Hello, I wasn't sure whether to post here or under accessories so apologies if its in the wrong place.
I work for a little media company that do some undercover recording for bigger companies, you've all seen the kind of thing on tv with various fools being recorded from a tiny camera but I digress.
The cameras we use have primarily RCA or svideo output for a recorder however I was wondering if anyone know of an adaptor that would let the video be stored on an android phone (primarily sgs2) in the interest of saving space.
If anyone has any input on this it would be hugely appreciated
Cheers
Samuel
Both composite video (RCA) and s-video are analogue so I don't think there is any easy way of storing them on a smartphone.
If the cameras could use any digital external storage, ie. usb, I suppose you could use the smartphone as kind of an external usb storage.
Is this bigger company part of the Rupert Murdoch's companies?
I don't know if you know it, but the SGSII has a camera in-built camera.
There are plenty of WiFi webcams out there, so you could hook onto a wifi signal and upload to an online storage or use the SGSII as a tethered device. There are also other methods.

Do you guys think you can connect our phone to a tv using the cable below so you can view your apps, movies, pics on ur tv?? I have a DVD player in my car, it would be really cool to use GPS through the screen if its possible.

This is for samsung, but still uses mini usb.
Our USB-style sockets don't have the functionality. They're just for power, audio, and sync.
Oh okk..dammit..lol.thanks bro
actually, the qualcomm chip actually does support TV out..
HTC didn't implement it though, so the functionality is just sittng there dormant
not that i disagree though...I'm almost positive you can get a micro-sd or a bluetooth hardware solution to accomplish video output
i know the TV out isto 3 phono, and can display in Pal or NTSC but it would be useful if there is a VGA one or a good way to do it,
any ideas

I'm with you. I wanted to use a PC monitor for Remote Desktop control of a couple of PCs and servers with the TP2 (as I do with the Athena). Using the TP video out and converter cables will have the cables outweigh the phone by a factor of about 2 to 1.
I believe the output on the Blackstone is composite, not component in which case I don't think that would work.
Although you can get active converters to convert composite video to VGA/RGBHV, there will be a considerable loss of quality, especially in the fine detail. Basically, it will look very blurry.
There's plenty of them on Ebay, search for EXTUSB video , or "Touch pro video"
Yep, bought one of those composite/VGA converter boxes and can definitely confirm the loss of quality/bluriness. Also too bulky to carry around conveniently and requires a power supply. Hooked my Archos up yesterday (TP2 arrived today...!) just to remind myself, as it has the same screen res and also outputs via composite and apart from it being blurry, the image also flickers, which is quite annoying. Hadn't really noticed it before, cause it's not that noticable when watching video, but when viewing text or a presentation, that would be seriously off-putting! May just be my converter box, but thinking about the conversions the signal has to go through, I can't belive other converters are going to be much better.

"Reqiures powersupply" ?
I cannot remeber that I used power supply with it, but yes, it does have a power-supply connector to allow charging while using tv-out.
Appologies, I was posting without properly referencing the post I was replying to.
I was relpying to crypticalpha's post, regarding composite to VGA converters. My converter box requires a powersupply in order to output a picture on the monitor/projector, else you can only get sound.
Since I have not yet held my TP2 in my hands, nor owned the TP1, I cannot comment on its TV out functionality.
I had assumed the phone itself would not be required to be connected to a power source, but it is actually good to hear that confirmed!
Kind Regards

i think this one does work. and its cheap aswell

I bought a HTC adaptor for charging & 3.5 headphones etc. Then I thought I'd be clever and save money and use a Nokia N95 TV out cable, but when I plug it in the TP2 sees it as Headphones.
Any ideas of how to get it working?

I can vouch for this being a good, cheap TV out cable; I bought it and it works well - the USB and 3.5mm jacks also work so you can plug a secondary sound source in or charge / sync it as well as using the TV out functionality.
One 'problem' though: using Core Player without the TV cable, the video playback is smooth as a baby's bum: with the TV out cable, it's slightly choppy. Is this to be expected or does anyone know how to improve video playback through TV cable? If so, it makes a great solution to travelling and being able to bring good TV and films with you on the phone!
Hey guys, New to the forums, but used this site for a while now. I'm looking to see if anything exists that would output stereo sound, and video (composite only) from the G tab. Most of you will make fun of me for not being caught up with the times, but I'm actually looking for my car. I'd like to mirror video from the gtab to my deck, so the passengers in the rear can watch the gtab, and the front driver/passenger can view the deck. I'm looking for docks, cords, whatever may exist!
Alternatively, is there a way to make the gtab act as a monitor? ie. have video come in from the deck? (yes, my deck has outputs!)
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi..
I have a question on how to get a external microphone to work on my Galaxy Nexus.
For further detail see my full description here:
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...rophone-on-my-galaxy-nexus-to-video-recording
Tried to ask in the Galaxy Nexus forum, but no one answered me, and i think the question is also relevant for other phones as well. Thats why i have posted here...
Really hope someone can help me
Thanks
I have found the solution myself...

which mic do you have?
Use of Ext. Mic on Android when Recording Video [SOLVED]
External Microphones and Video Recording.
The existing thread discussed the solution to the general question of using an external microphone with a combo jack. I however ran into a related problem when I tried to use an external microphone when recording video with the standard camera app.
As noted in the thread above, the first step is using a splitter adapter which splits the signal into two distinct ports - one that can be used for a microphone input connection (mono), and the other for stereo output to a headphone. I used a StarTech MUYHSMFF adapter that cost about $8.00 (US). :good:
This solution worked for straight audio recording as I could indeed record audio. But the solution failed when I tried to record video. Obviously, this meant that the problem was a software problem either in the camera app or in Android itself, as opposed to a hardware problem.
The Asus technical support person suggested that I try a new camera app. I download and tried seven or eight camera apps to no avail. Asus support then suggested that it was a problem in Android and said that I would just have to wait until there was a new version and hope that the problem was addressed.
As I bought my tablet primarily to record and edit video segments, I was not satisfied with this answer.
After an ungodly long search, I came across a site that stated that the IgCamera App was the only camera app to overcome this problem. While I don't know if it is the only app that works, the IgCamera does work and work well.
One minor note. As the combo jack only allows a mono input, I bought a mono cable extension to connect to my lavalier microphone. The only mono cable that I could find was a data transfer cable. Unfortunately, this cable created a major impedance problem: every recording had a loud buzz. I switched to a stereo cable which eliminated the problem. A wireless mic would be even better.
The real solution, of course, is for the manufacturers to provide a separate mic port, something that costs money so they probably won''t did it. A separate mic port would also provide the option of recording in stereo.

I want to be able to attach specialty cameras to my android product such as infrared, thermal, and microscope. Preferably by USB given that it covers the broadest range of cameras. However for the purposes of this discussion any webcam will do. I know there are several apps that allow for streaming DSLR camera control via USB or wifi. I consider wifi to be unacceptable due to it requiring the network infrastructure. My question is really what is needed to get a webcam to be powered by the phone or tablet and streaming video?
Not that it relates but I use a rooted Droid 3
Any ideas would be helpful. I really want to use my camera in concert with an infrared light and infrared camera to have a high quality portable night vision. I am fairly certain that this is possible.
