[Request] Change locked version of rom to unlocked(should be fairly easy) - Motorola Photon 4G

Seen here is two downloads for electrify users, these are for 2.3.4/.5 users with unlocked bootloaders, the problem is, I have a locked bootloader and as many of you may know, once you get 2.3.5 there is no going back.
Question/request: Can anyone please take the time to either A.) Explain how to convert the files to be compatible with a locked bootloader or B.) Just do it yourself for me if you find that easier than explaining<3
The one I would like to convert is TESTELECTRIFYROCKO3.5test(1)
This would help a lot of us out i'm sure....
Thanks!
-Chris

Still in need of help...

remove the kernel from it and alter the updater-script to reflect it
if he has it set to ext4 then make sure to swap that as well to ext3

I think I can edit the updater script...how do I go about fully removing the kernel..?

[Q] Updating Samsung Vibrant

I have a Unlocked Samsung Vibrant from T Mobile. I unlocked it after rooting superuser, busybox and using SGSUnlock.. My phone currently have
Firmware - 2.2
Baseband - T959UVKA6
Kernel - 2.6.32.9
Build No - FROYO.UVKA6
My question which is the best OS for my phone.?
Can the phone be upgraded to that OS without Locking?
And if Locked how to Unlock it again?
THANKS IN ADVANCE..
If by unlocked, you mean rooted, by all means keep it rooted. As for os and roms, i find that it's best to test them out and see what you like. I ran bionic for a while and recently switched to MIUI which is an amazing rom. Follow noob in 3D guide on how to install miui and give it a shot.
If by unlocked, you mean carrier unlocked, then no it will not relock when you flash another ROM, it will stay unlocked.
Depends on your taste. I've ran bionix, trigger, and many other roms. Miui, surpasses them all in customizabilty. If you want a truly custom experience use my guide (link in signature and stickied in this section) that will take you step by step through flashing the rom. However, expect slight more battery drain compared to Froyo (2.2). That's a flaw of gingerbread (2.3) based roms.

I am particularly interest in this part. I have read the reviews on the market and half of them say it "bricked" their phones and other say it worked. Please elaborate if you will on this. EFS/IMEI is something not to be messed with, so that is one thing I am leary about.
I want to unlock mine, however my carrier is notoriously stubborn when it comes to that. So much so they actually tell customers to go to the corner places and have them do it.
So this app, "sgs_unlock", will remove the carrier lock if you have one?
(Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread Woodrube. I just was curious because I had never heard of being able to do this before.)

Yup it worked like a charm for me, so I could, insert a different Sim card into my T959, and start running, Simple Mobile!!
Used to run T-Mobile, but now fully open to any GSM type of provider!!
Thread hijack, but other than inserting another SIM how do you know you are unlocked? I just used Galaxy Unlock in the market, mainly bc it had far fewer negative reviews and made backup of efs folder. Is there somewhere to look to see if it is truly unlocked? Some file created?

So if I'm reading this right this is a deodexed stock Rom of the new update without the new locked down bootloader. Your post says must be unlocked but is there any reason that this can't be flashed with bootstrap without unlocking?
What changes are we seeing with this (2.3.5 doesn't count)? Any fixes for things like wifi or lapdock500 support?
I gave this a try but I didn't have any service. No 3G and I couldn't make any calls or text so I just restored my backup. Not sure if I need to do something else though.

Looks like you need to change libmoto_ril.so from 198_7 or flash new radio. But BEWARE flashing new radio switches the fuse!!!
That means, you won't be able to run locked 198_7 and you must stay unlocked.

Rom Toolbox Pro (Im an idiot)

Hello XDA members!
I am a long time lurker of these forums... well since day 1 of the photon release.
Anywho, I have a photon on 2.3.5 :crying: like that isnt bad enough... Well I rooted my photon and installed Rom Toolbox Pro on my Photon and I was messing around with the app and saw you can change icons and stuff like that. I was messing around with it and then I was going to return back to stock theme and icons... well. I guess I forgot to do a back-up of the original theme.
So now my photon looks like a cheap knockoff because all the colors and everything dont blend well with the phone. So....
I was hoping anyone knows how to get it back to the stock theme and icons. Since there isnt any 2.3.5 SBF that I am aware of I cant just flash it back to stock...
Or if anyone has a back-up of their stock theme and would like to share, if possible.
Thanks in advance!
But if no one can help I dont really want to wait until ICS or somone godly dev unlocks this bootloader.
But theres not much that I can do.
Mistakes happen, but no worries. Your mistake is fixable.
I believe if you look in the Development Section, there is a {Locked} version of 2.3.5 that is flash able thru Bootstrap Recovery (the only Recovery option available for Locked users). It will bring you back to stock and revert anything you changed in ROM Toolbox Pro.
I may be able to make a Bootstrap flash able framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk that will also possibly fix your issue without having to flash the whole /system folder. No promises tho.
But definitely look in the Development Section. Peetr_ and and another Dev have made some very useful stuff for locked users.

[Q] Atrix 4G MB860 SKT Version

Hi All,
First of all I would like to thank everyone at XDA who has invested their lives to make our phones look and work better day by day...
I am very confused right now and have been searching the whole internet for three weeks now but didn't got any solution as yet.
I have got a Motorola Atrix 4G from Korea that has the following information:
Model : MB860
S/W Version : 4.5.2A- SKT-167
Android Version : 2.3.5
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9- 00004-gfbc 746e
My problem is that the stock rom currently installed is flooded with Korean language. I want to put a pure english stock rom into my Atrix that has all the stock options enabled. Which rom is suitable for this purpose and also as Korean SKT version doesn't have SBF files over the internet, therefore how can I restore to stock if things went into the wrong direction. BTW I have already rooted my phone.
While searching, found some files at "main.develoid.com:81/%40%20MOTOROLA/Atrix/" that I am not sure helpful for any thing or not.
Thanks in advance for all your help and support.
Ignore this and search for "how to know if my atrix is bell or ATT", then flash the proper sbf

Thanks for ur reply but I am already aware of this fact that my Atrix is not from any of these two i.e. ATT or Bell. My phone is from Korea and is from SK Telecom South Korea. It is a MB860 with SKT software version.
The SKT is the version of the rom. There are only 2 atrix models: ATT and Bell. It doesnt matter where are you from, my Atrix is Bell and we dont even have it in Brazil...

I have googled but haven't been able to find anything useful regarding ATT and Bell. Have found a new info as the FCC ID for ATT and Korean Atrix are different
ATT Atrix 4G FCC ID: IHDP56LS1
My Korean Atrix 4G FCC ID: IHDP56LS2
I am not sure as if this has something to do but I considered it worth sharing...

Please remember that questions go in the Q&A section.
Contrary to what was posted earlier, there are three Atrix models (MB860, MB861, and ME860). But you seem to know which one you have already. Also, never flash an SBF unless you have no other choice.
Did you try going to Settings, Language & keyboard, Select locale and see if you can choose English? Might not work because I think that is the Korean GB235 software.
Is the device rooted with an unlocked bootloader? If so, you should be able to flash a AT&T stock fruit cake.

Thanks for your reply. My apologies for posting into the wrong section.
Right now my phone is rooted but not unlocked yet. I wanted to be safe before I can actually modify it. Least I could have a restore point to return. Thats why asking the experts for an advice.
My only issue is not the language but most of english characters are shown wrong whenever I receive a SMS. Can only have caller ID for SMS (contact numbers with +) or for the call (removing the + sign from all contact numbers). Can only send SMS with 80 characters otherwise it is converted into a MMS.
Instead of solving all these issues one by one, I believe installing a stock english rom would solve my problem. The only problem is that I am not sure which ROM can I use and what can I do if I end up into a soft brick phone.
Thanks again for taking the time to look into my problem.

Text information will probably never display properly with the Korean OS. Probably a combination of language and carrier differences.
Flashing an English ROM will solve your problems. Be sure to follow instructions for unlocking the bootloader for the Korean Atrix in the dev section. You can install any custom ROM. You can also install a stock ROM, but may have to make changes to locale and APN settings - no biggie.

Just to be clear, when I say stock ROM I mean a fruit cake. Some associate stock with sbf. As I said before, never flash an sbf (OK, only once when unlocking your bootloader). I recommend flashing this fruit cake to get you started. If you are not on AT&T, look here for changing your APN. But the very next step you take will be to unlock your bootloader. Worry about the rest later.
Thx for everything
I will unlock the bootloader tomorrow.
For the ROM, are u advising me to flash stock ATT fruitcake. Would ATT software be compatible with my phone's hardware?
Plz accept my apologies for bring unnecessarily demanding but I am very cautioned about flashing my Atrix mainly as it lacks support from Motorola.

Yes, AT&T fruit cakes will be compatible You can flash any fruit cake you want, you will just need to makes the changes I posted earlier.
The one thing I forgot to mention before: depending on your country and carrier, you may need to flash a different radio. Those are available at the Atrix Reboot Project.
Once your bootloader is unlocked you can flash or restore anything want. Your phone will be free!

Backup strategy is correct. The fruit cake won't work as is. Upload workdir or the zip to the Atrix Reboot Project and I'll fix it and put it back.
Edit: You can also post a dropbox link. Whatever works.

[Q] Is there a way to get arabic with locked bootloader?

Hello to you all,
I am a new to all android concepts like rooting, bootloader, custom rom....etc.
I read a lot of info to understand a lot about the bootloader and custom roms and rooting but I am still confused. I know that the bootloader is locked for updated Photons that has 2.3.5 version. And I also read that you need an unlocked bootloader to root but I also found a lot of tuts showing rooting methods without mentioning bootloaders at all. So I gathered some questions I have and I was hopeing you can help me get answers.
1- In case I have a locked bootloader, can I root my device?
2- Is there a way to install roms with locked bootloaders. if yes, how (Hope you point me to a thread or tutorial).
3-If I want to have Arabic in my phone, is there a way with locked boodloader or do the device need to be unlocked?
4- I read that there's some apps like bootstrap and safestrap and they have something to do with locked bootloaders. What are they? And I don't mean their definition, I mean can I use them to install roms if I have a locked bootloader? If not then what are they used for?
Note: All my questions are based on my desire to have Arabic on my device "Not a keyboard app please". I also don't care if I lose the 4G.
I know my questions are many and might take a lot of time to answer. I'm just frustrated that I won't have ICS on my device and after a chat with motofail customer service, my anger has grown bigger and bigger. Thank you for your help in advance.

First question yes you can root with locked bootloader

Thanks for the response. We'll I understood the first and second answers. However, I am confused a little bit about the third answer. I mean in my case what's the point of installing roms with bootstrap if I can't get Arabic. If you don't mind, I want to know if there's a way to get Arabic on my Phone. I want the letters to show normally, not separately if you know what I mean. I really don't care if the whole system is Arabic or not. I just want to write Arabic and read Arabic SMS normally when I receive them. Is there a way?? if yes what is it? Please help me as I am so afraid I do something wrong and brick my phone.
Thanks a million for everything.
Look i cant confirm u any thing but u can do a safe try
First install bootstrap as i told u
Second do a nandroid backup with it
third download and flash petre hybrid for locked make sure its for locked
And see if it doesnt work u can use ur backup to return back
For me i installed hybrid but for unlocked and arabic just worked fine all sms and web

His first language isn't English I believe so I'll chime in and help yah out.
1. Root and install Bootstrap Recovery
2. Make a backup of your existing installation in Bootstrap Recovery in case something goes wrong.
3. Install Peetr_s Hybrid Rom through Bootstrap recovery located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587770. This is a multi-language ROM and it has some options in the language screen that look like arabic, but I don't speak it so I can't confirm for sure.
4. If anything goes wrong or you don't like the Hybrid ROM, use Bootstrap Recovery to restore the backup you made earlier.
I can't confirm whether or not your text and mms keyboard will be in arabic when you change language setting or not as I am using SwiftKey 3 for my keyboard. Hope this helps!
Here's a screenshot of the languages that look similar to arabic. You can see if this is what you're looking for.
