IPhone vs Lumia no controversy!! - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi folks!
I'm from NZ(I'm Korean though) and I just got a Lumia 800 yesterday.
I love the windows phone 7 UI.
But I've used iOS devices(iPhone, iPad) for over a year and I'm already used to it.
I have to make a decision which one to keep before selling either of the iPhone 4s and the lumia 800.
my question is
What's the main advantage of using the lumia compared to the iPhone?
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

WP7 is just a more optimal UI.
Lumia has bigger screen.
Lumia wont smash into pieces when you drop it without a case on.
Integrated services like live chat, linkedin, twitter and facebook/chat.
Live tiles showing information so no need to open 20 apps to know if you have info waiting and need to check it
Can pin web sites, people, anything(for example music playlist, recipe or cocktail) from any app which supports it into live tile window.
Much faster access to phone main functions. Less touches.
iPhone, accessories and apps advantage. However for me, I have all the apps and accessories I need on WP7/Lumia. Everyone varies.

Lumia 800 if you want a great phone, good messaging, all round experience.
iPhone 4s if you use your phone as a gaming device. Gaming is a big plus on iOS.
WP has good games but for very casual gamers. Very casual. For now. In a year the whole spectrum of apps could change. Microsoft can do anything.

I completely agree with the reasons already listed. I'd like to add that the Lumia 800 is damned sexy. The iPhone 4s is pretty hot, too, but it's a shatter magnet... and who doesn't have one already? The things are everywhere. I like holding my Lumia 800, knowing that if I drop it that it won't shatter. BTW, I have dropped it and it didn't shatter. The curved glass and feel in my hand is incomparable.
I also LOVE that the Lumia doesn't need a protective case that compromises the aesthetic design. Most iPhone cases totally hide what a beautiful piece of hardware it is. The included case for the Lumia looks exactly like the phone. That's a big plus for me.

Okay thanks for you guys I'm very happy with this phone but my concern is the battery life and using my headphone.
I just checked last night how much the battery drains for 10 hours without doing anything. And when I checked it this morning the battery was 92%. The iPhone 4s left 98%.. Almost 1% per hour on the lumia.. How can you improve the battery life? Please let me know some tips=)
And I'm using a dr.dre beats tour control talk headphone but no buttons are working with the lumia.... It's so frustrating to me.. I just bought the headphone not long ago so I do need to use it right now.. Any way to work it with my lumia??

In regards to battery life, what's the firmware revision number? If it ends in 12070 you will have the latest so the usual suggestions to save battery life, i.e turning off wifi, bluetooth, dimming brightness, turning off 3g when not needed etc. apply.
If your firmware revison number does not end in that, there will be an update soon from Nokia to increase the battery life by up to double or triple.

My firmware revision number is 12070 but it still sucks. I don't think I'm a heavy user but it lasts only about 10-12 hours (still testing though) .
Compared to iPhone 4s it's just terrible.. I think the problem is even when I'm listening to music it drains a lot.. I only listen for 15 mins from uni to my home the battery became 50 -> 47.
Is it normal?
It's just like other android phones. Especially, when I'm playing the internet it drains dramatically fast...
Maybe iPhone still has the best battery life I guess.

Mine can only last around half of that for slightly heavier usage.

Wow then not really different from me
Do you bring your charger everytime??

Even emwith the 11500 update i can get true the day without a problem.

Agreed. I get a full day out of my phone and I usually play games before I go to bed. I remember trying to fully drain the battery and having to play games for 1-2 hours to make it happen. Went to bed super late on those nights.

Nope. We have iPhones and Lumias in our office and the Lumias get better battery life with similar use.
If you get 10-12 hours on the latest 12070 firmware then maybe your phone is faulty? I use my phone for around 2 hours per day and have 3 mail account, facebook, sms and some live tiles for stock etc. I get 24-32 hours.
iPhone4 gets around 20-24 hours, 4S around 16-20.

I think your iPhone id faulty.. If same usage on both phones, the iPhone should last longer..

First Impressions on your new Nokia 800

Lets start a thread purely about your first thoughts on the Nokia 800 and woudl you recommend us to upgrade to one of these phones..
My first impression was wow that screen looks amazing with windows pone. The black really is true black and the ever so slight curve at the edges means it so nice to swipe. My only gripe is the 16gb though i use my zune for music so not that bad and that the screen could of streched a tad more to the edges of the phone. Saying that though i dont mind 3.7 i think its actually a nice size. The other think i notice is that yes it may be a "plastic" phone it feels so solid in the hand. My desire or hd7 have not felt so well put together.
Oh i forgot another design flaw is that all the buttons are down one side making it really hard to find a car dock that does not press the power.
loving my lumia 800, very pleased with it. just upgrded from an n900 which was amazing. its very different to the n900 and there are a few improvements needed but still loving the lumia.
agreed with the lacking in memory or card slot.
not being able to use the phone as a mass storage device is a huge massive fail and going to cause me problems at work.
Very Impressed
I've had this for 3 days now, and it's just a dream to use.
I previously had an HTC Desire (rooted and running the latest CM Mod on 2.3.7), which I found was pretty decent, but the lack of internal storage was driving me crazy, (system, internal storage only, apps were updating and getting bigger forcing me to uninstall apps that I actually wanted!).
Even though the screens of these 2 phones seem the same on paper (3.7" AMOLED, 800x480 resolution), the Nokia's just looks leaps and bounds better, there's no pinkish tinge on low brightness settings and the colours just pop. Also, whatever Nokia have done to make it work better in outdoor lighting has worked too. On my Desire, I could not see anything on the screen outside on a bright day, even with screen brightness at full. The Nokia is still clear outside, even at medium brightness.)
The only gripes I have are OS related, and are not that significant. I was surprised to see that I was unable to change the browser home page for example, but the most annoying thing is not being able to scrub through audio tracks. Having to hold down the next track button, especially on long tracks is pretty poor. It seems to work on some locally stored videos, but not on the YouTube site for example, also, I'm surprised that there is no dedicated YouTube app, (glorified bookmark != app)!
I'm very happy with it in general, and the guys at the office are suitably impressed too.

Is this your first foray into WP7? This limitation is by no means a fail on the part of Nokia. WP7 does not allow for hot swapping of memory cards and also does not allow for USB Mass Storage function due to the way that it treats external memory as internal memory.

I still dont get what is wrong with a memory stick on your keys. Its easier and more practical and as an IT tech i would deffo say i would rather give the emplies them then use mobile phones. I agree it would be better to have more files supported by zune but to get into the file system is no benefit then to break it.
I am new user in WP7
I think Lumia 800 is great. I love its shape and the screen.
But seems the battery life is not really long (even compare to my existing Android Nexus one)
I love it too and will be my next phone as soon as I can buy one unlocked and unbranded. So far no one seems to be selling them this way.

I have some questions i hope you guys can answer me.
Do the Lumia have a blue tint when you tilt the phone on the screen like the N9 have. That was really not nice looking on The N9 and annoyed my eye (very visual and need things to be clear and sharp and continious colour wise)?
Also do the txt and white/light backgrounds/icons have that magenta edge on the left side like the N9?
If yes is it as bad as on the N9?
Regards Dousan...

A day is good considering Android phones tend to be half a day and iPhone 4s is also around 14 hours for many users.

In my experience no and no. The screen looks pretty much perfect from all angles and I've noticed no issues with magenta tinting. I thought I did at first but it was confirmed as being nothing by a few other people
Agreed, the phone screen is bang on, had a Omnia 7 before my lumia 800 and the screen is just as good, also the screen doesn't appear to attract anywhere near the amount of fingerprints as the Omnia 7 outdoor work is easy too, screen works very well.

Guys, more impressions please! Very interested in this device
And please, check the phone vibration level. Is it ok to use it on vibro mode in pocket?
Love this phone. Moving on from android and the windows 7 UI just looks so much fresher. I love the WP7 people hub integration with social networks.
But on to the phone. The Nokia design is really nice and even with the phone case that was provided free with it, it has very good styling. The screen is so black that you can't tell where it ends and the case begins because the glass stretches all the way across the front.
Camera seems to be good. However, I did take some pics yesterday and found that if you tap the screen to focus and take a shot it sets the shot to macro which was annoying. That's probably a WP7 "feature"
I don't really like the power button on the side to be honest but can see why it has been put there. When it's in my car dock, I can't activate the phone because of the way it is held in the cradle. Will have to rethink that.
Call quality is what you would expect from Nokia. I don't know if the signal quality is any better than anything else. I have tried the speaker phone and it is good as well. Nice and clear.
Not sure I can comment on any more Nokia specific features as I've only had the phone for 5 days. Do give the battery a chance to condition as it is getting better each day for me. Remember to do a full charge.

[Q] Verdict on our Nokia Lumia 800

Ok, so we've had our first impressions and now we've had our devices for weeks, maybe months, let's give our opinions about the device.
Display
I must admit, I was shocked by the display, I've had many phones and nothing could beat the iPhone 4's retina display, I must admit that I didn't think this tin could come to par with either that or the Super AMOLED display, but damn, it's yummy good.
Handset (Body & Screen)
The body, the material of the phone is sexy, that's the best way to describe it, in my hand though, I must admit, that damn edge hurts your palm after time, so you have to keep the edge out of it after a few mins, damn things a bugger, wish a nice third party case would come and comfort this. As for the screen, as soon as I bought it, I was looking for a screen protector, bought one that doesn't cover it up, so much for the hellish plastic, as by then I managed to get two very tiny scratches on the screen which you can just about see in light, OCD Rage!! so much for Gorilla Glass, I guess it's no good on the fine scratches. Thanks to an XDA member now I've ordered a full screen protector.
Operating System
Ok, since I've used all three leading OS right now, I can be unbiased and fan-boy-less. Android, oh god, I was the dude who couldn't stop rooting, theming, tweaking, I must admit, Android is good, but not great, why? Ok, as much as some may hate the fact of being boxed in by Zune and iTunes, it keeps your music library organised, I prefer iTunes over Zune, as Zune is limited and slow when it comes to syncing a movie. The widgets on Android just makes your screen look like your fridge with a load of untidy sticky notes, iOS lacks it, whereas the Windows is limited which I like, though I do wish the live tiles could be as big as the pictures tile as an option. When it comes to syncing contacts, I disliked the iOS, was way too limited, it's like the contacts were completely seperate, making the phone feel like, it was on the side, it felt like the iOS was an iPod touch with the phone on side, Android was ok thanks to HTC, but without that, it was pretty close to the iOS, lacking. The Windows though, damn, I love this piece of ish, this is the best part of it, it being a great "PHONE" doing it's job their perfectly. Out of all three OS's I have to admit, Windows has been the best so far, as it is a phone, don't get me wrong, the tweaks, customising, rooting yada I love, but it all comes down to it being a phone. iOS comes second and Android third. Why Android? I think we all know now, google was an innovator, but is now an imitator, copy and pasting, nothing eye-catching that I've seen anymore.
Music Player
Oh dear, where do I start? This thing is bloody awful, my mini-disc player sounded way better than this, maybe even my old tape player too, it's dreadful, the guy who was in charge of this must have shot himself or Nokia must have murdered him from the complaints on here and the Nokia forum, but yes, apparently the next update will fix this, I don't know how, as I believed it was hardware related and not software, we shall wait and see. I had to buy a Fiio amplifier because of it, it's doing it's job well, but I wish that I didn't need it, as it adds extra wires and of course an extra gadget I could do without. Damn! It'd be payday for the man who robs me. Loudspeaker, oh god, reminds me off the first phones that had real ringtones, that awful hiss. It makes a great alarm though by being annoying. The iPhone 4 was absolutely brilliant in this department, no problem whatsoever, Android was too, apart from it being an untidy music player.
Battery
Another downer, this phones battery is ridiculous, I'm sorry, as many have stated that their battery life is now better, you're just sacrificing the tools and background apps, dimming your screen i.e. finding ways to save battery, I had an iPhone 4, damn things wi-fi, 3g, GPS was always switched on, Androids, the mother of battery drainers, installing custom ROM's that had battery draining bugs and that don't come close to this. Nokia was always great when it came to battery life, but this is outrageous, one big reason why I'm having second thoughts on this phone.
Verdict
Big red for the verdict, as some may have got tired reading, but what can I say about this phone, it's amazing, not the best, the best when it comes to OS, I'm having second thoughts about this phone, Nokia is plain ignoring everyone, look at their forum, that will give you an example, they were good when it came to customer service, not anymore, I wanted the Lumia 900 later this year to join this phone, but now I'm thinking, if the iPhone 5 is out by then, I may go for that instead, with this phone being kept on the side. The phone has faults, yes, the iPhone had the horrible antenna gate, but, I'm p***** off with Nokia's response to the battery, at one time, they needed the diagnostics app to determine your battery status, now they're telling everyone to not pay attention to it and delete it. The best part of the phone comes down to the fruit Mango, that's the heart of this phone. So I'll give this phone a 7.5/10
Thanks for reading, hope I didn't b**** too much, and please people, if you disagree, keep it clean and friendly, it was my "opinion", you have yours too.
Thanks for the review, I'll give it a go anyway, I got it coming Tuesday, I've currently got a 4S which I love, but something attracts me to this phone, the battery can't be as bad as the 4s, I have to charge it twice a day, it's a joke.

Kind of off topic but have you disabled some of the location services on the 4S? It constantly searchs for location for the weather update, you can disable this specifically (without disabling location for maps) and double the battery life. My better half's 3GS had a big drop in battery life too due to this.

I hope you don't get a lumia with terrible battery . The chinese are probably mad that Apple are selling all the iPhones overseas and are sabotaging the batteries!
I'm stuck between getting a Lumia or a 4S at the moment. Had a bit of crap customer service from apple which has turned me off (i even cancelled my pre-order), but all the problems with the Lumia are turning me off. If they fix the audio (and put 32GB) then i might get one... or hold off for the 900.
I can't wait to hear how you get on with the Lumia though, mainly because WP7 is really fantastic.

lol yeah more than likely
I've brought it off someone which is second hand and he's had it since Novemeber, so probably one of the earlier models, we're see with battery I suppose... £200 for it though and mint condition so can't complain, and I really like the look of those live tiles lol
The 4s is an amazing phone don't get me wrong, it really has some amazing features, the camera is second to none, the apps functionality and how iOS has come around to be great really makes it a great phone, I will miss some of the apps if I sell it, Instagram (amazing photo app like twitter follow people etc but you post pictures) iPlayer, Sky Go, TVCatchup, amongst many other great apps.
But in the end I don't think it'll bother me, I like minimal, email, messaging and calls, the WP7 interface looks smart for doing those things and it's not like Apple are ever going to stop producing iPhones, the 5 will be around the corner lol

Switched from iPhone Thread!!

Switched from iPhone 4 to a white note, been using an iphone since 2007, thats 5 years in a row!! after one hour with the note i have no regrets!
who else switched?
the only thing i miss is one app, scramble with friends
I play Words with Friends on Android with people on iPhones.

Apple makes great MBPs and wireless routers. That's about it. The iphone was good in 2007.
I can't think of a single reason to own one now instead of any Android

Scramble with friends will make its way to Android eventually. Probably soon.
I switched from 3gs . . . lol.
I actually just popped on the forums to comment on the fact that I am, for one, IMPRESSED by the battery. For how huge this phone is and everything. . . it's utterly amazing. I've been on red for the better part of an hour. Just paid two Kaiser bills (they take seemingly forever to pay) over the phone with speaker phone on and the screen on the whole time. Barely dropped a couple of percent.
I don't have an allegiance to either system but I am torn atm
I really like the idea of the Note:
- GIGANTIC screen
- replaceable 2500 mAh battery
- g-maps navigation
- power control widget
The only problem?
I can't really find anything wrong with my iPhone 4S either...
- Great battery life on the 4S
- I don't mind a 3.5' screen (hell I've even used a 2.7' HP Veer before and have been ok) but I wouldn't mind a 5.3' screen either
- Great camera on both
- Great screen quality on both (love both AMOLED and IPS)
- Both sides have all the core applications I need
- Garmin GPS app gives turn by turn directions
- Siri and Google dictation services are basically a wash
- I don't feel "locked down" by Apples system like most here do. I figure out how to conform either system (iOS or Android) to fits my needs
Decisions decisions...
Just switched from an iPhone 4 to a white Galaxy Note with a blue flip cover. I love it so far. I've rooted it, removed all the AT&T/Samsung Bloatware, Installed Go Launcher and have a bunch of emulators. I regret nothing!
I just switched to the note from an Iphone3gs today. So far the experience has been amazing, wish I switched over earlier!
Another iPhone 3GS convert here... just picked up my carbon Note tonight, and I think I'm in love.
I've been running CM7 on my Nook Color for the last year, so I've had plenty of time to test out the Android ecosystem. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic to finally be 100% free from the confines of iOS, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can do with the Note.
/w00t and stuff
Switched from iphone 4 myself, got the white note yesterday. Its a handful lol, been doing a lot of research on this site since I am a noob.
I'm a big apple and linux user, and my previous phone was an iPhone 3GS. I'm really enjoying the Note so far, and android in a nice new experience for me. I think my favorite thing is how if you feel that something isn't working the way you think it should, there's an app for that.
A lot of the things I've been doing so far have been toward making it do things that the iPhone got right that you never really had to think about, but now that that's all sorted everything is brilliant.
Excelsior!
I've been on an iPhone since the original...this phone was the first one different enough and against everything that apple believes that i know i won't be disappointed when the iPhone 5 comes out....I love it!
Welcome to all of you. You shall not be disappointed with Android. Once some custom ROMs start coming out, our phone will be a beast for a long time...not that it isn't already. Glad you all finally came over from the dark side! Haha.
Switched from a 4s to the Note yesterday. I'm pretty sure it has already ruined me for smaller screen phones. I turned my iPhone on today connected to wifi to play Scramble and it already felt like the smallest phone in the world. My Note is running great and I don't see me going back.
Picked up the Note today at Best Buy at full retail. I currently have the iPhone 4S 64 and here are my thoughts.
The Note is huge but I knew that and it doesn't bother me to much because it fits nicely in my pocket. I have none of the lag issues with the UI some state. The OLED screen is very nice. Blacks are black colors are punchy. The reddish/pinks can be a bit blown out as with any OLED screen I have seen. I can't even tell its a pentile display due to the hi res. The phone is a bit slippery so I will need a case to help with that but then the phone will be even bigger . As with all Androids I have tested, battery charging is slow as hell. Im guessing about 3 hours for a full charge on the Note vs. 1 on the iPhone. I love how I can wake up in the morning forgetting to charge my Iphone. I realize its at 20 percent and by the time I am out of the shower and ready to go its at 60%. The Note took 45 mins to go from 35 to 50% roughly. Also due to the size I can easily do everything with my 4S in one hand. I can with the Note but its a bit awkward and I am afraid I might drop it. I have decent size hands and can grip a basketball in one hand.
With that said, the Note is my favorite Android on the market. If you are an Android fan and don't mind the size then give it a try. I always go back to iOS. Right now since I am swapping my iPhone sim back and 4th all I get is HSPA+4G and not LTE 4G (San Francisco). Supposedly I will need to call ATT to change to an LTE plan but then I am not sure if it will work properly in the 4S. I would not mind keeping both and just switching based on my needs/mood but many of my friends use iMessage so that makes it a bit challenging.
Switched from an iPhone 4. I have no regrets and will never go back!

A couple thoughts,
A. This is an apples and oranges comparison because the battery in the Note has a significantly greater capacity, it will obviously take longer to charge.
B. I came to the Note from the Infuse which also had long recharge times because Samsung's charging scripts are conservative. There are ROMs like ZEUS that incorporate different charging scripts and will fully charge that phone in an hour and a half or so.
C. Once a CWM recovery is out for this phone, development will pick up and different governors will come into play which, when incorporated with an ext4 file system, will make the phone faster and less of a battery hog.
Give it time, you will fing your iphone becoming less and less used until you wonder why you haven't sold it. At least that's what happened to me.

I use my iPhone more and more as time goes on (and this is coming from someone who is getting the Note soon). My smartphone, doesn't matter iOS or Android, gets tweaked until it takes care of every single electronic need of mine.
I switched from the iPhone 3GS and love most things about the Note so far, especially the size and flexibility. However, I don't like the voicemail function. I much prefer the simplicity of the iphone visual voicemail that is just there and you tap to listen, rather than having to call a phone number to access and then hit a variety of number to retrieve, save, or delete. Maybe there's a visual voicemail app out there??

Since you are equally happy with both os offering, then might i suggest you look at it from a different angle. What hdtv would you buy? A 32 inch HDTV (iphone) or 55 inch HDTV (note)?

Any other Nexus 4 owners also have/had Lumia?

I currently have both. I sold my GS3 when I picked up the Lumia 920 fully knowing I was going to order a Nexus 4. My plan was to compare the 2 and decide which one I wanted to keep. I am in a bit of a struggle there. Would love input from others that Have/had both.
My opinions:
Lumia 920
Pros:
Screen - Much more vivid and bright, but not overly saturated like that of GS3 etc... Also SEEMS bigger due to on screen buttons of Nexus 4
Battery life - I wasn't even coming close to using up the battery in a day with the Lumia. WIth the Nexus I can make it through a day, but definitely not as good.
Feel - The Lumia feels very solid in your hands. The weight actually adds a good amount of feel to the phone as well, doesn't feel like a toy.
Camera - The camera on the Lumia is amazing (for a cell phone camera). Pictures are great quality and are taken with ease and fast.
OS - Windows Phone 8 is super smooth and does everything I need in a smartphone. It's newer to me, and so less boring.
Cons:
Apps - Very limited app selection. I knew this going in to WP8 and I honestly can't say it is missing anything I NEED, I guess this is more of a boredom filler thing.
No Dev - Again knew this coming in, and again a boredom filler more than anything
Nexus 4
Pros:
Dev - Not quite yet, but will have loads of custom tweaks/roms/etc to play with
App Selection - Not nearly as much as iOS but certainly more than WP8.
Call quality - I find the Nexus 4 to have AMAZING call quality (when it has a good signal)
OS - 4.2 on this phone is SUPER quick. No lag to speak of (for a change), but I do have to say I find Android kind of stale and old to me.
Cons:
Build Quality: While overall quality is great, phone feels solid, super light (debatable if that is a plus or not, I don't necessarily care for the toy feel) however the Phone has something that rattles when you shake it. Their is a constant buzz from the earpiece (can't be heard in call). The back is SUPER slippery, will slide off anything.
Signal - Overall signal is lower than the last 4-5 phones i have owned (based on signal at my house). Also when holding the phone in certain ways I can physically WATCH the signal drop down, then move my hand and watch it go back up.
Screen - Screen quality is fantastic, but the colors could use some life. I am not talking super saturated AMOLED style, but these are closer to HTC Dull IMO. The screen is just as usable in the sun test though, so it is bright!
Plenty more of each I will try to add when they come to mind, just wanted to post a few of my thoughts and see if anyone else had factors to add or their opinion (Please only post your opinion if you have had both phones to compare).
This is JUST my opinion. Please do not take my opinion on either phone as FACT or offensively. If you have a different opinion please share it (respectfully) and I am all ears. I am not posting this as a flame or to say either phone is bad or better than the other, in fact that is the decision I am stuck on. Both are AMAZING phones, so again please do not take either as a phone bash.

Sold my Nexus 4 about 3 minutes ago. The +'s to the Lumia in my opinion out weigh the +'s to the Nexus 4. The only real thing the Nexus 4 has over the Lumia is rom'ing/tweaking and I have just grown bored of it. I had the Nexus 4 for 4 days and used the phone maybe a total of 2 hours.
You won't be disappointed by the Lumia, amazing phone.
Im thinking about switching from android to WP8 what would you guys say ?
Can I read some opinions about switching or not ?

I returned my lumia. I was personally disappointed in day time camera quality, very buggy battery life and obnoxious vibrating motor. If you think your bored with android, just give the lumia some time lol, you'll be even more bored once the new phone phase wears off.

battery was awful and the GMail issue made me return it
Had the Nexus 4
great phone
but when the screen was on the battery was even worse than the 820
1% per minute screen on, 2% per minute if watching video.
returned.
OK thank you

I'd get the S3
better battery than both and is is 99% as fast as the N4
I had nexus 4 for a week !! as soon as my 920 came, after 24 hours, sold my nexus 4, I mean android is great and will always have a soft spot for the nexus 4 especially, but the 920 is just, elegant and beautiful!!
i have the optimus g and an L920, i like having both, and the S4 pro is a beast SOC, i do find the lumia to still run smoother than the OG.
i love flashing and tweaking, which is why i'll probably always keep two phones on me (well, that and work) but for 95% of my daily use, wp8 is just more efficient and faster. hopefully msft can sort out their app compatibility issues and their cluster**** of xbox music, that would make wp8 just so much better.
the n4/OG did pleasantly surprise me with their build quality, i like the back cover design. the l920 though is one sexy phone in its own regard.
and as far as the GS3 and N4 are considered, the GS3 doesn't come close to the smoothness of the N4. plus pentile displays just flat out suck. and also, touchwiz is a pile of crap, not as bad as sense, but a pile of crap nonetheless.

I agree with the obnoxious vibrating motor. battery life however has been consistently awesome on my 920. Battery life on the N4 was pretty meh.
I have no doubt I will grow bored of The 920, but that is irrelevant because that will happen no matter what phone I have. I will still buy the next shiny new phone that catches my eye

S3 is a fantastic phone, that is what I had before my N4and 920. It is definitely better than the N4 is many ways, pretty much all expect development/100% functional AOSP imo.
Only reason I still don't have my S3 is the unstable WiFi hotspot.
everything else is gravy on the S3

I'm super surprised how interested people are getting in Windows phone 8. Which is a good thing, I just think for me personally I'll wait for the app development to get a little better. No real YouTube app, can't use ad away which I really enjoy, Pandora, waze and more. Do I need them? No, it's a phone, but imho why compromise when I have all of that now. And the apps I purchase I've found a lot more expensive. I got plants vs zombies on Amazon app store for free, but on Windows phone it's 5 bucks. The biggest bummer for me was the day light time photos. Just like the over hyped 900 camera I felt duped. People are posting very impressive photos on wpcentral but that's after using custom picture settings, uploading to skydive, downloading to pc, and editing on Photoshop or the like. I just want a decent point and shoot, which my HTC one x actually provides sharper day time photos, and consistently.
Sorry for the long post, I'm bored.

I find it very interesting how many Android users are very curious about Windows Phone 8! I can't really say the same about iPhone users. Being a Android user for 2 years, I moved to IOS, big mistake, back to Android I went, so going to Windows phone 8 was a huge jump and risk. But it is just so nice how everything looks so tidy and near, with the ability to resize tiles and use colours.
it's almost like a mid point, you have IOS which is pretty much static, you can only move around the icons and place in folders, then you have Windows Phone 8, where you can change colours and resize the tiles, then you have Android where pretty much anything is "customizable". It just fits my life perfectly, just need to wait for more decent apps now.
gah, my head is spinning as my nexus 4 just shipped. I've always loved nexus devices in a very special way. The device looks amazing and dare i saw it LOOKs better than the lumia even though i don't have it in hand yet. Lack of LTE will be the major question. And being the fact i have a nexus 7, will i be bored of two AOSP devices at once.

has the Nexus 4 for about 2 days, it would have been a great phone expect for some issues that were a no-go for me :
1. no LTE speed
2. the buzzing soud on the speaker - i really can't imagine how quality control missed that
3. still some bugs in the OS (one particular issue is while on a call, i have another call coming and the screen wont turn on so i can accept the other or even see who it is).
currently have the HTX 8X and the Lumia 920 for about 2 weeks. the only advantage i see in the 8X in the perfect size and weight, but all the extras from Nokia put the 920 way on top.
Have 920, 8x and nexus 4. To be honest i am not a great app person. All i need is flixster, a news reader (flipboard) and my music. My car comes with in-built navigation and maps. Yes maps!!! I find myself using the 920 more to the point wee i am selling my 8x. The nexus 4 is just for variety but the wow factor has worn out. I got the phone the first day it was released on play.
I would recommend the 920 over both devices. Just my opinion.

any Note 8 problems to be aware of?

for those who got the phone already (lucky), any issues so far to be aware of and test once our beloved phones arrive?
high price, large phone size, finger reader on the back, battery size - does not count!
I have only had 1 issue with an app. Storm Radar from the weather channel. Randomly crashes.
Nothing big but.. Samsung pay for some..... key word some carriers like sprint had issue starting it up.. You can google if that's resolved

I strongly suggest you don't read the threads in this forum. If you do you would either cancel or laugh depending on your IQ!
Samsung have made tens of millions of mobile phones if not billions. They have a very solid reputation now and IF they make a mistake they own up to it.
ALL and EVERY mobile we buy will have lemons I am certain that following last years little upset, cough cough, Samsung will have done everything in their power to insure the Note 8 is a wonderful device that we will all be proud to own and the envy of all fruity brand owners.
I find in life if we look under the sofa we WILL find dust?
Enjoy your Note 8 it will be fine.

not problems here. All works great on my tmobile model.
No issues here. I LOVE this device! Everything from the box to using the phone for a while now, just wonderful! The quality is leaps and bounds better than its predecessors.
1st problem is getting the phone.
2nd is light leaks from screen

It charges slowly but I just assume it's them being overly cautious same with the smaller battery. The photos in low/no light have a lot of noise but most people won't be using it like that without a flash anyway. Bixby was till I found out how to make her respond to things it hears with smart ass comments, now I enjoy it. It's a good phone overall and most is just nitpicking at things.

what performance are you seeing? Big screen, small battery concerns. here....
After a week it should have settled and built up its stamina.
Agreed. Though for me it charges pretty quickly. Maybe I forgot how fast the 7 was after a year with the iPhone which was glacial.
Also, low light isn't horrible if you even have an offset light source. I've been happily surprised with that.
I definitely have no huge complaints. The battery life could be better but I use my phone a lot.

that was obvious last year with the note 7.1 recall and then exactly the same problem with version 7.2 lol.....they clearly took a huge hit on this. Trust is a strong word to place on a firm that failed ....twice. Personally I don't believe there was a massive problem but the market deemed it as catastrophic...
I wonder how many in total went pop compared to apple or any other device using lithium ion batteries!
My neighbour has/had a robot mower that caught fire in the summer ..... LI batteries are fragile but I still wonder why Samsung plays it so safe with a titchy battery when plenty of other phones (much cheaper too) use larger batteries without problems.
My problem with N8 is I can't get the grin off my face since I got it and look like a retard, not tough businessman I pretend to be.

You are agreeing and disagreeing with me in the same post?
"A firm that failed twice". I bought both those note 7's and it was an upsetting time. I hardly think ?200? mobiles going pop out of the number Samsung has made makes Samsung a risk? After you mention the Note 7 situation you then write the same yourself.
If you view the YouTube clips on battery you will see the Note 8 does better than my present SGS8+.
Have you seen the schematics for the Note 8? You can't get a pin inside because its the S-pen that takes a lot off space. The Note 8 has had one hell of a bashing because of its size as it is. I find that absurd as by nature, from the Note 1, They have been the larger versions of their siblings, the S range.

I didn't say I saw Samsung as a risk but the media and the market response did (and boringly they still start any Note 8 reviews with "following the firestarter note 7..." yawn. Maybe they will give this up in a couple of years time! :silly: I guess to recover buyers confidence that is why the battery size has shrunk. I don't see this as necessary and I'd rather the phone was a fraction a of mm thicker to allow for a sensible sized battery. Plenty cram in a good size so for a firm like Sammy its not really an unworkable challenge.
I'm not bothered about an S8+ comparison - if anything it makes me worry that the smaller battery and bigger screen will result in a diminished battery after a relatively short life or even make 18hrs of use. I could finish off the S8+ within 15hrs. through relatively normal use....
Hence asking the question!
I haven't ordered one (yet) as don't need the Dex thing (especially if it takes up to 60 days to order and received - thats terrible). I'll see how real life reviews pan out over the next week or so and order one then hopefully discounted a smidge (already available from amazon at £844 and Very discounted by £86 for a credit arrangement - easily cancelled after a free period).
Keep bugs and reviews coming ...

If you can post a photo of yours in low/no light, I am really thinking something is off with the camera. I reset the settings just to be sure but the photo clearly has sizable amounts of noise.
I'm thinking it's not a great example because this one does have a lot of noise up close. The thing you completely can't tell is just how dark it was. The light source that shows obvious here was a very weak lamp. Also, no flash. It's obviously some post processing so I expect some noise, the question is could I get a shot in those conditions at all?
So not a great example but not seeable with my iPhone (which has an amazing camera too), so I was impressed. I'll try to get some better ones with comparison later.
