screen battery heavy drain solvable by undervolting? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I am very serious about battery life. I think everyone knows that the biggest drain is the screen. So because of this i don't think any upgrade will solve this problem. I'm wondering if undervolting will do it? I undervolt my laptop and it works wonders like gives an extra 30%-50% more battery. I may want to do it to my phone if it reduces power usage of the screen.

Undervolting has nothing to do with the screen, but with the CPU.
You can try if you get some more hours out of it, but if the phone is in deep sleep most of the time you won't get much.
I find that I can turn the screen to 25% most of the time, 0% at night. I only need 50% or more in the sunlight with sunglasses on.

Seems like it, but you have to admit, the screen is pretty awesome

Brightness Setting.....

What do you guys have your Brightness set to??? Mine is Half. Even tho i wanna make it Full brightness. But that may do something bad for the screen being that bright all the time. You think?

The only thing it will effect is battery performance. I have mine set to about 75% as I don't like the auto brightness
Yea..i was wondering how bad it would affect it. My battery lasts a long while. I should just test it.
Plus..my inner knowledge of this Tab isnt so good. Like..on a laptop..if you have the brightness jacked up to high..you could burn out your backlight. What will happen in terms of this GTab if you have it up to high?

The back light on the gTab display is LED vs the cfl backlight. LEDs should last longer than cfl and don't decrease light output with age as cfl tends to do.

Thanks alot for your help bro. So you think if i used it at full brightness...nothing bad really will happen? Cept maybe kill battery life. I have mine at 75% now like you. Should be good enough.

A rom without wake up lag

The only problem of mine with SGS 2 is wake up lag. Pressing power or home button when screen is locked and after a call, screen wakes up 2 seconds later and this makes me crazy and i want to throw it when it happens.
Do u guys have any ICS ROM suggestion that has no wake up lag?
You're not going to remove wake-up lag without keeping a permanent wake-lock.
You can help to reduce it by not using a kernel which is by default utilising a governor inhibiting screen off CPU frequency.
No wake up lag = no deep sleep = battery draining very fast.
I guess you can grab an app that mantains a permanent wakelock and you won't have that lag. Your battery won't last long either.
I'm running Resurrection Remix 1.1 with the Siyah 3.0.1 Kernel. When you mention wake up lag, I can't even imagine what you are talking about because I have none whatsoever. And my battery goes all day with heavy usage and I still have at least 45% left when I go to bed....

i understand u tell me the only phone that has deep sleep is s2. dont other phones have no deep sleep? i think they do, but no lag for them.
I everyday charge my battery, sometimes twice a day. so charging isnt a problem for me.
By the way, i think i found a solution. "Delayed Lock" app seems to work. I'll try it for a few days.

I see in your future a thread about battery life.... Unless you already realize and understand that softlocker will cause a drop in battery life since it won't allow the phone to go into deep sleep.
EDIT: LOL. Nevermind... I see a post above where you say:

[Q] Auto brightness or max it out?

The screen dims and changes brightness by itself so much I am contemplating just turning it up and leaving it.
Any thoughts to this, and does it drain your battery super quick?
Seems a waste of the SLCD 2 to have so dim and changing brightness all the time

If you plan on disabling brightness just keep in mind if your an outdoors user or indoors user, the lighting around you will play a key roll on what levels of lighting you decide to have.
Personally I have the Automatic setting enabled, but I keep a widget (via widgetsoid) handy so I can disable it when I want and how I want on the fly.

Max brightness will definitely have an adverse effect on batt life. I personally keep mine at about 40% which is fine except when im in direct sunlight.

I know what you mean, I tried doing the same because I got sick of the brightness changes all the time, but after a couple of days having to adjust it myself or compromise on batt life, I decided to go back to Automatic settings... In my life I go to much outdoors as I can spend hole days indoors its what ever happens, happens so I decided to stick with the annoying setting other than being annoyed by having to set it myself.
Screen brightness is the biggest contributor to battery drain. I keep mine as dim as possible at all times. I've unfortunately become quite OCD about it.

I'm the same way. But the problem I have with this phone is that the more dimmer I make it, the more uglier the whites become (which I have become OCD about).
So I have double OCD working against each other and my brain is going to explode. That is all. Carry on.
Ok; the phone has been out a few months. Anyone's opinions changed?
I generally keep screen auto-brightness OFF, and set it to about 60% to 70% brightness static. When plugged into power to watch video, I go to 100%.

+1 for Auto and a widget. Most of my use happens at the extremes - OFF or 100%, so this provides easy switching.
I keep mine down around 10%, and only use autobrightness when outdoors

[Q] What is the best brightness setting?

Seems a shame to keep this beautiful screen below 70% brightness. What is the best setting for brightness that won't kill my battery? Thanks.
Leave mine at 80 and make it a full day
30% and auto brightness. Greenify with firewall blocking most connections. CF lumen changes tones in the pm. Think im just lucky my eyes are more light sensitive so I can keep brightness settings low.

I use Lux Auto Brightness and my Day profile currently is set for max 70% and that for me is perfect even outside in the sun.
Try Lux if you haven't already.

Screen is great in full sunlight. You get max brightness if you turn off auto brightness and push the slider all the way to 100%. Guarantee you won't have an issue with that.
I stay at 40% no auto brightness. Usually not out in the sun often but when I'm I switch to 100%

I do sometimes miss the AMOLED screen from the S4 only for the Blacks though.
The bottom line though is this QHD screen is amazing. Even though it's the first of its kind for a phone, I think they did a great job. The detail you can see on photos and watching videos is just insane.

I'm coming from an HTC One M8 and idk, I'm just not sold on the display yet. Maybe just my eyes. I do find that auto brightness is always too dark for me inside.
+1 for LUX app, I have it in every phone and tablet in my stable, but...
I find the LUX auto setting to be much too aggressive in dimming the screen under most conditions. I often have to force it to add 30% or more to the auto.
Agree with post above about missing the inky blacks of an AMOLED screen. The blacks are the only complaint I would make about this beautiful display.
I like it @ 70 no Auto, with color correction on and the circle covering just a smidge south of center on the camera icon on the screen that you use to calibrate the color correction.
50% and auto.
For me, anything less that 80% looks awful. Yes, downright awful! At 80%, it looks great. On my G2 it was 70%, but the G3 needs more to look clean and bright. I'd rather have to charge the phone 20 times a day than suffer with dimly lit screens. Sometimes people spend more time trying to figure out how to save battery life than they do using their phones. Enjoy your phones people, and stop suffering over battery life!
That said, I do get a tiny blip of dimming when switching apps or screens. At a solid 80% it seems to auto dim a tiny bit during normal use. I think this is some sort of throttling function that is normal with the G3, but it is minor annoying. Some people had done some overrides to this but I can live with it.

pixel battery saver

came across app for amoled screen called pixel battery saver on play store
a different way to save battery..... worked well for me
Yep...it's good but my point is .... What is the use of super crispy display when we decrease the pixel density. For battery juice we have several other options. Like fast charging replaceable battery. Besides that in battery saving setting we have option to reduce brightness which is not so customizable as in the app but it works well.
Anyways, people may have different opinion on this.
Very good app! I use it for about a week now and i'm feeling the differences.

I see what you're saying and I agree, however sometimes you just need to make it through the day, which for heavy users like myself is not an easy task on the Note 4.
I used to love this app, and was so disappointed when it got shut down. So I contacted the owners, bought it, and revitalized it this week. It's on the play store, called Checkerboard Pixel Mesh

Power bank or extra battery will help.
My phone last for a day with LTE connectivity all the time if there is no wIFI.
4 to 5 hours SOT with 15 to 17 hours of battery.
Im using eRobot 5.1.1 spaceX kernel.
This is now my 4th day and I am very satisfied.
