[Q] Regarding Market DPI issues - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was looking at the LCD Density Modder app on Play Store and saw this user review:
"Sahil on March 21, 2012 (HTC Sensation 4G with version 1.5.1)
Fix for all Play Store not compatible issues...
It's simple.. no pro version needed. All u gotta do after changing the res is uninstalling the Play Store and launching Market. Then, Play Store WILL DOWNLOAD ACCORDING TO UR RESOLUTION. Do not follow this app's method as its bull****. Press the Helpful button for me. Thanks."
How do you launch Market after uninstalling the Play Store?! Is this actually a valid fix?

You can't. The Market and the Play store are one of the same, just different versions of the same app. You will need to reinstall in order to download from the Market/Play store. It sounds like that user doesn't know what they are actually talking about.

[Q] Buying an app previously downloaded from the black market

Hi,
I downloaded an app from the black market a while ago, now it's on sale in the real market and I want to buy it.
I uninstalled it but it shows up as "Purchased" on Google Play and when I try to download I get an error saying it failed because I haven't purchased it.
I tried breaking the market link (with Titanium pro), it didn't help
What can I do? Phone (Atrix 4G) is rootet of course..
Thanks
Try buying it from the website instead of the phone.

Clear the market data and cache. You might have to reboot. Also make sure that you are at normal dpi for your phone.
Absolution 3.7/Redemption ICS A2b1
Found only an option to clear search history. Also, what is DPI?
edit: ok, stupid question. found it, tried it and rebooting now
Cleared date, cache and search history
Rebooted
Got the "we're upgrading to Google Play" message again and had to accept the T&C again
But still, shows as purchased...
I did this with another app in the past and didn't have this problem. After I uninstalled what I got from the black market I could immanently purchase it on the Android Market. Maybe it's because of the upgrade to Google Play?
Same here:
When XDA posted the article Over 100 Paid Apps For Free On GetJar, I went ahead and downloaded few apps from there. Now I want to really buy a couple of the apps that I like and I can't.
I tried:
- install the apk from getjar, unlink from market (with TB), uninstall apk
- install the apk from getjar, link to market (TB), uninstall from device
- clean data/cache for the app and the market
- uninstall
- wait.
- Report to market that I did not buy it.
and still: after 2 days with the app uninstalled, the Google Play Market still says "Purchased".
What can I do?
I don't know even it insists on these 2 apps of many that I have, the others doesn't show as installed or purchased even thought they are on my device at the moment :|
Update:
The solution is to install an older version of the marker, in which the app appears as Not purchased, and can be purchased without problems, here is the working version of the market (com.android.vending-2.3.6.apk):

This WORKED!
Just for the information:
Google Market 3.5.16 fixes this issue definitely: now it will not show side loaded apps as Purchased in any case, like this apps installed via Amazon, GetJar, APK, Black market are treated as just "Installed" in the Play Market. You can uninstall them from the market, and when you choose "Update" from the Play Market you'll be shown the "Purchase" dialog to buy the app.
Great to see Google care about Side loaded apps...

Android Market and Build.prop concerns

Sup guys, you can probably tell I'm new here and I have some issues.
Sometime this morning I decided to try and install Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Ep. II on my Samsung Galaxy Indulge R910. I came to find out that it is only compatible with 2.3 and higher, but my Indulge is running 2.2 and there are no GB ROMs for it yet. I scoured the web and found a "solution" to it. If I go into build.prop and change the ro.build.version.sdk=8 to ether sdk=9 or 10, the app not only installs, but runs, too. It worked.
NOW here's my problem: My market doesn't work when sdk=9 or 10, keeps FC-ing unless I change it back, but then the Sonic app disappears and I need the market to download the SD Data for the game. Is there a way to get the market to run without the force close? Do I need a "newer" market version? Or are there more settings I need to try? I tried this one idea, by swapping vendor.apk with another, but same results happen! ANY help on the situation would be appreciated!
You need to clear Google Play Store and Google Framework Services data in: settings>applications>manage applications>(find both and select the "clear data" button).
You should also try using Chainfire 3D, which you can find on Google Play Store. You may not have not edit the build.prop and you can download and play Tera-based games as well through Tegra Zone (also found on Google Play).
There's also an option in Chainfire 3D to "forget market settings" to allow for this...

Thanks for the effort, but no avail

I tried the methods above, but they didn't help my problem. The Chainfire 3D seems cool for performance in 3D apps, but it has nothing to do with allowing GB apps to run on FROYO.
It has to do with the build.prop file, as I've said before. I changed the SDK version to allow or Sonic 4 ep 2 to come up, but my market continues to crash.
ro.build.version.sdk=8 (default) Market works fine, cannot use GB apps and GB apps that somehow were installed by changing SDK version now disappear from installed apps lists and menus.
ro.build.version.sdk=9 or 10 Market fails to operate correctly, keeps Force Closing, but GB apps install naturally, run naturally and behave just fine.
It's like 2 sides of a coin that can't be spent...
Bump
Seriously does anyone know how this could be done? I know there's a way, but I just don't know how and Google is coming up dry... Help please!

Try installing Google play apk
Tried couple of Play Store APK versions.
every version is crashing.
i've bought the same tablet and play store keeps crashing every time i install !!
can we get any support ?!
I'm gonna go ahead and bump this vs making a new thread. I'm still fairly new to mobile devices, but my intermediate knowledge of computers kinda helps me out. Still a long shot, considering this isn't a well known tablet.
Android 4.0.4
From the factory it comes with HCL's own craptastic market app (Almost expect that from a cheap India brand knock off of the iPad), which has a horrible layout, always freezes up, and doesn't have any useful/common apps. While the tablet itself has with most of the default google stuff removed from it. Including Google Play Services.
I installed both the Play Store, and the Play services manually with no errors. But when it comes to running the store, it'll run fine for about a second, then a system message will come up saying "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped." BUT I can see the app giving me the terms of service prompt in the background, AFTER that error message pops up. After acknowledging the error, it force closes the store, so I'm presuming HCL hardcoded something in to block google's app store.
I've taken the well known solution to this of installing 1Mobile Market, but I just don't trust it (So many cloned apps...) and I can't get to my purchased apps.
Any ideas? I have a very rough idea of what I'm doing when it comes to roms, I've successfully installed a custom one to an old Samsung Infuse before.

App keeps updating from Google Play

I have this app which I originally downloaded from the play store but it quit working with an update so I downloaded the earlier version from APK mirror, I didn't think it would update since it wasn't registered to the play store but no matter what I do it decides it wants to update from the play store anyway.
Things I have tried
1 not allowing auto update (for the app) in google play
2 deleting app from my google account
3 detaching from market using titanium backup
I've run out of things to try so any help would be appreciated.

maybe u can enable do not auto update from setting or the app has a auto-update feature itself.

It's simple. Just re-sign the apk. It will no longer see it in the market for updates

I have a few apps that for one reason or another I refuse to update (most are due to MD) and it's annoying to have them in my update list.

Pre-Installed apps not showing in Google Play (e.g. after reset)

With no solution in sight on to how Google chose to have Play Store behave in this regard, I am sharing my good experiences with the Play Store alternative Aptoide.
After using it for updating after a reset, all updated apps also show up again in Play Store/ My apps and games.
These steps are highly recommended for the smoothest process. Decide yourself which check marks you deactivate again after the initial update batch:
-------------------------
1. SETTINGS:
- APTOIDE UPDATES: Update Aptoide ✔
- SCHEDULED DOWNLOADS: Automatic Install ✔
-------------------------
2. UPDATES:
- UPDATE ALL
Before Aptoide I also tested AppBrain Market App, but its batch update never worked for me. It can however be used to find all apps which are outdated and update them 1 x 1, also re-registering them in Play Store.
Maybe this helps someone.
Needless to say, if someone has found a direct solution of refreshing the Google Play Store index to re-register (pre) installed apps and games, you are invited to share it here.
Been going nuts over this issue. Find it strange that this is the only way to fix it. Surely it can't be that complicated!
