[Q] How to transfer everying to a new tablet - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello,
My Prime developed a strange white blotch on it's screen and I am replacing it with a new one. Is there an easy way to make the new tablet have all the same apps, settings, and files as the old one? Basically, can you make a pefectly identical twin?
Thanks

If you're rooted then use Titanium Backup.

I'm not rooted, but will do it if Titanium backup can make a perfect clone of my tablet. It does that?

Perfect clone no. Nothing will will unless you're unlocked and restore a nandroid backup.

Unlocked? Meaning root the tablet?
Edit: Nevermind. You mean the bootloader...duh.

There is probably no clone without root and unlock.
However you can backup it with google account.
When you logged your new one with this account and choose restore your backup it should download and install your apps. Also some settings can be restore with google account.

Alternatively, you can use the ASUS backup apps to backup non-system apps.
Copy backup data to the new PRIME then you restore them by using the ASUS Backup app.
Hopefully it will be helpful.

I can't believe there isn't a simple way to do this. If I accidentally drop my tablet in the ocean, I should be able to buy a new one and restore everything exactly as it appeared on the old one (assuming I made a backup before bidding it bon voyage). This capability should be built into the OS.

Obvious troll is obvious. -5/10, at least try to troll successfully. Maybe you should get that giant phallus out of your mouth and actually try thinking for once.

No, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to troll anyone and I seriously hate Apple and don't own a single Apple product for that reason. This is the first time my Prime hasn't been significantly better than all my friend's iPads. I forgot that it can be a touchy subject around here and probably shouldn't be joked about. Again, I apologize.
I honestly thought there would be a perfect solution and simple process for accomplishing this. Maybe there is and I just haven't found it yet. Unless anyone else has a suggestion, I will try the suggestions from [email protected] and prettyboy85712. Thanks guys.
jdeoxys, your reaction was a little over the top. With the giant phallus comment and all. Overlooking that part, I understand your comment.

No, it was clearly troll comment. Apple was not mentioned in the op so that means you were trYing to elicit replies which constitutes trolling

Now that you explain it that way, I think you are completely right. Again, I'm sorry for my troll comment. I'd like to remove it so the thread can go back on topic. Would you be willing to remove your comments as well so the thread can be something useful?

Harmful App(s) in the Market

Hey everybody!
Last time I gave my new s2 to my girlfriend, she installed an strange app from the market called pesoguin sakura dance (free) (should be on top if you search "tamagotchi" - it was surely the last time i handed it over to her haha).
Reading a comment like "damaged my phone" about the app unsettled me a bit and leads me to the question, if an app from the market could damage my/a phone irreparable?
I tested that app with lookout and didn't find anything. If you look on over 260 averaged 4 stars ratings and 50 - 250 000 downloads you shouln't think that there's something wrong. But, as i said, there's that comment; and i heard from another guy that there could be apps, which change the os of a phone.
Am I too careful and there's nothing (with this app) that should upset me or are there apps which do sth without me realizing anything.
Thanks.

Reason being it's a pretty stupid question
Unless the app *gets* (by that I mean, you approve) root access, it ain't screwing anything up...
It's always a good practise to read over the permissions the app requires and ask yourself "Does it really need these?"
Btw... please uninstall Lookout...
hmm..stupid question, ya?
so i heard sth. what you obviously didnt hear, namely that there are definetly malicious apps which get root-access without me approving that.
and please get me in the enjoyment of your knowledge why i shouldnt use lookout

Pretty sure Superuser would pop-up with any request for root access, don't think there is a way around that...
I am against running an Anti-Virus/Malware client on my phone. IMO it's a stupid idea. I don't want to get in an argument, if you want to run Lookout or similar apps, I'm not going to stop you. It's like the 'why use a Task Manager/App-Killer' argument...

i dont think that he has asked a stupid question, asked people if they know of any dangerous apps isnt a bad question. you say su would pop up if it was going to be something bad, but you assume he is rooted
I feel a valid concern has been raised in the OP.
The apps available in the marketplace should be vetted but as we know its not.
after rooting the phone...it more or less becomes like the home PC.
personally i download apps only from big corporations...but i do understand most ppl like to try out new & tempting stuff on their phones...
since i access lots of personal accounts from my phone, i keep away from apps which comes from sources i havent heard before...
ignorance is bliss at times...

I don't think he asked a stupid question either. I have found a few malicious apps in the Market that download unwanted garbage to your phone. It surprises me that the Market does not screen out such apps before posting.
That said, I think he definitely needs a new girlfriend.

I can get round the superuser popup on many phones... So it's not enough to rely on that alone.
I suggest you do run a reliable AV program if you are at all concerned
Btw, few apps are likely to cause serious harm.
If something gets root, in theory it can cause a lot of damage, but normally they aim to quietly install other files without you knowing.
So if you want to start clean, remove and wipe your sd, clear all app data, and reflash the latest rom via odin or kies
If an app had root, it could have modified your system partition, so the reflash matters.
But in theory, someone could delete everything from your phone, or brick it (on some devices), though I am not aware of any such apps
yes there are very dangerous apps in Android Market like this one for example Albanian Keyboard wich is steals all u data like a key logger and no one in there are doing anything to ban or remove that crap

Shouldn't be that problematic especially as most security holes are patched in gingerbread. AFAIK the most viruses are only able to harm FroYo and lower OS'es.

[Q] Detach Titanium Backup from Market

You can fix this by buying the legal version and showing your support for the dev. It's not very expensive (a little over $6) and it's worth every penny. Definitely beats messing around with illegal and possibly sketchy cracked versions.

This does though. Although it is probably not the answer you were hoping for.
Basically, this being primarily a developers' forum, people will always look down on any attempt to use pirated/cracked apps and thus steal from the developer. So you can't really expect an answer that will promote and encourage piracy. Especially given that most Android apps are ridiculously cheap.
(To ACTUALLY answer the question - the only thing I can think of is marking all apps except for TB for auto-updating in Google Play.)

The only reason they may not is because it gives access to DRM information, correct?

Yea, I have never once considered buying a movie/music there. That is what Netflix/Spotify/Grooveshark is far
I would be 100% okay with a second unlock tool that will further unlock but disable access to DRM material on the market
If I were to hypothetically steal music/movies, It would be on my PC anyway where it is much easier. Hypothetically speaking

that would be okey if they denied us the access, but in trade for that they should have unlocked the entire bootloader, and not on the current state where we are screwed on both sides (and not the pleasant way)..

Just saw this thread funny i had to rant about the same thing last night. IMO if they're gonna fully void our warranty they HAVE to fully unlock it. Anything else is bull****. Not having nvflash and fastboot is a bigger issue than all others combined for me.

I can see a few reasons where it would make sense.
0.) Maybe they can't officially. I'm not sure where TF101's nvflash stuff comes from but I could see nVidia making it an issue not to just throw it around willy nilly. Who knows, they could be held liable or risk damaging their contracts with suppliers (like nVidia).
1.) If it could "Undo" the unlocker, well d'uh we're not gonna get it in any legit way.
2.) Maybe they're fed up with enough leaks and general issues that they don't care, after all two new models coming on line soon. And I do expect even if ASUS isn't replacing the Prime, stores will replace it with the new budget model and the Infinity.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
IF unlocking the boot loader was for rooting(which this could be the case IF fastboot was working), they are basically contradicting themselves. They're saying since the boot loader is unlocked we can now root. The way you root when you unlock the boot loader is by changing ro-secure= from 1 to 0 in default.prop in the boot.img(unsecure boot.img), then flash the unsecure boot.img with fastboot. This gives you a root terminal and adb remount to mount system r/w. This is the proper way to do it.
The guy in that email is full of ****, or has no clue what he's talking about. Most likely both
It makes absolutely NO sense for them to cripple fastboot. Nvflash, I can somewhat see in the eyes of some paper pushing pu$$y, but not fastboot.
maybe someone else should try to email... ;/

Recycle bin for android

I'm not fond of spamming xda, but I wanted to pass along an app I just tried. It's called 'Dumpster' and it functions like the recycle bin on your computer. So far it works good and thought you guys might find it useful. I probably should have posted this in the apps section.

Think it would work if u put an apk in there. It is just another file like windows would do. Good for saving older functioning apk when the update blows. IE netflix, for me anyways. Guess tb is useful for other things tho.
Its free and its got great reviews so Ill give it a try. Heres the link if anyone wants it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.baloota.dumpster&feature=nav_result
Thanks!
I've tested it a little since last night. It seems to work well so far. Definitely an app to keep around.
very interesting. id thought about this functionality before

But if u get this then you're gonna need a 3x file destroyer to remember to permanently delete those files. Just being a smartass bc windows needs it...

Anyone have the old T-Mobile

Does anyone here have the old T-Mobile account usage apk? Used to look like a tag in the notification bar and when you pulled down the bar it had a quick 3 slot summary of minutes used, texts, and data. I used to have it and a backup but inadvertently updated it to the new one and it's terrible. I'd be grateful if anyone has the old version

Yeah that would be great if you could. Yeah it was constantly asking but figured it was a small price to pay for how much garbage the new one is. Everything just lined up exactly wrong and I ended up updating on the phone along with overwriting my old backup.

You could use Titanium Backup to detach it from the Play Store to avoid constant update notifications.
Other than a very basic knowledge of the app as in backing stuff up, restoring and uninstalling apps you can't normally uninstall I am unaware of its capabilities, although I always read that it's an amazing must have app for a rooted device. Is detaching it from the play store a quick process easily explained for a reply or is it easily found doing a search for the prices? I guess I can answer that last possibility myself by having my ass do a search lol. I appreciate it though, that's a really beneficial tip.
