Hello!
I am having bootloop problems with CM7 (latest RC nightly).
I don't know what is causing the loops (at the CM7 boot animation).
The only think I changed was to reformat and repartition my SD card to a 4 gb EXT-3 partition.
Will that create boot loops?
You don't have a FAT partition at all?
Does it boot OK with SD card removed?

Thanks for the post -
I formatted the card with both FAT32 and EXT.
I tried booting without the card - same issue.
I resolved it by going to Advanced and unmounting the cache. That did the trick.
I wiped cache partition and Delvik and removed SD - still bootloops.
further advice?
edit: might help if I followed directions. will fix phone later

Quick question everyone. How do I, and how should I format sd card for flashing GB rom from kaos froyo?
seems that most people have had good luck booting to recovery, mounting usb in recovery, formatting sd from computer, disconnect usb from recovery, then flash whatever rom you want.
I used the format option in recovery and formatted mine that way then connected to my pc and mounted usb to copy the rom and gapps to my sd card and flashed while still in recovery.

I did this exact same thing.
Thanks guys!
I'd like to note that I have all sorts of junk on my SD card, and haven't had a problem with any GB ROM yet.
BUT...I use Clockwork Mod through ROM Manager, which when wiping data, wipes the .android-secure folder, which is most likely anyone's trouble if they "merely" use Amon RA's wipe data option, which does not wipe .android-secure.
when i boot to recovery in the phone it tells me to reformat the sd card from adb. how do i do that?

Afraid an ADB expert will have to answer that, I've never had that problem.
i upgraded my HTC Hero (villainrom12.0) to villainrom13.0 and now i'm stuck at the boot screen forever. however if i remove my SD card it is able to boot. how can i fix it?
You can try to do a ful wipe
alright thanks. i finally fix it, i do a full wipe, formatted my SD card, and reflash the rom. first boot i have to remove the SD card for the phone to boot, then after everything is set up, i reinsert the SD card and reboot and everything's works just fine. down side is i lost all my previous apps.
by the way is it normal after flashing the villainrom13.0 i only have 30+MB for my internal memory. and Apps2SD doesnt seems to work.
ah..... not trying to bash you or anything but you do realize how old the villian rom is right?.. lol
my bad wrong forum lol ment to be in cdma
you lost your apps because you did wipe the data. didn't you make a backup with titanium?

Not working for me? Care to share your step by step instructions?
This how I tried.
Partitioned my SD Card FAT32 and EXT2 (tried EXT3 as well) -512MB
Copied ROM zip and Dalvik2SD patch to root.
Boot into recovery.
Flash the ROM
Flash the patch
Checked the internal memory size before installing any app. (avg 160MB free) Also checked EXT(2/3) size.
Installed bunch of apps. internal size reduced, nothing changed in EXT(2/3) size.
Am I missing anything?
Thanks
@nbhor : before flashing the rom have u wiped data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and wipe ext just to be sure?

Yes, followed all instructions from newbie guide. Wiped everything off. Now I am just worried about installing iGo, as it takes big chunk of memory.
I've searched and read on other sections. but I can't find a solution to this.
I've also done the specific instructions, and still got problems with moving dalvik to sd-ext. Every time I try it even with the ext3 or trying to mount as ext4 I get the HTC screen stuck on boot and can't pass that.
I can move applications but not dalvik and I need the space, as my data folder was almost completly full after a month of use in the device.
Any suggestions?
What ROM and apps2ext method are you using?
cyanogen 7.1.0 and S2E latest version.
I'm using an ext3 partition. I've wiped phone, formatted sd card with fat32, ext3 and linux swap. and if I move only apps everything works fine. if I move apps + dalvik the phone stuck on the HTC white screen.
Also is there a recovery for Aria that supports ext4?

I dunno what's causing that. I'd probably try doing a 100% clean install to see if it fixes it. (In particular, wipe data/factory reset and format system and boot partitions before installing CM7 and Gapps again.)

I don't know, but there's very little benefit to using ext4 over ext3 for this particular purpose anyway. Also mounting ext3 as ext4 is equivalent in performance to ext4, if you really care about that.
how do you format boot and system partitions? I've re installed rom and s2e again. I will try to move dalvik later today after I'll have time to backup. for now the apps moved and works fine and the option to move dalvik is available.
when I mount ext3 as ext4 the recovery shows no sd-ext available. I think it's also mark the sd-ext as ext4 again, even without any action on it, which makes the sd-ext unusable when the phone boots up. it also not allows to backup the partition.

In CWM recovery, select "mounts and storage". The options to format the boot and system partitions will be there.

Yeah, honestly, just use ext3. No one would actually notice a difference in performance between ext3 and ext4 for this particular purpose, and it's a lot more convenient to be able to make backups of the ext partition without any issues.
thx for all the help. I really don't know what is happening.
I've wiped boot + system, did factory wipe, wiped cache, installed CM 7.1.0 + Gapps, didn't even insreted sim card, installed only S2E and when i select Apps + Dalvik the phone is stuck on the HTC white screen.
Really frustrated with this.

Can you confirm that the ext partition is formatted as a primary partition (not logical)? Have you tried a different SD card? Beyond that I'm not sure what is going on.
The first boot after enabling "dalvik cache" should take a while, but it shouldn't be at the HTC white screen, it should be at the CM boot screen.
I've formatted and re formatted the card, I will try another one.
Even if it's the card, how the apps are moving fine and the dalvik doesn't.
I've tried another thing: I've partitioned the card through ROM Manager, and it created a 512MB partition. I then moved the dalvik cache to the SD-ext and it worked. then I've used gparted to resize the partition to 1024MB. it also worked. I suspect that something in the formatting process wasnt right although I've always kept on creating primary partitions.
I have a 16 GB Nook tablet currently running CM7 that I want to upgrade to CM10.
I installed CMW 6.0.1.5 to emmc and booted to the CWM installed on emmc. I tried to run backup.
It starts, reports 5477MB free, backups up boot image, recovery image, and system. Then it says
Freeing space,
Done freeing space.
Then it starts backing up files. It gets about 75% done and stops at enroll.ok
It's been stuck there for 20 minutes. What can I do?
Maybe this will help.
I would try the backup on a new or blank SD to narrow down the issue.:fingers-crossed:

Well, there's the rub. I have tried backing up from both SD card (with CWM 6.0.1.2) and emmc (with CWM 6.0.1.5).
When using emmc CWM, I have tried both backing up to external SD card and to internal SD card. Both start, but never finish
If you tried with a totally blank sd at boot and using internal cwm then it still does not complete, I sorry that I couldn't help.:fingers-crossed:

Have you tried to wipe cache and reset permissions. Do you have a lot stored to the emmc ie: books, videos etc? What size SD card are you using?
Sent from my CM 10 SD nook tablet. Thanks devs.

I'll try wipe cache and reset perms tonight. Thanks
emmc is pretty stock. No photos, vids, music, etc.
I use a 16 GB Sandisk SD card. Don't have any issues with card or ROM when running CM7.

Well, I just finished fixing perms and wiped cache. I rebooted, then restarted and enter CWM. I tried running both backup to internal and backup to SD card. Both got part way done, then froze [incidentally they froze at different spots]. I had to power down to reboot.
Im about to say "to heck with backups" and just go ahead and upgrade without it
Yep, that's what I did too and probably most of cm10 testers.

Hello there, I have an Xperia Z tablet, originally 4.1.2 but now 4.3 (i hated lollipop so rooted it and flashed JB back on). Everything going fine but now internal memory full, so 'forgetting' I have 64GB sd card, decided to partition it so I could move/link various things to free up space. Used MiniTool partition (used before on phone), and created a second partition of 9GB size in ext3.
When I tried to recreate mount scripts in Link2SD, the tablet restarted itself (didn't get the option to reboot myself) and got stuck in a boot loop. I removed the sd card and it starts fine. So back to minitool wizard I deleted second partition and recreated it in ext4 - same procedure, same boot loop. I've since recreated it in FAT32 but still i get stuck in boot loop.
I read somewhere that ext2 is not fast enough, someone's guide said to create in FAT32 and yet another said only one partition on sd card should be FAT32??? Conflicting advice aside, how do I manage to recreate mount scripts successfully without boot loop?
Not sure what other info you need, but I have (obviously?) latest busybox and SuperSU installed, no custom ROM or CWM recovery.
Any help for a wee Scots lass would be greatly appreciated
Thank you.

Maybe SD card is faulty one
I've had the sd card for over 2 years with no issue, albeit not on a rooted device. However, wondering if it was the size of the card and/or partition that may have been causing an issue, i created a 2nd partition on a smaller card, 8gb, with 7.5gb / 2gb split on ext 2, but same boot loop. I am now thinking it is how the card is being partitioned that is causing the boot loop???
