Contacts stoppeed working and keyboard selection - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using android 4.0.3 on my S2 and have 2 annoying problems.
1. When I go to contacts and search for mar…. my contacts stops working. After 10 seconds it pops up “contacts stops working” press ok, and after that it starts working again. For now only these 3 letters cause my contacts to stop working. Once in a while it also causes my twlauncher to crash after the message.
2. While typing something it constantly shows me I have to select my keyboard. Samsung standard or Google talk. Seems I cannot make a standard choice and that is stops asking me…
Any suggestion welcome!

If it's stock, try wiping, if custom try again or try something else

Google Voice sometimes locks up while sending message

Google Voice sometimes freezes when I send an SMS. It will show "sending...", with the down arrow showing on the right side. Then, the app will cease to function.
The message will have actually sent, but Google voice hangs as described. Pressing the back button does nothing, and there is a long pause between hitting the home button and it returning to the home screen.
Going back into the program leaves it right where it left off, with the sending message and the arrow. I cannot return to my inbox or any other label.
The only way to fix this is to close the Google Voice App via task manager and reopen it. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
I have tried reinstalling it form the Marketplace and rebooting my phone. Neither resolved the issue.
try to uninstall and re-intall... clean all the cash and data
I have the same problem and I have tried the uninstall, clean the cache, reinstall, etc.
It's just a problem app on the Note/AT&T

i've had this happen with every rom i've had on my note, even stock.. i think its a problem on google's end becuase my sensation does it too (not nearly as often) . time will tell
I've been having that same issue. Quite annoying since I'm relying on GV for texting to avoid the $20/mo AT&T charge. Even the correctly sent messages seem to lag. The biggest issues seem to be "new conversations" - once I get a few messages back and forth with the same person I don't have any issues or lag, but the first few cause problems it seems.

handcent crash, and keyboard but no typing.

Hey guys.
This hasn't happen just only on the SIII, it's happened on SII and my Note.
Handcent randomly crashes, and sometimes I will go to type a message, and the keyboard will show up but when I press a key, nothing shows in the typing box thing, really weird and annoying cause I need to reboot it to fix it.
Anyone know why this happens to me on every phone I've had, stock and custom ROM's?

Unable to input using keyboard.

I've recently rooted my phone (retaining the stock rom and kernel). Last night, it started to "not work", meaning, whenever I input a key using the keyboard, it doesn't show. I can dial using the "Phone" though, so it's just the keyboard and not some problem in the touch screen.
Also, I noticed that whenever I restart my phone, I can still type in using the keyboard. However, after leaving it for a few minutes, the problem starts to kick in again.
Is there a way to check which app is responsible for this so I can uninstall it?
Are there known apps that does this?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

[Q] Slow Galaxy s3 Performance

Tried searching around for this but hopefully someone can help.
I've got an S3 running stock 4.0.4 firmware. I'm having 2 very frustrating issues with this phone:
1) At first I thought this was a Swiftkey issue but happens with stock keyboard. when i go into the messaging app occasionally, when pressing keys on the keyboard - nothing appears. I have to quit messaging app and go back in.
2) another very annoying issue is when in the phone book and pressing the green phone button to dial someone, sometimes it will take 10 seconds for the phone to make a call. If i happen to press it more than once during that 10 seconds, it will make the call, and say for example the other person has picked it up, the dialler will then place another call - to the same person! The other person tends to say - "why are you putting me on hold and calling me again!?"
Very annoying and not sure what to do. Really do not want to do a restore.

The least invasive solution will be to clear the cache for the all the apps affected and reboot.
Or just wipe cache from recovery and see where it goes.

Unfortunatlly mate, i think ur having problem with this stock rom did you try to factory reset your device to eliminate those bugs. or flash another Rom because this is definitly a Rom problem.

I am having the exact same issue with my S3. Sometimes calls take up to two minutes before they register. The phone remains completely responsive the whole time, and I can try to dial a bunch of different numbers (doesn't matter if I dial a number directly or if I quick dial a favorite or whatever). Suddenly, two minutes later it appears to register that, "Oh, I'm a phone!" and then dials all of the numbers all at once. Two minutes is a very long time to wait for the damn thing to dial. Especially when some iPhone user is sitting next to me going, "Seriously? You put up with that?" It is embarrassing.
I am also on the stock android 4.0.4 (verizon) and I would really really rather not have to wipe it clean and re-install.
The rest of the phone is fast (I am using go launcher) with the exception of the "Negative Colors" widget and the "Assistive light" widget. Both of those act just like the dialer. I hit the widgets and sometimes nothing happens for a minute. Again, the phone is completely responsive the whole time and I can hit these buttons over and over. Suddenly it all registers and then my screen flashes between normal and negative about a hundred times (once for each time I hit the button in frustration), and the led flash strobes on and off (again, once for each time I tried to get it to work).
This does not happen every single time though. Sometimes it behaves properly. Other times, it is super slow, but once it reacts, then I can make calls quickly until I let it sit untouched for a while. Then it gets all slow again.
I thought I'd try flushing the cache, but I cannot seem to find what cache I should flush. I can't find a dialer app, and the only other app that looks appropriate is the Dialer Storage app, but it does not have a cache I can flush.
Can anyone point me to a diagnostic tool that I can use to determine just what the phone is doing at this time? I have tried emailing myself the logs using log viewer, but they are huge and I can't seem to find anything there that I can sink my teeth into. Any help would be appreciated. My iPhone owning friends are becoming insufferable.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't know what a ril was and did a little research. Fascinating.
As far as I can tell, and please bear with me since I am a complete noob here (though I am resonably facile with Linux), since I am running the original ROM, I don't have any influence over the RIL. Is that correct? I downloaded getril, but it says that my device (Verizon GS3) is not supported.
What is the text that would show up in a log if I made a call? I'm going to try and search the logs again, maybe that will tell me something,

[Q] Messaging app issues

So for the past few weeks my messaging app keeps crashing, no my app isn't overflowed with texts because i clear my texts every 5-6 hours, but there are random times when i receive a text message and as soon as i open it and respond the text message history goes blank and when i press the back button it shows that i have no messages at all. Then when i press back again my message app doesn't exit and it crashes. and when i try to go back into my message app there are no messages and i still get the same problem of not being able to exit the app. The only way to fix it is to restart the phone, however the issue comes back randomly after a few days.
Yes I have tried wiping everything, and also tried changing roms, but no luck.
Anyone know a solution to this problem?
Ask in the correct section next time.
Are you saying that you did a factory reset and flashed a completely stock ROM via Odin and you still have the issue?
Try another messaging app .

Had the issue when I first got my phone. Solved it by doing a full wipe (including wiping the internal storage)

I have tried Go messenger and it would freeze and die just like the stock one.
