Accidently uninstalled the APK on my AT910 as well as a few other apps. I have pushed the Blur-res from the European model which has stopped it from force closing and made it work pretty well for the most part, but unfortunately there are still some errors.
1) Accounts does not show up under App Drawer or settings, may have been caused my uninstalling Setup, but after pushing it from the XT910, it still does not show up. Oddly enough, it will show up first boot after recovery.
2)Universal inbox will crash when opening Facebook from the app, it will open if opened from the status bar.
These seem to be the only problems I am having so far and can tell. If I can make it upgradeable when ice cream sandwich comes out, I will be happy. Let's also make this a lesson to all the new people out there, do not uninstall blur-res, it ****s **** up. That is all.
TLDR; Need Blur-res from Rogers Canada phone.
It's located in System/framework/
Bump. Need a solution to this.

Ok guys I finally got around to rooting and freezing some apps last night on my X2. However, now I'm having texting problems. They seem to go out fine but they rarely come in. Also, I sometimes get a FC error saying the application Text Messaging ( process com.motorola.conversations has stopped unexpectedly.
Also, when texts do come in about 75% of the time I get two of the same text. This may be a chompsms thing since it was doing this before I rooted.
The list I used can found by googling "X2 freeze app list" and it's on androidcentral. (i can't post links, sorry)
Can you guys help sort this out? Thanks!
I've looked at the list and its sound. None of those apps should have caused the issue you are experiencing. You mentioned a 3rd party messaging app? Do you still have the stock messaging app?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Yes I sure do. I haven't removed anything, I've only frozen apps. I went halfway through the list and just froze a few at a time but stillgot the random FC's. I'm not sure what to do now..
I would unfreeze everything and see if you still get fcs. If you do it might be your third party app. If not then freeze just Verizon apps and freeze the rest one at a time, that way you can discover the problem by process of elimination. I personally think the third party app is causing the problem but hey I could be wrong.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
If I don't freeze anything then I don't get any fc's or problems to speak of. But that kind of defeats the purpose of buying Titanium Pro and the phone is much quicker when I had a bunch of the bloat frozen. I'll spend some more time freezing apps slowly but the problem is that the fc's don't happen happen every time even with the same list of frozen apps so that makes narrowing it down very difficult. If you have any great ideas in the meantime let me know, thanks!
Sure thing I will keep it in mind

My frozen list without FCs in any stock apps:
Amazon MP3
Amazon Kindle
All other preloaded apps (NFS Shift, Let's Golf, etc.)
android-syncservice-app (related to Backup Assistant)
BackupAssistanceClient.apk
blur_flickr.apk
blur_lastfm.apk
blur_linkedin.apk
blur_myspace.apk
blur_orkut.apk
blur_photobucket.apk
blur_skyrock.apk
blur_twitter.apk
BookmarksWidget.apk
BooksPhone.apk (Google Books)
BuaContactAdapter.apk (Backup Assistant Contact page)
Cardock2.apk (do not freeze if you use a car dock)
DeviceStatistics.apk (polls various systems and stores statistical data)
Dock.apk*
DockService.apk*
* These apps are also required for HDMI mirroring; keep ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false in the build.prop as it is enabled via hotplugging
HelpCenter.apk
IMPresence.apk
MessagesWidget.apk
MyVerizon.apk
PerformanceManager.apk (this will cause persistent FCs until battery pull; on restart, the system will remove data related to this app)
Preloaded.apk (preloaded contacts)
Protips.apk
QuickContactWidget.apk
Quickoffice.apk
QuickSMS.apk
RichLocation.apk
Skype_mobile_live.apk (use Market version instead)
Slackerradio.apk
SpellingCheckService.apk (I'm a good speller and hate this crap)
SuggestionsProvider.apk
SuggestionsRuleCheckerCore.apk
SuggestionsServiceScheduler.apk
-- Freezing these will alleviate a lot of the lag experienced with the stock ROM; adding build.prop optimizations will complement this
ToggleWidgets.apk
Vcast.apk
VcastMusic.apk
VcastVideo.apk
vnav_DROIDX2... (VZ Navigator)
Vsuiteapp.apk
VVM.apk
VZWIM.apk
VZWInstaller.apk
WeatherWidget.apk
You can freeze the datacollection APKs, but just know that you won't have any battery statistics and some data push features won't work either. If you freeze datacollection without freezing the 3 Suggestions APKs, you'll get a force close on the RuleChecker at startup.
I kept the social stuff mainly because the stock ROM doesn't integrate the Facebook app like stock Android, so in order to have your Facebook contacts sync'd with your phone contacts, you need the blur_facebook.apk authenticator, and to keep the status updates intact when receiving a phone call from a contact with Facebook data, you need some of the social apps (mainly friendfeed.apk). I disable the social messaging notifications from the Messaging app in the launcher, as the official Facebook app provides notifications, and I don't need two.
If you don't care about that stuff, just remember that the stock ROM expects many of the authenticators to be there, mainly Facebook since stock Android also links with Facebook. You may get force closes when trying to open or edit a contact, or when text messaging contacts.
Here are the APKs that will cause FCs in the contacts area (opening or editing a contact):
blur_activesync.apk
blur_email.apk
blur_facebook.apk
blur_yahoo.apk
I kept blur_picasa and blur_youtube as I wanted these sync'd in my gallery.
blur_xxx are authenticators (used in the Accounts page)
Blurxxx are actual programs
Sorry about the length, but some things need to be explained so everyone can understand these things.
Thanks for the very long and detailed post Jason. I'm also trying to get my extended battery calibrated but the Battery Calibrator app doesn't seem to be working.
I will definitely get to work on that app list but with just those few that I had listed I wasn't able to get into my contacts without a fc. I don't see how everyone else is doing all these things so easily but I'm struggling. Is it possible to have a bad root or something?
I didn't read all of Jason's post, so forgive me if I repeat something, but I use Chomp and have run into something like this, but only if I freeze the default messaging application. If I freeze it, I can send text from Chomp, but not receive them. Unfrozen, I can send and receive fine. As much as I'd enjoy freezing the default app, I've just disabled the notifications from it and hidden it from view. I know I was able to freeze it without issue when I first got the phone (back on FroYo), but, since updating to GB, it causes issues.
I've seen problems when my mother sends me a text where it doubles the text, we are both in VZW and the text itself is doubled on her end, so could it be VZW?

did u happen to freeze email engine or authentication?
That will mess up texts
I can't remember now for sure but I think I froze Corporate Sync Authenticator. Would that affect texts? I need to get some more time to play around with this but it's so darn frustrating, I thought this would be pretty straight forward. I also still can't get my extended battery calibrated. I get the blinking red-light after about four hours off the charger

Our phone will NEVER read an extended battery correctly
no matter how many times u "calibrate" it.
You gonna want to use a battery widget and keep an eye on the voltage left.
I believe around 3700 is pretty much dead and u should recharge.
Corporate email may have had something to do with that text issue.
It sounds more likely that it is the third.party message app giving u issues.
I know when I used go sms and I froze stock message app I entered the APN and SMSC #'s or something like that manually ((I forget exactly what I entered...but I had found what needed to be entered by digging around in root explorer somewhere)) for it to pull messages and send correctly....
good luck...
If I have time later ill browse around and see if I can locate what I did before...

Yeah I have had mine go lower than 3700
I meant that when it starts to go under 3700 it seems to drop faster also
so its a good idea to charge up when u get under 3700 since its a BAD idea to let a Li-on battery drain completely....they work better and last longer if u start charging when it gets to around 15%...
Thanks for clarification motcher
Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately I just can't seem to freeze anything without getting force closes. So I guess my root was all for not :/ boo.
Is there a specific battery widget that you would recommend? Or will any do?
When i first got my X2 I had a problem with sending double texts and not being able to open a thread once it had 100+ mesages in it. I would have to delete the thread for it to be corrected. I rooted the phone and tried freezing and unfreezing a bunch of apps and it still gave me problems. Both when i was stock with very few apps and rooted. But when i flashed minimal x it seemed to quit. Ive been running Eclipse and now CM7 and havent had anymore issues. Btw the problem with the text wasnt just one phone. This is my second X2 and both had it till I put a rom on it. Im sure there was something simple I missed but I still dont know what.

How long until the new rom comes out? Is it ICS?
I've been flashing ROMs built on the latest code for Jelly Bean (4.1.1). (The phone is the Galaxy Nexus LTE.)
The battery has been draining fast and upon checking with OS Monitor, I learned that a bunch of android.process.acore processes, sometimes alone and sometimes with another, have been registering high CPU loads continuously until they run the battery down. They are Contacts Storage, User Dictionary, and DRM Protected Content Storage. (DRM is probably not an acore service but it is making trouble just the same.)
I tried winnowing down the problem by deleting the contact store data and resyncing while de-activating third party syncers like HacSync. I even tried cleaning up the contacts via Google on the web. The contacts number only a few hundred. Again, the processes up claiming huge load after the initial sync period.
I scoured the web for reports but have only found mentions dating back to Gingerbread or ICS involving Facebook. Facebook sync doesn't work with JB and again, I have disabled HaxSync.
I also froze User Dictionary with Titanium Backup but that did nothing to keep the process from running, even after a reboot.
Any ideas?
SOLUTION
I figured it out. Unchecking the sync contacts in the Google+ client fixed the problem.

Weapondrift, yes I have. IIRC I flashed to Franco kernel with each ROM. Do you think it is a kernel problem?
Hi,
Just got a S3 the other day, so now I've rooted it and flashed Omega v26 custom ROM.
Everything works fine, but one thing has been bugging me; the dialer, contact app and message app doesnt stay in memory. When they're not in memory they take like 0,5-1,5 seconds to load, which is unacceptable to me! :crying:
Is there a way to make them stay in memory, regardless..?
Thanks in advance!
I believe it's the jb leaks that have thus problem? So nothing to do really.

So this is not an issue in ICS?
Yes, it IS an issue with ICS. A lot of people might not notice it, because, obviously, if you've just recently used the dialer or contacts app, they are still in memory and load quickly, but even in ICS, it's an issue I'd sacrifice a bit of memory if there was a way to keep them active. There's got to be a way to do it.
I have CM10 on my wife's SII and the dialer loads much faster by comparison, and there's still a lot of work to make JB fully ready for the SII, since kernel sources have not been released yet for it.
It's a shame that such a device is plagued in such an obvious way. It's the Achilles Heel of the SIII, IMO.
It's a PHONE and the dialer and contacts should be something that every user will be reaching for constantly in normal use. Can't see the reason why this cannot be solved.

A friend of mine thought of a way to work around this. I havent tried it, but in theory it sounds doable.
If you disable the built-in app killer and install another which has capability to ignore certain apps in a list when freeing up memory.
How about that? Is that worth trying? If so, whats the best app killer out there?
I have the same issue ... but with normal apps such as a twitter app or mini-games (not 3D dynamic games). I keep reloading them if I don't use them by leaving them inactive in background for more than 3 minutes give or take.
Where is multitasking for Gode's sake ?
I think its more an issue with the touchwiz contacts and dialer being very bloated. The cm10 contacts and dialer isn't always in memory, but it loads up so fast that it doesn't HAVE to be in memory. Last I checked, the touchwiz contacts can take up to 80-90mb of ram (I only have 130 contacts) which is way too much to be honest, and phone doesn't have much user free ram as it is. The only alternative is to use EX Dialer, it always stays in ram and is very fast, if you get a missed calls though they won't be cleared until you use the stock dialer, very annoying

Well, that sounds like a lot.
But my friend who has a Galaxy S2 doesnt have this problem (he's running 2.3) and the dialer, contacts and message app is not that different on the S3 so it should not take up much more RAM, right?

That's what you'd think, but it does. Even on the S2 though the contacts and dialer were slow to load, don't know what tests Samsung are doing when they optimize the software on their phones but I think the Contacts/Dialer/Messaging should always be in ram as default. 1-2 seconds might not seem like a lot to people, but when phones with inferior hardware are opening the same thing in under a second I can imagine someone pulling this face in astonishment
Edit: Just checked how much ram messaging and contacts uses in CM10. 30mb together lol, compared to the average 50mb I had with Stock TW Contacts

So there's a 20mb difference between stock TW dialer/sms/contact and CM10? If it's not more then that I don't see what the problem is. Would gladly sacrifice a few megabytes more RAM to get rid of that annoying lag..
Do you think this issue will be corrected in future releases?
I honestly do not think it will be corrected ever. Since that problem was present in galaxy s also...
One can certainly hope.

Hello,
Due to the fact that I had the same problem with dialer/sms/contact on my i9300 (4.1.1) I decided to write my solution of this.
So, I did as follows:
1. root
2. edit /system/build.prop and add lines:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts
sys.keep_app_2=com.android.mms
3. reboot
Now, these applications works perfect!

Well, it should be... but unfortunately sys.keep_app doesn't work in JB as it turned out later so I'm looking for another solution to keep dialer, contacts and sms in memory permanently.
However the ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 line improves performance of my i9300 and now is much better.
When dialer/contacts/sms are in buffer memory then there is no lag and phone works amazing!
any news ???
Is it possible to make Android NEVER automatically kills running apps, to have true multitasking like on Maemo and webOS?
I am really sick of it killing apps that I use.
I tried V6 supercharger, but that didn't help... I looked everywhere for an answer, but I never found one.
Surely there is a way to make Android multitask like a proper PC, where it's the user who manages apps?
(And please don't tell me that I should leave it to Android, that it knows better, and etc.)
Now, before you start defending Android:
Ever had your browser refresh the page by itself after switching to it?
Ever lost something you were writing when you switched to another app?
Ever had a video pause because you switched from the player?
That shows that Android does NOT have true multitasking.
Now, I see why Google did that - battery life. However there is a new class of devices, where battery life is not such a problem. Tablets.
And yet they still suffer from same issues.
Now, here's an example: the browser. Very often I'd come back to my browser, only to find that it is reloading the page I was on, wasting traffic, and losing whatever text I typed.
That's stupid, right?
I can even track back to what device did this first - the iPhone.
iPhone 1 had 8 times less RAM than your average high end device, yet they still have a similar problem.
So yeah. Not true multitasking. Even in the app switcher, notice that it never says "running apps", only "recent apps" - because it isn't a true multitasking app switcher, just a history of all recent apps you launched.
Go on, scroll to the very top, launch the oldest app on the list. I'm 99% sure that it has restarted. This would've never happened if Android had TRUE multitasking.
Now, there has to be a way to get that. Desktop Linux does it, so Android probably can too.
If you ever notice that the app restarts, it's the app that is badly implemented. All apps must be able to handle a restart by Android transparently to the user by saving its state. If not, tell the app developer to fix it.
Chrome, Dolphin, Boat, Maxthon, AOSP, ICS Browser+, Opera, Firefox.
That's a list of browsers that have this problem.
Do you really think that they all implemented multitasking wrong?
Again, it's a problem with Android - I don't want apps to save their state so that Android can kill them - I want them to never leave RAM at all.

Maybe dont answer all ur questions:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...lication-is-that-frowned-upon/2034238#2034238
Apps who properly implement onSaveInstanceState() can come back, in case of web browsers is more complex to use it properly, texts or images are simple to imagine how to OS save on "disk" to retrieve later, what about sockets or open files (can be deleted while in background).
Android keep on background until the resources are needed for another task (and maybe a time limit, but dunno for sure), if happen very often w/ u means ur OS r using more resources than what need to keep on background.
Android has true multitasking, but... eh here's a link. Read yourself.

But is it possible to make it so that apps do not get killed at all, just like in Maemo or a normal PC?
What you showed me is exactly why Android does not have true multitasking: it uses stuff like services to actually have less things running - and I don't want that. I want all apps to truly stay in the background - so a YouTube video would continue playing, just like when I minimize the browser on my PC, and etc.
I understand why that isn't the default behavior on phones, but it could be really useful on a tablet.
I don't want to be at mercy of app developers - since even Google messes up: every time I switch out of Google Talk, I lose what I was typing.
I'd much rather have a limited amount of apps that I can launch at a time, and be able to manage what I want to keep open myself.
What you are asking for is basically to completely change core Android behavior.
Sorry, but its just not possible
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
It is possible, because it's been done. There was a guy who did it over on the V6 supercharger thread, but I don't think the how he did it was ever released. Instead it was developed into a "kill apps only when ram is REALLY needed" method, which could run up to 20 apps at a time on some phones apparently

I get what you are talking about but I'd say is what device your using. My eVo 4g lte's was written screwed up by HTC. Maybe yours is like that too. My rom maker and other devs have done many fixes for it. It has got better but my eVo and eVo 3d still multitask better, and it is true multitasking. It doesn't work like I'm talking about on all devices, but for u to say it's all of Android.......... It's not.
Swyped from my eVo
The mulittasking in Android has some limits which are quite annoying. On my Droid 3 apps that I haven't used will start in the background and waste RAM so there isn't enough RAM to multitask and the device is laggy. I tried rooting and freezing bloatware, but other apps have just filled the void by automatically running in the background. I really wish the user had more control over multitasking. Unless I open an app I don't want it to start in the background, even if there is enough free RAM. But Motorola makes some pretty bad software so this could be the issue.
On my Touchpad with CM9 multitasking is quite a bit better. Not sure if its having 1GB of RAM, improvements in ICS, or just CM but you can actually run several programs at once without them closing, so my browser pages stay loaded.

Yes, with "Jelly ISCream Automatic Patcher".
V6 script showed me that I'm 100% supercharged.
well...I didn't experienced these kind of problem before. android indeed has good multitasking stuff. the number of app running on background depend on the ram size. you can't expect to run such heavy app with huge ram consumption on such device with low ram. anyway, you can try to play with minfree stuff. try to minimilize the value
The Note 10.1 can have side by side applications, is this what you kinda mean?
