'm guessing I'd have to start with a root kit, and go from there....but please fill in the gaps, thanks

Just being playful after watching the required "noob" registration video
Lol I see.
Chances are that you will not be able to activate any CMDA phone from overseas on a network here in the USA. The big networks like verizon and sprint will not allow foreign IMEI numbers to be submitted to their system for activation.
Do you happen to know what frequency the cdma network you came from runs on? Look behind the battery

When I had AU by KDDI when I was living in Japan is was CDMA. As far as I am aware the Japanese version wasn't able to be rooted using the CDMA methods here in the development forum. Also the ROMs here would not work on your device and would actually need to be slightly modified to include files from your device to work, but you don't have an ICS ROM to use for replacing files.

That's kind of the conclusion I came to, after running through all the different root/unlock methods, I came across issues in every single one, and my skill / confidence isn't high enough to really make a go at figuring it out.
Only thing I haven't really attempted is downgrading from hboot 1.5 to 1.4, partially because my software version is different from the instructions, and soft bricking the phone makes me nervous considering the potential incompatibilities.
I think our phone is more or less the same as the sprint phone, just on the Japanese frequency. I'm hoping that the sprint announcement means we will also be getting ICS soon... but who knows
Hi everyone, Im considering buying a HTC Rezound off ebay, the thing is that I dont live in USA (I live in the DR) and I've read
a lot about the "GSM mode" on the rezound but I've still have a few question(Forget me if they've been already answered, as i've searched everywhere for clear answers, including the original gsm thread):
1- Do I need to get some sort of unlock code from verizon to use a sim card with it (an Orange sim card from The Dominican Republic)
2- Does the Rezound supports 3G on the 900mhz band?
thats for now, thanks in advance.
PS: Sorry again if this been answered before, believe me I searched, (Im a "former" HD2 owner, so searching an reading tons of tech stuff is not
something new to me )
I contacted a local seller who claims that the rezound supports 3g on 900mhz band, he told me we could meet so he can show me in person
that it is actually getting 3g.

1) ok first of all the rez should work without an unlock code right out the box with ANY GSM sim card... if it's a stock rom you just won't have data(browse online) and if you try sending a text you lose service..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421341
that was when it first came out.. now you can just flash a custom rom and get full working data without worries... if you need help on that as well tell me
2) i live in the commonwealth of Dominica and i'm on GSM with Digicel... they don;t have 3g down here but they are on the 900 mhz band but the have 3g and even 4g in other countries so yes you should get 3g on the 900mhz band..
thanks a lot jahrize! I bought the phone, now all I have to do is wait for to arrive, I'll update this thread once I get it going.
thanks again.

Im not sure I understand, are you thinking of going TO Verizon? as What I meant is that I WILL NOT use this phone with verizon.
anyways if what you mean is that you're switching to Verizon but you're also planning to use this overseas as a gsm device from time to time then we're (almost) on the same boat, anyways the phone hasn't arrived yet, (think I'll be getting it by the end of the week). Glad to hear you like it here, as for the reason I'm here, well I actually live here, Im Dominican. I bought the Rezound because the hardware is excellent and since CDMA phones are a bit cheaper than their GSM counterparts (at least on ebay) I went for it. Back to the phone, yesterday I spent a few (too many) hours trying to unlock it with HTCDEV.Com but I did not succeeded as the page was constantly logging me out, but today I tried it again at work (yeah I know ) and I finally got the unlock code, but I havent tried to unlock it yet as I read somewhere that it is best to first update to (offficial?) ICS to get the latest firmware and radio and then unlock it as if one tries to update after unlocking it will not update. By the way do you know how could I flashed the official update as I haven't been successful trying to get it OTA and im a bit confused with all the leaked ICS ruu floating around.
Thanks.
As promised here's the update: it works!!! It gets to connect to hdspa on the 900mhz band.
Of course setting it from stock was a bit of a chore. But it is done. I'm updating this from my HTC rezound running ics sense 4.0 3g on orange dominicana
Hello,
I'm about to buy the Galaxy S3 I needed to know a few things before I do so... I know there is a international version (Which is what I really want) and the US version. I know the differences between the two besides if the International version radio is compatible with T-mobiles 3g / 4g network. If the international version is not compatible with there 3g / 4g network I'm not sure any other carriers will be... I hope I'm not stuck getting the US version due to compatibility issues. If you have any recommendations on a carrier or if I'm just stuck looking at the US version ...
I live in Ohio and want to go with a non contract like T-mobile 4G to go plans and will be buying the phone outright.
Thanks for your time!
Could a MOD move this to the proper section PLEASE!
Thanks!
Well, a quick search shows that the i9300 supports these frequencies:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100

So you need to go to the T-Mobile website and check what frequencies they use and see if the i9300 supports them.
PS. Questions go in the Q&A forum
I'm 100% certain that if you are unable to distinguish between General and Q&A threads, you are unable to recognise and understand the diffs between two SGSIII versions.

Umm I came here from a Google search. I have been a android developer since the G1 , Nexus One and I would never own any I device period. TBH I mistook the general section for the General Question and Answers type of forum...
I have been on XDA for years ...
Now post counts aside I would rather move this to the proper section then have someone forum or grammar Nazi me the person that answered before you was answer enough to know that this was in the wrong section.. I work 10 -12 hour days all week and need to make a informed decision beforehand when I have the time. And I know T-mobile uses the 1900 band but ever since that almost merger with att its hard to know if there current HSPA + network is still using the same frequencies Wikipedia aside I would rather ask a informed owner.
Suggesting a Iphone is something I would sugest to no one!
I guess a +1 to your post count +0 to my question and knowing that this was posted in the wrong section again priceless!
You can probably call TMo and find out for sure
Step aside from frequencies.
What I'd look after first (especially reading a bits about the I9300's SDS cases) is the warranty problem.
Several times here and in General section, some users have mentioned that Samsung US refuses to repair under the warranty this model bcs it is not officially sold in USA (presumably: they do not have I9300 parts in stock).
Furthermore, as I read the case, it was mentioned that EU's Samsung refuses the repair as well, if phone would be sent from US (yes, I know how it sounds like, I was amazed too that you can buy it from Amazon, but ...). therefore, the problem was: sending faulty phone somewhere to EU, sending it from EU to Samsung, and same way for the return.

Amaze is compatible with frequencies:
GSM:
850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
UMTS:
850, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz
Data:
HSDPA+ (4G) 42.2 Mbit/s, UMTS, EDGE
Have you had ANY phone work on the idea network properly? Same with the airtel?
For starters, switch from WCDMA only to Auto or GSM/WCDMA.

How about ask your local service person for the correct settings, or hopefully someone on this board who lives in your area can post theirs.
Is there an OTA specific to your phone?
While not the case with you currently, it may be important if you travel--there are some areas where certain carriers don't have that coverage:

Aircel uses 900 and in some places possibly 1800. Do you have a data plan? Have you spoken with a support person with any one of your carriers--they're used to things like this and getting in the proper settings. I would strongly recommend that.
Check the Settings->About Phone to find out which version of android you have, and if you are running a custom ROM or not.
Do all of that first--make sure you have a data plan, speak with a support person, find out a little about your phone.
If you are stock check with your support person if there is an upgrade for you, also.
If you are NOT stock, you might want to go back to the Stock GB or ICS (remember to update the radio also) so your phone will be basic and stable, to be sure it will work at all with data. Once you've determined if it will work with data, then you can try one of the custom ROMs if you like, but NOT JellyBean or KitKat, as they are all problematic.

I think it should still work. The tech should be able to give you settings regardless of the device origin--you're still paying for a plan, and some support should come with that.
Nevertheless, check this to make sure you have the right settings.
You "may" also have to call T-mobile and ask for unlock code for your phone--they will ask you for the IMEI.
I don't know if necessary, but have read something to that effect--that in using the Amaze 4G in another country, you need to have the phone unlocked. I'm sure someone else on the boards here will let us know.
The back cover houses the antenna, and yes, it could be the antenna, but unless you have another back cover to test it with, it will be best for you to check the settings first, and then see if it needs to be unlocked.
Then come back here with what you've learned--it'll help me learn too.
The ad said that the phone is unlocked... I purchased it from Ebay and I have a prepaid connection with the provider.. it is "pay as you go plan" so I guess they wont provide much help as I have seen customer care people putting their hands up many times saying it is a problem with the device and they cannot help...that's y I was trying to get some help here on the forum as someone else could also have faced the same issue and can help me with their experience...

Thanks for explaining. I apologize I neglected to put the settings link yesterday--you'll want to check your settings:
http://compixels.com/8630/manual-3g-settings-for-airtel-vodafone-idea-bsnl-docomo-more
Thanks again for your reply...I already have those same APN settings saved for my provided...but my problem is that my device is not receiving any 3g signals to be exact...I can connect to the data connection also but with 2g speeds...

Besides the firmware update, there has been a separate radio update.
I think these are the most recent updates:
Software number is 2.14.531.30 710RD
Baseband version is 1.15.550L.08DC_30.80.550L16D
It's possible that your phone will work with them.
Does anyone else agree?
how do I try them.. I mean what do I need to do..

You may be able to just put the official OTA on your exernal SD card and flash through recovery--not quite sure yet.
I gotta see some of the settings info, so for starters go into your settings->about phone, screenshot the page that appears and also scroll down to any new pages, and post screenshots here.
How to screenshot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885386
After that, reboot the phone into recovery following these instructions, and screenshot the recovery screen and post it here also:
Power the phone off and wait about 10 seconds after the screen goes black to be sure it's off->hold Volume Down button, while doing so press the Power button, and release both buttons.
The phone will boot to bootloader, should say hboot up top, and have a little list below it.
If you can't screenshot it via the previous method, note if at the top of the page is says Locked or Unlocked, and if it says "S-Off" or "S-On", and note the version of hboot so you can post the info here.
Use the power down button to highlight the list item "Recovery", and then press and release the Power button to enter the recovery. After recovery loads, note if it returns to a screen just like the hboot screen, or if says in it "TWRP", "CWM", or "4EXT" or any such other thing, and screenshot that or get the info and post that here also.
Now that you've learned what sort of state the phone's in, you can reboot from whichever screen you're on, and have your phone back to normal.
Once you're back with your phone booted, you'll find a screenshots folder in gallery most likely, else you'll have to search the phone with a file manager app or google to find it, but check the gallery first.
After that we'll look for the proper update and update method for you.
Hopefully by then someone else will come along and say something like "All he needs to do is download this "Official OTA" [link included] and put it on the SD card and flash it via hboot"--hopefully, 'cause I may be making this more complicated than it needs to be.
Here, let me repeat that, "Hopefully by then someone else will come along and say something like "All he needs to do is download this "Official OTA" [link included] and put it on the SD card and flash it via hboot"--hopefully, 'cause I may be making this more complicated than it needs to be."
In bootloader, it is showing as:
Unlocked
RUBY PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.93.0003
OpenADSP-v02.6.0.226.00.0202
IN RECOVERY: Team Win Recovery Project v2.3.3.0
I have also added screenshots as attachments for the about phone setting menus.

You did a good job with that--thanks. Hey, you're in good shape--everything is new enough.
You need to Super CID your phone, and then flash a rom for one of your local (in India) carriers.
Super CID instructions:
http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm
ROM for carriers:
Sorry I can't provide the link--I'm having a helluva tough time searching.
Maybe by the time you've Super Cid'ed your phone, someone else will tell us where to find a proper ICS RUU for India.
Thank you
Thank you for taking out time for helping me...can any other rom (other than the T-mobile) working... and I dont know what is RUU..lol.. I am pretty new to these terms.

In order to use the phone in your country you need to have one of your carrier's firmware on the phone so it is compatible.
You can't put their firmware on your phone until after you've performed "Super CID". After performing that, other carrier's firmware can be flashed to the phone.
RUU restores the phone to factory condition. Let's not concern ourselves with that just yet--follow the instructions to Super CID.
