[Q] USA 5.0. Which version of Odin? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I am really trying to like this Player 5, but it just seems super buggy. It lags, badly in everything I want to do on it so enable to determine if I am going to keep it I would like to root and try a different rom.
With my SGSII and my Note I use Odin ver1.85. Can I use that version on the USA Player 5?
I would like to slightly OC so can someone suggest an Odin flashable kernel that OCs and delivers CWM?
Thanks in advance.

Odin3 v1.3 is what you're looking for.

Any thoughts on a kernel? Can I root without wiping? I dont mind wiping after making a nandroid and a tibu.

This is the kernel I use, Entropy's Daily Driver for USA 5.0:

And this is the ROM, Eryigit-GB-2.3.6 G70ZCKPA Galaxy Player 5.0 For USA:

I hope it helps.

That is the rom I wanted to try as well. Much thanks for the link to the kernel!

So i guess I would flash the oldest tar file with Odin and then reboot into recovery and get updated with the latest zip? Entropy's kernel that is.

I flashed Entropy's kernel that is listed as a tar file first. Then rebooted into recovery and flashed the latest zip kernel posted in his thread which brought me up to speed.
I then tried to install SuperUser from Google market and it did not deliver root. I had to download the zip from this androidsu.com link http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and then flash it through CWM in recovery.
It is now rooted and my backups have been made.
Now I need to find that thread that lets you swap internal sdcard space with an external sdcard. If it runs fast enough I will have a 64gb Player 5

[Q] CM10 Stock Kernel?

Hey can anyone provide me the link with the stock cm 10 kernel, i was on cm10 but then i flashed a different kernel n i wanna go back to the cm10 stock kernel. how can i do this? does anyone have the link to it? thanks
Flash CM10 again without wiping; the kernel will overwrite your existing kernel. Once you've done that, get kTool from Google Play (and buy Hellcat a beer) & dump the CM10 kernel to your internal SD card.
That way, in the future, if you try out other kernels & want to go back to to the CM10 kernel you'll be able to flash just the kernel (with Mobile Odin or Odin) without having to flash the whole rom (whenever you flash a new CM10 build, do this step immediately afterwards so you have a copy of the latest kernel).
Or....you could ask in the CM10 discussion thread, tho you'd be able to do the above 50 times in the time you'd wait to get an answer/a link to just the kernel
Nice, didn't realise there was such app that can do that. Thanks
Of and do you think it will work with stock Ics kernel? I don't see why not tbh

Yep. You can dump any kernel with kTool & then flash the kernel with Odin/Mobile Odin.

CWM Wont Flash Kernel!

Hi there, i just installed the new neatrom full 4.1 that came out on the 23 of this month i wanted to update to another kernel witch is the SiyahKernel v6.0b4 i have no idea if that one is the best but i do see some people with it, im hoping its best for battery life on the phone too.
The thing is i open CWM flash a new kernel and then select it but then it says "kernel failed, no zImage was found"
any ideas?
Install tar version via odin, or look after patched zip version here on xda.
I noticed you have Neatrom lite is it better for battery life? thats actually what i am looking for, something that will last me more then a day.

Re-download the zip and try again. Could be corrupted which is why its not able to grab files from it.
Alternative simply flash the .tar version in download mode via ODIN.
Download an old dorimanx or siyah(pre new jelly bean) flash that, reboot recovery (under advanced) flash siyah 6 b4 and reboot
The same thing happened to me a few days ago. On cmw in philZ kernel I can't flash siyah 6b4 from the official website.
It's possible to flash it with Odin on computer. (.tar file)
Worked for me. Now I can flash all the kernels I want on cmw.
Sent from my GT-I9100.
How do you flash with Odin, i just downloaded the program.
Well i was able to flash the latest Siyah kernel but i wasnt able to flash the dorimanx kernel witch i hear is much better for battery

use that siyah kernel recovery to flash the zip file of Dori kernel ma8
or u can dwnld the .tar version of Dori kernel v7.45 from link below and flash the same using ODIN.
Dorimanx Kernel
i was able to do it in recovery mode, but dori kernel 7.43 would install but not boot in, i tried 7.44 and it worked perfectly im guessing the 7.43v is bugged.

ClockWorkMod v6.0.3.x for i9100

Dear all,
The official latest CWM release for i9100 is v5.8.3.1 (see www.clockworkmod.com). Is there an official (or fully working version) of CWM 6.0.3.x for the i9100? For e.g. T-Mobile there is a release available. Can I use this as well?
for now, I can also flash Philz kernel to get CWM v6.0.3.2, but I first want to have a separate CWM version installed. Thanks for help.

I'm also trying to install/flash latest cwm without being part of any kernel / mod. Did you have any luck with that?
Philz IS stock kernel.....no tweaks, no mods......other than CWM and root.......afaik.....if you want a (cwm + root) stock phone, philz will give you that.......
My Wife says I'm a phone geek.....
I'd have to agree.....
I don't see why I should install a kernel, even stock, when only recovery partition needs changing. In most phones there are flashable files through adb, or similar ways, to install cwm. Will it work through rom manager app?
I'm not sure about just CWM on its own. It probably does exist. Just needed to jump in quick.... DO NOT use ROM manager on an i9100. Sure-fire way to screw things up /brick.
Ps. Keith is right, the only thing different about PhilZ kernel is recovery and it's rooted. Nothing else is changed.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
And when you add the fact that it can be flashed using the stock recovery.........
It doesn't get any easier, safer or straightforward than that. No disrespect intended, but I can't see the problem with doing it this way.......
My Wife says I'm a phone geek.....
I'd have to agree.....
You really are trying to make this as difficult as possible for yourself, aren't you ?
Take the good advice you've been given; particularly the bit about staying away from Rom Manager unless you want to find out why you don't use it with the SGS2 the hard way.
Will do that... however, I'll try to make a flashable zip (with stock recovery) of latest cwm alone, and will report back... just in case someone wants it in the future.

[Q] Help! Did I brick my phone after Odin/Siyah?

Apologies for the desperate newbie question, but here goes--
I have followed the instructions in the stickied tutorials or tried to follow them so far. I rooted my SGH-i777 using framaroot. No problem there.
I got Mobile ODIN and the latest siyah CWM. I flashed the kernel.
When I try to power on I get stuck at "SAMSUNG" and then phone appears to power off.
I can get into recovery mode using vol up, vol down and power. I see the Siyah screen, etc. But that's as far as I can go.
HELP!
It seems to be that you flashed the wrong kernel what kind of ROM are you running touchwiz or aosp

Thanks for your response. I flashed the latest Siyah kernel after reading the "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter!!" thread. FWIW in recovery mode it says "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.2-Siyah"
I had actually factory reset my SGH-i777 before rooting and flashing so I was running the Touchwiz that comes stock with the SGH-i777.
Any steps I can take to get out from under this rock? :crying:

Yes. Not to worry.
It sounds like the system is incompatible with the kernel. You didn't say which version of the OS you were running before you installed the kernel. Do you remember what it was? Which stock comes with the phone would depend on how old the phone is.
How to proceed depends on what you want to do. If you want to install custom firmware, then I would suggest that you flash one of the stock plus root packages with Odin, and then use Mobile Odin lite or Mobile Odin pro to install the correct custom kernel, meaning one that is compatible with the system that you chose.

It was 4.1.2. The phone was from near launch but I've upgraded the OS as Samsung has released them.
Ultimately I'd like to end up with CM10.1, but obviously that's a secondary concern at this point to a working phone
Sorry for being dense, but can you explain what you mean by "flash one of the stock plus root packages with Odin, and then use Mobile Odin lite or Mobile Odin pro to install the correct custom kernel?" Or point me to a thread/post that does so? Thanks again :good:

Here it is (the stock + root rom): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322046
It doesn't hurt to do some looking.
Use Odin v1.85 for the flashing (google it).
Then find a kernel for your phone (don't try Siyah again :b), like for example, Entrophy's kernel, and flash the zimage file using mobile odin.

OK. The AJK v3.0 NoSwap kernel is the only kernel compatible with stock AT&T JB 4.1.2. However, unless you can get it onto your sd card, it won't do you any good at this point.
So I would suggest you flash UCLL6 stock plus root which is 4.0.4 from here. The OP has the complete guide, and links to working custom kernels. Once you get it up and going with a custom kernel, you can then flash CM 10.1, or anything else you want.
Edit: Cooked v1.6 as suggested by azeem40 is not Odin flashable. It is a CWM flashable zip, so you would have the same issue getting it onto your sd card. The above is your quickest route.

Firstly: Please give more detailed information (which kernel do you use, which ROM did you use before the problem occurred?)
Secondly: It is possible that you can't acess recovery mode anymore when flashing new updates. Happens with CM 10.2 OTA Update right now. The solution would be to flash a new recovery using Heimdall (Open-Source ODIN alternative) [Didn't try that, but should theoretically work] or, mor simple, a new kernel. Dorimany v9.34 is suited perfectly for that. Download here: http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ .

You installed a Kernel while rooting your phone: Its the .tar that you have to put into the PDA section in ODIN. There are Kernels with .tar and .zip: .tar files are only flashable using Odin while .zip files are flashed using the recovery just like you flash ROMs. I guess your Kernel is a custom CM Kernel (CM for Cyanogen Mod). Carbon ROM is probably based on CM. There is currently no other workaround to get your recovery back then flashing a new kernel/recovery. I am currently working on an easy workaround for this problem, but it will take a while.
Dorimanx is downloadable here http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ and should be compatible: Just flash it like you did when rooting your phone in the beginning, just with Dorimanx .tar in PDA. Recovery should work again afterwards.
My mistake: It's Dorimanx, not Dorimany
Hit Thanks and just ask if you need additional help!

1. Yes you should
2. Not right now, maybe in the future, flashing recovery.img using Heimdall would probably help, but I didn't try it myself and using Heimdall is quite complex
3. In General: The newest .tar (9.34/8.34) as you can't use .zip files
When you want to use Stock Samsung ROM: Version 8
When you want to use CM/AOKP based ROM: Version 9
Remember: No ICS Support!

I agree, the problem results of the ROM: But you have to flash dorimanx after carbon because carbon replaces the current kernel with its own CM custom Kernel. It should work just fine with carbon when it's flashed after installing carbon.
