[Q] Best way without touch keys - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy S II that has broken touch keys (menu back home search). I am running a Gingerbread ROM. What are the best ways to use a phone without touch keys?? If you're interested the whole situation as to what happened is explained in this post.
My current solution is Button Savior. It works but it's not quite the best options. Do you guys have any other ideas?

XDA IIi Questions

Can anyone assist with a couple of questions I have:
1. Since installing all the various bits of software on my IIi the screen rotation icon has disappeared from the bottom right of the today screen. Is there a way to get it back?
2. Because of the above, I re programme the camera, button 3 to rotate the screen, however it seems to default back to Camera after a soft reset. Is this a know problem?
Cheers

We have been discussing this over on TekGuru. It is a problem others are experiencing as well and so far no one has figured out a way to get it back or what causes it to disapear. Presumably you still have the screen rotation icon on your O2 Active Screen.
If you use or decide to use SPB Pocket Plus, you can use it to put screen rotation icons on your Today Screen.
The other thing to do is to assign it to a hardware button as yu have done. I assigned it to the calendar button when holding it down (I am using Vito's ButtonMapper which allows each hardware button to do two different functions).
It does not default back to the original setting after a soft reset but it may be that the camera button works in a different way.
Thanks for the update, my only thought on this is that it seemed to disappear after I added the additional software from the o2 CDROM.
Hopefully this will be fixed in the next ROM update, which hopefully will include Blackberry support

[Q] Galaxy S2 LCD problem software or hardware?

I have purchased second hand galaxy S2 I9100.
I am experience LCD problem from the start. First w botton on horizontal arrangment not working.
I tried *#0*# test code for LCD and found one column from top to bottom not working.
Now LCD is behaving strange after i remove the screen protector. It goes to automatic selection in the middle of screen after some time of use e.g it automatically got selecting every thing which is on middle left of screen
I talked to some of my friends and they think it is a software issue.
I have tried flashing it with different ROMs using ODIN but no improvement results
It also go to downloading mode by only selecting volume down during power on.
Please help as I am not getting anything for solution
If that's happening with every rom you've tried (I presume you've gone back to stock firmware to test as well ?), then that's a hardware problem.
Home key Download mode
Yes I have also tried stock firmware of my model.
I have one more question. My Samsung galaxy S2 goes to download mode by pressing power and volume down button only e.g without pressing home key button. My home key button function properly at the android home.
I that also some issue with the hardware?
Try flashing the XWKL1 fw.. It pretty much fixed mine

If its still under warranty get the screen replaced. I did.
I.lost a whole collumn and wasn't too stressed about it but before long another collumn went. I expect more would have followed so better to get it replaced at their cost not ours.

[Q] Touch button doesn't work sometimes

Hiya all,
Got my HTC one few weeks back and think its freaking awesome. Love the phone, just one small problem.
Every now and then the two touch buttons (back and home) don't work, but not at the same time.
For example, im using facebook and look at an image. I try to go back but the button doesnt work so I have to use the home button. Usually it works again if u lock the phone the unlock it again.
Sometimes happens to the home button, like when you double touch the home button it shows recent applications. Again I have to lock and unlock it to get the touch buttons to work. Its not a really problem more of an annoyance, just hope it doesn't get worse. But still, I wouldn't expect this from a new phone.
I did email HTC support but they haven't got back to me, any thoughts guys?
I have rooted phones in the past and installed other ROMs, but I wanna keep the stock at least til the warranty is up on this phone. Also checked for updates, and found none.
So yeah, any thoughts
Thanks
Andy

I would return asap. That shouldn't be happening although I heard this issue from someone else but most people don't have this issue.

ALPS N9300+ i93000 capacitive buttons

Hello guys,
My China Phone S3 Clone ALPS N9300+ / i93000 is now having capacitive button issues, it was working fine before but now pressing home will only lit the led keys and it will not function like it used to... I am thinking that there might be some hardware failures already since my phone was dropped several times before...
My phone is already rooted, But if this is a hardware problem, I am wondering if there is a way to edit something on the OS or System files to just show the Navigation Bar on ICS 4.0.4? so that I won't get frustrated more loosing my capacitive buttons...
Any idea guys? I am not planning to change the ROM. because on recovery there are even some touch issues on my phone occuring...
just bringing this up... please help, or just give some info...
Thanks guys..

Samsung S4 (GT-I9505) 'back' key not working.

I've rooted my phone and flashed it back to stock 4.4.2 (TWRP recovery) because I wanted more freedom than 5.01 gave me. Everything workeds fine until it did an OTA upgrade back to 5.01.
At this point the back button stopped responding (menu button was fine). When I pressed the menu button both of them lit up, but the back button still did not respond.
I put it back to 4.4.2 again and the buttons worked just as they should, but again after an OTA upgrade the back button stopped responding. Getting tired of this, I flashed various other ROMs from Stock 5.1 to CM12.1 and whichever one I choose the same problem occurs. Only when I put it back to 4.4.2 does everything work normally.
I know I'm not the only one who has experienced this and I'm told that Samsung is aware of it happening in a very few cases, but no cure has appeared and it is getting really frustrating. Today I flashed a really great-looking ROM, which is a port from the S6 for the S4. There are one or two little issues with it, but guess what? Yes, the back button is disabled again. I have switched on the accessibility menu option, which puts a floating icon on the screen which when pressed has a few options, one of which is to go back, but this is only a workaround kludge not a solution to the problem.
Is there an expert out there that can tell me what all the later ROMs have in common which disables the back key? There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the key mechanism, such as it is, because it works perfectly under 4.4.2. I have the feeling that since this only affects a relatively few S4's the problem will not be progressed.
Does anyone out there know what is going on and can anyone help me, please?
KC
