Keeping a stock version of 2.3.4 - Motorola Droid X2

Does anyone keep a backup version of stock 2.3.4 on their external SD just in case of a screw up? I have a nandroid backup saved of a working stock rom on my external SD, but I didn't know in the case of a soft brick if I'd be able to access and flash that or if I should keep a stock version of 2.3.4 around in case I needed to flash that

In the event of a soft brick you should expect able to get into reboot recovery and re-recovery = backup restore. I don't even think you could do anything with the non nandroid version of 2.3.4 without cwr

noob Q re backups

1. What is the difference between performing a nandroid backup after booting into recovery and doing one through Rom Manager?
2. Where are the backups saved and is there any chance of them being overwritten by flashing a rom?
No difference
In the clockwork folder, internal memory.
You will not lose this because the rom's do not wipe internal, just data (apps)
I need a bit of clarification. What exactly is a nandroid...if i assume that it is a complete back up of all data and apps, would i be correct? As you can see im a bit confused. I read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475&page=2 (just in case i wanted to revert back to a stock rom for what ever reason) is the nandroid used once you flash back to stock using odin to get everything back to stock or can you us the nandroid to get back to stock?
Ive searched on here and cant really find a straight answer.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Eris Bootloop help

I cannot figure out what to do, I have my phone rooted using the gscript method which worked fine,I made a nandroid backup then i flashed EvilEris rom onto it which also worked fine but it would not save contacts , so i decided to do a nandroid restore and now it is stuck at the boot screen with the 3 skating androids.
I think if I put the stock eris rom with root access on my sd card and reflash it , it will fix the problem.
Does anyone know how to help?

Did you do a full wipe (Data/Factory Reset) and Dalvik before flashing? Try it again doing those steps first, and/or try another ROM like xtrSENSE.
Sorry I figured it out and havent had a chance to check back in
All I did was put my old sd card in which contained the zip for evil eris
reflashed then put my new card in and its working good so far
thanks!

restore 2.3.4 nandroid on 2.3.6

Can you restore a backup made on android 2.3.4 /4.5.91 to an atrix with 2.3.6/4.5.141? My Atrix on 2.3.4 had the wifi/bluetooth card burn out and Bestbuy accepted it after I unrooted/pushed the 2.3.6 sbf (so scary on an unlocked bootloader) and they are sending me back a refurbished atrix with 2.3.6. Now I have a Clockworks Nandroid and a backup of my sdcard along with the external sdcard, so my entire phone is saved. Can I restore the backup made on 2.3.4 successfully to my new atrix? Will it return me to 2.3.4? If it is not safe, what is the best way to recover all my data?
Yes, it would be perfectly safe. I'm sure you could even restore a backup from 2.2 if you wanted to XD
Thanks! So will it put me back to 2.3.4? And I remember reading never to install a rom based on 2.3.4 ever again after upgrading. I know a nandroid isn't a ROM, but both contain many of the same files. has anyone done this before?
Edit: Also, I was on the Gingerbread beta ROM.....not official. Is that a problem?
Sorry for the double post, but my new Atrix is coming in any day now, and I don't want to brick it. I cannot find ANY info on this subject. Could somebody link me to some kind of direct confirmation that this works?

CM10 basic questions ?

1) I assume going back to stock would be risky after this is flashed ?
2) Currently rooted 1.43 16 gb. Can I flash cm10 with old sd version of clockwork mod ?
3) Regarding recoveries, Do I need an internal one ? if so which one and why does it matter which one ? and then what is the best way to install a recovery for cm10 ?
Thanks
I am flashing CM10 with my SD card version of CWM and it does work. I have had no issues.
Going back to stock is not really an issue. Flask Adam Outlers "acclaim_update.zip and you go back to 1.4.0 like it's right out of the box. Even better you should do a nandroid backup before anything else and just restore that. If you appear to still be rooted there is a way to unroot.
You do not need an internal recovery as long as you keep your sd card recovery.

Hi Thanks for the info. I'm comfortable flashing the rom, but I thought being kernel 3.0, it might cause a brick flashing an old kernel over it. I currently have 2 Nooks. One is bricked at the moment from trying to go from cm9 to cm7. , I think the partitions are messed up.

[Q] Are cwm recovery backups transferrable between phones?

I have to mail in my phone for some service and I am 99% sure they are going to give me a replacement phone instead of fixing the phone I'm going to ship them and getting it back.
I would very much so like to keep all my settings and apps and stuff cause even with titanium backup it's a good hour or two before I get the phone back the way I like it.
So what I was thinking of doing is:
Backup in its current state
Save on computer
Ship phone
Get new phone
Flash rom/kernel
Transfer nandroid to phone
Recover
Does this work or am I going to run into some trouble?
Yes. You shouldn't have any problems restoring a Nandroid to a new phone.
The only trouble you may run into is if you're trying to restore a backup you made with a version of CWM from say, 6 mths to a year or more ago with a current version of CWM. In other words, as long as the backup is recent and you use a recent/the same version of CWM to do the restore, you should be fine.
Hello guys. I am currently using Slimbean RC1 and I made a backup of my rooted stock 4.0.4 with Siyah kernel so that when I restore my backup anytime in future then will not have any super brick risks. But I have a confusion. Do I need to do a full wipe in CWM before restoring backup? Or it will wipe automatically?

No wipe necessary. As long as the CWM version you're using to restore the backup isn't a lot newer (says 12 mths or more) than the version of CWM you made the backup with, you shouldn't have any problems at all.
