Well have you tried smsbackup and restore which saves your text messages into an XML and when you restore them it takes a couple of minutes.

seems to be working great, thanks guys
Seems like your question has been answered, but another suggestion is backup2gmail. It backs up into threaded view your SMS, MMS, and call logs to Gmail. All is real-time or according to schedule. Very lightweight and has yet to fail me.

Lately it's been taking about10-15 minutes of messing around trying to get the phone to send mms or just to wait for it to send. Sometimes starting two of the same picture helps but most of the time it's just a painfully annoying waiting game. Any ideas on how to fix this? Or anyone else having this issue?
Have you tried go sms pro, free in market? It can work as sms/ mms with stock app or in settings it can be a stand alone replacement. It has been my only sms/mms for a while now with no issues. I use it wether I am on a custom rom or a rooted stock one, I uninstall the stock one and use go sms, no problems.

I would agree, Go SMS Pro works so much better than the stock messaging app. I kept the stock version installed though, just disabled the notification. Works perfectly...

Is there a way to delete all sms messages? I use Handcent but the batch operation hangs up. I have also tried to downlod apps from the market but they do not work well. I have over 38K messages.
Using stock messages apps, on messages list or thread list, press menu button, select mark several then mark all, it could be take several minutes (cause you have thousand messages). Then delete it.

It has been 3 hours since I started deleting.. but still the process is on.
There should be a shorter method to do this.. like clearing the cache or something?

Yeah but you should lost everything, contacts, apps, and your settings.
Do full wipe.
Or maybe you can wipe your messaging apk from titanium backup.
Hope this will help, but never try it before.
Let me know if it works mate.

I decided to go the long way
I've always had an issue when moving from one rom to another. Essentially I backup my close to 10,000 sms messages, and when I install the new rom attempt to restore them via SMS Backup and Restore app. After doing so it results in the stock messaging app becoming unusable and crashes, which results in lost service and a slew of other problems. As of late I started freezing the stock messaging app with TB and use Go SMS instead, but now I can't receive MMS. Anybody have a sure fire solution? Thanks
No one wants to help? I'd really appreciate some input. Thanks

I have over 10k messages I use to restore (SMS Backup & Restore) without problems, gone through basically every rom you can think of.
And yes I also use GoSms, cause after 1k messages the stock SMS decides it wants to lag like crazy.
Does the stock messaging app crash even when you're not using it? (When you leave it unfrozen)

Yes it crashes regardless. I wouldn't mind if I could leave it alone and not worry about it, but whenever I boot the phone back up and its unfrozen it crashes my phone and it loses signal. Miui is the only rom this didn't happen to, which is why I'm still using it.

Still looking for a solution. The newer version of backup and restore lets you restore message from a certain date on, but not before that date. I feel like if I restored it in two stages with a reboot in between it would have any issues, but I have yet to find a simple method of doing so.

I was having this same issue after restoring my SMS/MMS messages. Then I used SMS Backup + to back them all up to my gmail account. After that I wiped them all out from my phone, and the stock app was still crashing, so I started using GO SMS again. A couple days later, the stock app just started working by itself all of a sudden when I got a notification for an SMS message in my status bar. I'm not sure what fixed it.

Did you try clearing the sms cache through manage apps?? sometimes doing this helps clear up glitches, I did this when I had the Phantom VM bug. not sure if it will work for this but its worth a shot.
Hope this helps
Thanks for all the input guys. I was able to restore my messages in 4 chunks. Worked great, just took forever. Thanks

Hey, I saw this has been a while, but I am trying to do the exact same thing as you. How were you able to restore it in chunks?
Hi there, i have been using sms Backup & Restore for a while now since i have been swapping a lot of roms and i wanted to keep my smses safe with this program. It has been working flawlessly until now. I flashed rgui miui b9 and when i tried to restore my smses i got my conversations split in two. Its not like i have my Messages in two times Its Just that they are split. I am uploading an ss to let you get what im saying.

i think thats relevant with miui. i used miui on my old galaxy sl. same issue happened to me. the solution is not certain but you can try changing your contact number , add the country code the numbers and restore your smses again. let me know its worked or not.
Sorry for my English.
You mean add the full Number on the selected Contact? The Number is 12345 and i added +30 on front of it. Still no luck any more ideas?

I just flashed my TBolt over to the new Liquid Smooth ICS ROM by AOSP. What an excellent UI, it's very smooth, and it seems to have overall decent battery life. Still playing with it.
While loading a couple of my apps back on, I noticed SMS Backup and VZ Messages no longer work. They both installed with no issues, but when I attempted to use either app, it tells me "Unfortunately, SMS Backup has stopped." I then have the option of reporting the bug or hitting ok. Any ideas?
Try fixing permissions. If that doesn't work try to download the app again from the market and the restore data from tibu.

Yup, tried all of that and still didn't have any luck.
That's weird because SMS backup works fine for me. I don't know about the other though because I don't use it.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I like the Verizon Messages application because it allows group text messaging, similar to the iMessages system on the iPhone. If you know of any alternatives, I'm all ears
I think that gosms will do that. I haven't used that in a while though.

Haven't had much luck with gosms pro. Although, I did notice a few bugs when sending out group messages on this ROM. I guess I'll just wait for these bugs to be sorted out as more updates come through. Thanks for your help though!
