Okay I just need to ask one thing please. When flashing a ROM it says move the zip to your sd card. I've heard people refer to both the internal and external as SD cards so which is it? Do I move the tar to the internal or external card?

*You should be putting a zip file of the ROM you want to flash, it should be a zip due to it being an executable type file...
**And to be safe should be your internal sd....not your external sd
**So if your looking at your phone thru windows explorer....put your zip file of the ROM on the "phone" as listed in the windows explorer...not card, for a safe bet
***And when in CWM you will go to >install zip from sdcard >choose zip from internal sdcard > then look for your ROM you are installing...zip file...
Maybe you should do some more reading on flashing...there are lots of YouTube vid on flashing for the NOTE...do a google search...
better safe...
I've been doing a bit of reading.. I'm looking for the most stable and most usable ROM. Team Perfections ICS Objection I've read good things about but I'm not 100% sure at this point.

I use what bigfau makes, since I have know him from the Infuse and still he works with the Infuse community and here also. I consider it my DD for my phones both his ROMs.

For both my phones, as you can see in my signature links on the bottom, But you will have to test for yourself to find your DD :fingers-crossed:
Thanks so much for the help. I've got the flashing down now. I'm curious about one thing... Is there any ROM that sets the icons back to five wide like on the stock gingerbread?

They should if their running the tw launcher.
Even in his video review of the UCLE2 you can see that it's only 4 icons. Is that something that changes in UCLF5?
use a different launcher than touchwiz, and you can have many app icons in the tray..

Thanks, I went with Apex Launcher and it works amazing. I'm not too worried about UCLF5 so I'm just sticking with UCLE2 and Apex for now and probably till Jellybean comes out.
I use Nova, but lots of folks use Apex..
Ok so i was having some laggy issues w the x2 and all the sudden i started getting process not working for things like nova laucher and such. SO i went into BSR to wipe cache and fix the permissions. Did that and now the phone sits on the Big M boot screen. Why wont it boot up. I didnt wipe dat or try to flash anything. Any way to get the phone up and runnig again w/ o SBF'g

Well what ROM are you using for starters.
that might be important right.. .sorry.. its aokp 6
Ok. Well if you can get back into BSR, try and wipe the dalvik cache in the advance settings. I never use the fix permissions option. Maybe that did something to your device.

Well I wouldnt see why it would do that if you just wiped cache and fixed permissions. Did you have any other mods on there? Were you using the patched CM7 BSR and not the original one?
i was using the motodx2_bootstrap_signed.apk. Not sure if the cm7 or not. Ive used this on eclipse and aokp

That one is fine to use on Eclipse. But pretty much any other ROM we have (CM7, CM9, CM10, AOKP, Paranoid Android and I think even MIUI), you need to use the CM7 BSR named "MOTODX2_Bootstrap-CM7-signed.apk" which is found in the CM7 thread. That may have been the problem.
really... damn. i dl'd it so when i flash cm10 but did not install it for thw aokp. Just off your thoughts is the cm10 stable enough now to install. i have no prob putting aokp back on but im nott looking for stability problems. If cm10 isnt stable yet i van wait

I think CM10 is more stable than any of the ICS ROMs. But with the stability, there comes other small issues that the ICS ROMs dont have. Its a trade off. Main issues of CM10:
1. Messing with bluetooth may cause phone to crash durring calls. Reboot fixes it until bluetooth is messed with again. (Might be fixed with an update)
2. Storage is in a different location. Not really an issue but its also swapped back to the original 4gigs for the internal. All your files will be flipped after using other ROMs for so long. (not a huge deal)
3. Due to the storage being moved around, apps that are stored on the SD card will disappear after reboot. (will probably be fixed in the future)
4. Flashing ROMs in recovery wont work. If any update comes out, you have to either SBF and update or nandroid back to ICS and update. (again, not a huge issue)
Other than that, I cant really think of any bad stuff. Its faster and I have no random reboots. I recommend it if you can live with the issues I mentioned which are honestly not bad.
Also, with the BSR files, in case you dont know already. When you are on stock 2.3.4, you first use the original BSR. Then when you flash CM10, you install the CM7 BSR.
Thanks JS
1. I never use blue tooth so then i should be all set then.. correct?
2. didnt aokp have that. I know the eclipse rom had the flip flop in it to read right but aokp i had to move my music and such so wouldnt i still be in the same boat or is it different than oakp?
3. i have some apps.. such as thems i have downloaded off of xda. So once installed they will work but rebooting will make them dissapear? is there a way to put these on the phone memory? Also curious i have google drive and have some of these installed on the drive. Will they still work or do they just dl to the sd and still not work?
4 i dont have a problem sbf'g but wondering if i nandroid the a2, will i be able to sbf, install root, a3 ect and do a data restore to get my info back?
also i will take the cm7 bsr and remeber that. Thanks

1. I use bluetooth every now and then but I never turn it off. It seems that toggling the bluetooth on and off or visa versa triggers the issue and a reboot fixes it again.
2. I forget what Eclipse had. Its been so long. But ever since CM7, the flip flop mod has been included in all the ROMs which meant you got your SD card (which the droid X2 comes with 8GB) as internal storage and the actual 4GB internal storage was turned into the "external storage." CM10 reverted back to the original 4GB internal and 8GB external.
3. Everything you download and install on your phone will usually be installed on the internal storage. I think if you have apps over a certain size (which isnt very many. Mostly games), they are installed on your SD card. Those are the ones the system has a problem reading after a reboot. the actual files you have downloaded from XDA will still be there. Just installed apps might disappear.
4. Not really sure what you are asking here. But if you get A2 installed and up and running and A3 comes out, You will pretty much need to start over. But for me, thats fine. I use Titanium Backup and restore everything after a wipe anyway. What data are you referring to?

Pete's can be a PITA... If usb debug is enabled and unkown sources is checked just keep trying. I've had to "one click" 5 or 6 times before it works right. Close the program between tries. Also make sure your phone isn't in PC charge mode or anything.

Lol oh and btw MD5 checksums are
"The MD5 checksum for a file is a 128-bit value, something like a fingerprint of the file. There is a very small possibility of getting two identical checksums of two different files. This feature can be useful both for comparing the files and their integrity control."
hey guys
i have yesterday in fact got cwm on my sgp 5.0

i can only have 1.88 gb of space on the internal sd card (its a 16gb sd)
can any one give me a hand? with this thanks
and also i cannot connect my sgp to my computer as windows 7 comes up with usb device not recognized
please help a brother out thanks all
P.S i have all the kernal files and roms that i have loaded onto my sgp if needed
I suspect you've got a few full (i.e. from CWM) backups stored on the internal drive. THose suckers take at LEAST 1 gig for each backup point.
Also, you might try deleting the actual rom image files from your device, since they're not needed after flashing.
Finally, try searching the app store for a disk usage analyzer to help you track down the bloat. There are a few decent free ones out there.
Ohk thanks for the hand with this

i had a similar issue..my actual sd card that i could take in and out was labeled as "internal" and viceversa. so to get into my actual cd card i would have to go into the "internalsd" folder instead of the external..so try that, maybe yours got switched. im sure your 16gs is still at least half way empty. i dont remember what i did to reverse this affect but i think it just fixed it on its own i cant remember.
connect to computer windows 7
Make sure debugging is unchecked(applications>development>usb debugging)otherwise the computer will not reconize the unit

Hey guys any other suggestions how to fix cause I like this Rom soo much and I don't really wanna reflash my tablet
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda premium
You flashed ICS Crumble, which is AOKP based. I'm thinking you're suffering from a known code issue that switches the storage locations on your device. So, in a file explorer you'll notice that what was "external" on stock ROM is now registered as "internal", and what was registered as "internal" on stock ROM is now listed as "external" on ICS ROMs.
I attached a patch for it here. It's a patch that you flash in recovery. So, put it in an easily navigable directory.
By the way, not sure if you know, or not, but ICS Crumble is a really old ROM and Reuben is not developing it any more. If you want something more recent, I recommend Supermaster34's CM9 or Remics-UX (Samsung touchwiz look-alike). Also, we have some amazing devs in this forum that are working on a kernel 3.x and Jelly Bean build for our device (5.0). That could hit beta stage in the near future.
thanks higg
thanks man it worked
i would buy you beer right now
anyway so you say theres new roms out?
well im currently running cwm5 and im unsure of how to upgrade it to 9
do i do it the same as the storage swap zip?
if you can get the correct file for my tablet i would owe you even more
and once again thank you soo much you rock!!!
I'm glad that I could help. I gotta give credit where it's due. The patch I attached is something Reuben, the developer of ICS Crumble, added to patch the storage issue. I keep a copy of the patch handy for those who need it.
CWM refers to ClockWorkMod. CWM is just another name for recovery mode where you flashed that patch. CM9 refers to Cyanogenmod 9 which is a modified build of Google's open-source Ice Cream Sandwich code. CM10 refers to Jelly Bean, but our developers are still working on a kernel 3.0 and a stable build for our devices. AOKP, which I mentioned earlier, is similar to CM9 with some subtle differences.
If you search the Galaxy Player's development forum with the phrase "CM9" you should see some current ROMs. Right now, a developer by the name of Supermaster34 has some awesome ICS builds for the SGP 5.0. I highly recommend his work.
As for the storage issue and patch, you'll probably have to flash that patch every time you flash a new ICS ROM. Because, when you flash a ROM, you usually need to format the system and do a data wipe. But, the only way to be 100% sure is check your directories with a file explorer after flashing a new ICS ROM. (Also, always remember to backup your current ROM before flashing a new one!)
Edit:
Here is the link for the ROM I use from Supermaster34's.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957
Just go to the OP (Original Post) of this thread and follow the instructions. If you look in the "extras" section, you'll see the Bluetooth patch there too. You flash the ROM and the Bluetooth patch in recovery mode. If you have a USA model, skip the step for the home button fix. Good luck.
In all of my ICS ROMs I've already swapped the memory locations around so you won't need to flash the swap storage patch. Personally I'd recommend RemICS-UX over my CM9 ROM as its got more features and I usually update it more often, but it does have a Samsung like ui so not everyone like it

title shows the way it is...i've had it UP TO HERE with Boot manager.
I love the HTC Sense 4.1 camera on Newts HTC One XxX ROM but I dont like the bloaty sense framework that It has...right now i'm running AOKP 1.6 Linaro because it's fast and has no sense. unfortunately, I can't have both..and I found out that an app can "dual boot" your phone into 2 separate ROMS so that you can enjoy both. However i've been having NOTHING but PROBLEMS with boot manager. What started off as a simple idea has become a curse spewing nightmare
I'm s-Off and running Snuzzo's kernel from AOKP 1.6
1. I've searched the forums and done everything that other people have said
2. I'm using the Lite Version of Boot Manager since I only need one slot.
3. I have errors with "Error building new boot.img"
4. Disabled SU Logging and even wiped and tried SuperSU instead! (with logging disabled of course)
5. tried to install slot 1 via Zip file AND NANDROID BACKUP. Still having issues!
6. When installs are successful with no errors, when rebooting into the SDCARD Rom it just hangs at the HTC splash screen. mocking me.
7. Tried installing from external and internal storage..same problems...and i'm having a flip flop issue as well in regards to that..**
I'm at my wits end and am about to scrap this whole dual boot idea
**What I will say is that file explorer apps show my SD card as Internal Storage. and the internal storage shows my SDcard files...dafuq?! maybe SD card format?? that's for another forum question though...
If anyone can help me get this to work..I'll thank you and be sure to buy the app. But as for now...I'm glad I didn't spend my damn money!

From what ive heard the app has been abandoned by the developers. I wanted to dual boot too but I got the same error with the error building new boot.img as well so i quit trying. btw are you s-off? the app requires s-off so it can flash the other boot.img of the Sd roms.

what about the other people that have got it working???...how come they didn't have to quit?
Maybe the AOKP ROM i'm using is bad (since the SD CARD and INTERNAL MEMORY labels are switched and it possibly is confusing the boot partition)...perhaps I should try installing the AOKP Rom on sense
Took me a few tries but I did this :
Use ext4
Use internal sd
Force screen on
Install from nandroid
For me it's actually easier to just restore nandroids if u wanna jump from one rom to another..

In AOKP the labels are switched..so use the bullet option "external SD" because the internal SD is labeled as the external.
INTERESTING: when I set boot manager to install to internal (i have to select "external) it STILL installs it to the sdcard but in a folder that says sdcard/sd-ext.
NOT to the actual internal memory. I will move that folder to the real internal memory when the install finishes and see if it will work. If not. I'm almost POSITIVE that the switched Internal Memory and SD card labels in AOKP are to blame...and it that's not the problem. boot manager can f$#k itself.
Edit: I fuking quit. I did everything and the install worked from a sense ROM.but it past the splash screen and hung at a black screen.
I'm such a whore for screencast and that 4.1 Sense camera..i'll stay with One xXx for a while (even though sense ROMS are against my grain)
Boot manager hasn't worked properly with aosp since the mount points were fixed in aosp. It's the way it differs from sense. Using emmc as internal unlike sense which It's mounted as sd card. You can use it to switch between sense roms all you want to but not aosp
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
im not sure if this is one of the problems but i noticed when i tried to use it earlier that it asked if i was on the newest hboot (2.21) or an older one but we are actually on 2.27 so that could be messing with things
I used to use Boot Manager with 2.25 with no issues, and there isn't much difference between 2.25 and 2.27.
I'm in a very similar boat....I have a recent ota RUU and s-off and bootmanager actually installs for me (yay) but I never have data. EVER. Data never works for any slot roms, only for my phone rom. I hear this is because of AOKP vs sense. My phone rom is Viper rom, and I tried to put AOKP linario for my slot 1. It installs and boots fine but I dont have data. I also tried MIUI but again no data. However if I put them on my phone rom, I have data. I figured I put it on the phone rom, make a nand, put viper back as my phone rom, then nand restore MIUI or linario to a different slot ..... no go - still no data. I think I read here that at this point I can only user boot manager to switch between sense roms and not between aokp/sense.
If it's also true that they dropped support for it I will be extremely sad. I paid for an app that doesn't even work/have suppor then .......
I actually just pm'd both devs the other day. I'd have emailed but their email rejects anything saying "over quota" or something. And their forums give me a 500 http server error.
If you make and headway let me know because I'm lost too
Hey guys,
I've been lurking for a little while now and reading up on steps I need to follow to swap my internal and external memory, but I wanted to clarify something to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. First off, I have a Verizon Note 2 that I rooted using Odin and running "Jelly Beans build.1 VRALJB 4.1.1 by Beanstown106". That's as far as I've gone thus far. I tried just using directory bind to install apps to my external micro sd card, but that program has too many issues to use reliably. Apps were forcing close and the app itself was glitching. I've decided to run a memory swap mod, but from what I've gathered, I'll need to unlock the bootloader and flash a new rom. So here's my plan (please let me know if there's some flaw in it):
1) I'll unlock the bootloader using AdamOutler's guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043636
2) I figured the next easiest step would be to just flash a custom rom that includes the memory swap in it inherently, like the angelROM TouchWiz debloat build here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055073&nocache=1
Thanks for any info you folks can provide. This is my first time jumping into advanced Android modifying and I'm nervous about mixing the wrong builds/roms and bricking my phone.
P.S. One last thing: Does anyone know if AFTER having run the mod to swap memory, if you can transfer all the data to a new (larger) memory card and swap them out? I have a 32 GB card but intend to get a 64 GB one in the next few days. Can I flash the angelROM build now and then just swap them when I get the larger card or will that cause issues?
There shouldn't be any issue as long ss you turn off the phone and then remove the 32GB SD and use your computer to handle the swap. It wont break anything if the phone is on but it'll make it act a smidge wonky imo.
Also: http://db.tt/NtrxYbU8
Its a zip that will switch the sd card positions. This isnt my original work but I use it because it works no questions asked.

Thanks so much for the info! I'm still a little nervous about whether or not I'm missing a step between unlocking the bootloader and then jumping into the "memory swap ROM" immediately. Can anyone verify that my plan is correct and whether or not the angelROM w/ memory swap mod is OK on our Verizon Note 2's?
As long as you use the angelROM for the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 Development section you will be fine. After unlocking the bootloader via Adam's process you should have TWRP recovery, which will allow you to fladh the rom.
Download the rom to either your internal storage or your external storage.
Extra: from what I have been told flashing modem's (new radios) that leak will screw up the current ROM you are using. So if new radios leak anytime soon and you are still running the sd card swap you will need to undue that if you plan to flash them.
Extra 2: I can't vouch for it myself because I'm having my own problems after undoing the zip file i shared, but I know undoing the zip is as easy as using root explorer to delete the alteration in the init.d file under etc, so theres that.
Tl; dr: after you unlock the bootloder you are good to run the swap.

Great, thanks again for all your help! I'll give it a go tonight. I'm actually fairly techie and have hacked many devices in the past, but I feel like modding Android devices is probably one of the toughest yet. There are just so many variations of rom builds and hacks, coupled with the confusion of WAY too many android devices and specifics for different carriers... It's hard keeping everything straight. Thanks again! :good:
Omg this is a God sent post! Ok so I have the 16gb and I only have 2gigs left lol,... Ok but what happens when you flash a new rom or an update from Verizon comes out am I going to have to revert back and be tranfering data each time? Will recovery recognize the memory swap? After the memory swap will I have to move or copy everything over before or after the swap, if after how will it boot if it thinks it's OS is on the memory card now.... If I revert back does that mean the OS needs to be copied back to internal memory before the swap... Ughhhh this is too much but I LOVE my phone and there is no other way I have to get this working... I really hope they improve this method

Also is this future proof as I won't be able to fit my data back on the 16gb internal

So to answer some questions:
It will revert back to normal between roms. Thats why I recommend using the zip I posted. Again its not my work and I am not taking credit for it. But that zip can be applied to any rom.
You should worry more about losing the bootloader and root under new software because most likely that will happen.
I suggest doing a clean install with the swap, and not installing apps. Otherwise you will have to move stuff manually.
Rom will continue to work if you want to remove the init.d file but most likely have sd card issues as I am seeing. Instagram doesnt recognize I have an sd card in. Its hit or miss and in now way reflects the owners work, its the nature of the beast unfortunately.
Hope that helps
EDIT: The zip isnt rom specific, whereas angelROM is specifically for that rom

Ok so when those custom ROM's have an update that requires it to boot into recovery am I going to have to revert back or will the recovery recognize that the memory has been switched and apply whatever update like normal inside of recovery? Thanks for your help

Lets say you use cyanogen right? And a new version of the rom comes out. It will recognize whatever is currently your external and internal, but when you flash a new rom it will revert back to original paths.
EDIT: This doesn't apply to the angelROMs that have the switch pre applied

That I am unsure of. Because data wipes everything I believe it would get rid of the init.d file so it woukd revert back to normal, but I'm not 100% sure on that

Ok, so I followed the steps I detailed in my OP and everything went pretty well. I'm running angelROM v4 and wanted to update to the v6 that was posted but I'm unable to boot back into recovery mode now... After initially unlocking, I made a nandroid backup in TWRP, but now I can't seem to get back into recovery mode. I power off and hold volume - & power but the phone just boots back up normally. Is there something I'm missing here? Does flashing a new rom remove the TWRP recovery option or something?
Never mind. I apologize if I wasted anyone's time with this. I figured out I can reboot into recovery mode by using Rom Toolbox. I just figured there would be a shortcut that would allow me to do it without it also.
Ok so your not able to use the power + up key combination like normal?

You know, I never saw in any of my searching any indication that "volume + & power" was the correct key combination to boot to recovery. Everything I found said that to boot into recovery mode in TWRP, you need to use "volume - & power", not volume +. I'll give that a go. Thanks!
By the way, I'm just about ready to give up on this whole memory swap mod thing. Has anyone gotten it working without issues? The angelROM I posted about earlier worked but when apps were installed they didn't get allocated to the correct memory. For example, I first attempted to install some of my backups from Titanium Backup Pro, and when I did that, the apps installed to the (switched) "card" memory. Which, of course, is pointless, since the whole idea is to get them to install on the external sd card so the device can hold more apps. I initially figured this was probably a limitation with restoring apps in Titanium Backup, so I tested installing some apps directly from the google play store. When I did that, those apps ended up taking up memory on BOTH storage locations. Example: EXT MEM had 10 GB and INT MEM had 4 GB before I installed a 1 GB app. AFTER installing that app, my EXT MEM had 9 GB and my INT MEM had 3 GB.
At that point I figured it was probably an issue with the angelROM itself so I ditched it and moved on to Bean's Revision 4 (which I like the look of more anyway). That happens to have a "memory swap" option so I enabled that and I'm getting the EXACT same issues. So my question is this: has anyone been able to use the memory swap mod and install apps on the external sd card WITHOUT the app taking up equal space on the internal storage? If so, what did you do to get it to work?
P.S. I'd post these questions in the angelROM thread or bean's revision 4 thread, but being new here, my post count is still too low to ask questions on the development boards. Thanks!
