[Q] permroot vs.temp root? - HTC Rezound

I am thinking about getting a Rezound as an upgrade. I currently have a Dx stock and rooted (have tried various other roms but ended up back to stock).
I keep reading in the hasoon "noob root" post about how perm root does not work. What's the difference between temp root and perm root? I often run my phone out of battery and need to switch. Will I lose the root if I do this? My primary reason for rooting is the wifi tethering.
Thanks...

There is no longer a temproot solution. It's either all or nothing since the Verizon Gingerbread OTA in January(or was It early February?).

yeah i think it was in january but it got rid of temp root and perm root is way better anyway in terms of customization

How do I downgrade after failed root?

I've searched the forum and, although I found the question, I have not found an answer. I attempted root using One-Step procedure. The process upgraded my phone software to 1.03.605.10,and to root I believe I need to be at 1.03.605.09 or below. I've searched for methods to downgrade, and all I have been able to find are ways to accomplish this AFTER one has gained root. I'd like to root my 'Bolt, but I seem to be stuck at this point. Appreciate the help....Thanks
This is truly the best way to get back to stock...must have adb/SDK...but it is clearly the best way.
[HOWTO] Return to stock properly and safely.
You already downgraded. That version is older than what the phone came with 1.12.605.6. You have to pay attention to all the digits on the version. You're confusing two different versions, 1.03.605.10 (used to gain S-OFF) and 1.12.605.9 (Latest Release). You can gain Temp Root buy using psneuter.
I'm assuming that you never got far enough to gain S-OFF.
If you just want to the phone back to stock, flash the RUU that is posted for 1.12.605.6.

He used one-click method....He's not comfortable with ADB yet.....I stress yet...
Mark...I want you to watch this tutorial on setting up adb....I used this video the first time I set up SDK onto my laptop...one you get comfortable with moving forward, we'll take it to the next level.

So I don't need to return to stock to root my 'bolt. I can run this from step 1 to step 9. Is that correct? I'm feeling better...I was confused with 1.03.605.10 and 1.12.605.06

[Released] Official 2.2.1 froyo for myTouch 3g Slide

http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-slide/downloads/
I got this today in a sms from t-mobile... I guess they did not give up after all.
Would it be safe to install this without losing root or S-OFF?
You will lose root and S-OFF after flashing the official froyo. You can still re-root your phone, but you will lose S-OFF permanently.
So their is no way to get s-off again when you do the official update?
Well yes u can re root but that's the prob the oknly to do it not is the old hard way make a gold card abd if u don't have a sd or micro sd reader well u can't root so yea don't update unless u want to work for reroot
and yeah, as far as now, nobody has cracked the method to obtain S-OFF. so until then you'll be stuck with S-ON.
the new HBOOT that comes with Fro-Yo cannot be engineered to be S-OFF (for both Legend and Slide). You can root again but you need to make a goldcard (which requires a microsd card reader)
So don't do the official update, you will gain nothing at all. Just flash the new radio (been on the forum for a while now) and flash the rooted version of the official update (or any other ROM since the stock T-Mobile version sucks a lot)
Yes well ty uber but already stated 2 post up lol
This is pretty old news lol

To install the update, do we just plug our phones in (with dev enabled) then run the exe file?
I'm looking to update my friend's phone and they aren't savvy enough to put root access to good use and rather keep things simple and stock.

[Q] Temporary root for Amaze?

I've been around the forums (especially Amaze's forum) for a long time, and I have not read anything about temporarily rooting the Amaze.
This may sound like a stupid question but is this achievable without the use of HTCDev unlock method? Would it be possible to get my Amaze temporarily rooted to freeze some bloatware, and to use some root-only applications? I do not want to unlock my device just yet.
If it is possible, is there any repercussions in doing so? I know with some older devices, you would be able to temp root a phone by using z4root and such. I don't want to try z4root on this device if it doesn't work or has a potential to break something.
There's no temp root available, i want to temp root mine to, i asked in another forum.
It wouldn't matter if you temp rooted, anything done while being temp rooted would be reverted once you rebooted.
And no, you couldn't temp root if you wanted too without unlocking the bootloader afaik. I could be wrong tho...

I remember someone saying somewhere that if you uninstall apps, they'll be restored but if you freeze them, they would stay frozen. This is of course, if you temp root a device.

Any difference or reason to use one ROOT method over another?

I rooted mine with the very first one that came out, but with their being 2 known methods (Evo4GLTERoot & RegawMOD), I'm wondering if one method is preferred over another for any particular reason. I take it both are compatible with LazyPanda's S-OFF utility, but noticed many have issues with different things which makes me wonder if the different root methods have anything to do with that.
I am wondering so that in the even that I ever unroot my phone and need to root it back, which option would be better. Currently though, I'm trying to hold out on any more changes until the new firmware is self-rootable (not having to flash a ROM)
Also, is there any way to remove *** TAMPERED *** off the device if you don't want to S-OFF ?
I rooted using both methods EVO4GLTE ROOT and RegawMOD as I had issues with the token for HTC bootloader unlock.
Once you root it says -TAMPERED- for now it's permanent, I'm sure that someone will find a “fix" if high enough demand. Look at is ur badge for unlocking full access to ur phones potential.

1.13.651.1 to 1.22.651.3 update for stock w/root?

I rooted my phone using the Zedomax method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671577), have ROM Toolbox Pro, busybox, and superuser installed. I also have edited my build.prop for the Apple patent workaround (ro.da1.enable=false, etc).
I have not unlocked my bootloader, have not installed a custom recovery, and have not installed a custom ROM. I have S-ON as a result.
I also did not accept the OTA update (I still have root access, etc). My Google Wallet app shows the "Not Supported" error, and is not usable (though it worked when I first got the phone at preorder launch).
I'm a bit confused in regard to the best way to updated to 1.22.651.3. I don't necessarily need to install custom ROM's, or achieve S-OFF, I just want root access so I can adblock, use wifi tether, freeze bloatware, edit build.prop, etc.
I believe these are my options. Can you let me know if they are correct, and which is most likely the best course of action?
A) Un-root, install OTA, use RegawMOD to root again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690919
B) Flash a ROM update or Firmware update using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766628
C) Flash a custom ROM such as this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701117
D) Wait for a basic "one click" method to be released?
Thanks
Pretty much in the same boat here. I really don't want to lose my settings; I'd rather just stay rooted and install the OTA.
