Ok, ive done some searching and im fairly sure there isnt a thread addressing this, but if im wrong i apologize.
The issue im having is what appears to be slightly low FPS in video playback, primarily HD video. I have The Smurfs (yup, grown man with The Smurfs as his test video, long story) and it is a Blu-Ray rip, 720p. When i play the video back its slightly choppy in some places and then extremely choppy in others. The only way to describe it is as if the framerate is dropping too low in some places. Now, i have tried a couple other rips and they do the same thing.
At first i thought it was my source files, like i did something wrong when ripping them, so i took the exact same files and put them on my Atrix, a bone stock Atrix with no OC or anything, and playback is flawless, i mean its gorgeous.
Here is what ive tried and nothing has worked. Ive copied the videos from my SD card to the phones internal storage. Ive tried multiple video apps including Dice and MX Player, also attempted going from HW to SW encoding. Nothing seems to help at all.
Is this something nobody else is seeing? Could it be a codec issue? I mean, is the default player on the Atrix and the supported Codecs different than that on the Note? I truly dont know which is why im asking. Any help would be appreciated. Ive only had the phone for four days, so exchanging isnt an issue, but pointless if the problem is going to persist.

I will chime in as another that has the smurfs. ..no chopiness but I am using a custom Rom
Are you stock or rooted with a Rom?
On stock both my copy of lmfao sexy and i know it and the smurfs were choppy in spots
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
I am running stock and unrooted. I realize the benefits of both I just haven't taken the plunge yet. Mainly because I want to make sure the phone is working properly before I do that way if I need to exchange it I can go right in and do it. No need to unroot and revert to stock.
This phone is supposed to be a powerhouse and with its specs, well, it should be able to do anything the Atrix can. So far I'm EXTREMELY happy with every other aspect of the phone but this video playback issue could very well make me want to jump off the bandwagon if its a common issue.
Also this choppiness that I'm seeing is constant and at some points it gets worse but its always there.

I see the same thing in HD clips. Also coming from the Atrix where I never saw anything like that. Neither phone was rooted or overclocked.
Just another one of the few quirks I've seen on this phone. I am hoping that the first system update (whenever that will be) will correct a lot of these minor things.

I'm leaving the country again on monday and I'm currently running bottle of smoke. Im kinda iffy about if I should downgrade before leaving. I guess my only concern is the lag but I'm wiring is others can tell me the pros and cons of each

I would downgrade to a froyo rom just becuase BOS is still technically an alpha build, and not intended for daily use, yet.
there are no Nvidea video drivers for Gingerbread or Honeycomb, yet, so regardless of how pretty they look, or how lightning quick they are, the most complete, usable version of Android for the G-Tablet is the one that is officially supported. That being Froyo. I'm running BC and loving it. I've had no problems, everything I throw at it plays well. It's quick, battery life is good, it's stable, and the Angry Birds are still able to shut my wife up for a while...that's all I really need.
what rom are you running if i may ask?

I'm running VegantabGinger, with pershoot's latest kernel, and everything runs fine for me. Then again, I don't have a large library of full-rez HD video on it, so I guess that's the only thing that wouldn't work smoothly.
Then again, why not downsample video to take up half the space? The display isn't even 720p, seems a waste of space to throw full HD at it.

"Not intended for daily use" is a pretty ambiguous phrase in the world of hacked Android ROMs and mods.
I happen to be using Bottle of Smoke 2.4 as a daily driver and I have zero issues that cause me to require a different ROM. Some people consider full hardware acceleration and flash a deal-breaker, I do not.
Email, web browsing and the vast majority of my chosen apps (including all of the Angry Birds ones) work perfectly, so I am not going back.
"Officially supported" is another good one.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the only one that is ACTUALLY supported officially is the stock TapNTap one. Of course, as we all know, getting official support from Viewsonic is pretty much a joke anyway.
The support available here and at a couple of other sites is more than enough for most, I think. But BC and VEGAn and CM and the other flavors are not supported by any "official" entity that I am aware of, except their developers.
To sum it up, the OP should go with whichever configuration works for them most completely.
media files erased after installing Gingerbread
I ve been using my GTab for months with no problem until I installed Vegan Gingerbread. Now my media files are getting erased. I inserted .nomedia in my media folders to prevent this, but it is just a workaround until I find a better solution. Can anybody help, please? None of my video players can find my files now. Thanks.
you only need .nomedia during the data wipe or rom install process I think. maybe try making a new folder with one video music and picture and see if all three remain after a couple reboots. then you know you can remove .nomedia files from your main folders.
I know the sensation is fairly close to the rezound.. anyone think something like this may be possible?

Almost positive Joel will be adding it to his next BAMF release.
That would be icing on the cake.
Is this the same thing or different ?

That is kind of the same thing I had both mods on my sensation. Both looked good but I liked the BR one better.

I'm more excited about this mod than anything else with this phone. And that's saying a LOT.

This would be amazing on our phones! I too am more excited about this mod than any other. I use my camera a lot!
If it corrects for the pops and squeaks during video recording, then that would be icing on the cake. True 30fps recording would great too. I've had pretty severe frame-rate drops during recording.
I went ahead and installed the program and it appears to work. I get larger JPG images and 1080 video at higher bitrates. A few things though. The icons at the bottom are physically lower on the screen so the text on the bottom gets cut off. The button to the gallery doesn't work from video mode but appears ok from camera mode. The effects appear to work too. This is just my preliminary findings.
I'm on CleanRom 4.1 without any of the mods.
Edit: xsnapshot, I haven't noticed the pops and squeaks since the radio update in January. I didn't notice any on the test video I took, but it was only for 10 secs so I'm not sure. I'll take a longer video later and see if I can hear the pops and squeaks.
Edit2: Not sure why you linked to an Engadget post when the original post is in XDA. Here it is so you can get the app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238
I installed this yesterday and haven't had any issues with it. I have not used my Rezound camera enough to really notice a difference. I guess I should have taken a before and after pick to see if the file size changed much.
I didn't flash it. Opened the zip up and pushed each item to my phone.
I did take a picture of some clouds yesterday evening. File size was 2.62MB
Installed this tonight, my photo file sizes are huge now, though I've not seen a huge difference in 1080p video quality. I'll do some outdoor testing tomorrow, to see if there is a difference.
I'll try to post some results if I get around to it

Out of curiosity... can this be undone
if you reflash a rom without it, yeah lol...
this doesn't do anything for video, btw guys..in joels rom it didn't, anyway. still recorded at around 8mbps, wouldn't ever hit above that to get even near 20...photo's seemed to work uncompressed though; they're bigger in size
Hi!
I'm an avid atrix user for some time now.
I browsed and tried most of the roms and mods available on the dev page.
I'm currently sticking with neut 2.6 CM7 rom and everything is splendid except for one thing;
When my phone is in the lapdock, the phone is mirrored quite well and even allows me to playback simple videos, however what bothers me is that it doesn't make use of the full resolution of the screen.
Is there some fix for it?
I tried the original webtop software and I can barely use it for web browsing, not to mention video playback.
Is there some kind of fix for that, some app or mod which I can use?
I tried all sorts of roms, CM9, CM7, MIUI and all sorts of official and modded official ones.
If there are none, what do we lack in terms of development?
It's one of the only things that still bother me with the Atrix.
Thank you for your patience and every piece of help is appreciated.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472382
this is the closest I found, however it doesn't seem to work with nottachtrix, I might be doing something wrong.
im on aokp 36 and when i try and watch crackle or neflix, i get audio only. you tube works fine, but these 2 apps dont show video. i have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared data, removed anything with thier names, reinstalled flash, and nothing fixes it.
any one else having this issue?
They won't work until Motorola gives ICS support for Atrix, which won't happen till Q3 in the year. Something wrong with the drivers. Best you can do is clench your teeth and go back to 2.3.x.... but it's not worth it to me, though. Sorry

That sucks I guess I'll stick to watching stuff on my desktop till then.
Just noticed that whenever I try to record video in 720p, the screen blinks intermittently throughout the recording. It only happens in 720p, not even in 1080p. My wife's gs2 has the same rom installed as mine and her's does not have this problem. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
No blink here. Running shostock.
Are your defaults set to record to extsd? What class SD?
It's saving to internal sd.
Switched mine to internal. Still no blink, on stock camera and ics camera.
Sorry,thought I could help.
Might make a difference where the apk is installed. I'd try moving it to either the phone or extsd
Then again this could be a biproduct of the rom.

If it was a bi product of the rom his wife's phone would be experiencing it too.
To the OP-u need to provide more information when u ask for help. What kernel are u running? What ROM? Underclocked or undervolted? When did the issue first start? Does playback on a PC look the same as playback on phone? What video settings are u using in the video settings menu? All these things equal someone actually being able to HELP u.

If it's one thing i've learned, through the hundreds of threads i've scoured through on this forum, it's that some phones are just an aberration.
Some people get wake-locks, some don't.
Some people have bluetooth issues, some don't.
You get the point......

All the info is in my sig. It is overclocked and undervolted, but I put everything back to stock to test and it still gave me the same problem. The blinking happens while recording and during playback on the phone. Have not tried on pc. All video settings are default while trying to record. It is strange that it only happens with 720p and nothing lower or higher. You'd think it would happen with 1080p as well at least if it was a performance issue. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

No Worries =). It seems the problem fixed itself after a few days. Although I only noticed the change after flashing a different modem and uninstalling a couple things. Probably coincidence. Thanks for the help guys.
