Put ICS on my arc and I really love the new gallery app, its fast and slick much better than the stock gingerbread one. Is it possible to get a port of this on the Xperia S?
I think it can't port to Gingerbread - -? , I actually prefer the Quickpic is very better than ICS gallery
Wait to ics come to our phone. Should come last in 6 month.

I find quickpic also quite slow on the Xperia S. Like I want to flick through the photos quickly buy with it is shows 'loading' which annoys me. and the stock gallery app is no faster then it was on my arc, quite a joke actually!
Try this app if it is comaptible with your device.

I have several thousand pics scattered through my phone, quickpic is the only viewer that doesn't lag. It really is fast for me and the wife.

It doesn't lag, I just can't flick through them quickly without them having to load first maybe its to do with the 12mp image size?!
It's available on the market

Thanks! Having a play with that now and it looks good! Plus that's another step closer to ICS too... not yet brave enough to go about rooting!
Why A Bug?
I Installed ICS Gallery, Fine
But Why All The Videos In Other Folder (e.g SD card>Videos>English MVs) Ware Not Loading Inside It?
A BUG?

You don't get that with quickpic after the first run.

Quickpic also very slow on my Xperia S
When I run quickpic on my Xperia S, it takes ages to show folders with pictures. Really, it takes 12 seconds until folders start to appear. It happens every time I launch quickpic.
After this delayed start, moving between pictures is instant, but first start is real pain.
Running Gingerbread.
I like the album on ics, but it doesn't remember the way I set it up to view things. I don't like it showing 5 previews per line, too small.
Sent from my XperiaS via transwarp conduit.
@bomeeck: this is not normal, I think you have to uninstall and install again quickpic, on my Xperia S it is 2 sec to load the different folders (about 20) and it is very fast to navigate between pictures (more than 1300). Once new install done, let quick pic tae the necessary time to create the index...

Can someone put here a file of gallery 3d like nexus one or SGS? And a little tutorial how to replace standart gallery in cm7.1.
I think CM6 and older builds of DevNull included it includes it by default, but, I should warn you, Gallery 3D lags like hell, and, even opening a folder is a painful experience.
maybe you know some nice gallery? sorry for my bad english!
QuickPic is great:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&hl=en
and how replace it with standart gallery?
You can use Root Uninstaller / Titanium Backup to remove the Standard Gallery, but, I personally haven't done so, because, QuickPic seems to replaces the standard Gallery's functionality by default. (The Gallery button in the Camera Interface goes directly to the Quickpic Gallery)
thanks a lot!
I had installed MUI camera and galley, didn't like that at all.. MUI is missing zoom feature. Just installed Quickpic gallery its really nice app
Quickpic rocks \m/
Well I had tried it ,I found it on Blapk, but its lags gives no fun and use for the gallery on wildfire, its because of the weak GPU.

Actually I agree about the QikPic gallery, its nice and smooth it has got a nice UI.
Also when it will be fixed for wildfire the ICS gallery may be a pretty good alternative.
Can anyone recommend a good gallery app, paid or free. I installed gingerbread and although I like the new gallery it's just so slow. It never loads all the thumbnails so I can't tell what each picture is without pressing it.
I appreciate any suggestions.

I use QuickPic -- its free on the market. Great gallery app, fast, smooth, loads up images in NO time.
I'm using Gallery+ right now cuz I hate 2.3.4's Gallery, gotta try that QuickPic one.
I use Quickpic. Love it.

+1 for QuickPic
will have to check it out; i HATE that the new gallery is all timecode based; i have all my pics (i am a published pro photographer and cameraman) organized meticulously and the new gallery wont let me just see everything in the old froyo file system. plus it is (WAY) slower and will not properly load thumbnails so 95% of my shots (which i keep in full res on the external SD card) show up without a thumbnail or title.
totally unacceptable to me. also i dont do social networking (AT ALL, i call/tango/skype if needed and talk or text but i prefer REAL human interaction) so tagging etc is useless for me.
+982343 for QuickPic
Super fast, and also renders images you use for WALLPAPER without any quality loss; if you set a wallpaper using the stock gallery vs quickpic you will see a stark difference.

yep, i noticed this straight away, with the wallpapers, and luckily quickpic does them perfectly, best gallery ive used.
Is the crap quality wallpaper thing a problem with the atrix gallery app or is it the same on other phones?
You guys are all correct, Quickpic is great. I need to start recommending it to people. Thanks again.

Another vote for Quickpic here... Flashed 2.3.4 a few days ago and I have been more than disappointed with the new stock gallery app. Quickpic is definitely the answer. It organizes everything for you.
Sent via Motorola Olympus
Quickpic has my vote! So much easier to use!
Agreed quick pic is great but I also use b and b http://gallery.breadandbuttertool.com/ which has better folder options in certain circumstances imo. Those 2 though are all I need really!
quickpic!!
Quickpic is about the best.
But one feature that they ALL lack is an ability (option) not to recursively show subfolders.
ie, I have a folder called pets, and inside two more called cat, and dog. From the main gallery I only want to see pets and any images in pets. If I want to dig into cat or dog, I want to see those as subfolders. Just like folders in Windows.
If you like the idea of this, send an email to the author of quickpic. I requested this and he likes the idea. He said maybe if more people request it.
Okay, my personal mission aside.
Has anyone frozen (TiBu) the stock gallery app? I don't like it, and I'm tired of it littering my /sd with cache folders all over the place.
Yet another vote for quickpic.
Hey guys. I did a factory restore on my phone for reasons unrelated to the gallery, but when it was done, the factory gallery now works flawlessly. It loads up almost instantly and the thumbnails are perfect. I still think I like quickpic better, but I thought I would let you guys know what happened.

I have tried a few gallery apps because i totally hate the stock gallery app as well. I love how smooth QuickPic is. They recently released a latest version of this app, making pinch to zoom look like eye candy.
Have a look at this youtube link and see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQdOwRCh__g
*Note: This is the old version of QuickPic though....the latest version is WAY smoother.
Hi, On the default homepage, we have 4 Rows (+ 1 for the dock) and 4 Columns.
When we use another launcher, like ADWLauncher, we can choose 5 Rows (+ 1 for the dock). And with our big and precise screen, it's fine.
The only problem (but big for me) is that we loose the benefit of some Sony widgets, like Music, Photos, Tools,...
So is there a way to change the number of Rows in the "XPERIA" launcher?
If not, do you think it will be possible in the future (it's my 1st Sony phone and I don't know what have been done with other Sony phones in the past).
I love the launcher but five rows would be awesome. Without root we're pretty much stuck unless you use another launcher, but I dont like doing this with another launcher still chewing up resources in the background.

If you use a different launcher and set it to be the default, the original one won't take up resources. Once you reboot it won't even be loaded unless you manually run it.

Hi Friends...!
I'm searching for a widget and a mod for ICS on XMP
First, I guess many of you realized that "Photo and videos widget" now in ICS for XMP is very "small", instead a bigger, nicer version for GB. Has anyone tried to port it to ICS? Just in case you don't know what I mean, take a look at this http://communities-origin.sonyericsson.com/message/190104
Second request, for ICS too, is that "effect" of old CRT TVs when you turn them off. Is it possible to add?
Thanks to all!

So... nobody knows about it?
I think u can resize widgets on ics.isnt it?

I mean, that Widget was "large" on GB. Now, with ICS update, it became very small, so you can't watch them clearly.
Also, there's a mod when you turn off the screen, it looks like a old TV turning off... that mod was within Notification Widgets, and it looks nice and I'd like to have it.

Hi everyone.
The big photos and videos widget is one of my favorite widget too. And after i updated to ICS for my xperia active, it disappeared. Actually, the new android 4.04 only has the small one.
One pal share me the apk file, and i attached it in this reply. BUT you may need to do a little trick.
Firstly, install the widget. When you add it on Home Screen, there are two choices "large or small", choose Large one of course. After that your device will get bug when access page contain that widget , but don't worry about that.
Secondly, use the original uninstall or any 3rd apps, uninstall that widget.
Finally, back to the home screen, the photos and videos fill your screen.
Work for me, st17i ICS 4.1.b.0.431.
It works, thanks
This means if anyhow we can resize the widget, our work will be done xD
No one for CRT?

I personally have always liked Quickpic vs pure android gallery and Xperia gallery when i had my Arc S. but since i've had the 4.1.2 Gallery on my S3, ive loved the different view options, the speed has been great. I cant see myself having a need to use Quickpic again.
Anyone sitll using Quickpic? if so, why?
Because it will not let me hide albums like quickpic. Change to view only on device but does not save that setting

And Quickpic works extremely fast with quality previews, unlike the blurry images on the the stock SGS3 gallery!

Agreed with the option not saving but i definitely dislike my facebook / picasa pics in my gallery, so i remove them from syncing.
I like the logical sorting option.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Exclude albums from being scanned
Hide albums
Fast even with high quality images
Loads much quicker
The thing that really put me off the stock gallery though was how long it took to generate an image after I took a photo. I'd snap an image, click on the preview button and would normally be greeted by a loading screen that would take roughly 2 seconds. If I use another camera app then hit the preview button and set it to open with QuickPic, the image is there IMMEDIATELY. It's not the fact that 2 seconds is a long time to wait, its the fact that other apps can do it quicker. I'm on CM10.1 and have no need for QuickPic. Gallery is smooth and images are accessible immediately, no loading times or black screens
