I would warn all you that by default on this phone there is SMS Delivery Report enabled...
once bought i've hard resetted the phone so i don't know if before hard reset there is this option set...
but sure, after hard reset there is!
This cost me 23Euros+taxes... it's really disappointing !
if on the sent sms there is a little "V" on the upper left corner, the option is ACTIVE !
May be in other countries this option is free.. but in italy is to be paid, and if you have a free plan, (Vodafone) this option is excluded from the free plan and you have to pay for it...
Thanks, but it is free in UK.
NO IN THE UK it's not free!!!! 3uk charge 1p per message delivery so 300 messages I sent, I was charged £3. Had to turn it off
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Also, it's not free with Orange UK... They charge something like 0.8p or similar for each delivery report...
On Vodaphone it is free and o2 don't support delivery reports
HTH
You are right guys, I am new to Orange and just checked my bill. Orange is charging 0.8p per delivery. Only over a pound to my bill, but still. Thanks for that.
I came over from Vodafone. Been with them 3,5 yearsm that's why I did not pay attention.
Same here moved from Vodafone to 3, had an iPhone 4s all this time which doesn't support delivery reports so never knew they charge untill I got the Xperia s!
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
On my phone delivery reports were not turned on when I got it...
And A1 does also charge for them btw.
in Poland that was for free here in O2 UK Pay n Go its even not working
I am on o2 Germany, my sms's show a "v" on top left of each sent SMS. I dont know if they charge for this service here in germany. I Got SMS flat though, could it be that I wont be charged for the reports since i got my Flat?
Italian here, got the phone updated it as soon as took out of the box, checked...didn't found V anywhere. By the way how do you enable/disable this feature?
Message app>Menu button>Settings>Delivery report (uncheck)
I just got my first bill since getting the phone and had about 5 pages worth of them on my bill.
They're charged at 5c each on my carrier, and don't seem to be covered under my cap. Fortunately it only added up to about $10.
It's turned off now.
I will check with my carrier tomorrow. I don't want surprises to my mom...

Why wait for orange?
If you're with orange and due an upgrade phones4u will do it. As far as i'm aware it's the same as upgrading through orange except phones4u get a cut.
I got the standard pack through from orange thanking me for staying with them, kept the same number etc......
Plus now i've got a nice unbranded phone without all the "lovely" orange extras.

WHATTTTT??? WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS????
I called and spoke to some really nice woman and she checked on their internal "coming soon" list and said that, she can see the GSII will be coming but no date. (This is in spite of the fact the "consumer" websites says June)
So where did you see that you can get it from them direct?
(My contract is such, that I could only do a straight call-up and delivery (regular) upgrade.)
I first saw it as an option when i logged into t-mobile.
Called them literally 2 hours ago and they were offering some horrendous £35 plus contracts for the handset...

Sorry to be so immature BUT OMG!!! Things must have changed since literally a few days ago!
I'm going to try and log in now. (I'm on my dad's business contract so hopefully it will cover it )
And as for the price, it is indeed a very expensive phone.
I've phoned T-Mobile up twice and both times, I've been told they're stocking them, but their internal "coming soon" doesn't actually have a release date!
However the GSII, is on their website.
So if anyone orders from T-Mobile directly, could they please inform us, and when it actually gets delivered??

I did try, but the shop here couldn't process the order.
I phoned on Saturday, they said they'd got a shipment that very morning. Mine should arrive tomorrow; I'll be happy to answer any questions
Worth noting that if you order online or over the phone, you get a 7 day cooling off period, so if you don't like T-Mobile, or your contract, or the phone, or your cat's reaction to the phone or anything else, you can send it back and the contract goes away
Source:
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/common/returns_policy.html
From what I've read, this does not apply instore. When I first signed up with T-Mobile 18 months ago in a brick-and-mortar store, I asked about this.
Me: "Do you have a cool-off policy?"
Sales guy: "Yes, we have a policy, and that policy is that we have no cool-off period."

Its not specific to T-mobile. Its a statutory protection offered in the distance selling regulations and applies to all distance sales.
I had my T-Mobile SGS2 delivered this morning.
I phoned T-Mobile up on Friday evening and they said they have just got in a delivery of SGS2's so I upgraded to it.
It has got the T-Mobile logo on boot. Havn't tried any other sim cards but I am quite sure it will be locked.

Hey all,
I asked this in the SGH-I777 section but I realized the I9100 group might be a little more internationally inclined.
I'm travelling to England for a couple weeks and was wondering what service provider would offer the best pay-as-you-go SIM.
O2 has a reasonable 10 pounds for 500 sms and 100 mins, and an addon 500mb data for 6 pounds.
I'll be in Newbury for a few days then London the rest. I don't need a whole lot of talk time but sms and data is fairly necessary...
Any advice?

Do you know where you're going to be staying when you arrive?
If you PM me the address where you'll be staying I'll post you a giffgaff SIM, you can buy a O2 (giffgaff use the O2 network) top up voucher in Tesco for £10. Register the SIM and use the voucher to top up your account, buy a £10 goodybag with the credit on your account and you'll get 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data (really unlimited, one month I pulled over 5GB on a £10 top up - pulling assorted updates and ROMs).
No contract and it'll last 30 days.
Hi!
This isn't really an important thread, but will be interesting to find out the kind of deals out there (especially for those potential XS purchasers!!)
Did any of you guys sign up on a new contract or Upgrade?
What kind of deal did you get?
Network : O2
Duration of Contract : 24 Month Contract
Line Rental : £15.50 a month (+ £3 Data bundle)
Price of Phone : Free
The deal disappeared the day after I signed up, so might have been a mistake, but I'm getting my phone tomorrow
Just purchased the phone without plan or whatever. You always have to pay the full phone price, carriers in Belgium don't do phone/plan combos.
€427 for the phone.
Network: Orange UK
Duration of Contract: 24 Month Contract
Line Rental: £28.50 a month
Minutes: 600
Texts: 3000
Internet: 1GB
Price of Phone: FREE
For brand new good phone, prices are very good, I would say. Some network carriers they still want 23-25 quid for a year old Samsung Galaxy S II.
Network: T-Mobile Netherlands
Duration: 2 years
Costs: 34.95/mo and first 6 months 50% off
Phone price: I paid around 30 for the phone, because I didn't want the extra that made it free, but there was a free option for like an extra 6 a month or so.
Internet: 500MB (I don't really care about this, with the amount of Wifi connections around..)
Extras: Sony Wireless Headset Pro

OMG...!
I paid 503 at the T-mobile shop, I could have bought it on the internet for 437, but that would have been the black one... And T-mo is the only one where it comes in white in the Netherlands (for the next for weeks) LOL
Handtec.co.uk had some nice prices, as I was importing Xperia S I've paid £354.99 on Phone + 4 Smart Tags + Case. No HDMI cable on this one, though. Still can't say if there are those Screen Protectors on it.
But, the cheapest place I could find was FNAC Portugal (fnac.pt).
They have the phone for €399.80, sim-free (unlocked) - Black one. White one is going for €390,24.
I can't really tell why this happens after finishing your purchase - remember, you have to login to finish the purchase, but the price of €479,99 gets to €390,24.
I couldnt finish my order with FNAC, that's why I bought with Handtec (Google Wallet would let me finish my order with them, FNAC does not accept Paypal nor GW).
Hope this helps.
cheapest
i definitely got the best deal
be prepared to get jealous:
have got a one year contract at KPN1500 minutes/messages and 2000mb internet which has a discount tariff of 25 instead of 150 euros for the first three months. After these first months i can adjust it to the lowest contract of KPN100 minutes and 100mb for 30 euro's. I add 250mb to this amount by paying 5 euros if i need it. Furthermore i have to pay 50 euros at the beginning which makes the total amount i have to 50+25*3+9*35=440 this is for both the phone and the contcract So to all the dutch, i would advise you to do the same if you are not in need of many minutes
I got a great deal from Phone 4U. Only a 12 month contract which you hardly ever see now!
£31 per month and the phone was £55
I will have to pay £70 to end my existing contract early and port my number though.

Right now in fnac.pt Black is out of stock and doesn't show any discount and White is 2-4 weeks for delivery with that nice price, not sure if they ship outside of EU because with that ETA I didn't tried to purchase. Handtec is supposed to start shipping tomorrow, or at least I was told so by chat minutes ago, so I guess I'll wait for it.
I was just aiming to get the phone cheap.
o2, 24 month contract.
£79.99 for phone
£10.50 contract + £3 data (which I will remove right away)
£111.10 cashback from topcashback
grand total after cashback £220.89

I got my White Xperia S for HK$4699 which is around GDP$387
with one year contract HK$68 = HK$816 (GDP$67)
and my mum traded-in her G2S and get a white Xperia S, she paid HK$1299 (GDP$109) without contract.
As you know, we've a few phone shops. From small stores to high street retailers.
Basically, under Irish consumer law you are entitled to a new item if it takes more than one 28 days to get replaced- one of your three consumer rights. If your Sony Xperia S is getting sent back to get investigated, it can take that time, or longer, to get dealt with.
My advice is that if you're in Ireland, with a friendly tone and some consumer knowledge you can get it swapped for a newly manufacturered model there and then.
As a former law student, sales and retail expert and mobile enthusiast, I'm sharing my knowledge with you. Contact the Consumer Association for details.
Sure, who wants to wait over a month for a phone they paid several hundred euro for?

Nice law ...
Verstuurd van mijn LT26i met Tapatalk
im from the phillipines, i wish we have that law here in the phillipines.
If only!
You do need to play the cards correctly to get what you want.
Most shops have their own policies, but consumer law always overrides them.
We've a right to one of the three R's:
- Repair
- Replacement or
- Refund.
It's probably one of the only good things that Ireland does right, but that's another story!

So where do i take the phone to sony centre or sony service centre- are they both same .. Did they reopen .. it was all closed for while back in april there was some issues...

Thanks, as an Irish person with Yellow Tint, what should i do? is the shop i bought it in first port of call? and then if they say it will take over 28 days inform them of this law?
One of the reasons i havent brought it in yet is the long wait time
I really wish it worked that easy! I sent my brand new Xperia S back to Sony through the Carphone Warehouse, and it was gone for about 5-6 weeks! When I asked for a replacement after 28 days, I was informed that the phone was only logged onto there (Carphone Warehouse) system 3 weeks ago, so it was within the 28 days!
Although I did get my phone back eventually, I hate the idea of having a €400 repaired phone!
Mine also have the yellow tint but it does not matter... When I turn brightness up it goes away... And I see this as an led issue... Not a defect
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
The tint actually gets worse with time, dropped mine into fonemenders and they look for €15. Bring it to the carrier store and its free.
But still wait upto a month to get it back.

Just for anyone looking for sim free stock in the UK, I just got an email from clove saying they are getting some white 920 in tomorrow and their site says £520 inc vat. I'd imagine they'll go quick so get over there if you want one.
I caved and picked one up at the weekend on contract in black and it's an awesome phone. Had a look at white, but actually think black looks classier with the matt finish and also feels nicer to hold than the gloss white. The white still looks very nice though in the flesh - I was very tempted!

Update from Clove.
"Hi all,
Just to confirm:
If you have managed to place an order, your Lumia 920 will be shipped from stock that we receive this week.
We shipped as many orders as possible on 13/11, but due to the late arrival of stock and the timings of our courier collections, we were unable to ship some orders. We do expect to ship remaining outstanding orders today.
At the moment we do not know when we will receive more stock, nor stock of the other colour variants, but will provide an update as soon as we have some more info."

Would it be possible for someone who's ordered from clove be able to confirm the device is factory unlocked please? I'm on an O2 contract, and very tempted to get myself a 920 factory unlocked/sim free, provided it will accept my o2 sim card, unlike the "sim free but locked to EE" devices that phones4u are selling. I know Clove are stating that their devices are factory unlocked, but it'd be nice if this could be confirmed.
Thanks
Ian
A guy on a norwegian smartphone forum got his today, its unlocked.
Also, I have an email from Clove confirming that they are in fact unlocked and will work with my operator here in Norway, which would mean its fully unlocked indeed.
did the norwegian guy get his phone from clove?
Thanks
Ian
Yeah of course, I thought that was implied .

Thanks

I got mine yesterday too. I am on Giffgaff, which uses the o2 network, which works fine!
